Abstract
Hyperthermia is a generic term for different techniques using heat in cancer therapies. Temperatures of about 42° Celsius in combination with chemo- or radiotherapy may improve the effectiveness of those treatments. Clinical benefit is shown in “standard hyperthermia” with tumour temperatures assessed during treatment. This systematic review thoroughly assesses the state of evidence concerning the benefits and side effects of electro hyperthermia or whole-body hyperthermia (“alternative hyperthermia”) in oncology. From 26 April 2021 to 09 May 2021, a systematic search was conducted searching five electronic databases (Embase, Cochrane, PsycINFO, CINAHL and Medline) to find studies concerning the use, effectiveness and potential harm of alternative medical hyperthermia therapy on cancer patients. From all 47,388 search results, 53 publications concerning 53 studies with 2006 patients were included in this systematic review. The patients were diagnosed with different types of cancer. The hyperthermic methods included whole-body hyperthermia (WBH) with different methods and electro hyperthermia (EH). The majority of the included studies were single-arm studies, counting in total 32 studies. Six studies were randomized controlled trials (RCT). In addition, one systematic review (SR) was found. The most critical endpoints were tumour response, survival data, pain relief, myelosuppression and toxicities. Outcome was heterogeneous, and considering the methodological limitations, clinical evidence for the benefit of alternative hyperthermia in cancer patients is lacking. Neither for whole-body hyperthermia nor for electro hyperthermia there is any evidence with respect to improvement of survival or quality of life in cancer patients.

Abstract
A 26-year-old female presented recurrent painful, carbuncles at both axillae for 10 years. It caused offensive odor and scar. Tissue diagnosis was chronic hidradenitis suppurativa. She was treated using antibiotics followed by multiple excisions with drainage but showed no improvement. Isotretinoin provided no benefit. She was socially isolated and experienced lower quality of life. Consequently, she was sent for radiation therapy. Computed tomography simulation was performed revealing an ulcer with deep chronic pus tracts at her axilla. Three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy was provided with 6 MV photon (7.5 Gy in 3 fractions) covering all ulcers and pus tracts. On the last day of radiation therapy, carbuncles and wounds at the left axilla exhibited much improvement without pus. Three months follow-up showed much improvement of the lesions. The skin was smoother without pus or odor. Radiation therapy was confirmed one treatment option for chronic hidradenitis suppurativa.

Abstract
The role of hyperthermia (HT) in cancer therapy and palliative care has been discussed for years in the literature. There are plenty of articles that show good feasibility of HT and its efficacy in terms of tumor response and survival improvements. Nevertheless, HT has never gained enough interest among oncologists to become a standard therapy in clinical practice. The main advantage of HT is the enhancement of chemotherapy (CHT), radiotherapy (RT), chemoradiotherapy (CRT), and immunotherapy benefits. This effect has been confirmed in several types of tumors: esophageal, gastrointestinal, pancreas, breast, cervix, head and neck, and bladder cancers, and soft tissue sarcoma. HT effects include oxygenation and perfusion changes, DNA repair inhibition and immune system activation as a consequence of new antigen exposure. The literature shows a wide variety of randomized, nonrandomized, and observational studies and both prospective and retrospective data to confirm the advantage of HT association to CHT and RT. There are still many ongoing trials on this subject. This article summarizes the available literature on HT in order to update the current knowledge on HT use in association with RT and/or CHT from 2010 up to 2019.

Abstract
In this review we focus on the pathophysiology of CRC-related pain and discuss currently applied pain management. Pain is a symptom reported by over 70 % of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. It remains a feared and debilitating consequence of both cancer and cancer-related treatment. There are many options for pain management in CRC, consisting of intravenous, oral or topical medications. In order to address the full spectrum of pain, proper treatment should address the nociceptive, neuropathic and/or psychogenic pain component. Currently available methods do not bring pain relief to satisfying number of patients and, if used improperly, can cause a number of complications. Therefore, future treatments should focus primarily on alleviating pain, but also on reducing possible side effects. In this article we cover recent and promising pharmacological and non- pharmacological developments emerging in the field of CRC treatment.

