Abstract
The biochemical characteristics of polyphenols contribute to their numerous advantageous impacts on human health. The existing research suggests that plant phenolics, whether consumed orally or applied directly to the skin, can be beneficial in alleviating symptoms and avoiding the development of many skin disorders. Phenolic compounds, which are both harmless and naturally present, exhibit significant potential in terms of counteracting the effects of skin damage, aging, diseases, wounds, and burns. Moreover, polyphenols play a preventive role and possess the ability to delay the progression of several skin disorders, ranging from small and discomforting to severe and potentially life-threatening ones. This article provides a concise overview of recent research on the potential therapeutic application of polyphenols for skin conditions. It specifically highlights studies that have investigated clinical trials and the use of polyphenol-based nanoformulations for the treatment of different skin ailments.

Abstract
Phytochemicals represent a large and diverse group of naturally occurring compounds, bioactive nutrients, or phytonutrients produced by plants, widely found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains products, legumes, beans, herbs, seeds, nuts, tea, and dark chocolate. They are classified according to their chemical structures and functional properties. Flavonoids belong to the phenolic class of phytochemicals with potential solid pharmacological effects as modulators of multiple signal transduction pathways. Their beneficial effect on the human body is associated with their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimutagenic, and anticarcinogenic properties. Flavonoids are also widely used in various nutritional, pharmaceutical, medical, and cosmetic applications. In our review, we discuss the positive effect of flavonoids on chronic skin diseases such as vitiligo, psoriasis, acne, and atopic dermatitis.

Abstract
Dopamine (DA), its derivatives, and dopaminergic drugs are compounds widely used in the management of diseases related to the nervous system. However, DA receptors have been identified in nonneuronal tissues, which has been related to their therapeutic potential in pathologies such as sepsis or septic shock, blood pressure, renal failure, diabetes, and obesity, among others. In addition, DA and dopaminergic drugs have shown anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties in different kinds of cells. AIM To compile the mechanism of action of DA and the main dopaminergic drugs and show the findings that support the therapeutic potential of these molecules for the treatment of neurological and non-neurological diseases considering their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions. METHOD We performed a review article. An exhaustive search for information was carried out in specialized databases such as PubMed, PubChem, ProQuest, EBSCO, Scopus, Science Direct, Web of Science, Bookshelf, DrugBank, Livertox, and Clinical Trials. RESULTS We showed that DA and dopaminergic drugs have emerged for the management of neuronal and nonneuronal diseases with important therapeutic potential as anti-inflammatories and antioxidants. CONCLUSIONS DA and DA derivatives can be an attractive treatment strategy and a promising approach to slowing the progression of disorders through repositioning.

Abstract
Vitiligo is a disease characterized by skin discoloration, and no safe and effective drugs have been developed until now. New drug research and development are imminent. This article reviews the research on small-molecule drugs for vitiligo from 1990 to 2021 at home and abroad. They are classified according to their structures and mechanisms of action, including natural products and derivatives, anti-oxidative stress drugs, immunosuppressants, prostaglandins, etc. The research on their anti-vitiligo activity, structural modification, new dosage forms, clinical trials, and the development trend in new anti-vitiligo drugs are reviewed, which provides important references for the development of new drugs.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Vitiligo pathogenesis is complicated, and several possibilities were suggested. However, it is well-known that the metabolism of pigments plays a significant role in the pathogenicity of the disease. OBJECTIVES We explored the role of amino acids in vitiligo using targeted metabolomics. METHODS The amino acid profile was studied in plasma using liquid chromatography. First, 22 amino acids were derivatized and precisely determined. Next, the concentrations of the amino acids and the molar ratios were calculated in 31 patients and 34 healthy individuals. RESULTS The differential concentrations of amino acids were analyzed and eight amino acids, i.e., cysteine, arginine, lysine, ornithine, proline, glutamic acid, histidine, and glycine were observed differentially. The ratios of cysteine, glutamic acid, and proline increased significantly in Vitiligo patients, whereas arginine, lysine, ornithine, glycine, and histidine decreased significantly compared to healthy individuals. Considering the percentage of skin area, we also showed that glutamic acid significantly has a higher amount in patients with less than 25% involvement compared to others. Finally, cysteine and lysine are considered promising candidates for diagnosing and developing the disorder with high accuracy (0.96). CONCLUSION The findings are consistent with the previously illustrated mechanism of Vitiligo, such as production deficiency in melanin and an increase in immune activity and oxidative stress. Furthermore, new evidence was provided by using amino acids profile toward the pathogenicity of the disorder.

