Unusual giant prostatic urethral calculus

[Multiple stones of the prostatic urethra associated with anejaculation revealing spinal dysraphism such as tethered cord syndrome at the base of the spinal canal in a young man: about an exceptional case]

Spinal dysraphism (or spina bifida) is a neurological disorder representing the first cause of congenital urological disability. It has several clinical manifestations, vesicosphincteric and sexual disorders are frequent and rarely isolated, belonging to motor disorders, orthopedic, sensory, digestive or even cognitive impairments. Tethered cord syndrome at the base of the spinal canal is a complication of spinal dysraphism. This disorder is often detected in children, may be asymptomatic and found in adults. Bladder sphincter disorders are the main cause of morbi-mortality due to uronephrologic complications with a significant alteration in quality of life. This justifies specific management and multidisciplinary and strict monitoring. We here report an exceptional case of spinal dysraphism such as tethered cord syndrome at the base of the spinal canal found incidentally in an adult patient during an etiological assessment of lithiasis of the prostatic urethra associated with anejaculation .

Large prostatic stones with staghorn renal calculus in a 61-year-old man: an unusual presentation of uncommon disease

Prostatic parenchymal calculi are common in ageing men who are evaluated for benign prostatic hyperplasia or prostate cancer. Giant prostatic calculi are very rare, usually associated with local predisposing factors for urinary stasis and infections, and traditionally managed by open surgery. We present the first case of its kind to be associated with a concurrent staghorn nephrolithiasis, and removed successfully by endoscopic approach using an access sheath through the urethra.

Acute urinary retention in women due to urethral calculi: A rare case

We present a case of a 51-year-old woman with acute urinary retention caused by a urethral calculus. Urethral calculi in women are extremely rare and are usually formed in association with underlying genitourinary pathology. In this case, however, no pathology was detected via thorough urological evaluation. We discuss the pathogenesis, clinical presentation and treatment of urethral calculi. To our knowledge, this is the second reported case of a primary urethral calculus in a female with an anatomically normal urinary tract and the first in a middle-aged Caucasian female.
