Abstract
Background Understanding the correlation between temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) parameters and various occlusal features can play a significant role in diagnosing and treating occlusal problems and their potential consequences on TMD. Objectives To investigate the relationship of occlusal features and some of the TMD parameters. Study Design and Sampling. The current cross-sectional study was conducted on 200 TMD patients seeking dental treatment at different dental centers in Baghdad city, aged 18-35 years. All participants underwent assessment for occlusal features, which were molar and canine classifications, overjet, posterior buccal or lingual crossbites, and overbites, and TMD parameters (muscle pain, TMJ pain, and clicking) using the Chi-square test for statistical analysis. Results Regarding molar classification, there were strong positive correlations between subjects with TMD and having different molar classifications (class I, II, and III) bilaterally or unilaterally; furthermore, there were strong positive correlations between subjects with TMD and having different canine classifications. Moreover, there were significant correlations between subjects with increased, normal, or decreased overjet and the TMD parameters. In addition, there were weak positive correlations between TMD occurrence and buccal or lingual posterior crossbite. On the other hand, there were significant correlations between subjects with a decreased overbite and the presence of TMD parameters. Conclusion TMD had a multifactorial background rather than dependability on a specific molar or canine classification type. There was also a correlation between overjet and TMD muscle pain, while decreased overbite was correlated to muscle and TMJ pain. Conversely, there is no vital correlation between posterior buccal or lingual crossbite occurrence and TMD parameters.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the role of depression in the development of TMD groups. METHODS This systematic review with meta-analysis compared the prevalence and scores of depression between TMD groups and controls. RESULTS The results showed that depression was a significant risk factor in the development of RDC/TMD axis I muscle disorders (group I) and arthralgia/osteoarthritis/osteoarthrosis (group III), and non-significant for disc displacements (group II). Severe depression had almost four times the risk of developing TMD as compared to moderate depression. CONCLUSION These findings suggest that addressing psychological factors in general, and depression in particular, in the managemenof TMD is crucial, especially in those TMD groups with higher pain levels (I and III), and the TMD pain reduction is crucial in reducing depression levels.

Abstract
Today, with rapid advances in technology, computer-based studies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) approaches are finding their place in every field, especially in the medical sector, where they attract great attention. The Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) stands as the most intricate joint within the human body, and diseases related to this joint are quite common. In this paper, we reviewed studies that utilize AI-based algorithms and computer-aided programs for investigating TMJ and TMJ-related diseases. We conducted a literature search on Google Scholar, Web of Science, and PubMed without any time constraints and exclusively selected English articles. Moreover, we examined the references to papers directly related to the topic matter. As a consequence of the survey, a total of 66 articles within the defined scope were assessed. These selected papers were distributed across various areas, with 11 focusing on segmentation, 3 on Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA), 10 on TMJ Osteoarthritis (OA), 21 on Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMD), 6 on decision support systems, 10 reviews, and 5 on sound studies. The observed trend indicates a growing interest in artificial intelligence algorithms, suggesting that the number of studies in this field will likely continue to expand in the future.

Abstract
PURPOSE Various oral rehabilitation approaches are available for severely worn dentition. However, evidence-based guidelines for permanent treatment are limited. This review aims to investigate clinical observational findings and compare in-vitro outcomes of thin and ultrathin occlusal veneers using different materials and approaches. METHODS An electronic search of online databases, such as PubMed (MEDLINE), BioMed Central (BMC), Cochrane, and Scopus, was performed for the 2009 - Jun 2021 period, following the PRISMA 2020 criteria. The reports sought for retrieval were all the articles evaluating the clinical outcomes of permanent full-mouth rehabilitation, and all in-vitro records that investigated and compared fracture strength, survival rate, and modes of failure of ultrathin (0.3 - 0.6 mm), thin (0.5 - 0.8 mm), and thick (0.8-1.5 mm) occlusal veneer restorations, with regard to the available indirect restorative materials. The Newcastle Ottawa risk of bias criteria was used to judge the clinical studies and a modified consort statement was used for the evaluation of in-vitro studies. The data of the included studies were extracted and grouped based on the similarity of the outcomes and study protocols. Data heterogeneity determined the qualitative and quantitative grouping of the results. RESULTS Two clinical and 17 in-vitro studies were included. Data exhibited heterogeneity within the materials, variables, testing protocols and observation periods. Therefore, only qualitative synthesis of the results was feasible. Clinically used 1 mm lithium disilicate overlays and ultrathin one-step no-prep polymer infiltrated ceramic network (PICN) occlusal veneers exhibited very high success and survival rates. The analysis of in-vitro studies exhibited variable survival rates and fracture load values, based on materials, thickness, and restorative approaches used. CONCLUSIONS Within the limitations of this systematic review, it can be concluded that the clinical outcomes of thin and ultrathin occlusal veneers/overlays are auspicious. In-vitro experimental results support the usage of the thin and ultrathin occlusal veneers.

