Abstract
The most recent developments on Pickering emulsions deal with the design of responsive emulsions able to undergo fast destabilization under the effect of an external stimulus. In this scenario, soft colloidal particles like microgels are considered novel class suitable emulsifiers. Microgels particles self-assemblies are highly deformable at interfaces covering higher surfaces than hard particles and their interfacial behavior strongly depends on external-stimuli. Microgels are very diverse owing to the large variety of them from the point of view of possible combinations of stimuli-responsiveness and different microstructures (crosslinking density and distribution). Herein, we illustrate the use of different types of responsive microgels not only from a structural point of view but also even from physical one. For that, the effect of different microgels parameters such as internal structure and charge density on mechanical properties of the interface will be discussed.

Abstract
Film-forming sprays offer many advantages compared to conventional topical preparations because they can provide uniform drug distribution and dose, increased bioavailability, lower incidence of irritation, continuous drug release, and accelerated wound healing through moisture control. Film-forming sprays consist of polymers and excipients that improve the characteristics of preparations and enhance the stability of active substances. Each type of polymer and excipient will produce films with different features. Therefore, the various types of polymers and excipients and their evaluation standards need to be examined for the development of a more optimal form of film-forming spray. The selected literature included research on polymers as film-forming matrices and the application of these sprays for medical purposes or for potential medical use. This article discusses the types and concentrations of polymers and excipients, sprayer types, evaluations, and critical parameters in determining the sprayability and film characteristics. The review concludes that both natural and synthetic polymers that have in situ film or viscoelastic properties can be used to optimise topical drug delivery.

Abstract
The thermosensitive polymers of N-vinylcaprolactam P1, P2, P3, P4, and P5 were synthesized via the surfactant free precipitation polymerization (SFPP) at 70 °C in the presence of cationic initiator 2,2’-azobis[2-methylpropionamidine] dihydrochloride (AMPA). The influence of various concentrations of initiator AMPA on particle size, aggregation and lower critical temperature solution (LCST) was investigated by dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurement. The conductivity was measured in the course of the synthesis and during temperature decrease of the reaction mixtures. The polymers were characterized by Attenuated Total Reflectance-Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), 1H NMR, and thermogravimetric analysis. Thermal parameters of the degradations process were investigated using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA/DTA) under non-isothermal conditions in N2 atmosphere. The samples were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction analysis (PXRD).The hydrodynamic diameter (HD), polydispersity index (PDI) and zeta potential (ZP) were measured in aqueous dispersions of the synthesized polymers in temperature 18–45 °C. HD and PDI values at 18 °C were 137.23 ± 67.65 nm (PDI = 0.53 ± 0.18), 83.40 ± 74.46 nm (PDI = 0.35 ± 0.08), 22.11 ± 0.29 nm (PDI = 0.45 ± 0.05), 29.27 ± 0.50 nm (PDI = 0.41 ± 0.04), 39.18 ± 0.57 nm (PDI = 0.38 ± 0.01) for P1, P2, P3, P4, and P5, respectively. The aqueous solutions of the obtained polymers at 18–45 °C had a positive charge. ZP’s for P1, P2, P3, P4, and P5 polymers at 18 °C were 11.64 ± 4.27 mV, 12.71 ± 3.56 mV, 3.24 ± 0.10 mV, 0.77 ± 0.28 mV, 1.78 ± 0.56 mV respectively. The LCST range was between 32 and 38 °C. We conclude that the concentration of initiator affects the size of obtained polymeric spheres and theirs LCST.

Abstract
Perivascular medical devices and perivascular drug delivery systems are conceived for local application around a blood vessel during open vascular surgery. These systems provide mechanical support and/or pharmacological activity for the prevention of intimal hyperplasia following vessel injury. Despite abundant reports in the literature and numerous clinical trials, no efficient perivascular treatment is available. In this review, the existing perivascular medical devices and perivascular drug delivery systems, such as polymeric gels, meshes, sheaths, wraps, matrices, and metal meshes, are jointly evaluated. The key criteria for the design of an ideal perivascular system are identified. Perivascular treatments should have mechanical specifications that ensure system localization, prolonged retention and adequate vascular constriction. From the data gathered, it appears that a drug is necessary to increase the efficacy of these systems. As such, the release kinetics of pharmacological agents should match the development of the pathology. A successful perivascular system must combine these optimized pharmacological and mechanical properties to be efficient.

