Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence-based practice (EBP) competency is an expected outcome of baccalaureate education; however, research indicates nursing graduates enter practice with competency gaps. PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to explore the challenges accelerated baccalaureate students experience when learning the steps of EBP. METHODS A qualitative, descriptive design was used to identify bottlenecks to student learning. RESULTS Learning the steps of EBP in an accelerated format was challenging for students. Data analysis revealed 3 types of bottlenecks that stalled learning: cognitive, procedural, and emotional. CONCLUSIONS Faculty build EBP competency by making explicit the steps that help students progress. Scaffolded learning, collaborative partnerships, and reflective practices are recommended to support student learning in accelerated formats.

Abstract
AIM To explore nurses' perceptions of evidence-based nursing courses for undergraduates through academic-practice partnerships. DESIGN A deductive thematic analysis based on the practice-academic logic model. METHODS Fifteen academic and clinical nurses were interviewed between November and December 2023, either online or through face-to-face meetings. Each interview lasted 20-30 min. The interview outline was constructed based on the practice-academic partnership logic model, which was followed during the process of recorded, analyzed, and checked. RESULTS Themes identified include inputs (e.g., stakeholder commitment), activities (e.g., communication), outputs (e.g., nursing projects), and outcomes (e.g., improved competence). These themes highlight the various aspects and outcomes of academic-practice partnerships in evidence-based nursing courses. CONCLUSION Effective academic-practice partnerships are crucial for developing evidence-based nursing courses, leading to positive educational and professional outcomes. IMPACT Nurses' perceptions provide valuable guidelines for developing effective evidence-based nursing courses. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION No patient or public users participated in this study.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study explored nurses' perceptions of the core competencies required for providing postresuscitation care in both in-hospital and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. DESIGN Qualitative conventional content analysis. PARTICIPANTS 17 nurses selected with purposeful sampling method. SETTING Three educational hospitals in northwest of Iran. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS Semi-structured interviews were used for data collection and they were analysed using conventional content analysis. RESULTS Seven main categories have emerged from the data. The core competencies for nurses providing postresuscitation were identified as: quality assurance, providing evidence-based care, monitoring and presence, situation management, professionalism, positive attitude and providing family centred care. CONCLUSIONS The postresuscitation period is a unique and critical time requiring highly competent nursing care. Several core competencies for providing high-quality nursing care during postresuscitation period were identified through nurses' experience in caring for patients postresuscitation.

Abstract
AIM This study aims to establish postgraduate students' perceptions of the organizational culture and readiness for evidence-based practice of their workplaces in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. BACKGROUND Nurse shortages and a reliance on a transient nurse workforce have long been a challenge in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Developing a home-grown nurse workforce, a key objective of the Government of Saudi Arabia, can help to address this. Evidence-based practice offers a mechanism to address this. Evidence-based practice implementation is heavily reliant on the prevailing organizational culture. Establishing the organizational culture and readiness for evidence-based practice is crucial for sustainable evidence-based practice implementation. METHODS A pre-experimental pilot study collected data from the same participants at three different points. As part of this, a questionnaire measuring organizational culture and readiness for evidence-based practice was administered twice. Descriptive, inferential and correlational statistics were employed to analyse the data. RESULTS Results demonstrated improved participant perceptions of the organizational culture and readiness for evidence-based practice of their workplaces between the first (M = 76.58, SD = 19.2) and second (M = 92.10, SD = 23.68) data collection points, indicating moderate movement towards a culture of evidence-based practice. Strengths, challenges and opportunities for improvement were identified. CONCLUSION This study established participants' perceptions of the organizational culture and readiness for evidence-based practice of their workplaces, affording insight into context-specific strategies to embed evidence-based practice in health care organizations. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT Assessing an organization's culture and readiness for evidence-based practice (EBP) can afford insight on the strengths, challenges and opportunities that exist to equip nurse managers to advance evidence-based practice at individual, professional and organizational levels. This study demonstrated the importance of promoting an environment conducive to EBP and putting in place the necessary resources to support evidence-based practice implementation. Nurse managers can play a central role in this.

