Abstract
Photoelectrochemical oxidation (PECO) is a promising advanced technology for treating micropollutants in stormwater. However, it is important to understand its operation prior to practical validation. In this study, we introduced a flow PECO system designed to evaluate its potential for full-scale applications in herbicides degradation, providing valuable insights for future large-scale implementations. The PECO flow reactor demonstrated the ability to treat a larger volume of stormwater (675 mL, approximately 10 times more than previous batch experiments) with effective removal rates of 92 % for diuron and 22 % for atrazine over 6 h of operation at 2 V. To address the large volume issue in stormwater treatment, a multiple module parallel application design is being considered to increase the treatment capacity of the PECO flow reactor. During the flow reactor operations, flow rate was found to have a notable impact on removal performance, particularly for diuron. At a flow rate of 610 mL min-1, approximately 90 % removal of diuron was achieved, while at 29 mL min-1, the removal efficiency decreased to 60 %. While light intensity had minimal effect on diuron degradation (all settings achieved over 90 % removal), it enhanced atrazine degradation from 9 % to 31 % with an increase in intensity from 63 mW cm-2 to 144 mW cm-2. Remarkably, the PECO flow system exhibited excellent removal performance (>90 % removal) for diuron even at extremely high initial pollutant concentrations (240 μg L-1), demonstrating its capacity to handle varying contaminant loads in stormwater. Energy consumption analysis revealed that flow rate as the primary factor influenced the specific energy consumption rate. Higher flow rate (e.g., 610 mL min-1) were preferable in flow reactor due to its well-balanced performance between removal and energy consumption. These findings confirm that the PECO flow system offers an efficient and promising approach for stormwater treatment applications.

Abstract
Sulfide-based ternary chalcogenides have been recognized widely as exceptional photocatalysts, thanks to their narrow band gap enabling them to harvest solar energy to the maximum extent. They provide excellent optical, electrical, and catalytic performance and are of abundant use as a heterogeneous catalyst. Among sulfide-based ternary chalcogenides, compounds exhibiting AB2X4 structure form a new class of materials with excellent stability in photocatalytic performance. In the AB2X4 family of compounds, ZnIn2S4 is one of the top performing photocatalyst for energy and environmental applications. However, to date, only limited information is available on the mechanism behind the photo-induced migration of charge carriers in ternary sulfide chalcogenides. Ternary sulfide chalcogenides with their visible region activity and substantial chemical stability greatly depend on crystal structure, morphology, and optical characteristics for their photocatalytic activity. Hence, in this review, a comprehensive assessment of the reported strategies for enhancement of the photocatalytic efficiency of this compound is presented. In addition, a meticulous investigation of the applicability of ternary sulfide chalcogenide compound ZnIn2S4, in particular, has been delivered. Also, the photocatalytic behavior of other sulfide-based ternary chalcogenides for water remediation applications has also been briefed. Finally, we conclude with an insight into the challenges and future advancements in the exploration of ZnIn2S4-based chalcogenide as a photocatalyst for various photo-responsive applications. It is believed that this review could contribute to a better understanding of ternary chalcogenide semiconductor photocatalysts for solar-driven water treatment applications.

Abstract
A cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeO2-NPs)/graphene oxide (GO)/polyacrylamide (PAM) ternary composite was synthesized through free-radical polymerization of acrylamide in the presence of CeO2 nanoparticles and GO in an aqueous system. The synthesized composite material was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy techniques and applied for the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye from an aqueous solution. Tauc's model for direct transition was used to model for the optical band gap. The key operating parameters such as the amounts of CeO2-NPs and GO, pH, initial MB concentration, type of light irradiation, and contact time have been optimized to achieve the highest MB degradation percentage. The photocatalysis process was pH-dependent, and the optimum pH value was found to be 12.0. Under UV-A light, 90% dye degradation occurred in 90 min. The degradation of MB was also specified in terms of total organic carbon (TOC) and chemical oxygen demand (COD). Free-radical capture experiments were also performed to determine the role of radical species during the photocatalytic oxidation process. The photocatalytic process showed that the equilibrium data is in good agreement with the Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetic model. A rate constant of 0.0259 min-1 was obtained. The hydrogel was also tested to assess its reusability, which is an important key factor in practical wastewater treatment. The photocatalytic activity only decreased to 75% after nine uses.

