Abstract
PURPOSE Xerostomia is not a disease in itself. This condition is associated with systemic diseases, medication use, and radiotherapy. Oral and general health suffer when the salivary gland´s function is reduced. The effectiveness of therapeutic methods in resolving this issue thus far has been inadequate. This study aimed to determine the photobiomodulation (PBM) effect of a 980 nm laser on xerostomia. METHODS A quasi-experimental study was carried out using a 980 nm diode laser on 28 patients with xerostomia. A diode laser (980 nm) was used extortionally over the submandibular glands and parotids and it was used internally in the sublingual glands. The laser beam (extrorally 6 J, 300mW, 20 s, and introrally 4 J, 200mW, 20 s) was applied bilaterally every other day for 10 sessions. It should be noted that 8 points of the parotid, 2 points of the submandibular glands, and 2 points of the sublingual glands were irradiated. The saliva was collected each session using the Navazesh technique, 5 min before and after PBM. The Wilcoxon test was used to study the effect of laser therapy on saliva flow rate (volume and weight). The P < 0.05 level was considered a significant level. RESULTS The volume (P < 0.0001) and the weight (P < 0.0001) of the saliva were increased by using a 980 nm diode laser. While, in smokers and diabetic patients with hypertension, no significant difference was observed in either saliva volume (P = 0.593, P = 0.092) or weight (P = 0.785, P = 0.089). CONCLUSION In this study, the volume and weight of the unstimulated saliva in most patients with xerostomia increased with using PBM.

Abstract
Cutaneous melanoma is the major cause of mortality from all skin cancers. The treatment has been revolutionized in recent years by introduction of immunotherapy and targeted therapy for melanoma patients Stages III and IV. Therefore, the role of surgery in melanoma treatment needs to be redefined. In this narrative review, we will focus on surgery for diagnosis, treatment of primary tumor, and metastases in the era of new and effective medical treatment options. Neoadjuvant therapy is currently investigated in several trials. Surgery for treatment-resistant metastases is another field of interest. In conclusion, surgery remains a cornerstone for diagnosis and treatment of primary melanoma. Therapeutic lymphadenectomy has lost importance while surgery in sentinel lymph node diagnostics and metastasectomy are useful in a tailored individual approach of combined treatments. There is a trend to less invasive surgical procedures.

