Abstract
BACKGROUND Children who undergo painful experiences such as traumatic dental injury (TDI) during their early years are more likely to be at an increased risk of developing dental fear and anxiety (DFA). The purpose of this study was to identify potential risk factors for DFA of these children. METHODS The study participants were 220 parents/caregivers and their children who experienced TDI. Their socio-demographic backgrounds were investigated with the modified WHO Oral Health Questionnaire for Children that included questions about parents' knowledge and attitudes, while the DFA level was determined using the Children's Fear Survey Schedule-Dental Subscale (CFSS-DS) and the Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (OHI-S Index) was used to assess oral hygiene status. RESULTS The confirmed risk factors are parental knowledge, female gender, and degree of oral hygiene and pain in the last three months, while age, type of TDI, presence of soft-tissue injury, and number of subjective complaints were not confirmed. The overall model predicted approximately 54% of variance in DFA, R2 = 0.545, F (4.215) = 64.28 p < 0.001. CONCLUSIONS These findings emphasise the importance of addressing pain management, improving oral hygiene, and enhancing parental knowledge to mitigate DFA in children with TDIs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIMS Traumatic dental injuries have different effects on children and their parents, depending on the type of trauma and whether it is in primary or permanent teeth. Parents do not always seek immediate intervention for their children after each traumatic dental injury unless accompanied by conditions such as pain or bleeding that will increase emotional stress. The aim of this study was to evaluate the emotional status of parents and parents' attitudes toward urgent intervention for different traumatic dental injuries in both primary and permanent teeth. MATERIAL AND METHODS A questionnaire consisting of two parts was designed with a reliability coefficient of 0.87 according to the results of a pilot study. The questionnaire was sent to parents as a Google Form via online communication methods such as WhatsApp and e-mail. The first part included questions about the demographic data of the parents and children, and the second part consisted of images of traumatic dental injuries of primary and permanent teeth with questions to evaluate the emotional state of the parents and awareness of the necessity for urgent intervention. The Visual Analog Scale (VAS) was used to evaluate the emotional state, and "Absolutely yes;" "Yes;" "I don't have an idea;" "No;" and "Absolutely no" statements were used to evaluate parents' attitudes about urgent intervention. Categorical variables were shown as numbers and percentages and analyzed with Pearson chi-square. Statistical significance was evaluated for p < .05, and correlations between variables were calculated with Pearson correlation. RESULTS The survey was completed by 845 parents. All traumatic injuries except extrusion (p = .202; p ≥ .05) had statistically different VAS scores for primary and permanent teeth (p < .05). Parents' attitudes for urgent intervention were statistically significant for all traumatic injuries (p < .05) except 4-mm intrusion (p = .062; p ≥ .05), alveolar fracture (p = .282; p ≥ .05), complicated crown fracture (p = .136; p ≥ .05), and non-traumatized healthy teeth (p = .110; p ≥ .05). CONCLUSIONS Traumatic dental injuries with excessive bleeding or tissue loss affect the emotional status of parents more than simple injuries, and they prefer to refer to dentists immediately. Parents responded with higher VAS scores and stronger desires for urgent intervention for permanent teeth injuries compared with primary teeth injuries which shows that parents still do not care about primary teeth as much as permanent teeth.

Abstract
Background Dental trauma is a common problem in children, which mostly occurs at school. Traumatic dental injuries often cause unpleasant experiences for children, and immediate and appropriate measures are needed. Its prognosis depends on immediate posttraumatic measures, and schoolteachers can play a key role in the treatment of children. The current study aimed to investigate teachers' knowledge about dental injuries in primary school children in the city of Isfahan. Materials and Methods Following a cross-sectional design, the current study was conducted on 248 elementary school teachers who were selected using the simple two-stage random cluster. Then the teachers' knowledge was measured based on a four-choice questionnaire consisted of two parts. According to this questionnaire, teachers were divided into five categories based on their knowledge score which was consist of strongly high knowledge, high knowledge, average knowledge, low awareness, and strongly low knowledge. Data were analyzed using the Spearman correlation coefficient and independent t-test. Statistical significance was considered when P < 0.05. Results The total knowledge score of teachers was 45.9%. About 61% of the teachers had a history of exposure to dental injuries. Furthermore, 49.6% of them believed milk was the best environment to keep the avulsed teeth. There was no significant association between teachers' knowledge and education level, history of previous trauma, or participation in a training course, but there was a direct association between teachers' knowledge and their work experience (P < 0.05). Female teachers' knowledge score was significantly higher than their male counterparts (P < 0.001). Conclusion Participants had a moderate level of knowledge about the management of dental traumas. Hence, it is suggested to develop educational programs to increase teachers' awareness about this issue.

