Penile ulcerative pyoderma gangrenosum: A rare entity

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare, chronic, ulcerative, neutrophilic, and inflammatory skin disease. It most commonly affects the lower limb, may affect peristomal skin, and rarely involves mucosal and internal sites. Genital involvement has been rarely reported. Hereby, we report a case of penile PG in a 70-year-old male treated with oral steroids.

Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare neutrophilic inflammatory skin disorder commonly seen over lower limbs. Involvement of penile area is rare. We report this rare case of occurrence of ulcerative type of pyoderma gangrenosum over penis with pustular type elsewhere over the body, healing with keloids in an immunocompetent young man with no systemic associations.

Pyoderma gangrenosum: An uncommon cause of nonsexually acquired genital ulcer disease

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare neutrophilic dermatosis affecting various sites, isolated genital PG being an uncommon presentation. We report a case of a 50-year-old diabetic male who presented with 2 penile ulcers. Extensive evaluation was done for sexually and nonsexually transmitted infections, malignancy, drug-induced vasculitis, and immunobullous etiology. A diagnosis of PG was made based on the clinical findings and histopathological exclusion of other causes. The patient showed a rapid response to prednisolone, dapsone, and colchicine. This report highlights the importance of keeping PG as a differential diagnosis in cases of genital ulcers which may mimic other sexually transmitted infections.

Broadening the differential: A case of penile pyoderma gangrenosum

Pyoderma gangrenosum can be a challenging diagnosis for even the most experienced clinician. Misdiagnosis can lead to delays in appropriate treatment and unwarranted debridement that can increase the severity of the disease. Penile pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare presentation of this pathologic process. We describe the diagnostic workup and successful treatment of advanced penile PG in a 42-year-old male with a history of penile fracture who presented with delayed wound healing and multiple unsuccessful urologic surgeries. This case demonstrates the importance of keeping a broad differential, including PG, in order to avoid delays to appropriate care.

Granulomatous pyoderma gangrenosum of the genitalia in the absence of Crohn's disease

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare ulcerative neutrophilic disorder of the skin. Atypical variants of PG such as vegetative PG, bullous PG, and pustular forms are described in literature. Occasionally, granulomatous reaction in dermis may be seen on histology when PG is associated with Crohn's disease or in the vegetative variant of PG. We report a case of granulomatous PG involving the genitalia in a 43-year-old female without associated inflammatory bowel disease.

Pyoderma gangrenosum masquerading as Donovanosis

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology characterized by neutrophilic infiltration of the dermis and destruction of tissue. PG is diagnosed after excluding more commonly occurring condition presenting with similar manifestation. Though PG has been reported to occur over the genitalia, it rarely presents with concurrent involvement of the groin. Herein, we present a case of PG masquerading as Donovanosis.