Abstract
Rosacea is a chronic cutaneous disorder affecting primarily the face, characterized by erythema, transient or persistent, telangiectasia, and inflammatory lesions including papulo-pustules and swelling. The essential component of the disease is the persistent erythema of facial skin. Episodes of flushing (acute-subacute intermittent vasodilation) are common. Swelling and erythema of the nose along with dilatation of the pilosebaceous poral orifices, known as rhinophyma, can be noted in chronic cases. Rosacea affects up to 10% of the world population and is especially noted in fair skinned individuals aged 35 to 50. Women are affected more often than men. Several treatment modalities including topical medications, systemic drugs, lasers and light-based therapies have been used for the management of rosacea with variable results. Topical medications such as azelaic acid, metronidazole, and sulfacetamide/sulphur, oral antibiotics such as tetracyclines, and oral retinoids alone or, most commonly, in combination form the mainstay of treatment. Light therapies such as intense pulsed light and pulsed dye laser are best used for the eythemato-telangiectatic type. Topical brimonidine, oxymetazoline, ivermectin, tacrolimus, pimercrolimus, low-dose modified release tetracyclines and botulinum toxin are the new additions to the therapeutic armamentarium. This article provides a comprehensive review of the various therapies used for rosacea.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Lasers have a favorable synergistic effect when combined with other modalities of treatment against keloids. Different types of lasers have been used with triamcinolone infiltration, resulting in promising success rates. The purpose of this study is to describe our first experience treating earlobe keloids with 980 nm laser diode excision followed by triamcinolone infiltration and present our outcomes after 24 months of follow-up. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective chart review of 11 patients with 14 earlobe keloids treated with excision using a 980 nm laser diode followed by triamcinolone acetonide infiltration, between January 2015 and May 2016. Database included demographics, Fitzpatrick skin type, laterality, lesion size, and postoperative visits information. Outcomes were assessed in terms of keloid recurrence rates, complications, and patient subjective aesthetical result satisfaction after 24 months of follow-up. RESULTS All procedures were technically completed, and follow-up accomplished without attrition. One (7.14%) patient experienced keloid recurrence after the third month. Four (28.57%) patients experienced early wound dehiscence, successfully treated with debridement and re-suture. Self-assessment of aesthetical result was considered "very good" in 64.28% of patients. CONCLUSION Surgical excision with 980 nm laser diode followed by triamcinolone infiltration is well-tolerated and shows favorable results treating earlobe keloids, and can be considered a first-line treatment. Comparison between different types of lasers and control groups in large clinical trials is warranted in order to obtain strong clinical evidence for clear indications and recommendations. Abstract
We studied the features of the appearance of broadband "white" emission in CaF2-x mol% ErF3 and ZrO2-x mol% Er2O3 (x = 0-25) nanosized dielectric particles upon their excitation by intense laser radiation with λ exc = 1550 nm. Comparison of the results of this study with the results obtained previously for other materials doped with Er3+ ions confirmed the thermal nature of the observed emission and made it possible to identify the main factors affecting its occurrence. These include the band gap of the material and the presence of defects in its structure. A method of applying the effect in dermatology is proposed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to determine the temperature depth profiles induced in human skin in vivo by using a pulsed 975 nm diode laser (with 5 ms pulse duration) and compare them with those induced by the more common 532 nm (KTP) and 1,064 nm (Nd:YAG) lasers. Quantitative assessment of the energy deposition characteristics in human skin at 975 nm should help design of safe and effective treatment protocols when using such lasers. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS Temperature depth profiles induced in the human skin by the three lasers were determined using pulsed photothermal radiometry (PPTR). This technique involves time-resolved measurement of mid-infrared emission from the irradiated test site and reconstruction of the laser-induced temperature profiles using an earlier developed optimization algorithm. Measurements were performed on volar sides of the forearms in seven volunteers with healthy skin. At irradiation spot diameters of 3-4 mm, the radiant exposures were 0.24, 0.36, and 5.7 J/cm2 for the 975, 532, and 1,064 nm lasers, respectively. RESULTS Upon normalization to the same radiant exposure of 1 J/cm 2 , the assessed maximum temperature rise in the epidermis averaged 0.8 °C for the 975 nm laser, 7.4 °C for the 532 nm, and 0.6 °C for the 1,064 nm laser. The characteristic subsurface depth to which 50% of the absorbed laser energy was deposited was on average 0.31 mm at 975 nm irradiation, and slightly deeper at 1,064 nm, and 0.15 mm at 532 nm. The experimentally obtained relations were reproduced in a dedicated numerical simulation. CONCLUSIONS The assessed energy deposition characteristics show that the pulsed 975 nm diode laser is very suitable for controlled heating of the upper dermis as required, for example, for nonablative skin rejuvenation. The risks of nonselective overheating of the epidermis and subcutis are significantly reduced in comparison with irradiation at 532 and 1,064 nm, respectively. Lasers Surg. Abstract
Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a common benign vascular proliferation which often occurs on the head, neck, hands, and feet. Among the various treatment options for PG, surgical excision is the most effective treatment which offers the lowest overall recurrence rates and also provides the exact diagnosis. However, it could have difficulties to do the surgery when lesions are located on the fingers and toes, especially very near to the nails, so laser may be a very good alternative choice. In this article, we evaluated the clinical efficacy and safety of neodymium-yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser for treatment of PG located on the fingers and toes. Twenty-one patients with 21 PGs located on the fingers and toes were treated by multispot Nd-YAG laser. We chose monopulse (pulse width 10.5-13.5 ms; energy 100-125 J/cm2); treatment interval was 3-4 weeks. All lesions disappeared after one or two treatments. There was no apparent scar formation, no impact on the function of the fingers and toes, no damage to nail growth, and no recurrence in more than 12-month follow-up. Nd-YAG is an effective and safety treatment option for treatment of PG located on the fingers and toes.

Abstract
Cutaneous melanoma is an aggressive neoplasia of melanocytes. Prognosis is dependent on tumor stage. Stage IV melanoma is characterized by the occurrence of distant metastases. Response of metastases to classical chemotherapy is limited and toxicity of treatment is high. In recent years, new developments in immunotherapy and targeted therapies improved prognosis of stage IV melanoma patients with better tolerability of treatment. There is no dispute about surgical treatment of primary melanoma. But what is the value of metastasectomy in the era of new systemic treatments? This review aims to discuss available data for surgical removal of distant metastases for several organs and tissues. The available evidence suggests that for selected patients with possible complete resection of all tumor metastases, metastasectomy remains an effective treatment option with a benefit in overall survival.

Abstract
Idiopathic scrotal calcinosis is a rare disorder presenting with firm and painless nodules on the scrotal skin. The most common site is the frontal aspect of the scrotum whereas the dorsal aspect with the transition to the perineum is rarely involved. Surgery is the gold standard of treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Facial reticular blue veins are of esthetic concern. Most often these veins develop on the lower lids. The safest and most effective way of treatment is by vascular lasers. CASE REPORT: We report on a successful reticular vein treatment using a long-pulsed 1064 nm Nd: YAG laser. We present a follow-up of 8 years with constant esthetic improvement without unwanted adverse events. CONCLUSION: There was no relapse demonstrating the efficacy of Nd: YAG laser.

Abstract
Pyogenic granuloma is a common benign vascular tumour occurring in all ages. Both skin and mucous membranes can be affected. Of pathogenetic importance are trauma, BRAF mutations and probably herpes virus type 1, Orf virus and/or human papilloma virus type 2. The tumour consists of capillary proliferations, venules and fibromyxoid stroma. The development of a lesion occurs in three stages and bleeding is a common symptom. The tumour can mimic various other vascular lesions, solid tumours, and soft tissue infections. In recent years, targeted tumour therapies have become the most common cause of drug-induced pyogenic granulomas. The backbone of treatment is surgical procedures including laser therapy. New developments in medical drug therapy include topical and systemic beta-adrenergic receptor antagonists timolol and propranolol. Drug therapy is an alternative for young children, ocular and periungual pyogenic granuloma.
