Expertise-dependent differences in mental representation metrics of pas de bourrée

Precise movement control is of prime importance in almost every kind of sport and greatly influences an athlete's performance. In dancing not only motor but also cognitive skills, e.g. in the form of memorized representational structures, are essential components of the performance. This study investigated different metrics related to the long-term memory of ballet dancers with different skill levels regarding the pas de bourrée using the structural-dimensional analysis of mental representations (SDA-M) method. To this end, the Correct Action Selection Probability Analysis (CASPA) algorithm, a recent SDA-M extension that predicts the individual probabilities of correct action selections within a movement sequence, has been applied in the context of dancing for the first time. Significant positive correlations were found between participants' degree of expertise and the proximity of their mental representation structure to the ideal reference structure, as well as between the degree of expertise and the probability of correct action selection within the movement sequence estimated by CASPA. The results indicate that increased training experience in ballet dancing is not only associated with functionally better structured mental representations of the movement sequence but also with a higher probability of correct action selection. These findings provide further evidence for SDA-M with CASPA as an auspicious tool for individualized task-related memory assessments and diagnostics in different action sequences, e.g. as the basis for mental training.

Analysis of the Genetic Parameters for Dairy Linear Appraisal and Zoometric Traits: A Tool to Enhance the Applicability of Murciano-Granadina Goats Major Areas Evaluation System

Selection for zoometrics defines individuals' productive longevity, endurance, enhanced productive abilities and consequently, their long-term profitability. When zoometric analysis is aimed at large highly selected populations or in those at different levels of selection, linear appraisal systems (LAS) provide a timely response. This study estimates genetic and phenotypic parameters for zoometric/LAS traits in Murciano-Granadina goats, estimating genetic and phenotypic correlations among all traits, and determining whether major area selection would be appropriate or if adaptability strategies may need to be followed. Heritability estimates for the zoometric/LAS traits were low to high, ranging from 0.09 to 0.43, and the accuracy of estimation has improved after decades, rendering standard errors negligible. Scale inversion of specific traits may need to be performed before major areas selection strategies are implemented. Genetic and phenotypic correlations suggests that negative selection against thicker bones and higher rear insertion heights indirectly results in the optimization of selection practices in the rest of the traits, especially those in the structure, capacity and mammary system major areas. The integration and implementation of the strategies proposed within the Murciano-Granadina breeding program maximizes selection opportunities and the sustainable international competitiveness of the Murciano-Granadina goat in the dairy goat breed panorama.

Functional brain abnormalities in major depressive disorder using a multiscale community detection approach

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a serious disease associated with abnormal brain regions, however, the interconnection between specific brain regions related to depression has not been fully explored. To solve this problem, the paper proposes a novel multiscale community detection method to compare the differences in brain regions between normal controls (NC) and MDD patients. This study adopted the Brainnetome Atlas to divide the brain into 246 regions and extract the time series of each region. The Pearson correlation was used to measure the similarity among different brain regions to conduct the brain functional network and to perform multiscale community detection. The optimal brain community structure of each group was further explored based on the modularized Qcut algorithm, normalized mutual information (NMI), and variation of information (VI). The Jaccard index was then applied to compare the abnormalities of each brain region from different community environments between the brain function networks of NC and MDD patients. The experiments revealed several abnormal brain regions between NC and MDD, including the superior frontal gyrus, middle frontal gyrus, inferior frontal gyrus, orbital gyrus, superior temporal gyrus, middle temporal gyrus, inferior temporal gyrus, posterior superior temporal sulcus, inferior parietal gyrus, precuneus, postcentral gyrus, insular gyrus, cingulate gyrus, hippocampus and basal ganglia. Finally, a new subnetwork related to cognitive function was discovered, which was composed of the island gyrus and inferior frontal gyrus. All experiments indicated that the proposed method is useful in detecting functional brain abnormalities in MDD, and it can provide valuable insights into the diagnosis and treatment of MDD.

A New Way of Investigating the Relationship Between Fasting Blood Sugar Level and Drinking Glucose Solution

The existing t-test of a correlation coefficient works under a determinate environment. In uncertainty, the existing t-test of a correlation coefficient is unable to investigate the significance of correlation. The study presents a modification of the existing t-test of a correlation coefficient using neutrosophic statistics. The test statistic is designed to investigate the significance of correlation when imprecise observations or uncertainties in the level of significance are presented. The test is applied to data obtained from patients with diabetes. From the data analysis, the proposed t-test of a correlation coefficient is found to be more effective than existing tests.
