Abstract
ABSTRACT 18F-FDG PET/CT has been found useful for the detection of the source of infection/inflammation in the body. Platelet-rich plasma is a new treatment modality in which plasma is injected subdermally or intradermally for potential hair regrowth into the scalp. We report a case of 43-year-old woman with right breast cancer who underwent surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy 2 years ago and is currently on hormonal therapy. 18F-FDG PET/CT demonstrate incidental findings of increased FDG avidity in the scalp after platelet-rich plasma therapy.

Abstract
Current medicinal therapies for treating hair loss have shortcomes due to variability and ineffectiveness, noncompliance, and adverse effects. The prevalence of hair loss and its associated negative psychological impact have driven research into regenerative medicine approaches, such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and cell-based therapies, in an attempt to find alternative, safe, effective, and reproducible treatments. Current research shows promising results from these therapies; however, more robust trials are needed to confirm the reported efficacies of PRP and cell-based therapies. Moreover, standardization of treatment preparation as well as dose and regimen are needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The use of platelet-rich plasma has emerged as one of the most desired nonsurgical treatments for facial rejuvenation and hair restoration. It has grown to encompass a wide variety of applications within the field of plastic surgery, including its use in combination with microneedling, laser, and fat-grafting procedures. METHODS In this article, the authors aim to (1) describe the preparation process of platelet-rich plasma; (2) discuss the proposed science behind platelet-rich plasma with regard to its evolving role in hair restoration and facial rejuvenation; and (3) highlight the recent literature examining its widespread use. RESULTS Based on the available literature, there is a therapeutic advantage to the use of platelet-rich plasma as a single treatment modality for alopecia and skin rejuvenation and in combination with laser skin treatment and fat grafting. There is, however, a considerable amount of variability in the processing, preparation, and treatment modalities. CONCLUSIONS Despite a lack of standardized protocols for platelet-rich plasma preparation and a scarcity of large-scale studies with long-term follow-up, there is convincing evidence with objective measurement modalities that display positive outcomes after treatment for skin rejuvenation, hair regrowth, wound healing, and fat graft take.

Abstract
The goal of these recommendations is to provide a framework to practitioners for implementing useful, evidence-based recommendations for the preparation of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and its use in androgenetic alopecia (AGA). The Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL) assigned the task of preparing these recommendations to its taskforce on PRP. A comprehensive literature search was done in the English language on the PRP across multiple databases. The grade of evidence and strength of recommendation were evaluated on the GRADE (Grading of Recommendation, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation) framework. A draft of clinical recommendations was developed on the best available evidence, which was also scrutinized and critically evaluated by the IADVL Academy of Dermatology. Based on the inputs received, the final consensus statement was prepared. A total of 30 articles (meta-analyses, prospective and retrospective studies, reviews [including chapters in books], and case series) were critically evaluated, and the evidence thus gathered was used in the preparation of these recommendations. This expert group recommends use of manual double-spin method for the preparation of PRP for AGA. Minimum three to five sessions of PRP are recommended for AGA with a gap of 1 month between the two sessions. Patients with Grade II to V Norwood Hamilton classification of AGA are the ideal subset for PRP. A total of 5 to 7 mL of PRP and 0.05 to 0.1 mL/cm2 is the recommended dose of PRP for AGA. Activation of PRP is not required when it is used for AGA. About 1 to 1.5 million platelets/μL of platelets in PRP is the recommended platelet concentration in PRP for the treatment of AGA. I-PRF (injectable platelet-rich fibrin) has also been found to be useful in AGA, although further studies are required to establish its role. PRP can also have an adjunctive role in hair transplantation procedures.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is effective in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia (AGA). AIMS The purpose of this study is to assess the effect of PRP on the proliferation of human follicle dermal papilla cells (HFDPCs), to observe the effect of PRP on the growth of hair follicles and hair shaft in vitro, to measure growth factors, and to evaluate the efficacy and safety of PRP injection. PATIENTS/METHODS The effect of PRP on the proliferation of HFDPCs was observed. The length of hair follicle and hair shaft in vitro was measured. Then, the concentration of growth factors (EGF, FGF-2, FGF-7, IGF-1, HGF, PDGF-BB, and VEGF-A) was evaluated. Half-head injection of PRP was conducted to 10 males. Three treatments were conducted at 30-day intervals. Digital photographs were taken; hair diameter, hair density, unit density of hair follicles, and terminal hair/ vellus hair were analyzed. RESULTS Platelet-rich plasma significantly promoted the proliferation of HFDPCs. Under the PRP culture, the hair follicle and hair shaft were grown, and the hair growth length on the 3rd and 6th days was greater than that of the control. PRP contained growth factors such as EGF, FGF-2, FGF-7, IGF-1, HGF, PDGF-B, and VEGF-A. Hair diameter, hair density, and unit hair follicle density on the PRP injection side peaked in the 6th month. The terminal hair/ vellus hair of the PRP injection side reached a peak in the 4th month. The average patient satisfaction during the entire treatment was 5.4 points (0-10 points). CONCLUSION Platelet-rich plasma can promote hair growth. PRP injection is safe and effective for the treatment of AGA.