Abstract
TiO2 exists naturally in three crystalline forms: Anatase, rutile, brookite, and TiO2 (B). These polymorphs exhibit different properties and consequently different photocatalytic performances. This paper aims to clarify the differences between titanium dioxide polymorphs, and the differences in homophase, biphase, and triphase properties in various photocatalytic applications. However, homophase TiO2 has various disadvantages such as high recombination rates and low adsorption capacity. Meanwhile, TiO2 heterophase can effectively stimulate electron transfer from one phase to another causing superior photocatalytic performance. Various studies have reported the biphase of polymorph TiO2 such as anatase/rutile, anatase/brookite, rutile/brookite, and anatase/TiO2 (B). In addition, this paper also presents the triphase of the TiO2 polymorph. This review is mainly focused on information regarding the heterophase of the TiO2 polymorph, fabrication of heterophase synthesis, and its application as a photocatalyst.

Abstract
A novel B-doped ZnO/TiO2 (B–ZnO/TiO2) nanocomposite photocatalyst was prepared using a mechanochemical–calcination method. For the characterization of the synthesized B–ZnO/TiO2 photocatalyst, XRD, FESEM-EDS, FTIR, UV-Vis DRS, BET, PL, and XPS techniques were used. The bandgap energy of B–ZnO/TiO2 was reduced, resulting in enhanced visible-light absorption. Significant PL quenching confirmed the reduction in the electron–hole recombination rate. Furthermore, reduced crystallite size and a larger surface area were obtained. Hence, the B–ZnO/TiO2 photocatalyst exhibited better photocatalytic activity than commercial TiO2, ZnO, B–ZnO, and ZnO/TiO2 in the removal of methylene blue (MB) dye under natural sunlight irradiation. The effects of various parameters, such as initial concentration, photocatalyst amount, solution pH, and irradiation time, were studied. Under optimal conditions (MB concentration of 15 mg/L, pH 11, B–ZnO/TiO2 amount of 30 mg, and 15 min of operation), a maximum MB removal efficiency of ~95% was obtained. A plausible photocatalytic degradation mechanism of MB with B–ZnO/TiO2 was estimated from the scavenger test, and it was observed that the •O2− and •OH radicals were potential active species for the MB degradation. Cyclic experiments indicated the high stability and reusability of B–ZnO/TiO2, which confirmed that it can be an economical and environmentally friendly photocatalyst.

Abstract
In the present paper, Bi1−xBaxFeO3 (BBFO) thin films (where x = 0, 0.02 and 0.05) were prepared by a combined sol-gel and spin-coating method. The influence of Ba substitutions on the structural, microstructural, optical properties, and photocatalytic activity of BiFeO3 thin films has been studied. X-ray diffraction pattern correlated with FTIR analysis results confirms that all the films have a perovskite structure of rhombohedral symmetry with an R3m space group. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to investigate the surface morphology and reveals microstructural modifications with the increase in Ba concentration. The optical properties show that the band gap is narrowed after doping with Ba ions and decreases gradually with the increase of doping content. The photocatalytic investigations of deposited films revealed that Ba doping of BFO material leads to the enhancement of photocatalytic response. The present data demonstrates that Bi1−xBaxFeO3 (BBFO) thin films can be used in photocatalytic applications.

Abstract
The present study reports the design of heterogeneous photocatalytic system using Fe2O3 with chitosan (CS) as a matrix for the sonophotocatalytic degradation of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP). CS was chosen as a polymer matrix as it is abundant in nature, eco-friendly, and can be easily processed into microparticles, nanofibers, as well as nanoparticles and shows the tendency of adhesion towards a vast range of solid substrates besides serving as a chelating agent toward metallic oxides. The nanohybrids were characterized via Fourier transformation infrared spectrum (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy coupled with electron dispersive spectrum (SEM-EDS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and UV-visible diffuse reflectance (UV-Vis-DRS) analyses. Infrared spectroscopy (IR) studies confirmed synergistic interaction between Fe2O3 and CS. The XRD measurements confirmed the crystalline morphology while SEM revealed formation of rod-like structures. The TGA studies confirmed higher thermal stability of CS/Fe2O3 as compared to pure CS. The optical band gap for CS and CS/Fe2O3 was calculated to be 3 eV and 2.25 eV, respectively, from diffuse reflectance spectral (DRS) studies. Rapid photocatalytic degradation of 2,4,6-TCP was observed under UV light irradiation in presence of CS and CS/Fe2O3 nanohybrids which revealed 83.19% and 95.20% degradation within a short span of 60 min. The degraded fragments were identified using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). The present study on the development of ecofriendly nanohybrid photocatalyst is expected to provide experimental basis for the future development of CS-based photocatalysts which can be easily processed into membranes/filters for the industrial scale degradation of toxic organic pollutants.

