Abstract
OBJECTIVES Mannose binding lectin (MBL) gene single nucleotide polymorphisms have been associated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) risk with inconsistent results. This study aimed to explore whether MBL2 A\B, A\C, A\D, A\O, L\H and Y\X polymorphisms affected SLE susceptibility. METHODS A meta-analysis was performed on 20 studies, containing allelic contrast, additive, dominant and recessive models. Odds ratio (OR) was calculated to reflect the effect of association. RESULTS A total of 64 pooled comparisons were conducted, including 7194 SLE patients and 7401 healthy controls. The meta-analysis inducted a significant association between allele B and SLE (OR = 0.766, 95% CI = 0.681-0.862, P < .001). The genotype BB in the additive model and AB + BB in the recessive model both reduced the risk of SLE (OR = 0.611, 95% CI = 0.422-0.882, P = .009; OR = 0.806, 95% CI = 0.688-0.944, P = .008). Regarding A\O polymorphisms, results revealed statistical differences in allelic contrast, additive model and recessive models (OR = 0.826, 95% CI = 0.732-0.931, P = .002; OR = 0.737, 95% CI = 0.557-0.977, P = .034 and OR = 0.793, 95% CI = 0.683-0.921, P = .002, respectively). As for L\H, meta-analysis revealed that allele H and genotype HH both decreased SLE susceptibility in allelic contrast and dominant models (OR = 1.463, 95% CI = 1.097-2.007, P = .018; OR = 1.383, 95% CI = 1.124-1.701, P = .002). Stratification by ethnicity indicated that allele H related to SLE in European populations (OR = 0.736, 95% CI = 0.617-0.879, P = .001), and the recessive model correlated with SLE in Asians (OR = 0.808, 95% CI = 0.667-0.979, P = .03). CONCLUSION The present study suggests that A\B and A\O polymorphisms were associated with SLE susceptibility, and the allele H may be a protective factor in SLE.

Abstract
Autoimmune diseases are still considered to be pressing concerns due the fact that they are leaders in death and disability causes worldwide. Resveratrol is a polyphenol derived from a variety of foods and beverages, including red grapes and red wine. Anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiaging properties of resveratrol have been reported, and in some animal and human studies this compound reduced and ameliorated the progression of autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease, and type 1 diabetes mellitus. Thus, this review aims to summarize and critically analyze the role of resveratrol in the modulation of several organ-specific or systemic autoimmune diseases.

Abstract
In the clinic, vitiligo is characterized by two stages: Stable and progressive. The pathogenesis of vitiligo is still not clear. Here, we identified serum markers of vitiligo by screening for differentially expressed proteins in patients with vitiligo compared to healthy individuals. Serum samples were collected from patients with vitiligo (n=10 for both the stable and progressive stages) and healthy individuals (n=10). Two‑dimensional gel electrophoresis followed by matrix‑assisted laser desorption/ionization time‑of‑flight mass spectrometry and western blotting were used to validate the differential expression of the proteins in the serum (n=20 each, at both stages for patients and healthy individuals). A total of 48 differentially expressed proteins were identified by gel image analysis. There were 28 differentially expressed proteins in patients with progressive vitiligo (PV) and 13 differentially expressed proteins in patients with stable vitiligo (SV) compared with that in healthy individuals. Additionally, 7 differentially expressed proteins were identified in patients with PV compared with those in patients with SV. The western blotting results showed that Peroxiredoxin‑6, apolipoprotein L1, apolipoprotein E and mannose‑binding protein were differentially expressed in patients with different stages of vitiligo. Our results showed that change serum levels of several proteins might be useful as biomarkers or in understanding the pathogenesis of vitiligo.

Abstract
The complement system contributes to the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Mannose-binding lectin (MBL) is a key molecule of the lectin pathway of complement and seems to be related to the clinical manifestations of this disease. We evaluated the serum levels of MBL and its relationship with disease onset and clinical findings in SLE patients. Serum samples were analysed in 195 patients and 145 healthy controls from southern Brazil. Patients with high MBL levels (above 2000 ng/ml) showed a significant increase in the frequency of thrombocytopaenia ( p = 0.007; OR = 2.71; 95% CI = 1.32-5.55); and seizures ( p = 0.034; OR = 2.61; 95% CI = 1.07-6.37). A positive correlation between disease activity and MBL levels (>2000 ng/ml; p = 0.031, rho = 0.279) as well as of MBL concentration with accumulated organ damage ( p = 0.021; rho = 0.232) was observed. Our results suggest a role for MBL in the development of clinical manifestations such as thrombocytopaenia and seizures in SLE patients. These findings corroborate the participation of the lectin pathway of complement in the pathophysiologic mechanisms underlying clinical manifestations of SLE.

Abstract
We report the case of a 35-year-old male, who was diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in 2010 based on the presence of articular, serous, renal, immune, and hematologic involvement. He also had secondary antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). He was treated with prednisone 10 mg per day, hydroxychloroquine 200 mg per day, methotrexate 12.5 mg per week, leflunomide 20 mg per day, and oral anticoagulation previous to the present event. He presented to emergency room with a 7 day disease duration characterized by pain in the left thigh, which increased with physical activity, resulting in claudication; he also had malaise and fever. The X-ray films showed periostitis of the lower half of the left femur with bone marrow narrowing; the scintigraphy showed marked increased uptake in the middle and distal thirds of the left femur, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed thickening and hyperintensity of the cortex of the diaphysis and distal epiphysis of the femur and endosteal irregularity. Empirical treatment was started with vancomycin for 3 weeks. Femur biopsy and cultures were performed, isolating Salmonella spp. group "D" Vi (-); treatment with cotrimoxazole and ceftazidime for 4 weeks followed by doxycycline and cotrimoxazole for 4 months were given with a favorable functional outcome. This is an unusual case of a young adult with Garre's sclerosing osteomyelitis associated to SLE and caused by salmonella. The literature is reviewed and the clinical conditions predisposing to this infection are discussed, particularly in patients with SLE.
