Facial bone osteomas are uncommon, with only a few cases reported in the literature. Osteomas are benign neoplasms that are composed of well-differentiated, mature bones. There are three types of osteomas: central osteomas that develop from the endosteum, peripheral osteomas (PO) that develop from the periosteum, and extra-skeletal soft tissue osteomas that develop from the muscle. Both central and peripheral osteomas of the facial bones have been described. Peripheral osteomas have been reported in the frontal, ethmoid, and maxillary sinuses, but they are uncommon in the jawbone. It occurs at a younger age but is most prevalent in the sixth decade, with a female-to-male ratio of 1:2. The purpose of this case report was to examine the clinical manifestation and management protocol of such lesions using electrocautery.

Cancellous osteoma of maxilla: A rare case report

Osteoma is a slow growing benign tumor result from either cancellous or compact bone proliferation. Osteoma of the jaws may arise from the surface of the bone as a sessile mass located either peripherally or endosteally. This paper presents a rare case report of peripheral cancellous osteoma, involving the buccal cortical plate and alveolar process of the right maxilla of a 37-year-old female patient.

Peripheral osteoma of the hard palate: a rare case report and literature review

Osteomas are benign osteogenic tumors that are composed of cancellous or compact bone. They are usually sessile tumours composed of dense sclerotic, well-formed bone projecting out from the cortical surface. They commonly occur in skull and facial bones, however, excluding the maxillary sinuses, the maxilla is a rare site for osteomas. Therefore, we aim to present a case of maxillary osteoma in a 19-year-old male patient and to provide an overview of current literature on the diagnostic options and treatment modalities. To best of our knowledge, in the English literature, this is the seventh reported case of maxillary osteoma which is located on the hard palate.

Solitary peripheral osteomas of the jaws

Osteoma is a benign osteogenic tumor composed of cancellous or compact bone, classified as peripheral, central, or extraskeletal. Peripheral osteomas are uncommon. Excluding the maxillary sinuses, the maxilla is a rare site for osteomas. The purpose of this report was to describe clinicopathological and radiological features of two peripheral osteomas occurring in the jaws, one located in the mandible and another in the edentulous maxillary alveolar ridge. The tumors were asymptomatic and were fully excised without any complications or recurrence. The lesions were submitted to histopathological analysis and diagnosed as peripheral osteoma, compact type.