Abstract
Phenolic compounds are a large, heterogeneous group of secondary metabolites found in various plants and herbal substances. From the perspective of dermatology, the most important benefits for human health are their pharmacological effects on oxidation processes, inflammation, vascular pathology, immune response, precancerous and oncological lesions or formations, and microbial growth. Because the nature of phenolic compounds is designed to fit the phytochemical needs of plants and not the biopharmaceutical requirements for a specific route of delivery (dermal or other), their utilization in cutaneous formulations sets challenges to drug development. These are encountered often due to insufficient water solubility, high molecular weight and low permeation and/or high reactivity (inherent for the set of representatives) and subsequent chemical/photochemical instability and ionizability. The inclusion of phenolic phytochemicals in lipid-based nanocarriers (such as nanoemulsions, liposomes and solid lipid nanoparticles) is so far recognized as a strategic physico-chemical approach to improve their in situ stability and introduction to the skin barriers, with a view to enhance bioavailability and therapeutic potency. This current review is focused on recent advances and achievements in this area.

Abstract
Vitiligo is an acquired pigmentary disorder afflicting 0.5-2% of the world population for both sexes and all races with a capricious and unpredictable course. It has a complex etiology and varies in its manifestation, progression and response to treatment. Even if the precise aetiology and pathobiology of the disease are complex and still debated, recent evidence supports that vitiligo is a T CD8+ cell-mediated autoimmune disease triggered by oxidative stress. To date no clinical, biological and histological criteria allow us to establish the prognosis with certainty. The choice of the best therapy for adult and childhood vitiligo is based on various factors, such as the patient's age, psychological condition and expectations, distribution and extension of skin lesions, type of vitiligo (stable or not) and availability and cost of therapeutic options. Since vitiligo has a deep psychological impact on patients and their quality of life, treating the disease is very important. As dermatologists, we have important goals in the treatment of vitiligo patients: stabilization of the disease progression, repigmentation of the lesions and especially the persistence of the aforementioned repigmentation. Although several medical and surgical therapeutic options have been proposed, no definite cure has yet been developed and the long-term persistence of repigmentation is unpredictable. We review the different therapeutic options with particular attention on the recurrence rate.

Abstract
Nanotechnology is currently a hot topic in dermatology and nutraceutical/cosmeceutical delivery, owing to the advantages it provides in terms of enhancing the skin permeation of drugs, as well as increasing their therapeutic efficacy in the treatment of different dermatological diseases. There is also a great interest in the topical delivery of nutraceuticals; which are natural compounds with both therapeutic and cosmetic benefits, in order to overcome the side effects of topically applied chemical drugs. Quercetin is a key nutraceutical with topical antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which was reported to be effective in the treatment of different dermatological diseases, however, its topical therapeutic activity is hindered by its poor skin penetration. This review highlights the topical applications of quercetin, and summarizes the nanocarrier-based solutions to its percutaneous delivery challenges.

Abstract
Vitiligo is an autoimmune depigment disease results from extensive melanocytes destruction. The destruction of melanocyte is thought to be of multifactorial causation. Genome-wide associated studies have identified single-nucleotide polymorphisms in a panel of susceptible loci as risk factors in melanocyte death. But vitiligo onset can't be solely attributed to a susceptive genetic background. Oxidative stress triggered by elevated levels of reactive oxygen species accounts for melanocytic molecular and organelle dysfunction, a minority of melanocyte demise, and melanocyte-specific antigens exposure. Of note, the self-responsive immune function directly contributes to the bulk of melanocyte deaths in vitiligo. The aberrantly heightened innate immunity, type-1-skewed T helper, and incompetent regulatory T cells tip the balance toward autoreaction and CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes finally execute the killing of melanocytes, possibly alarmed by resident memory T cells. In addition to the well-established apoptosis and necrosis, we discuss several death modalities like oxeiptosis, ferroptosis, and necroptosis that are probably employed in melanocyte destruction. This review focuses on the various mechanisms of melanocytic death in vitiligo pathogenesis to demonstrate a panorama of that. We hope to provide new insights into vitiligo pathogenesis and treatment strategies by the review.