Abstract
In the study, four kinds of pluronics (P123, F68, F127 and F108) with varying hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) values were modified and conjugated on 4th generation of polyamidoamine dendrimer (PAMAM). The obtained results from FT-IR, 1H NMR and GPC showed that the pluronics effectively conjugated on the dendrimer. The molecular weight of four PAMAM G4.0-Pluronics and its morphologies are in range of 200.15-377.14kDa and around 60-180nm in diameter by TEM, respectively. Loading efficiency and release of hydrophobic fluorouracil (5-FU) anticancer drug were evaluated by HPLC; Interesting that the dendrimer nanocarrier was conjugated with the highly lipophilic pluronic P123 (G4.0-P123) exhibiting a higher drug loading efficiency (up to 76.25%) in comparison with another pluronics. Live/dead fibroblast cell staining assay mentioned that all conjugated nanocarriers are highly biocompatible. The drug-loaded nanocarriers also indicated a highly anti-proliferative activity against MCF-7 breast cancer cell. The obtained results demonstrated a great potential of the highly lipophilic pluronics-conjugated nanocarriers in hydrophobic drugs delivery for biomedical applications.

Abstract
Development of smart bioactive scaffolds is of importance in tissue engineering, where cell proliferation, differentiation and migration within scaffolds can be regulated by the interactions between cells and scaffold through the use of growth factors (GFs) and extra cellular matrix peptides. One challenge in this area is to spatiotemporally control the dose, sequence and profile of release of GFs so as to regulate cellular fates during tissue regeneration. This challenge would be addressed by rate-programming of nano-particulate delivery systems, where the release of GFs via polymeric nanoparticles is controlled by means of the methods of, such as externally-controlled and physicochemically/architecturally-modulated so as to mimic the profile of physiological GFs. Identifying and understanding such factors as the desired release profiles, mechanisms of release, physicochemical characteristics of polymeric nanoparticles, and externally-triggering stimuli are essential for designing and optimizing such delivery systems. This review surveys the recent studies on the desired release profiles of GFs in various tissue engineering applications, elucidates the major release mechanisms and critical factors affecting release profiles, and overviews the role played by the mathematical models for optimizing nano-particulate delivery systems. Potentials of stimuli responsive nanoparticles for spatiotemporal control of GF release are also presented, along with the recent advances in strategies for spatiotemporal control of GF delivery within tissue engineered scaffolds. The recommendation for the future studies to overcome challenges for developing sophisticated particulate delivery systems in tissue engineering is discussed prior to the presentation of conclusions drawn from this paper.

Abstract
Herein, we report the successful development of a novel nanosystem capable of an efficient delivery and temperature-triggered drug release specifically aimed at cancer. The water-soluble 130.1 ± 0.2 nm iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) were obtained via synthesis of a monodispersed iron oxide core stabilized with tetramethylammonium hydroxide pentahydrate (TMAOH), followed by coating with the thermoresponsive copolymer poly-(NIPAM-stat-AAm)-block-PEI (PNAP). The PNAP layer on the surface of the IONP undergoes reversible temperature-dependent structural changes from a swollen to a collapsed state resulting in the controlled release of anticancer drugs loaded in the delivery vehicle. We demonstrated that the phase transition temperature of the prepared copolymer can be precisely tuned to the desired value in the range of 36°C-44°C by changing the monomers ratio during the preparation of the nanoparticles. Evidence of modification of the IONPs with the thermoresponsive copolymer is proven by ATR-FTIR and a quantitative analysis of the polymeric and iron oxide content obtained by thermogravimetric analysis. When loaded with doxorubicin (DOX), the IONPs-PNAP revealed a triggered drug release at a temperature that is a few degrees higher than the phase transition temperature of a copolymer. Furthermore, an in vitro study demonstrated an efficient internalization of the nanoparticles into the cancer cells and showed that the drug-free IONPs-PNAP were nontoxic toward the cells. In contrast, sufficient therapeutic effect was observed for the DOX-loaded nanosystem as a function of temperature. Thus, the developed temperature-tunable IONPs-based delivery system showed high potential for remotely triggered drug delivery and the eradication of cancer cells.