Abstract
Background To produce graduates with strong knowledge and skills in the application of evidence into healthcare practice, it is imperative that all undergraduate health and social care students are taught, in an efficient manner, the processes involved in applying evidence into practice. The two main concepts that are linked to the application of evidence into practice are "evidence-based practice" and "evidence-informed practice." Globally, evidence-based practice is regarded as the gold standard for the provision of safe and effective healthcare. Despite the extensive awareness of evidence-based practice, healthcare practitioners continue to encounter difficulties in its implementation. This has generated an ongoing international debate as to whether evidence-based practice should be replaced with evidence-informed practice, and which of the two concepts better facilitate the effective and consistent application of evidence into healthcare practice. Objectives The primary objective of this systematic review was to evaluate and synthesize literature on the effectiveness of evidence-informed practice versus evidence-based practice educational interventions for improving knowledge, attitudes, understanding, and behavior of undergraduate health and social care students toward the application of evidence into practice. Specifically, we planned to answer the following research questions: (1) Is there a difference (i.e., difference in content, outcome) between evidence-informed practice and evidence-based practice educational interventions? (2) Does participating in evidence-informed practice educational interventions relative to evidence-based practice educational interventions facilitate the application of evidence into practice (as measured by, e.g., self-reports on effective application of evidence into practice)? (3) Do both evidence-informed practice and evidence-based practice educational interventions targeted at undergraduate health and social care students influence patient outcomes (as measured by, e.g., reduced morbidity and mortality, absence of nosocomial infections)? (4) What factors affect the impact of evidence-informed practice and evidence-based practice educational interventions (as measured by, e.g., course content, mode of delivery, multifaceted interventions, standalone intervention)? Search Methods We utilized a number of search strategies to identify published and unpublished studies: (1) Electronic databases: we searched Academic Search Complete, Academic search premier, AMED, Australian education index, British education index, Campbell systematic reviews, Canada bibliographic database (CBCA Education), CINAHL, Cochrane Library, Database of Abstracts of Reviews on Effectiveness, Dissertation Abstracts International, Education Abstracts, Education complete, Education full text: Wilson, ERIC, Evidence-based program database, JBI database of systematic reviews, Medline, PsycInfo, Pubmed, SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), and Scopus; (2) A web search using search engines such as Google and Google scholar; (3) Grey literature search: we searched OpenGrey (System for Information on Grey Literature in Europe), System for information on Grey Literature, the Society for Research on Educational Effectiveness, and Virginia Henderson Global Nursing e-Repository; (4) Hand searching of journal articles; and (5) Tracking bibliographies of previously retrieved studies. The searches were conducted in June 2019. Selection Criteria We planned to include both quantitative (including randomized controlled trials, non-randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental, before and after studies, prospective and retrospective cohort studies) and qualitative primary studies (including, case series, individual case reports, and descriptive cross-sectional studies, focus groups, and interviews, ethnography, phenomenology, and grounded theory), that evaluate and compare the effectiveness of any formal evidence-informed practice educational intervention to evidence-based practice educational intervention. The primary outcomes were evidence-informed practice and evidence-based practice knowledge, attitudes, understanding, and behavior. We planned to include, as participants, undergraduate pre-registration health and social care students from any geographical area. Data Collection and Analysis Two authors independently screened the search results to assess articles for their eligibility for inclusion. The screening involved an initial screening of the title and abstracts, and subsequently, the full-text of selected articles. Discrepancies were resolved through discussion or consultation with a third author. We found no article eligible for inclusion in this review. Main Results No studies were found which were eligible for inclusion in this review. We evaluated and excluded 46 full-text articles. This is because none of the 46 studies had evaluated and compared the effectiveness of evidence-informed practice educational interventions with evidence-based practice educational interventions. Out of the 46 articles, 45 had evaluated solely, the effectiveness of evidence-based practice educational interventions and 1 article was on evidence-informed practice educational intervention. Hence, these articles were excluded as they did not meet the inclusion criteria. Authors' Conclusions There is an urgent need for primary studies evaluating the relative effectiveness of evidence-informed practice and evidence-based practice educational interventions targeted at improving undergraduate healthcare students' competencies regarding the application of evidence into practice. Such studies should be informed by current literature on the concepts (i.e., evidence-informed practice and evidence-based practice) to identify the differences, similarities, as well as appropriate content of the educational interventions. In this way, the actual effect of each of the concepts could be determined and their effectiveness compared.

