Abstract
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate visual quality after high-frequency transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy (t-PRK) by assessing the relationship between the operational parameters and the first-year postoperative corneal higher-order aberrations (HOAs). Methods: This was a retrospective study of low-to-moderate myopic eyes treated with t-PRK. The files of 46 low-to-moderate myopic patients (90 eyes; myopia up to −5D) were included in the study. Eyes having a cylindrical refractive error more than 2D and the patients not having completed a 1-year follow-up were excluded from the study. Factors including age, preoperative mean spherical equivalent (MSE), mean keratometry (Km), central corneal thickness (CCT), scotopic pupil, optical zone (OZ), transition zone (TZ), ablation zone (AZ), central ablation depth (CAD), and static cyclotorsion correction (SCC) were analyzed for association with the first-year postoperative corneal HOAs. Results: Corneal HOAs were found to be increased postoperatively with a 6-mm pupil (P < 0.05). The increased spherical aberration had a positive correlation with patient age, preoperative MSE, Km, TZ, and CAD, whereas it had a negative relationship with OZ and AZ (P < 0.05). The corneal coma had a significantly positive correlation with preoperative MSE and a significantly negative relationship with OZ (P < .05). Conclusion: Postoperatively induced corneal HOAs may affect patients' scotopic vision (night time driving, cinema) when the pupils get larger. The relationship between patient age, preoperative MSE, Km, CAD, TZ, OZ, AZ, and postoperative corneal HOAs underlines the need to consider the effects of these parameters on the final vision quality.

Abstract
Purpose. To investigate the age-related change of axial length (AL), spherical equivalent (SE), and prevalence of myopia and high myopia in children at 7–18-year-olds in Shanghai in 2014 and 2018, respectively. Methods. This was an observational study in Shanghai. The same 3 schools were selected in 2014 and 2018, respectively. AL, SE, prevalence of myopia and high myopia, height, and weight were measured. A questionnaire regarding the lifestyles was completed. Results. Mean age was smaller in 2018 than in 2014 (

Abstract
Background To compare the visual and refractive outcomes after myopic LASEK using three different excimer lasers and standardized surgical and mitomycin C (MMC) application protocols. Methods In this retrospective, observational cohort study, we examined 122 eyes treated with Allegretto, 135 eyes treated with Esiris and 137 eyes treated with Technolas excimer lasers. All eyes were treated under the same surgical protocol, and a standardized MMC dosage was used. The three groups were refraction-matched, and both visual and refractive outcomes were evaluated at 1 and 7 days and 1 and 3 months after surgery. Results At 3 months postsurgery, Allegretto provided significantly better outcomes than Esiris and Technolas in terms of postoperative uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) (1.11 ± 0.2 vs 1.01 ± 0.2 vs 0.98 ± 0.2) (P = 0.0001), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) (1.13 ± 0.2 vs 1.10 ± 0.1 vs 1.04 ± 0.2) (P = 0.0001), residual sphere (− 0.01 ± 0.2 vs + 0.29 ± 0.7 vs + 0.27 ± 0.6) (P = 0.0001), and efficacy index (0.99 ± 0.2 vs 0.90 ± 0.2 vs 0.91 ± 0.2) (P = 0.0004). Conclusions We found slightly better visual and refractive outcomes in the Allegretto group at 3 months post-op after LASEK with MMC to correct myopia.

Abstract
PURPOSE To compare the objective and subjective quality of vision after femtosecond laser-assisted small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and laser-assisted subepithelial keratomileusis (LASEK) for mild to moderate myopia. METHODS This prospective, comparative study included 65 eyes of 33 patients in the SMILE group, with a mean spherical equivalent (SE) of -4.16 ± 0.82 diopters, and 50 eyes of 25 patients in the LASEK group, with a mean SE of -3.81 ± 0.97 diopters. Visual acuity, corneal topography, contrast sensitivity, and wavefront aberrations were recorded preoperatively and compared with postoperative measurements. A quality of vision questionnaire was scored and analyzed 3 months postoperatively. RESULTS Three months postoperatively, the SMILE group had fewer (P < .05) higher-order aberrations (HOAs) (0.390 ± 0.175 µm), including spherical aberration (SA) (0.262 ± 0.242 µm), than the LASEK group (HOAs = 0.479 ± 0.148 µm, SA = 0.576 ± 0.287 µm, trefoil = 0.465 ± 0.248 µm). There was no significant difference in the amount of coma and trefoil between the two groups after surgery. Analysis of the scores of glare and halos in the quality of vision questionnaire revealed that SMILE (night glare = 1.25 ± 1.22, halos = 0.97 ± 1.12) provided a better quality of vision (P < .05) than LASEK (night glare = 2.32 ± 1.99, halos = 1.96 ± 1.77). The two groups demonstrated no significant difference in contrast sensitivity 3 months postoperatively. No vision-threatening complications were noted at any stage in either group. CONCLUSIONS Both SMILE and LASEK are safe and effective surgical procedures in the correction of myopia. SMILE has a lower induction rate of HOAs and a higher degree of patient satisfaction than LASEK at 3 months postoperatively.