Abstract
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous preparation of plasma with concentrated platelets containing various growth factors and cytokines that enhance the body's inherent capacity to repair and regenerate hair follicles. A few studies and case reports support the use of PRP for the treatment of alopecia areata (AA). Further large-scale studies are needed to evaluate the efficacy of PRP as monotherapy or in association with other therapeutic modalities for AA. Although PRP is relatively safe and potentially effective, there is no standardized protocol or recommendations for the number of PRP sessions required to treat and maintain hair growth.

Abstract
The prevalence of hair loss, its psychological consequences, and historically subpar treatments present a unique challenge to the physician. The current Food and Drug Administration-approved treatments for hair loss are plagued by ineffectiveness, noncompliance, and adverse effects. Recent advances in our understanding of hair physiology have fueled the development of more efficacious, minimally invasive, and safer treatment options for hair restoration including plasma-rich protein and stem cell therapy. Platelet-rich plasma, the autologous preparation of concentrated platelets in plasma, when injected into the scalp of patients with both androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and alopecia areata (AA), has been shown to increase hair count and density. The clinical findings have been supported by histologic evaluation of the scalp skin. These findings have been recapitulated in numerous randomized controlled trials. Stem cell therapy, although newer in its application in hair restoration, has also been effective for treating both AGA and AA. The isolation techniques for stem cells are varied, but regardless have shown promising results in early prospective and retrospective studies.

Abstract
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a promising treatment for hair restoration in patients with androgenic alopecia. Created from a platelet concentrate from an autologous blood draw, PRP is a safe therapeutic option for patients with hair loss. It is used alone or in conjunction with topical and oral therapies. Most studies of hair restoration with PRP report positive outcomes. Further research to optimize PRP preparation/administration procedures and identify patient populations that benefit most from this treatment are needed, as is long-term follow-up of objective hair loss outcomes. PRP appears to be a safe technology with excellent potential for promoting hair restoration.

Abstract
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has gained popularity in facial plastic surgery because of its role in wound healing. PRP, having a higher concentration of platelets, allows for greater release of growth factors and biologically active proteins, which in turn activates the wound-healing cascade stimulating neoangiogenesis and collagen production. One of the most popular uses for PRP is for facial skin rejuvenation in the form of dermal injections and topical application during microneedling. The promising nature of PRP makes using it for injection and/or in conjunction with microneedling a good addition to any practice that deals with skin rejuvenation.

Abstract
As a promising alternative to traditional treatment, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is being used to encourage hair growth through the release of growth factors and cytokines. In addition to hair restoration, PRP’s multifactorial capabilities can also be used to treat aging skin, facial scarring, and acne. The purpose of this review is to critically examine the success of PRP in the field of dermatology, with specific attention to the role of PRP in hair restoration. Where possible, meta-analyses were used to evaluate the efficacy of PRP. In androgenetic alopecia (AGA) patients, 3 monthly PRP injections (1 session administered every month for 3 months) exhibited greater efficacy over placebo as measured by change in total hair density (hair/cm2) over the treatment period (mean difference: 25.61, 95% CI: 4.45 to 46.77; P = .02). The studies included in the meta-analysis used a half-head design, which may have influenced the results because of the effects PRP can induce. Controlled studies suggest that 2 to 4 sessions of PRP combined with traditional therapies and procedures can help minimize acne scarring and facial burns, improve aesthetic results, and decrease recovery time. However, data for these indications are lacking and are less robust in design. In conclusion, to achieve an improvement in hair restoration in patients with mild AGA, 3 initial monthly PRP injections should be given. Only upon completion of rigorous, randomized, controlled studies can standardized and effective PRP protocols for treating dermatology conditions such as acne scarring, facial burns, and aging skin be determined.