Abstract
Objective
To compare (i) the evidence-based practice (EBP) profiles and (ii) socio-demographic characteristics of nurses in 4 selected low-middle income countries (LMICs).
Methods
A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 677 nurses from 4 hospitals in 4 countries (Afghanistan, Ghana, Iran, and Uganda).
Results
The findings revealed that there are significant differences between the 3 EBP subscales (that is, practice/use, attitude, and knowledge/skill) across the 4 countries (P < 0.05). No significant EBP differences were identified across age groups and gender in the subscales of practice, knowledge, and attitude. Practice and knowledge subscales were significantly associated with working schedules (that is, part-time and full-time) (P < 0.05). Analyses also revealed significant differences between attitude and knowledge subscales and working experience (P < 0.05).
Conclusions
Nurses in the 4 countries have moderate practice, attitude, and knowledge/skills of EBP. Nurses in LMICs require continuous professional development programs and support to enhance their practice and knowledge regarding EBP in clinical settings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Clinical nurse educator plays an indispensable role in promoting the development of nursing staff and nursing students in clinical settings. Too few core competencies for clinical nurse educators applicable to a given clinical setting are developed and validated by the research process. A better understanding of the core competencies for clinical nurse educators can inform the selection, training, and evaluation of clinical nurse educator. OBJECTIVE To establish the core competencies for clinical nurse educators in China. DESIGN Focus group interviews and the e-Delphi method were used. SETTINGS This study was conducted in five teaching hospitals in China. PARTICIPANTS Participants (n = 61), including nurse managers, clinical nurse educators, staff nurses, and nursing students were recruited for focus group interviews and 25 experts were selected for the e-Delphi study. METHODS Based on a literature review and the focus group interviews, a preliminary set of clinical nurse educator's core competencies was formed. Subsequently, experts provided supportive and modification advice on core competencies in the two rounds e-Delphi study. The consensus percentage and the weight of each first-level, second-level index and its connotations were calculated. RESULTS Two rounds of online Delphi expert consultation were completed by 25 experts, and the consensus was achieved on four first-level indices, 16 second-level specific competencies, and its 57 connotations. The first-level index included clinical teaching competency, clinical nursing skills, management and leadership competency, and innovation and research competency. Moreover, the consensus level of all indices was >75%, the coefficient of variation (CV) was less than 0.25 (p < 0.05) and the Kendall coefficient (W) was 0.169-0.503 (P < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS The explicit statements of expected competencies for clinical nurse educators can be applied to diverse clinical scenarios and provide a reference for selection, training, and evaluation of the clinical nurse educators.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an approach to health care that combines best available evidence, healthcare professionals' expertise, and patient preferences, yielding benefits for patients, healthcare professionals, and organizations. However, globally, EBP implementation remains inconsistent among nurses. Exploring this in an Irish context will establish a national baseline from which progress can be made on system-wide integration of EBP in nurse and midwife (i.e., clinician) practice, nursing/midwifery education, and the Irish healthcare system. AIM To establish clinician, educator, and student's EBP beliefs, knowledge, and implementation, and the organizational culture of the clinical and educational settings within the Republic of Ireland. METHODS Using a descriptive study design, a national survey with demographic questions, uniquely focused EBP scales, and an open-ended question were administered to clinicians, nursing/midwifery educators, and students. Ethical review was obtained. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the quantitative data. RESULTS Clinicians, educators, and students reported positive beliefs about EBP (M = 59.98, SD 8.68; M = 87.72, SD = 10.91; M = 55.18, SD = 10.29, respectively). Beliefs regarding their ability to implement EBP were lower overall. EBP implementation was low across all groups (clinicians: M = 12.85, SD = 14; educators: M = 31.09, SD = 16.54; students: M = 16.59, SD = 12.11). Clinicians, educators, and students reported varying perceptions of organizational support and readiness for EBP (M = 74.07, SD = 19.65; M = 86.43, SD = 15.01; M = 93.21, SD = 16.21, respectively). Across all measures, higher scores indicated higher beliefs, implementation, and organizational culture and readiness for EBP. LINKING EVIDENCE TO ACTION Clinicians have a unique opportunity to facilitate system-wide integration of EBP. Furthermore, given the variable EBP knowledge, beliefs, and implementation, opportunities to enhance these attributes abound, particularly when supported by their organizations. This study established a contemporary baseline in Ireland from which to engage the identified strengths, challenges, and opportunities required to craft an organizational culture and environment that supports and advances an EBP approach to nursing and midwifery practice and education.