Abstract
Background: Transarterial radioembolization (TARE) is used to treat unresectable colorectal cancer with liver metastases (CRCLM). This study aimed to assess survival after TARE and to identify potential prognostic factors in this patient population. Methods: Patients with unresectable and chemorefractory CRCLM treated with TARE at our institution between February 2006 and September 2015 were included in the study. Survival rate, hepatic tumor response, and potential prognostic factors were analyzed. Results: In the 43 study patients, the mean follow-up was 15.0 ± 14.2 months, with a median survival of 13.0 months and 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-year survival rates of 52.1%, 24.9%, 21.4%, 21.4%, and 7.1%, respectively. The mean activity of yttrium-90 administered was 1.55 ± 0.28 GBq for the disease-controlled group and 1.19 ± 0.27 GBq for the progressive disease group (p= 0.031). Survival was correlated with Child-Pugh class (p< 0.001), hepatic tumor response (p= 0.001), and baseline carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) level (p= 0.013). Conclusion: Child-Pugh class B, low degree of hepatic tumor response, and normal baseline CEA levels are prognostic factors for poorer survival after TARE in patients with unresectable and chemorefractory CRCLM. Hepatic tumor response is related to radiation activity delivered to the liver.

Abstract
PURPOSE Regional inductive moderate hyperthermia in combination with chemotherapy can improve the therapeutic efficacy in patients with breast cancer with multiple liver metastases. METHODS The study included 103 patients with breast cancer with multiple liver metastases: 53 patients (main group) who received a combined chemotherapy (TC drug combination) and regional inductive moderate hyperthermia treatment and 50 patients (control group) who received chemotherapy (TC drug combination) alone. Regional inductive moderate hyperthermia exploited electromagnetic fields with an operating frequency of 27.17 ± 0.16 MHz and output power of 75 W. Treatment results were assessed by computed tomography and ultrasound imaging. RESULTS Partial regression was defined as a 30% decrease in the sum of the maximum diameters of investigated tumors. In the current study, partial regression was described in 8 (15.1%) patients assigned to the main group and 2 (4%) patients in the control ( P < .05). The process stabilization was reported in 32 (60.4%) patients receiving the combined treatment and 19 (38%) in the control ( P < .05). Equally important, tumor progression was observed in 13 (24.5%) patients representing the main group and 29 (58%) in the control. During a 30-minute treatment session, a temperature increase overlaying greater than 90% of the liver projection exposed to electromagnetic irradiation was not exceeding 40°C. CONCLUSION The combined regional inductive moderate hyperthermia and chemotherapy treatment increased the overall therapeutic efficacy by 33.9% (χ2 = 12.182; P < .01).

Abstract
Hyperthermia (HT) is one of the hot topics that have been discussed over decades. However, it never made its way into primetime. The basic biological rationale of heat to enhance the effect of radiation, chemotherapeutic agents, and immunotherapy is evident. Preclinical work has confirmed this effect. HT may trigger changes in perfusion and oxygenation as well as inhibition of DNA repair mechanisms. Moreover, there is evidence for immune stimulation and the induction of systemic immune responses. Despite the increasing number of solid clinical studies, only few centers have included this adjuvant treatment into their repertoire. Over the years, abundant prospective and randomized clinical data have emerged demonstrating a clear benefit of combined HT and radiotherapy for multiple entities such as superficial breast cancer recurrences, cervix carcinoma, or cancers of the head and neck. Regarding less investigated indications, the existing data are promising and more clinical trials are currently recruiting patients. How do we proceed from here? Preclinical evidence is present. Multiple indications benefit from additional HT in the clinical setting. This article summarizes the present evidence and develops ideas for future research.