Abstract
PURPOSE To compare the refractive and visual outcomes of variable spot scanning ablation versus the wavefront-optimized ablation for myopia and myopic astigmatism. METHODS Fifty patients with myopia who underwent LASIK (100 eyes) were divided into two equal groups. Myopic correction performed using the variable spot scanning (VSS) ablation with the VISX STAR S4/IR platform (Abbott Medical Optics, Inc., Santa Ana, CA) (VSS group) and wavefront-optimized (WFO) ablation profile with the WaveLight Allegretto Wave Eye-Q platform (Alcon Laboratories, Inc., Fort Worth, TX) (WFO group). Manifest refraction, uncorrected distance visual acuity, and corrected distance visual acuity were obtained preoperatively and 1 day and 1 and 3 months postoperatively. Wavefront measurement and contrast sensitivity testing were done preoperatively and 3 months postoperatively. RESULTS Postoperative mean refractive spherical equivalent was -0.14 ± 0.2 diopters for the VSS group and -0.15 ± 0.28 diopters for the WFO group. Forty-eight eyes of the VSS group and 47 eyes of the WFO group were within ±0.5 diopters. Postoperative mean corrected distance visual acuity was 1.05 ± 0.13 for the VSS group and 1.06 ± 0.12 for the WFO group. The postoperative uncorrected distance visual acuity was 1.01 ± 0.16 for the VSS group and 1.01 ± 0.11 for the WFO group. The safety index was 1.12 for the VSS group and 1.06 for the WFO group, whereas the efficacy index was 1.07 for the VSS group and 1.01 for the WFO group. The mean induced positive spherical aberration was 0.041 ± 0.046 µm for the VSS group and 0.195 ± 0.171 µm for the WFO group (P < .001). Mesopic contrast sensitivity testing showed no statistically significant differences between groups at all tested spatial frequencies. CONCLUSIONS Both VSS and WFO treatments showed similar refractive and visual outcomes. Both induced significant positive spherical aberration, significantly more with WFO.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the changes of anterior segment parameters following the topical instillation of cyclopentolate hydrochloride 1% with the Galilei dual-Scheimpflug analyzer (GSA) (Ziemer Ophthalmology Co., Port, Switzerland) in healthy children. METHODS Fifty children (29 boys, 21 girls) were evaluated before and 60 minutes after instillation of three drops of 1% cyclopentolate hydrochloride using the GSA. The measurements before and after cycloplegia, including anterior chamber depth (ACD), anterior chamber angle (ACA), anterior chamber volume (ACV), central corneal thickness (CCT), and pupil size, were evaluated using the paired t test. RESULTS The mean age of the patients was 10.27 ± 3.32 years (range: 5 to 15 years). Measurements between the two sessions were significantly different for all parameters (P < .05), except for CCT (P > .05). CONCLUSIONS The GSA demonstrated a statistically significant increase in ACD, ACV, ACA, and pupil size following the topical application of cyclopentolate hydrochloride 1%. These results should be considered during biometric measurement and refractive surgery planning.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate postoperative pain, uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), and cornea haze value after transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy (T-PRK) performed with aspherical ablation profile using SCHWIND ESIRIS excimer laser. METHODS Retrospective case series. Fifty-nice eyes (32 patients) with myopia associated with or without astigmatism underwent phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK) followed by photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) which performed by Optimized Refractive Keratecomy (ORK)-CAM software based on aspherical ablation profile using SCHWIND ESIRIS excimer laser. Postoperative pain scale was measured on a questionnaire through five levels. Haze was graded by five grades, and UCVA, manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE) were analyzed. RESULTS Mean pain level was (1.37±0.613) (range: 1 to 3), the mean time picking out the soft contact lens was (6.22±1.73) days, at 3 months, UCVA was 1.0 for 40 eyes (67.8%), 0.5 for all eyes (100.0%). The UCVA was significantly less than the preoperative best spectacle corrected visual acuity (BSCVA) (t=-2.84, P=0.006), haze value was (0.27±0.25), no patients had a haze grade up to 2. Mean MRSE was (0.76±0.96) diopter(D) by 3 months. CONCLUSION The outcomes from this study show that using the SCHWIND ESIRIS aspherical ablation profile for transepithelial PRK has a good visual result. The primary advantage is related to a spherical ablation profile, automatically considers the ablation volume of the stroma and the accurate and smooth removal of the epithelium with PTK. Additional studies are needed to determine long-term outcomes.