Abstract
AIM The aim of this study was to examine the impact of academic context characteristics, especially bullying, on innovation in nursing education. BACKGROUND Rapid and extensive changes in health care have prompted recognition of a need for concomitant changes in nurse educators' teaching practices. Nurse educator successes in meeting the demands of change, however, are challenged by constraints characterizing their academic practice settings. METHOD Narrative analysis structured the study. RESULTS The findings suggested that nurse educators' shared stories directed pervasive and lasting beliefs that discouraged innovation, fostered uniformity of teaching practice, and urged acts of bullying. CONCLUSION Reflective teaching practice, open communication, and teaching innovation may be constrained by workplace storytelling and the bullying behaviors it engenders. Recognizing the impact of stories told in nursing education settings might contribute to strengthening the uptake of pedagogical research, supporting leadership for and innovation in nurse educators' evidence-based teaching practices.

Abstract
AIM The purpose of the study was to identify and describe the characteristic profiles of evidence-based practice competence of educators in the social, health and rehabilitation sectors and to establish relevant background factors. DESIGN This study was carried out as a descriptive cross-sectional study. METHODS Data were collected from social, health and rehabilitation sector educators working in the 21 Finnish universities of applied sciences and seven vocational colleges (n = 422; N = 2,330). A self-assessment instrument measuring evidence-based practice competence was used. Competence profiles were formed using a K-cluster grouping analysis. RESULTS Three distinct competence profiles were identified and delineated. Most educators feel that they can guide students' critical thinking and are able to seek and produce scientific knowledge. Evidence-based practice competence was explained by background factors such as year of graduation (for higher degree), level of education, job title, current employer and current field of work.

Abstract
Background Consensus on evidence‐based practice (EBP) competencies and associated learning outcomes for registered nurses has not yet been achieved in the European context. Aims To establish a set of core EBP competencies for nurses and the most important EBP learning outcomes encompassing attitudes, knowledge, and skills dimensions for implementation into nursing education in European countries. Methods A multi‐phase modified Delphi survey was conducted: Phase 1, a literature review; Phase 2, a two‐round consensus of experts; and Phase 3, a Delphi survey. Experts from six European countries participated. Results In Phase 1, 88 records were selected and 835 statements extracted, which were grouped according to the seven steps of EBP. After removing 157 duplicates, the remaining competencies (n = 678) were evaluated in Phase 2. Then, a two‐round expert consensus was reached, with 24 competencies and 120 learning outcomes identified and divided into affective, cognitive, and skills domains. In Phase 3, based on a Delphi survey expert consensus, all evaluated statements were included in a final set of competencies and learning outcomes. Only two learning outcomes were recommended for allocation to a different domain, and four were reformulated as suggested, with no further changes to the others. Linking Evidence to Action The set of EBP competencies and learning outcomes can guide nurse educators, managers, and EBP stakeholders in the development of content that incorporates EBP knowledge, skills, and attitudes into educational programs. Prioritizing the EBP competencies and learning outcomes that are most necessary