Abstract
Objective:
One of the most common dental injuries is dental avulsion. This study, conducted in the western region of Saudi Arabia, aimed to evaluate parent’s knowledge and attitudes regarding the emergency management of avulsed permanent and deciduous teeth in children.
Methods:
A cross-sectional study was conducted among 393 parents recruited from six dental clinics and hospitals in Makkah and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The data were collected with a self-administered questionnaire that assesses the level of knowledge for managing deciduous and permanent avulsed teeth.
Results:
The total score for correct answers about managing permanent avulsed teeth had a mean of 4.77 and a standard deviation of 2.14 (out of 10 questions). With a permanent avulsed tooth, 35.37% were aware of dental reimplanting, 27.7% identified milk as an appropriate medium, and 57.5% would seek professional help immediately after dental trauma. Females and participants with a bachelor’s or higher degree had significantly higher levels of knowledge than males and participants with a high school or lower education. There were 28.5% of respondents who had a previous history of dental trauma for a child. A total of 62.1% knew that there is a difference in managing deciduous versus permanent teeth, but only 40.7% knew the proper management for deciduous avulsed teeth. Previous history of child dental avulsion was not found to be associated with more knowledge on managing avulsed deciduous or permanent teeth.
Conclusion:
Parents in the western region of Saudi Arabia have inadequate levels of knowledge to manage deciduous and permanent tooth avulsion. More efforts should be applied for conducting promotional health campaigns aimed at improving parents’ knowledge.

Abstract
Objective To assess the level of parents knowledge about the emergency management of tooth avulsion in Eastern Province and Riyadh. Methods A cross-sectional study was carried out by means of a questionnaire-based internet survey in which 1201 parents from Eastern Province and Riyadh participated. The questionnaire contained 10 closed-ended questions and was used to assess the knowledge of parents about the emergency management of avulsed teeth in Eastern Province and Riyadh. Chi-square test was used for data analysis. Results In response to closed-ended questions, the statistically significant result was obtained for the history of child dental trauma in which 35% (P=0.04) of parents reported history of dental trauma in their children. These parents were belong to Eastern province (51%) and Riyadh (49%). Furthermore, only 31.3% of the parents were aware of possible storage media for transportation of avulsed tooth while 68.7% (49.5% in Eastern Province and 50.5% in Riyadh) were unaware (P=0.02) of it. Conclusion That the majority of the parents were unaware of emergency management for tooth avulsion in two densely populated regions of Saudi Arabia. Education of parents should be initiated at a national level.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM Dental trauma is a common public health issue that can be associated with high costs and lifelong treatment. Children and parents should have the correct information regarding its management to reduce the potential long-term sequelae. Understanding their information seeking behaviour is therefore important to ensure that they are able to access, understand and retain the relevant information. The aim of this study was to investigate (a) the different ways that patients undertaking treatment for dental trauma, and their parents, look for relevant information, (b) their information needs, and (c) their preferred format of information. MATERIAL AND METHODS This was a two-phase study: Phase I involved in-depth interviews with 10 patients who were currently undergoing treatment for dental trauma, and 11 parents. In phase II, the themes and sub-themes identified from the interviews were used to develop patient and parent questionnaires, which were distributed to all trauma patients and parents who fulfilled the inclusion criteria and who were attending the dental clinics from March to May 2014. RESULTS Patients and parents had different concerns immediately following the trauma, during treatment and in the long term, and they wanted different forms of information to answer their concerns. Reliability was the main issue about trusting the information available in the Internet, social media and other online sources. Therefore, patients preferred to obtain information verbally from their dentist, while parents preferred written information. CONCLUSION Patients and parents have different information needs, and these also vary at different stages of treatment. It is therefore important to customize the way information is provided for each group accordingly.

Abstract
Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the knowledge of parents visiting a specialized dental center in Ajman on permanent tooth avulsion and the required first aid procedure to achieve better prognoses. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Ajman Emirate, UAE. Three hundred eighty-eight parents from three nationalities (Emirati, Egyptian and Indian) residing in UAE answered a constructed questionnaire that included demographic information related to the participants and questions related to permanent tooth avulsion and the required first steps for its management. Results: Study findings reflect deficiencies in the following areas. Of the 388 parents, (236, 60.8%) had poor knowledge about permanent tooth avulsion. Parents who had previous knowledge obtained information from unsupported sources, such as friends (145, 37.4%). Out of 388 parents, (324, and 83.5%) would not replant the tooth. Finally, the majority of the participants did not know the proper media to store the avulsed permanent tooth with one-third of parents choosing cotton or water (142, 36.6%). Conclusion: This study showed a lack of knowledge regarding permanent tooth avulsion among parents from the major nationalities residing in UAE. However, the respondents represent major differences regarding related to knowledge, replant, and storage of avulsed permanent teeth.

