Abstract
Background: despite evidence for mutually reinforcing effects of serum uric acid (SUA) and lipids, the effects of uric levels on pancreatic steatosis are not well-established. In this study, the relationship between low concentrations of uric acid and pancreatic steatosis was evaluated. Methods: forty C57BL/6J mice were fed a diet of high uric acid (HU), high fat (HF), high uric acid and high fat (HUHF), and normal control (NC) (10 mice in each group). Weight was measured weekly. Ultrasonography was performed to observe the pancreatic echo intensity of all mice before the end of feeding. Subsequently, peripheral blood was taken for biochemical examination. Intact pancreatic tissues were taken, part of which was used for pathological examination, part of which was used for PCR experiments and Western Blot experiments to obtain glycerophospholipid-associated mRNA data and protein levels. Results: body weight was significantly higher in the HF group than in the other three groups. Higher uric acid matched lower total cholesterol and triglyceride, matched higher low-density lipoprotein, and matched equal high-density lipoprotein. Ultrasound images and HE staining of pancreatic tissues of mice showed that higher uric acid matched lower fat content. The mRNA levels of phospholipase A2 group IB were highest in high uric acid group, while relative protein expression levels were lowest in high uric acid and control groups. Phospholipase A2 group IIA showed the opposite patterns. Conclusions: elevated serum uric acid at low concentrations can inhibit pancreatic steatosis, which is modulated via the glycerophospholipid metabolic pathway.

Abstract
Objectives This research aimed to explore the prevalence and determinants of overweight, obesity, and central obesity in Shenmu City, Shaanxi Province, China and to offer guidance for preventative health measures. Methods We conducted a multi-stage, stratified random sampling survey among 4,565 residents of Shenmu City. Data collection included questionnaires and anthropometric assessments to gather socio-demographic data and to identify cases of overweight, obesity, and central obesity. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was utilized to assess the association between various factors and these conditions. Results The observed prevalence rates for overweight, obesity, central obesity, and the combination of overweight/obesity with central obesity were 39.9%, 18.2%, 48.0%, 32.8%, and 22.8%, respectively. Notably, the incidence of these conditions was significantly higher in men compared to women. The prevalence of overweight and obesity initially increased and then decreased with age, whereas the prevalence of central obesity consistently rose. Furthermore, a higher educational level correlated with lower prevalence rates. Additionally, our analysis indicated that hypertension, dyslipidemia, and hyperuricemia are risk factors for these conditions. Conclusions The findings of this study offer crucial insights for formulating effective strategies to prevent and manage obesity in Shenmu City.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The relationship between obesity and depressive symptoms is well documented, but not visceral fat, especially among Chinese adults are scarce. We aimed to investigate the association between visceral fat and depressive symptoms and the mediation of cognitive function. METHODS A total of 19,919 and 5555 participants from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study were enrolled in the cross-sectional and follow-up analyses. Depressive symptoms were measured by the Center of Epidemiological studies depression scale (CES-D). Visceral fat measured by the waist circumference triglyceride (WT) index [calculated as waist circumference (cm)* triglyceride (mmol/L)]. The relationship between the WT index and depressive symptoms was analyzed by binary logistics and Poisson regression. The mediated role of cognitive ability was examined by intermediary analysis. RESULTS In the cross-sectional study, higher visceral fat was associated with a lower risk of depressive symptoms. But in the follow-up study, individuals in quintile 2 to quintile 4 of the WT index have a reduced risk of depressive symptoms after four years. Compared with the lower index, quintile 2 of the WT index protected from difficulty concentrating (RR [95%CI]: 0.90 [0.82,0.98], p = 0.023), feeling scared (RR [95%CI]: 0.86 [0.73,0.98], p = 0.030) and feeling that life could not go on (RR [95%CI]: 0.85 [0.74,0.98], p = 0.023). Moreover, cognitive ability explained 11.52 % of the association between visceral fat and depressive symptoms. CONCLUSIONS Our findings show that moderate visceral fat was associated with a lower risk of depressive symptoms in middle-aged and older Chinese, partly mediated by cognitive function.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with type 2 diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) are more likely to suffer from a higher uric acid level in blood-hyperuricemia (HUA). There are no conclusive studies done to predict HUA among T2DM patients. Therefore, this study aims to explore the risk factors of HUA among T2DM patients and finally suggest a model to help with its prediction. METHOD In this retrospective research, all the date were collected between March 2017 and October 2019 in the Medical Laboratory Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University. The information included sociodemographic factors, blood routine index, thyroid function indicators and serum biochemical markers. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and multivariate binary logistic regression were performed to screen the risk factors of HUA among T2DM patients in blood tests, and the nomogram was used to perform and visualise the predictive model. The receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve, internal validation, and clinical decision curve analysis (DCA) were applied to evaluate the prediction performance of the model. RESULTS We total collected the clinical date of 841 T2DM patients, whose age vary from 19-86. In this study, the overall prevalence of HUA in T2DM patients was 12.6%. According to the result of LASSO-logistic regression analysis, sex, ethnicity, serum albumin (ALB), serum cystatin C (CysC), serum inorganic phosphorus (IPHOS), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), serum bicarbonate (CO2) and high-density lipoprotein (HDLC) were included in the HUA risk prediction model. The nomogram confirmed that the prediction model fits well (χ2 = 5.4952, P = 0.704) and the calibration curve indicates the model had a good calibration. ROC analysis indicates that the predictive model shows the best discrimination ability (AUC = 0.827; 95% CI: 0.78-0.874) whose specificity is 0.885, and sensitivity is 0.602. CONCLUSION Our study reveals that there were 8 variables that can be considered as independent risk factors for HUA among T2DM patients. In light of our findings, a predictive model was developed and clinical advice was given on its use.