UV SPECTROSCOPY AND KINETIC RESEARCH OF PHOTODEGRADATION OF METHYL ORANGE IN THE PRESENCE OF TITANIUM DIOXIDE AND β-CYCLODEXTRIN OR ITS DERIVATIVES. Polym J 2021. Abstract
The research is devoted to the study of the effect of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and its derivatives on the photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange in aqueous solutions in the presence of titanium dioxide. It has been shown that the kinetics of photodegradation of methyl orange is more accurately described by the pseudo first order equation for all investigated pH values. In the presence of cyclodextrins β-CD and 2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin, acceleration of photodegradation was observed only after 30 min of irradiation. As a result, the oxidation of hydroxyl groups of cyclodextrin occurred. A significant slowdown in photodestruction in the TiO2-β-CD sample during the first 45 min is explained by the formation of inclusion complexes of cyclodextrin with methyl orange, which prevented the destruction of dye. The use of the β-cyclodextrin, its derivatives and increasing the acidity of the medium accelerates the processes of photodestruction of methyl orange in distilled and natural waters. Methyl orange was decolorized for 20 – 25 min in solutions of all investigated cyclodextrin derivatives at pH 2.5. The destruction of methyl orange was most effective with the use of sulfobutyl ether β-CD. The bactericidal lamp (λ = 254 nm) allows to increase the rate of destruction during the irradiation process. Methyl orange discolored much faster under the action of a bactericidal lamp than using only ultraviolet lamps with λ = 365 nm. A slight slowdown in the decomposition process is observed after several irradiation cycles. This may be due to the influence of the formed products of destruction. However, under such conditions, the by-products of reactions decompose much faster. The use of cyclodextrins is possible without significant loss of efficiency up to 8 cycles.

Abstract
As a powerful technique by combining photocatalysis with electrochemistry, photoelectrocatalysis has been extensively explored to simultaneously remove mixed pollutants of organic and heavy metal in wastewater in the past decade. In the photoelectrocatalytic system, the bias potential can remarkably promote the oxidation of organic pollutants on the photoanode by suppressing the recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs and extending the lifetime of photogenerated holes. Meanwhile, some photogenerated electrons are driven by the bias potential to the cathode to reduce heavy metals. In this review, we summarize the research advances in photoelectrocatalytic treatment of organic-heavy metal mixed pollution systems under UV light, visible light and sunlight. We demonstrate the main operation variables affecting the photoelectrocatalytic removal processes of organic pollutants and heavy metals. The problems for utilization of solar energy in photoelectrocatalysis are discussed. Finally, this review proposes the perspectives for future development of photoelectrocatalysis to industrial applications.

Abstract
Willow species (Salix L.) are a useful tool for assessing phytostabilization of the sites polluted by heavy metals. Phytostabilization potential of two willow genotypes (Salix alba L. clone '68/53/1' and Salix nigra Marshall clone '0408') has been evaluated in a 45-day hydroponic experiment, using stem cuttings (diameter 12 to 14 mm, length 20 cm) exposed to two concentrations (10-4 M and 10-5 M) of individually applied Cd, Ni, and Pb. Metals were diluted in 25% Hoagland's solution, in forms of CdCl2·H2O, NiSO4·6H2O, and Pb-EDTA. The control group of cuttings was grown in 25% Hoagland's solution without heavy metals. High Cd concentrations in willow roots, 8637 mg/kg (clone '68/53/1') and 6728 mg/kg of dry weight (clone '0408'), have indicated a high phytostabilization potential. However, detailed analyses of cross-sectional area of the root cortex and the central cylinder revealed that the excess concentration of Cd led to a significant reduction of measured anatomical root's traits of clone '68/53/1' in comparison with the control samples. Excessive concentration of Ni and Pb in nutrient solution increased the values of quantitatively measured root's traits of clone '0408', implying stimulatory effects of the applied concentrations. Concentration of 10-4 M of each metal had more negative effects on the roots' anatomical traits, notably on parenchymal and exodermal cells and vessels. Deposits of metals were observed in root tissues. Clone '0408' demonstrated an increased tolerance to heavy metals, which could potentially make this clone useful in phytostabilization.

