Analysis of yogic practices and aerobic exercise on flexibility among children with down syndrome

Context: Analysis the impact of Yogic Practices and Aerobic Exercises on Flexibility among children with Down syndrome. Aim: This   study aims to identify the effect of Yogic Practices and Aerobic Exercises on Flexibility among children with Down syndrome. Research Design : Random group design was used as research design. Material and Methods : 30 down syndrome boys age group 12 to 18 years have been selected for as final samples for further data collection process of the study. Subjects for study have been chosen from Anugragha special school Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu, India. The subjects were divided into three groups, namely Yogic practice group, Aerobic exercise group, and control group, each group consisting of 10 subjects. The study was conducted on dependent variables such as flexibility.

The impact of an autonomy-supportive yoga intervention on self-determination in adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities

The aim of this study was to examine the impact of an autonomy-supportive yoga intervention on the self-determination of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Research supports the use of autonomy-supportive interventions to increase positive health outcomes with this population. The present study utilized a qualitative approach with eight subjects participating in semi-structured qualitative interviews. Content analysis identified support for three themes related to the impact of yoga: autonomy, relatedness, competence. The results suggested that the yoga intervention may support self-determination for adults with IDD, as the participants' responses demonstrated increased feelings of autonomy, competence, and relatedness. The results also indicated that an autonomy-supportive yoga intervention can be achieved with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities by targeting the key constructs of autonomy, relatedness, and competence.

Promoting physical activity through exergaming in young adults with intellectual disabilities: a pilot study

Various health problems of people with intellectual disabilities (ID) are associated with their physical inactivity. The present study aimed at the understanding of physiological and psychological responses toward exergaming in seven young adults with mild to moderate ID after a single-session and a multiple-session condition, respectively. Their heart rate (HR), the rating of perceived exertion (RPE), and physical activity enjoyment scale (PACES) were measured on control and exergaming sessions. The significant increased HR, which may represent the increased physical activity levels that led to energy expenditure, was observed after a single-session and a multiple-session condition. In addition, the significant increase in RPE and PACES were evident after a single-session condition but a multiple-session condition. The feeling of physical fatigue seems to be distracted by external motivators (e.g. music). However, the positive affectivity to exercise was not noted when exercise was scheduled as their daily routines. This phenomenon might explain the high prevalence of physical inactivity among this population.