Abstract
High serum uric acid levels, known as hyperuricemia (HUA), are associated with an increased risk of developing gout, chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other metabolic syndromes. In this study, a promising bacterial strain capable of biodegrading uric acid (UA) was successfully isolated from Baijiu cellar mud using UA as the sole carbon and energy source. The bacterial strain was identified as Bacillus paramycoides-YC02 through 16S rDNA sequence analysis. Under optimal culture conditions at an initial pH of 7.0 and 38 °C, YC02 completely biodegraded an initial UA concentration of 500 mg/L within 48 h. Furthermore, cell-free extracts of YC02 were found to catalyze and remove UA. These results demonstrate the strong biodegradation ability of YC02 toward UA. To gain further insight into the mechanisms underlying UA biodegradation by YC02, the draft genome of YC02 was sequenced using Illumina HiSeq. Subsequent analysis revealed the presence of gene1779 and gene2008, which encode for riboflavin kinase, flavin mononucleotide adenylyl transferase, and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD)-dependent urate hydroxylase. This annotation was based on GO or the KEEG database. These enzymes play a crucial role in the metabolism pathway, converting vitamin B2 to FAD and subsequently converting UA to 5-hydroxyisourate (HIU) with the assistance of FAD. Notably, HIU undergoes a slow non-enzymatic breakdown into 2-oxo-4-hydroxy-4-carboxy-5-ureidoimidazoline (OHCU) and (S)-allantoin. The findings of this study provide valuable insights into the metabolism pathway of UA biodegradation by B. paramycoides-YC02 and offer a potential avenue for the development of bacterioactive drugs against HUA and gout.

Abstract
Ferulic acid is a well-known phenolic acid compound and possesses multiple health-promoting and pharmacological effects. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) and hyperuricemia (HUA) have become health problems worldwide and are closely connected. The aim of this study was to explore the influence of ferulic acid on MetS-related HUA and its underlying mechanisms. Rats were administered high-fructose and high-fat diet (HFFD) with or without ferulic acid (0.05 and 0.1%) for 20 weeks. Intake of HFFD resulted in obesity, hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and dyslipidemia, which were alleviated by ferulic acid consumption. Treatment of rats with ferulic acid diminished the levels of lipids and inflammatory cytokines and enhanced the activities of antioxidant enzymes in the liver caused by HFFD. Additionally, administration of ferulic acid blocked a HFFD-induced elevation in activities and mRNA expression of enzymes involving in uric acid (UA) synthesis. Molecular docking analysis denoted that ferulic acid bound to the active center of these enzymes, indicative of the potential interaction with each other. These two aspects might partially be responsible for the decrement in serum UA content after ferulic acid ingestion. In conclusion, ferulic acid supplementation ameliorated lipid and glucose metabolic abnormalities, hepatic damage, and UA formation in MetS rats. There was a dose correlation between lipid deposition and UA synthesis-related indicators. These findings implied that ferulic acid could be applied as a promising dietary remedy for the management of MetS-associated HUA.