Abstract
The aim of this research was to analyze the facial class, presence of malocclusion, and the mandibular plane and to relate this to the mandibular condyle position. A cross-sectional study in subjects under analysis for orthognathic surgery was done. The mandibular plane, the gonial angle, and the molar class were included to compare the coronal and sagittal position of the condyle and the joint space observed in the CBCT. The measurements were obtained by the same observer at an interval of two weeks. In addition, the Spearman test was performed to determine the correlation using a p value < 0.05 to observe any significant differences. Eighty-nine male and female subjects (18 to 58 years old, 24.6 ± 10.5) were included. In the coronal section, subjects with CIII had a greater mediolateral distance (MLD, p = 0.0001) and greater vertical distance (SID, p = 0.0001) than subjects with CII. In terms of the skeletal class and the mandibular plane, it was observed that subjects in the CII group had a greater mandibular angle (open angle) (p = 0.04) than the CII group and was related to the anterior position of the condyle. The most anterior condylar position was observed in the CII group (p = 0.03), whereas a posterior condylar position was significant in CIII subjects (p = 0.03). We can conclude that the sagittal position of the TMJ was related to the mandibular plane and the skeletal class showing a higher mandibular angle and most anterior position of the condyle in CII subjects and a lower mandibular angle and most posterior position of the condyle in CIII subjects. The implications for surgical treatment have to be considered.

Abstract
Clinical problems of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and the masticatory musculature are both included in the term temporomandibular disorder (TMD). The purpose of the present study was to examine the pathology of the joints of patients diagnosed with TMD utilizing the dedicated Piper MRI-based classification, and to link these pathologies with various symptoms while considering their severity. In total, 64 patients with clinical TMD were examined. Symptoms were recorded using a questionnaire. The clinical examination included diagnosing the occlusion in centric relation, which was followed by a standardized MRI. It was confirmed that, although they occurred in a high percentage in all classes, muscle pain and occlusal interference are not indicators of TMJ damage. The results indicate that the progressive degradation of the TMJ, represented by qualification to the higher Piper classes, is associated with an increase in TMJ pain only up to a certain stage. For the highest Piper classes, the joint pain occurs in a smaller percentage of patients, but sounds are more frequent.

Abstract
Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are a group of diseases in the oral and maxillofacial region that can manifest as acute or chronic persistent pain, affecting millions of people worldwide. Although hundreds of studies have explored mechanisms and treatments underlying TMD, multiple pathogenic factors and diverse clinical manifestations make it still poorly managed. Appropriate animal models are helpful to study the pathogenesis of TMD and explore effective treatment measures. At present, due to the high cost of obtaining large animals, rodents and rabbits are often used to prepare TMD animal models. Over the past decade, various animal models have been intensively developed to understand neurobiological and molecular mechanisms of TMD, and seek effective treatments. Although these models cannot carry out all clinical features, they are valuable in revealing the mechanisms of TMD and creating curative access. Currently, there are multitudinous animal models of TMD research. They can be constructed in different means and summarized into four ways according to the various causes and symptoms, including chemical induction (intra-articular injection of ovalbumin, collagenase, formalin, vascular endothelial growth factor, intramuscular injection of complete Freund’s adjuvant, etc.), mechanical stress stimulation (passive mouth opening, change of chewing load), surgical operation (partial disc resection, joint disc perforation) and psychological stress induction. Here, we summarize and discuss different approaches of animal models for determining neurophysiological and mechanical mechanisms of TMD and assess their advantages and limitations, respectively.

Abstract
Objectives:
The temporomandibular joints (TMJs) play a fundamental role in mastication, deglutition, speech, and even respiration. Thus, temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) can affect the quality of life, especially if they become chronic. Considering the controversy regarding the etiology of the TMDs, this study aimed to assess the relationship of TMDs with dental malocclusion.
Materials and Methods:
Totally, 885 dentate patients between 18 years and 60 years with complete dental records and no condylar ankylosis, history of trauma, bruxism, clenching, or congenital TMJ anomalies participated in this study. Tenderness on palpation, clicking, crepitus, pain, deviation on mouth opening, open bite, deep bite, cross bite, and class of malocclusion (I, II or III) were recorded for all patients.
Results:
Of patients, 60.2% were males and 39.8% were females. Gender had no correlation with TMDs. Patients had a mean age of 34.8 years. Age had no correlation with TMDs. Of TMD symptoms, clicking had the highest frequency (23.3%) followed by deviation on mouth opening (10.6%), pain at the mouth opening (2.9%), tenderness on palpation (1.4%), trismus (1.2%), and crepitus (1.1%). Of patients, 76.7% were Class I, 13.8% were Class II, and 6.2% were Class III. Less than 2% of patients had deep bite, open bite, or cross bite.
Conclusion:
TMDs had a relatively high prevalence (35%) in our study population. Age, gender, and class of malocclusion had no correlation with TMDs; however, Class II malocclusion was slightly more prevalent among TMD patients, which needs to be taken into account by patients and orthodontists.