Abstract
Water is an essential part of life and its availability is important for all living creatures. On the other side, the world is suffering from a major problem of drinking water. There are several gases, microorganisms and other toxins (chemicals and heavy metals) added into water during rain, flowing water, etc. which is responsible for water pollution. This review article describes various applications of nanomaterial in removing different types of impurities from polluted water. There are various kinds of nanomaterials, which carried huge potential to treat polluted water (containing metal toxin substance, different organic and inorganic impurities) very effectively due to their unique properties like greater surface area, able to work at low concentration, etc. The nanostructured catalytic membranes, nanosorbents and nanophotocatalyst based approaches to remove pollutants from wastewater are eco-friendly and efficient, but they require more energy, more investment in order to purify the wastewater. There are many challenges and issues of wastewater treatment. Some precautions are also required to keep away from ecological and health issues. New modern equipment for wastewater treatment should be flexible, low cost and efficient for the commercialization purpose.

Abstract
Photocatalysis directed at the removal of persistent organic pollutants, including pharmaceuticals, has been the subject of intense recent research. Bismuth oxychloride (BiOCl) has emerged as a potential alternative to traditional photocatalysts and has shown competitive removal efficiencies. However, pathways responsible for BiOCl photodegradation have not been well characterized. The present work is the first to determine, using LC-MS/MS analysis, the pathways by which BiOCl removes ibuprofen (IBP) from water. HPLC-DAD and LC-MS/MS analyses show that BiOCl converts IBP to two primary photochemical products, 4-isobutylacetophenone (IBAP) and 1-(4-isobutylphenyl)ethanol (IBPE). The reactivity for BiOCl is attributed to interactions of the carboxylic acid group of IBP with holes in the valence band. Hydroxylated-IBP was not detected in BiOCl photocatalytic degradation experiments which would be expected in a process driven by the formation and reactivity of reactive oxygen species. These data were used to formulate a photocatalytic degradation pathway for IBP and highlight the importance of studying both primary and secondary degradation reactions for photocatalytic studies.

A Facile Synthesis of Visible-Light Driven Rod-on-Rod like α-FeOOH/α-AgVO3 Nanocomposite as Greatly Enhanced Photocatalyst for Degradation of Rhodamine B. Catalysts 2018. Abstract
In this work, we have synthesized the rod-on-rod–like α-FeOOH/α-AgVO3 nanocomposite photocatalysts with the different amounts of solvothermally synthesized α-FeOOH nanorods via a simple co-precipitation method. The as-synthesized photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, UV−Visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), element mapping, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis. The observed SEM images show that both α-AgVO3 and α-FeOOH exhibits the rod-shaped morphology with nano size. Furthermore, the photocatalytic activities of the obtained photocatalysts were evaluated towards the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) under visible-light irradiation. It is demonstrated that the 3 mg α-FeOOH added to the α-FeOOH/α-AgVO3 nanocomposite exhibited an enhanced photocatalytic performance as compared with the pure α-AgVO3 and α-FeOOH. This significant improvement can be attributed to the increased photo-excited electron-hole pair separation efficiency, large portion of visible-light absorption ability and the reduced recombination of the electron-hole pair. The recycling test revealed that the optimized nanocomposite exhibited good photostability and reusability properties. In addition, the believable photodegradation mechanism of RhB using α-FeOOH/α-AgVO3 nanocomposite is proposed. Hence, the developed α-FeOOH/α-AgVO3 nanocomposite is a promising material for the degradation of organic pollutants in an aqueous environment.

Abstract
Highly monodisperse amorphous manganese oxide (MnOx) nanospheres with diameter of ca. 300nm have been obtained from ammonia aqueous solution of KMnO4 at room temperature. The amorphous MnOx nanospheres successfully converted to monodisperse K-OMS-2 (cryptomelane) and K-OMS-2/Mn2O3 nanoraspberries through calcination process at 600 and 800°C, respectively. Analyzing the structure of such amorphous MnOx has been a challenge because fewer reports are available to examine amorphous structure. Thus, shape, crystallinity, and structure of the amorphous and crystalline MnOx nanostructures were characterized in detail by X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetry/differential thermal analysis (TG/DTA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution TEM (HRTEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). We discussed a plausible formation mechanism of amorphous MnOx nanospheres based on the investigations. The obtained MnOx nanostructures have been demonstrated to possess oxidative degradation ability of Rhodamine B (RhB) under acidic aqueous condition without any additives such as chemical oxidizing agents and UV and/or visible light irradiation. RhB degradation rate of amorphous MnOx nanospheres was about one hundred times faster than that of K-OMS-2 nanoraspberries.