Abstract
We report on nanothin multilayer hydrogels of cross-linked poly(N-vinylcaprolactam) (PVCL) that exhibit distinctive and reversible thermoresponsive behavior. The single-component PVCL hydrogels were produced by selective cross-linking of PVCL in layer-by-layer films of PVCL-NH(2) copolymers assembled with poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA) via hydrogen bonding. The degree of the PVCL hydrogel film shrinkage, defined as the ratio of wet thicknesses at 25°C to 50°C, was demonstrated to be 1.9±0.1 and 1.3±0.1 for the films made from PVCL-NH(2)-7 and PVCL-NH(2)-14 copolymers, respectively. No temperature-responsive behavior was observed for non-cross-linked two-component films due to the presence of PMAA. We also demonstrated that temperature-sensitive PVCL capsules of cubical and spherical shapes could be fabricated as hollow hydrogel replicas of inorganic templates. The cubical (PVCL)(7) capsules retained their cubical shape when temperature was elevated from 25°C to 50°C exhibiting 21±1% decrease in the capsule size. Spherical hydrogel capsules demonstrated similar shrinkage of 23±1%. The temperature-triggered capsule size changes were completely reversible. Our work opens new prospects for developing biocompatible and nanothin hydrogel-based coatings and containers for temperate-regulating drug delivery, cellular uptake, sensing, and transport behavior in microfluidic devices.

Abstract
Biomaterial-centred bacterial infections present common and challenging complications with medical implants like ureteral stent which provide substratum for the biofilm formation. Hence the purpose of this study is to make antibacterial stent surface with biodegradable polymer (tocopherol acetate) and anti-infective agents (norfloxacin and metronidazole) using a modified dip-coating procedure. This is done by impregnating the stent pieces in the anti-infective solution (a mixture of norfloxacin-metronidazole and polymer) for uniform surface coating (drug-carrier-coated stents). After coating, agar diffusion test was performed as qualitative test to find out the sensitivity of coated stents against the clinical isolates, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Escherichia coli. Quantitative test was measured by calculating the numbers of adhered bacteria on coated and uncoated stents by incubating the stent pieces in artificial urine. Difference in the number of viable bacteria adhered on the surface of coated and uncoated stents were statistically calculated using chi square test with p < 0.05 considered significant. The stent colonising ability of Staphylococcus epidermidis and Escherichia coli in a controlled environment chamber was determined using two-challenge dose of the isolates by in vitro challenge test. In qualitative test, the zone of inhibition around the coated stents showed sensitivity against the clinical isolates. In quantitative test, the number of adhered bacteria on the surface of coated stents was reduced to a significant level (p < 0.05). The polymer, tocopherol acetate is highly biodegradable in nature. Due to its degrading ability in body tissues, it releases the anti-infective drugs at a constant and sustained rate.

Abstract
High viscosity is an inherent problem of sequencing matrices made of hydrophilic polymers. This problem is amplified in separations using microchips where the channels are even smaller. A novel thermal-associating graft copolymer, using linear polyacrylamide (LPA) as the backbone and poly(propylene oxide) (PPO) as the graft side chain was synthesized. The injection problem could be resolved by introducing PPO side chains that can be assembled by using temperature changes but without an obvious detrimental effect on the sieving ability of the LPA. Viscosity measurement showed that these LPA-g-PPO copolymers had a transition temperature of approximately 40 degrees C, above which a significant increase in viscosity was observed. The sequencing performance depended on the thermal association properties of PPO and related parameters. Without optimization, a read length of 1000 bases with a single base resolution of 0.3 was achieved within an hour on an ABI 310 analyzer, using 1.8 wt% LPA-g-PPO (1.8 MDa, PPO, 0.2%). This novel thermal reversible copolymer solution can be a promising candidate as a viable matrix for DNA sequencing in CE, and even more so in microchip electrophoresis.
