Padua Days on Muscle and Mobility Medicine, March 25-29, 2025, Hotel Petrarca, Euganean Thermae, Italy: Program and Abstracts

Medium-sized scientific conferences held in hotels large enough to accommodate all participants increase opportunities for constructive discussion during breaks, and for evenings that bring together young and senior experts of basic sciences and clinical specialties. Time for group discussions offer opportunities for new collaborations and for jobs for young researchers. Since 1991 the Padova Muscle Days have offered collaborative opportunities that have matured into innovative multidisciplinary results to the point that it came naturally for us to underline it with a neologism now included in the title of the 2025 event: "Mobility Medicine". It is a discipline which developed naturally when we brought together fragmented areas of knowledge into one meeting. The Padua Days on Muscle and Mobility Medicine 2025 (2025Pdm3) will be hosted at the Hotel Petrarca, Euganean Thermae (Padua, Italy) from 25 to 29 March 2025. The list of unique sessions within the included program and the following Collection of Abstracts testify that it is possible to organize valid countermeasures to the inevitable tendencies towards hyper-specialization that the explosive increase in scientific progress brings. The European Journal of Translational Myology and Mobility Medicine (Ejtm3) will accept typescripts on results presented at the 2025Pdm3. Furthermore, an additional option for publication of full original Articles or Reviews is the Special "New Trends in Musculoskeletal Imaging" of the MDPI Journal Diagnostics, because diagnosis is essential to manage and follow-up neuro- metabolic- muscular- disorder and the decay of performances in aging. We hope that many will share our dreams and we make them come true at the 2025 Pdm3 Conference.

Mobility Medicine: A call to unify hyper-fragmented specialties by abstracts sent to 2025Pdm3, and typescripts to Ejtm3, and Diagnostics

Mega scientific conferences increasingly suffer from the need for short and poster presentations without discussion. An alternative is to organize workshops in hotels large enough to accommodate all participants. This significantly increases the opportunities for constructive discussion during breakfasts, lunches, dinners and long evenings that can bring together experts of scientific and clinical sub-specialties and young fellows. Time for groups' discussions and new collaborations are increased so as the job opportunities for the young researchers. The Padova Muscle Days have offered in the previous thirty-five years these opportunities, which have matured into innovative and multidisciplinary results to the point that it came naturally to underline it with a neologism now included in the title of the 2025 event: "Mobility Medicine", a discipline not yet officially recognised, that makes explicit the call for rejoining knowledges dispersed in sub-specialisations. The included program of the Padua Days on Muscle and Mobility Medicine 2025 (2025Pdm3) will be hosted at the Hotel Petrarca in Euganean Thermae (Padua, Italy) from 25 to 29 March 2025. It further testifies by listing unique Sessions that it is possible to organize valid countermeasures to the inevitable tendencies towards hyperspecialization that the explosive increase in scientific progress brings with it. Furthermore, the European Journal of Translational Myology and Mobility Medicine (Ejtm3) will accept typescripts on results presented at the 2025Pdm3, together with the Special Section: New Trends in Musculoskeletal Imaging of the MDPI (Basel) Journal Diagnostics, because diagnosis is essential to prevent, manage and follow-up not only neuro-metabolic-muscular disorders, but the unavoidable physiologicical decay of performances in early and late aging. Invitations to join a new 2024 section of Ejtm and the 2025 Pdm3 from 25 to 29 March, Euganean Thermae, Padua, Italy

This issue of the European Journal of Translational Myology (Ejtm) 34 (3) 2024 opens with a historic article by Roger Sabbadini, who recalls his years spent as a guest scientist at the Institute of General Pathology of the University of Padua, Italy and the many years spent valorising a fortuitous observation made in collaboration with the scientific group of Professor Giovanni Salviati, University of Padua, Italy. A further side effect of those years is the decision I recently made to add a new Section to the Ejtm Editorial board, namely: Myokines, Bioactive lipids, Adipokines, RNAkines (ncRNAs), Antonio Musarò, Roger Sabbadini, and Daniela Tavian, Editors. Readers are therefore warmly invited to contribute typescripts to this section. I am confident that young readers will be motivated to test preliminary in vitro and in vivo options for drug development, especially for the bioactive lipids. Furthermore, it is time to send your presentation proposals and registration/accommodation forms to participate in the International Meeting: Padua Days on Muscle and Mobility Medicine, which will be held at the Hotel Petrarca of the Euganean Thermae (Padua, Italy) from 25 to 29 March 2025 (2025Pdm3). The Preliminary Program is included, hoping that you will submit your abstract and the Registration forms by November 15, 2024.