Abstract
Background Dental trauma is one of the most commonly encountered dental emergencies. The prognosis is determined by the appropriate intervention and immediate management of the traumatized teeth. Thus, public awareness is a leading determinant of treatment success. The purpose of this study was to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and awareness of Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah residents regarding the management of dental trauma. Methods This cross-sectional observational study was conducted between December 2016 and January 2018. A two-part self-administered questionnaire comprising 13 closed-ended questions was used. Part one contained questions to elicit demographic data that included information related to the participants' sources of dental trauma. Part two assessed their knowledge and attitudes regarding the most common types of dental trauma. The data were analyzed with IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 22.0 software. Results A total of 598 participants were included in this study. The results indicated that 64% of the participants knew where to go to receive treatment for dental trauma, and 74% were aware of the differences in the management of the primary and permanent teeth after trauma. A majority (83%) did not have any information about these issues; however, 83% were interested in learning about the appropriate management of dental trauma. Conclusion The study participants were found to have low levels of knowledge. A majority had never received information about the management of dental trauma or avulsed teeth. Education programs are necessary for promoting positive attitudes by increasing the knowledge about dental trauma management.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the knowledge of Polish parents concerning traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) and their management in children and to assess the influence of TDI experience on parents' knowledge. METHODS A questionnaire study conducted from May 2014 to February 2015 involved 741 randomly selected individual parents of children aged 1-17 receiving treatment at the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the Medical University of Warsaw. The questionnaire consisted of 28 questions concerning TDI management. RESULTS The study included 600 questionnaires subjected to statistical analysis using a χ2 independence test and Spearman's rank correlation (p < .05). Results show that 68% of parents have never received information about TDI management. As many as 80.5% were unaware of the possibility of immediate replantation of an avulsed tooth; over 60% would not be capable of choosing a suitable transport medium for such a tooth. Over 12% of TDI-experienced parents were unaware of a suitable transport medium for an avulsed tooth. Three times as many inexperienced parents as parents with TDI experience would place an avulsed tooth in saline solution. The independence test presented a strong correlation between parents' education and their knowledge about TDI management. As many as 80% of parents assessed their knowledge about TDI as inadequate. CONCLUSIONS It appears necessary to introduce programmes for parents to raise their level of awareness concerning this topic.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge of first aid measures for a permanent tooth avulsion among parents in Kuwait and to assess the effect of different sociodemographic characteristics. MATERIALS AND METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted among 554 parents who visited 5 dental specialty centers in Kuwait. Parent sociodemographic data and responses to avulsion management questions were collected through a self-administered questionnaire. Descriptive and binary logistic regression analyses were used for data analysis. RESULTS In the 554 responses from patients, gaps were identified in the following areas: replantation (199, 35.9%), cleaning of the tooth (182, 32.9%), and transport media (84, 15.2%). Most parents demonstrated satisfactory knowledge levels regarding the urgency to seek professional help (391, 70.6%) and the first place of contact after the injury (525, 94.8%). Having previous information on emergency management of dental avulsion was a significant predictor of good knowledge (OR 2.138, 95% CI 1.347-3.395, p = 0.001). Of the 544 parents, 99 (17.8%) had received information on dental avulsion management: 30 (30.3%) from the Internet, 19 (19.2%) from books, 12 (12.1%) from television, 6 (6%) from smart phone applications, 2 (2%) from newspapers, and 30 (30.3%) from other sources. CONCLUSION In this study, parents in Kuwait did not have adequate knowledge of emergency management for dental avulsion. Future educational campaigns on dental avulsion are urgently needed to educate parents.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Dental avulsion is a commonly reported traumatic injury causing pain, aesthetic, functional, psychological and mental impairment. Since parents are in the immediate vicinity of children in such situations, their knowledge regarding the same is of great importance. AIM The aim of present study was to assess the level of parental knowledge and their attitude towards dental avulsion and its emergency management. MATERIALS AND METHODS A 10-stemmed questionnaire was prepared for this study which was modified form of questionnaire used by Raphael and Gregory. The questionnaire consisted of two parts and was provided in both English and Hindi languages. Parents had to mark one option provided to them in multiple choice questions, which they found to be right. A written consent according to ethical guidelines was taken by all the participants before filling up the questionnaire. The survey consisted of 550 parents who accompanied their children aged between 6 to 13 years in the Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Peoples Dental Academy, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. Chi- square test was applied to evaluate the associations in this study. RESULTS Statistically it was observed that 34.5% of male participants exhibited more knowledge regarding the necessity of reimplantation of avulsed tooth in comparison to female participants. Also parents with higher educational background have showed positive response toward knowledge and attitude of emergency treatment of avulsed permanent tooth. About 25.6% of higher secondary level, 20.9% of undergraduate level, 10.9% of elementary school level and 0.4% of illiterate participants responded that reimplantation of avulsed permanent tooth is possible. CONCLUSION It was concluded from the study that regardless of the age, education level or other factors, parental knowledge of tooth avulsion management was found to be very low in our society. Parents who participated in this study reported having insufficient knowledge about dental trauma and unskilled to provide emergency care to their child.