Abstract
Introduction Aragvadhadi Taila (ART) is one of the herbomineral formulations mentioned in Chakradatta indicated in Shwitra (vitiligo). Modification of Taila form into gel form reduces the risk of contamination in view of arsenical contents (Manahshila, Haratala) assures precise dose administration at desired site (by avoiding spreading). The gel is a comparatively acceptable dosage form than that of medicated oil. Aim The aim of the study is to evaluate the comparative efficacy of Aragvadhadi formulation in Taila (ART: Aragvadhadi Taila) and gel (ARG: Aragvadhadi gel) dosage forms with the internal administration of Rasayana Churna in the management of Shwitra. Materials and methods The study was a randomized open labeled, involving 66 patients of Shwitra that were randomly divided into two groups. Patients registered in group A (n = 34) were treated with local applications of ART and group B (n = 32) with ARG for 2 months. Rasayana Churna (3 g), along with the equal quantity of honey and Ghrita was given twice a day after the meal in both groups. Wilcoxon signed-rank test was applied to evaluate the effect of therapy in the individual group for subjective criteria like vitiligo area scoring index score, size and number of patches, Rukshata (dryness), Saparidaha (burning sensation), Bahalatva (thickening), Kandu (itching) while the comparison of results between the groups for the same by applying Coefficient of Variation (CV). Results Group B showed better and consistent results in all signs and symptoms except Rukshata, Saparidaha in terms of Coefficient of Variation. In both the groups, statistically highly significant improvement was found in signs and symptoms of Shwitra such as Saparidaha, Kandu, size of patches and number of patches; however, the difference between the groups was statistically insignificant. Conclusion Both the forms (ART, ARG) of Aragvadhadi formulation along with Rasayana Churna were found as a safe and effective treatment in vitiligo with significant pigment regeneration capacity as topical use for application over 2 months.

Abstract
Background: Vitiligo is an autoimmune skin condition that affects people globally anywhere, from <0.1% to more than 8% of individuals. The disease destroys skin melanocytes, resulting in a patchy depigmentation of the skin. About 50% of all patients develop the disease before their 20s. Methods: We systematically searched the literature and reviewed the evidence for the use of nutritional supplements and diet in the management of vitiligo. Embase and Medline were searched for diet, herbal, and nutrition-based clinical studies. Additional filters were applied that looked for controlled trial or randomized controlled trial and article or article in press or letter and English and clinical study. We selected clinical studies in humans that showed how diet or natural supplements can improve the symptoms of vitiligo in all of our searches. Results: There were 62 manuscripts that resulted from the PubMed search and 259 from the Embase search. A final of 26 studies were reviewed, and other supplemental case and case-control studies were used to introduce diet components that may influence either exacerbation or amelioration of vitiligo. Possible mechanisms of action are introduced for natural and supplemental interventions. Conclusion: Some of the supplements reviewed include Gingko biloba, oral Polypodium leucotomos, alpha lipoic acid, vitamins B12, D, and E, folic acid, phenylalanine, canthaxanthin, Nigella sativa oil, and other combined herbal bio-actives. Overall, the growing evidence is promising, but more studies are needed in this area to further explore the impact that supplements and diet can have on vitiligo management. The most promising therapies included oral phenylalanine as adjuvant therapy with UVA therapy, oral G. biloba as monotherapy, both of which can be used with other traditional therapies, and oral P. leucotomos with phototherapy or photochemotherapy.