Making a difference

This is a personal account of one academic scientist who founded two biotechnology companies. Both companies were initially incubated within the walls of the university under a creative student incubator program whereby biology students could pursue their graduate academic degrees while gaining valuable biotechnology experiences. After the companies transitioned out of the university environment, the professor and his students pursued diagnostic and therapeutic drug development resulting in the completion of several clinical trials. The value of international scientific collaborations with colleagues at the University of Padova (Italy) is also described.

State of art of mobility medicine: some more abstracts and evidence that the success of Pdm3 is based on extra-session relationships

Scientific conferences increasingly suffer from the need for short presentations in which speakers like to dwell on the details of their work. A mitigating factor is to encourage discussion and planning of collaborations by organizing small meetings in a hotel large enough to host all attendees. This extends discussions' opportunities during morning breakfasts, lunches, dinners and long evenings together. Even if the vast majority of participants will not stay for the entire duration of the Conference, the possibilities for specialists to interact with specialists who are even very distant in terms of knowledge increase enormously. In any case, the results in terms of new job opportunities for young participants outweigh the costs for the organizers. Thirty years of Padova Muscle Days offer many examples, but the authors of this report on the state of the art of Mobility Medicine testify that this also happened in the 2024 Five Days of Muscle and Mobility Medicine (2024Pdm3) hosted at the Hotel Petrarca, Thermae of Euganea Hills and Padua, Italy which is in fact a valid countermeasure to the inevitable tendencies towards hyperspecialization that the explosive increase in scientific progress brings with it.

Program with last minute abstracts of the Padua Days on Muscle and Mobility Medicine, 27 February - 2 March, 2024 (2024Pdm3)

During the 2023 Padua Days on Muscle and Mobility Medicine the 2024 meeting was scheduled from 28 February to 2 March 2024 (2024Pdm3). During autumn 2023 the program was expanded with Scientific Sessions which will take place over five days (in 2024 this includes February 29), starting from the afternoon of 27 February 2024 in the Conference Rooms of the Hotel Petrarca, Thermae of Euganean Hills (Padua), Italy. As per consolidated tradition, the second day will take place in Padua, for the occasion in the Sala San Luca of the Monastery of Santa Giustina in Prato della Valle, Padua, Italy. Confirming the attractiveness of the Padua Days on Muscle and Mobility Medicine, over 100 titles were accepted until 15 December 2023 (many more than expected), forcing the organization of parallel sessions on both 1 and 2 March 2024. The five days will include lectures and oral presentations of scientists and clinicians from Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Switzerland, UK and USA. Only Australia, China, India and Japan are missing from this edition. But we are confident that authors from those countries who publish articles in the PAGEpress: European Journal of Translational Myology (EJTM: 2022 ESCI Clarivate's Impact Factor: 2.2; SCOPUS Cite Score: 3.2) will decide to join us in the coming years. Together with the program established by 31 January 2024, the abstracts will circulate during the meeting only in the electronic version of the EJTM Issue 34 (1) 2024. Translational mobility medicine and ugo carraro: a life of significant scientific contributions reviewed in celebration

Prof. Ugo Carraro reached 80 years of age on 23 February 2023, and we wish to celebrate him and his work by reviewing his lifetime of scientific achievements in Translational Myology. Currently, he is a Senior Scholar with the University of Padova, Italy, where, as a tenured faculty member, he founded the Interdepartmental Research Center of Myology. Prof. Carraro, a pioneer in skeletal muscle research, is a world-class expert in structural and molecular investigations of skeletal muscle biology, physiology, pathology, and care. An authority in bidimensional gel electrophoresis for myosin light chains, he was the first to separate mammalian muscle myosin heavy chain isoforms by SDS-gel electrophoresis. He has demonstrated that long-term denervated muscle can survive denervation by myofiber regeneration, and shown that an athletic lifestyle has beneficial impacts on muscle reinnervation. He has utilized his expertise in translational myology to develop and validate rehabilitative treatments for denervated and ageing skeletal muscle. He has authored more than 160 PubMed listed papers and numerous scholarly books, including his recent autobiography. Prof. Carraro founded and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Translational Myology and Mobility Medicine. He has organized more than 40 Padua Muscle Days Meetings and continues this, encouraging students and young scientists to participate. As he dreams endlessly, he is currently validating non-invasive analyses on saliva, a promising approach that will allow increased frequency sampling to analyze systemic factors during the transient effects of training and rehabilitation by his proposed Full-Body in- Bed Gym for bed-ridden elderly.