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Dental trauma can overtake dental caries and periodontal disease as the most significant threat to dental health among young people. The prognosis of traumatized teeth depends on prompt and appropriate treatment. The role of school teachers in the prevention of traumatic dental injuries is a topic that has received a great deal of attention in recent years. However, studies conducted in different regions of the world have demonstrated that teachers and other lay people's knowledge about traumatic dental injuries is inadequate and their behavior does not contribute to reduce the sequelae. AIM The purpose of this study was to evaluate the knowledge of school teachers about dental trauma and its management in Kannur district. MATERIALS AND METHODS The survey was conducted under the Department of Paedodontics and Preventive Dentistry; Kannur Dental College among 303 school teachers randomly selected from 16 schools. Four schools were selected from 16 schools using stratified cluster sampling technique. A cross sectional study design was used. A stratified cluster sampling method was done to select the study subjects. The nature and purpose of the study was first explained to the teachers in local language. Following this the printed questionnaire was distributed to school teachers. The questionnaire was prepared based on the needs of the study after referring similar questionnaires used in studies conducted in different parts of the world. RESULTS A statistically significant association was found between the teacher's knowledge regarding trauma and their teaching experience. Out of the total school teachers who participated in the study, 90.1% responded correctly that the teeth most frequently affected by traumatic accidents are the upper front teeth. Nearly 23.4% responded correctly regarding management of traumatic tooth fracture. Almost 46.5% had correct knowledge regarding the reimplantation of avulsed permanent teeth. Only 14.2% responded correctly to the proper storage medium for avulsed teeth. CONCLUSION It was concluded from the study that among the school teachers surveyed there was significantly very low knowledge of emergency management of dental trauma.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Traumatic dental injuries are one of the commonly encountered dental emergencies. Missing anterior tooth in children due to any injury can be a source of considerable physical and psychological discomfort for the child. The prognosis of some dental injuries depends to a great extent on parents' knowledge of correct and prompt emergency measures. AIM The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to assess the knowledge, attitude and awareness level of parents regarding the emergency management of dental trauma and to find out the relation of the responses to social variables. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 2000 parents were surveyed over a period of three months using a pretested close ended questionnaire prepared in English, Hindi as well as in the regional language which was divided into three parts: Part 1 contained questions on personal information, Part 2 on an imaginary case of trauma to assess their knowledge regarding trauma management and Part 3 related to their attitude towards dental trauma management education. The data was statistically analysed using descriptive and chi-square statistics. RESULTS The overall knowledge of parents regarding emergency management of trauma was not satisfactory. Although most of the people were in favour of taking professional consultation for emergency management of trauma but most of them were unaware of the steps that need to be taken on their part so as to minimize complications and improve prognosis. CONCLUSION Educational campaigns are the need of the day to increase the knowledge of parents regarding emergency management of dental trauma.

Abstract
Dental trauma has always been a common problem in dental health while mentally challenged children are more susceptible to it. This interventional study was conducted to evaluate the knowledge of trainers of mentally challenged children care centers about the management of dental trauma, and participants voluntarily took part in the study. A questionnaire containing demographic questions, and 12 questions related to the knowledge of trainers about the emergency management of avulsed teeth were designed. Each correct answer gave one score, and eventually, teachers who had correctly answered between 0 to 6 questions were considered to have limited real knowledge about the issue (from 7 to 9 medium, and from 10 to 12). In the second phase, an educational intervention was done to enhance the knowledge of trainers by distributing brochures in care centers. Finally, data were analyzed by Chi-square test. In this study, almost all participants were females (97%). Results illustrated that more experienced trainers and elder ones were relatively more knowledgeable than their younger and less experienced co-workers. Also, teachers working in private care centers had more knowledge than those working in the public sector. However, the knowledge about the management of dental traumas was unsatisfactory at first, yet it was hugely promoted after the educational intervention was carried out, which indicated the importance of conducting other educational interventions for the improvement of the management of dental traumas.