Abstract
Vitiligo is an autoimmune skin disorder characterized by depigmented patches of the skin associated with, among several factors, dysregulation and death of melanocytes. Currently, the treatment of vitiligo is based both on the arrest of the progression of active disease and on the stimulation of the skin repigmentation. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of autologous micrografts and narrowband ultraviolet B (NBUVB) phototherapy for skin repigmentation of patients with bilateral stable vitiligo. Autologous micrografts are derived from mechanical disaggregation of small pieces of the patient's own skin, while phototherapy is a strategy treatment already used. Twenty patients with stable bilateral vitiligo were treated, showing a mean percentage rate of 59.1% at baseline. Combined treatment by autologous micrografts and NBUVB was performed only on the lesions of the hands, and the clinical follow up was performed after 3 and 6 months by photographs taken under Wood's light. After 6 months, we classed 100% of patients as responders. We also reported a mean of repigmentation rate of 36.7% after 3 months and 64.6% after 6 months of treatment. In particular, six of the 20 patients reached a marked repigmentation rate (75-100%), four moderate (51-75%) and 10 mild (26-50%). No adverse effects were observed and no drugs were administrated as co-adjuvant therapy. These results are suggestive of a potential wide use of autologous micrografts associated with NBUVB phototherapy for the treatment of stable vitiligo.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vitiligo is an acquired pigmentary disease, that causes progressive loss of melanocytes, resulting in hypopigmented skin patches. Current treatments aim at stopping the disease progression and achieving repigmentation of the amelanotic areas. Corticosteroids, surgery, topical immunomodulators, total depigmentation of normal pigmented skin and phototherapy are current treatment options for vitiligo although phototherapy remains the treatment of choice. There is no documented evidence that herbal bio-active products may also be effective treatment options for vitiligo. AIM This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of Vitilinex® (herbal bio- actives) alone and in combination with UVB narrowband (311 nm) phototherapy, in the treatment of localised stable or active forms of vitiligo. MATERIAL AND METHODS Sixty two subjects with mean age 34.5 years (range: 18-58 years) with mild to moderate vitiligo, consisting of 36 females and 26 males were randomly divided into three treatment groups - Group A (13 females, 10 males) treated with Vitilinex® alone; Group B (12 females, 11 males) were treated with Vitilinex® in combination with narrowband UVB (311 nm) phototherapy for 15 seconds, using a handheld lamp and Group C (8 females, 8 males) were treated with nbUVB (311 nm) phototherapy alone, for 15 seconds over a 12-week period. RESULTS In Group A, 9 patients (39%) achieved outstanding improvement with a re-pigmentation rate higher than 75%, with 2 patients experiencing total repigmentation. 6 patients (26%) had marked improvement with a repigmentation rate between 50-75% while 5 patients (22%) showed a moderate response between 25-50% re-pigmentation rate. 3 patients (13%) had minimal or no improvement. In Group B, 16 patients (69.5%) achieved outstanding improvement with a re-pigmentation rate higher than 75%, with 12 patients experiencing total re-pigmentation. 4 patients (17.5 %) achieved a marked improvement with a re-pigmentation rate between 50-75%; 2 patients (8.7%) showed a moderate response with a re-pigmentation rate between 25-50%. 1 (4.3%) patient had minimal or no improvement. In Group C, 6 patients (37.5%) achieved a re-pigmentation rate higher than 75%, with 2 patients experiencing total re-pigmentation. 4 patients (25%) achieved marked improvement with a re-pigmentation rate between 50-75% while 3 patients (18.75%) had a re-pigmentation rate between 25-50%. 3 patients (18.75%) had minimal or no improvement. CONCLUSION Vitilinex® herbal bio-actives in combination with nbUVB is a more effective treatment option for vitiligo with 87% of the patients achieving a re-pigmentation rate higher than 50%, compared to Vitilinex® alone (65%) or nbUVB alone (62.5%).

Abstract
AIM: To examine the efficacy and safety of Narrowband ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) in Vietnamese vitiligo patients. METHODS: We recruited thirty-one patients (14 males, 17 females), aged from 7 to 67 years, with both segmental vitiligo (SV) and non-segmental vitiligo (NSV), treated three times weekly with NB-UVB. The starting dose for adults from 15 years old and children less than 15 years old was 200 mJ/cm2 and 150 mJ/cm2, respectively, with 50 mJ/cm2 and 20 mJ/cm2 dose increments at each subsequent visit, respectively, until mild erythema lasting less than 24 hrs reported by patient, given for a period of 6 months. Response to therapy was assessed based on VASI score changes. RESULTS: Based upon our results, 38.7% (12/31) of patients achieved a very good response of more than 50% VASI changes, 41.9% (13/31) obtained a good response (VASI changed from 25 to 50%). Total good and very good response to therapy significantly increased with prolonged treatment, increasing from 19.4% to 64.5% and 80.6% after 2, 4 and 6 months, respectively. Localised NSV patients obtained good and very good response significantly more frequently than generalised NSV (55.6% versus 18.2%). Adverse effects were minimal, of which one case developed herpes simplex, and 4 cases reported mild photo burn reaction which completely disappeared after adjusting the dose. CONCLUSION: NB-UVB therapy is an effective and safe tool in the management of Vietnamese vitiligo patients.