Abstract
Hair loss or alopecia in males is very common, and so is its treatment. Until now, platelet-rich plasma has been in use for hair regeneration, which has shown results but lacks regenerative potential as compared to platelet-rich fibrin (PRF). Injectable-PRF (i-PRF) is advanced version of PRF in liquid form which can be injected and contains stem cells with high regenerative potential. Hair regeneration in Type VI and Type VII was observed which are difficult to treat. Hair growth with i-PRF has better regenerative potential. All cases reported showed improvement in hair growth.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Alopecia is often a cause of great concern to patients for cosmetic and psychologic reasons. The aim of treating non-scarring alopecias is to reduce hair loss and, to some extent, enhance hair regrowth. However, therapies for scarring alopecias are limited and aiming to halt disease progression. Nonetheless, available modalities of treatment come with numerous side effects. Areas covered: Many new treatments for non-scarring alopecias have been introduced in recent years. This review summarizes the safety concerns when using novel therapeutic modalities such as JAK inhibitors, hair transplantation, mesotherapy, oral minoxidil, platelet-rich plasma, microneedling, and 5α-reductase inhibitors for treating hair loss. A broad literature search was performed using PubMed and Google Scholar in April 2018 to compile published articles that reported the adverse effects of new therapeutic modalities for alopecia. Expert opinion: Although emerging therapeutic modalities for alopecia have demonstrated efficacy in hair regrowth and treating established disease, their safety profiles vary widely. When considering the new treatments for alopecia, physicians should weigh the potential benefits and risks of each treatment or combination treatment to ensure safe and successful outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on enhancing healing of trachea allotransplantation and confirm the effect via parallel histological and tracheoscopic examinations in seven adult New Zealand White rabbits. MATERIALS AND METHODS Harvested trachea was inserted into recipients with end-to-end anastomosis by a simple interrupted suture. PRP-treated rabbits were treated with 0.5 ml of PRP at the trachea grafts, while control rabbit allografts were treated with 0.5 ml of saline. RESULTS Tracheoscopy of tracheal allografts treated with PRP revealed that the trachea was well healed with no stenosis. The healing effect in the PRP-treated rabbits increased tracheal activity and produced faster trachea regeneration compared to that in control rabbits. There was a good correlation between the subjective symptom of noisy breathing and the objective grading of tracheal stenosis. The tracheal allografts with suture materials appeared slightly pale and looked more like mucosa erosion than normal mucosa at four weeks post-surgery. Contact of trachea-to-transplanted grafts in PRP-treated rabbits was intimate with the surface of the transplanted region and showed high-density epithelialization. After 8 weeks, blood vessels were observed in the transplanted graft in PRP-treated rabbits. Normal epithelium was present in grafts at 8 weeks after allotransplantation. No CD20+ cells were detected in grafts but a few CD3+ cells were observed under the epithelium. CONCLUSION The results of this study show that it is possible to perform tracheal reconstruction in rabbits treated with PRP after tracheal transplantation.

Abstract
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has emerged as a new treatment modality in regenerative plastic surgery and dermatology. PRP is a simple, cost-effective and feasible treatment option with high patient satisfaction for hair loss and can be regarded as a valuable adjuvant treatment modality for androgenic alopecia and other types of non-scarring alopecias. Authors have proposed a hair model termed "Golden anchorage with 'molecular locking' of ectodermal and mesenchymal components for survival and integrity of hair follicle (HF)" in this article. Golden anchorage comprises of bulge stem cells, ectodermal basement membrane and bulge portion of APM. PRP with its autologous supply of millions of growth factors works on 'Golden anchorage' along with keratinocytes (PDGF), dermal papilla (IGF and fibroblast growth factor), vasculature (VEGF and PDGF) and neural cells (Nerve Growth Factor) in a multipronged manner serving as an 'elixir' for hair growth and improving overall environment.

Abstract
Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a hair loss disorder affecting 80% of men and 50% of women throughout their lifetime. Therapies for AGA are limited and there is no cure. There is a high demand for hair restoration. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), a treatment modality shown to promote wound healing, has also been explored as a treatment for AGA. This literature review was conducted to assess the effectiveness of PRP treatment for AGA. Twelve studies conducted from 2011 to 2017 were evaluated and summarized by study characteristics, mode of preparation, and treatment protocols. A total of 295 subjects were given PRP or control treatment in these studies, and evaluated for terminal hair density, hair quality, anagen/telogen hair ratio, keratinocyte proliferation, blood vessel density, etc. Some studies also provided subject self-assessment reports. Most of the studies reviewed showed effectiveness of PRP in increasing terminal hair density/diameter. Additional investigations are needed to determine the optimal treatment regimen for high efficacy of PRP in AGA.

Abstract
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a solution derived from whole blood that is enriched in the platelet fraction. Platelets serve as a reservoir of growth factors and cytokines. When platelets are activated in vivo, signaling molecules are released into the immediate microenvironment and activate receptors for various pathways. Historically, PRP has been applied to wound beds to promote healing of complex wounds. Over the last decade, it has served as a valuable therapeutic tool in various specialties such as maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery, orthopedics and sports medicine. Only recently has PRP been utilized for dermatologic purposes, more specifically, for the treatment of male and female pattern hair loss. In this review, we discuss molecular and cellular pathways upregulated by PRP important in hair folliculogenesis, and examine clinical evidence from all previously published studies involving the use of PRP for pattern hair loss.