2023 Padua Days of Muscle and Mobility Medicine: post-meeting Book of Abstracts

The 2023 Padua Days of Muscle and Mobility Medicine (Pdm3) were held from March 29th to April 1st, 2023. Most of the abstracts were published electronically in the European Journal of Translational Myology (EJTM) 33 (1) 2023. Here we report the complete book of abstracts that confirms the interest of more than 150 scientists and clinicians from Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Denmark, France, Georgia, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Mongolia, Norway, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, The Netherlands and USA to gather to the Hotel Petrarca of Thermae of Euganean Hills, Padua, Italy for contributing and attending the Pdm3 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zC02D4uPWRg). The 2023 Pdm3 started March 29th in the historic Aula Guariento of thePadua Galilean Academy of Letters, Arts and Sciences with the Lecture of Prof. Carlo Reggiani and ended in the late afternoon with the Lecture of Professor Terje Lømo after introductory words of Professor Stefano Schiaffino. The program followed in the Hotel Petrarca Conferenece Halls from March 30 to April 1, 2023. The extended topic interests of specialists in basic myology sciences and clinicians, collected under the umbrella neologism of Mobility Medicine, is stressed also by expansion of Sections of the EJTM Editorial Board (https://www.pagepressjournals.org/index.php/bam/board). The 2023 Padua Days of Muscle and Mobility Medicine (Pdm3) are scheduled from March 29th to April 1st, 2023. The abstracts collected during autumn and early winter of 2022 were e- published in the issue 33 (1) 2023 of the European Journal of Translational Myology (EJTM). Now the last-minute abstracts are reported here (100 Oral presentations are listed in the final Program). All together they confirm the interest of very different international specialists, filling the four days of 2023Pdm3. Indeed, scientists and clinicians from Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Denmark, France, Georgia, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Mongolia, Norway, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, The Netherlands and USA will gather to the Hotel Petrarca of Thermae of Euganean Hills, Padua, Italy. The apparent heterogeneity of the specialists, collectively raccolti under the umbrella of the Mobility Medicine neologism is stressed by the need to extend the Sections of the 2023 Editorial Borad of EJTM also here reported. Translational research on Myology and Mobility Medicine: 2021 semi-virtual PDM3 from Thermae of Euganean Hills, May 26 - 29, 2021

On 19-21 November 2020, the meeting of the 30 years of the Padova Muscle Days was virtually held while the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic was hitting the world after a seemingly quiet summer. During the 2020-2021 winter, the epidemic is still active, despite the start of vaccinations. The organizers hope to hold the 2021 Padua Days on Myology and Mobility Medicine in a semi-virtual form (2021 S-V PDM3) from May 26 to May 29 at the Thermae of Euganean Hills, Padova, Italy. Here the program and the Collection of Abstracts are presented. Despite numerous world problems, the number of submitted/selected presentations (lectures and oral presentations) has increased, prompting the organizers to extend the program to four dense days.

2019 Ejtm Special on Muscle Fascia

For many years the fasciae have been considered by the anatomists only as a "white envelope for the muscles", that is generally removed in anatomical tables, to recognize muscle nerves and vessels. This is one of the reasons that different descriptions of the fasciae exist. On the other hand, in the last years the fasciae and their properties are becoming of central importance to clinicians practicing in various conventional and alternative therapies. The results from the worldwide research activities constitute a body of significant and important data, but this clinical interest is not supported by in-depth comprehension to how integrate the new knowledge about fasciae with the classical biomechanical models based on muscles, tendons and bones. To close this gap an Ejtm Special on "Muscle Fascia" will be published September 30, 2019, but the typescripts will be added to the Ejtm Early Release list as soon as all authors will approve their Epub papers. Deadline for original articles and reviews is June 1st, 2019, but the Editors hope that authors submit their typescripts much earlier.

Implementing EjtM3 (European Journal of Translational Myology, Mobility, Medicine) along the silk-road

Two main novelties will appear in the second 2018 Issue of the European Journal of Translational Myology demonstrating that the journal is vital and in expansion, one novelty is that the journal is implementing its authorship and readership to broader clinical fields from muscle myology and mobility to clinical medicine and surgery. Consequently, the Editorial Board is also expanding to allow a broader expert evaluation of Authors submitted typescripts. The expanded Editorial Board recently evaluated the option to change the name of the journal from Ejtm to EjtM3 (Myology, Mobility, Medicine), in order to expand the original journal title meaning. Another important novelty is the first BAM Seminal Paper by Damraurer et al. 18(5): 139-148, 2008. It is now reprinted (with Basic and Applied Myology permission) in this Ejtm 28(2), 2018. The topic (chemotherapy-induced muscle wasting) was up-dated by one of our Editors stressing the relevance of the BAM 2008 paper to focus attention not only of myologists, but also of oncologists. From 2008, BAM (renamed from 2010 European Journal of Translational Myology) went far beyond the limits of pure Myology. Al last, but hopefully not at least, a series of Rapid Reports from Iranian Authors are paving the pathway Venetia-extreme Orient, along the ancient silk-road. Ejtm will enthusiastically publish clinical activities from surrounding and extreme Orient. The Marco Polo tradition and his bravery seem successfully continuing.