and adapting them to every context will provide healthcare organizations with guidelines for enhancing the continuing education of nurses. These results could facilitate the development of effective tools for assessing nursing students’ and nurses’ perception of competencies required for EBP processes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Opportunities to embed and evaluate evidence-based practice (EBP) competency in the clinical setting across nursing curricula are not well described in the literature. AIMS This research aims to describe how clinical learning environments influence senior nursing students' integration of EBP competencies in their practice and perceptions of EBP competence development in a traditional baccalaureate nursing program. METHODS A sequential, mixed-methods design was used with senior students upon completion of their last two clinical experiences in the nursing program. Students completed the EBP Work Environment Scale (Pryse, McDaniel, & Schafer, 2014) and semi-structured interviews. FINDINGS Students appraised EBP Work Environments positively during preceptor-led experiences as opposed to instructor-led, group clinical experiences. Students described the evolution of emerging EBP competence throughout their nursing education and emphasized the importance of coursework in intentionally developing EBP competence. LINKING EVIDENCE TO ACTION Assessment of clinical experiences and models that contribute to EBP competence is needed. Participants in this study emphasized the importance of coursework that builds on EBP competencies, and the tremendous value of nurse preceptors that encouraged growth in their ability to engage with EBP in clinical practice.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Teaching evidence-based practice (EBP) in nursing education varies among nurse educators and universities. Lack of nurses' knowledge and skills are among the barriers commonly associated with the limited use of EBP in practice. OBJECTIVES To describe the presence, characteristics and content of courses of EBP in nursing bachelor's, master's, and PhD programs in six European countries. DESIGN A descriptive study design was employed. SETTINGS The study was implemented as part of the EBP e-Toolkit Project as a strategic partnership of six European higher education institutions from six countries in the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme. PARTICIPANTS Census sampling (N = 225) was used. A total of 162 (72%) faculties responded from the following countries: Spain (79), Italy (44), the Czech Republic (15), Poland (12), Greece (7), and Slovenia (5). METHODS Three structured instruments were developed by using the consensus development panel. The research was conducted from December 2018 to March 2019. For names of subjects, a manual narrative Template Analysis was used with open descriptive coding. RESULTS Subjects in "EBP in Nursing or Health Care" are included in 45 (29.2%) bachelor's programs, mostly worth 180 European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits, 30 (28%) master's, and 6 (40%) PhD programs. In bachelor's programs, an average of 134 h are spent teaching EBP steps, followed by 127 h in master's programs and 52 h in PhD programs. EBP subjects have different focuses: clear topics in EBP, development of research knowledge, awareness of the need for evidence-based clinical work, and understanding the needs of the profession. CONCLUSIONS Teaching EBP is not yet sufficiently integrated into nursing curricula. For more efficient integration, guidelines on the standardization of teaching approaches and content have to be developed in all three cycles of higher education. Further research is needed on the implementation of teaching at master's and PhD levels of nursing curricula.

Abstract
Aims To culturally adapt and translate the Evidence-Based Practice Belief Scale (EBP-B) and the Evidence-Based Practice Implementation Scale (EBP-I), explore the psychometric properties of their validated German versions and compare results with those of the original scales. Design Cross-sectional descriptive study. Method The study was conducted on a sample of 131 Registered Nurses in a Swiss German hospital. Internal consistency was rated using Cronbach's alpha. Principal component analysis using varimax rotation was used to determine construct validity. The study was undertaken in accordance with the STROBE-checklist in Appendix S1. Results German versions of the EBP-B and EBP-I showed good reliability. Their Cronbach alphas showed lower values than those of the original scales. Principal component analysis showed medium-to-high factor loading. Principal component analyses using varimax rotations of the EBP-B's 16 items and the EBP-I's 17 items resulted in four-factor and five-factor solutions, respectively.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence-based practice (EBP) is essential for improving outcomes for patients and is an expected competency of nurses. However, current practice finds varying levels of comfort and confidence among nurses regarding EBP implementation. METHOD A descriptive study using an online survey was conducted to assess the perceptions of nurses at a rural midwestern Magnet® hospital on their comfort and confidence regarding EBP and compare the results to the nurses' level of education and years of experience. RESULTS Although nurses agreed that EBP is important for patient care, nurses with a baccalaureate degree or higher reported increased comfort and confidence with EBP implementation. However, nurses with more years of experience, regardless of education level, reported increased comfort and confidence with EBP, although that finding did not reach significance levels. CONCLUSION Creating a culture of EBP is the responsibility of every organization. Administrators and educators must continue to assess the comfort and confidence levels of nurses who work directly at the bedside and provide continuing education and hands-on opportunities to increase nurses' comfort and confidence with implementing EBP. Abstract
This article describes an academic-practice partnership between an American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet®-designated hospital and an academic nurse educator that has increased the hospital's capacity for research, evidence-based practice, and support for nurses continuing their education. Through close collaboration with the full-time nurse researcher and members of the nursing education department, the professor in residence consults with clinical staff to support completion of research and evidence-based practice projects. The collaboration also has resulted in the development of a formal year-long mentoring program for clinical nurses in the area of evidence-based practice. Individual support and academic consults are offered to nurses enrolled in school to promote advancement of nurses' educational level. This collaboration has been beneficial for both the hospital and the university, increasing the capacity for scholarly activities for nurses in the hospital and serving as a forum for ongoing faculty practice and scholarship. Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an essential skill and ethical obligation for all practicing health professions clinicians because of its strong association with improved health outcomes. Emerging evidence suggests that faculty who prepare these clinicians lack proficiency to teach EBP. OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to describe; 1) health profession faculty beliefs about and confidence in their ability to teach and implement EBP, 2) use of EBP for education, 3) organizational culture and readiness for EBP; and to determine whether relationships exist among these variables. DESIGN This study used a cross-sectional, descriptive survey design. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS College of Nursing (CON) and College of Health Professions (CHP) faculty from a university located in the Northeast, United States. Faculty were defined as anyone teaching a course for the CON or CHP during the fall of 2016. METHODS Faculty were invited to complete an electronic survey measuring EBP beliefs, EBP use, and EBP organizational culture and readiness. The survey was comprised of three tools developed specifically for health professions educators in 2010 by Fineout-Overholt & Melnyk. RESULTS Sixty-nine faculty returned usable surveys (25.5% response rate). Mean EBP beliefs score was 89.49 (SD = 10.94) indicating respondents had a firm belief in and confidence in their ability to implement and teach EBP. Mean EBP use was 32.02 (SD = 20.59) indicating that respondents taught and implemented EBP between 1 and 3 times in the last 8-weeks. Mean EBP culture and readiness score was 90.20 (SD = 15.23) indicating essential movement toward a sustainable culture of college-wide integration of EBP. Mean scores for beliefs/confidence were higher for full-time clinical faculty compared to other groups [F(2, 55) = 0.075, p = 0.928; ηp2 = 0.003)]. Adjunct faculty reported higher EBP behaviors expected by health profession educators in the last 8-weeks compared to other groups [F(2, 55) = 0.251, p = 0.779; ηp2. =0.009)]. Adjunct faculty had the highest mean scores on OCRSIEP-E followed by full-time clinical faculty. These group differences in OCRSIEP-E were statistically significant [F(2, 49) = 7.92, p = 0.001; ηp2 = 0.244)]. OCRSIEP-E was significantly different between full-time tenure/tenure track faculty (M = 78.0, SD = 12.58) and full-time clinical faculty (M = 91.37, SD = 14.79, p = 0.027) and between full-time tenure/tenure track faculty and adjunct faculty (M = 97.19, SD = 12.39, p = 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Faculty adoption of EBP as a foundational pillar of teaching is essential. Research is needed to define the scope of the problem internationally. Organizations need to set standards for faculty teaching in the health professions to be EBP proficient. Programs preparing faculty to teach in nursing and other health professions must include educator EBP competencies.
