Abstract
Root canal retreatment (Re-RCT) cases have shortcomings due to the ineffective removal of the root canal filling material, eventually leading to endodontic failure. This study aims to test the comparative efficacy of retreatment files in removing calcium silicate-based sealer and epoxy resin-based sealer. Thirty-two single-rooted teeth were decoronated at 15 mm and bio-mechanical preparation was performed. These samples were divided into two groups based on the sealer used - Angelus Bio-C ceramic sealer (Angelus, Londrina-PR, Brazil) and AH Plus sealer (Dentsply Sirona, North Carolina, US). Obturation was done and all the samples were stored in the incubator according to the respective setting time of the sealer. After this, the samples in each group were subdivided into two groups based on the retreatment files used, i.e., Neoendo (Orikam Healthcare India Pvt. Ltd., Haryana, India) and Dentsply (Dentsply Sirona, North Carolina, US) retreatment files. The specimens were then sectioned vertically into two halves and analyzed by cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). A one-way ANOVA F test was used for an intragroup comparison, whereas a post hoc Tukey test was used for an intergroup comparison. The Dentsply retreatment files were superior to the Neoendo retreatment files and the Bio-C ceramic sealer was left behind to a greater extent than the AH Plus sealer. Thus, Dentsply retreatment files were more efficient than Neoendo files and the removal of the Bio-C ceramic sealer was more difficult than the AH Plus sealer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the amount of apically extruded debris and to determine the remaining filling material on the root canal walls by microcomputed tomography (micro-CT), following the root canal retreatment of root canals filled with different obturation techniques (single cone technique, thermoplasticised injection technique) and the different root canal sealers [bioceramic-based, epoxy resin-based root canal sealer]. MATERIALS AND METHODS 60 single rooted human premolar teeth were prepared with the ProTaper Gold system (Dentsply Maillefer) up to the F4 file and the samples were divided into 4 groups according to obturation procedures: Single cone technique + AH Plus sealer(epoxy resin-based root canal sealer, Dentsply International Inc., York, PA, USA); Single cone technique + Sure-Seal Root(bioceramic-based root canal sealer, Sure Dent Corporation, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea); thermoplastic injection technique[Calamus Dual Obturation System(Dentsply-Tulsa Dental, Tulsa, OK, USA)] + AH Plus(Dentsply International Inc.); Sure-Seal Root(Sure Dent Corporation) + Calamus Dual Obturation System (Dentsply-Tulsa Dental). The teeth were inserted into preweighed Eppendorf tubes and retreatment was performed. The tubes were kept in an incubator at 37 °C for 14 days to obtain the dry debris weight. Following the removal of the root canal fillings, the samples were scanned with a micro-CT device to analyse the volume of filling residues. RESULTS Retreatment of samples obturated with epoxy-resin or bioceramic based root sealers combined with Calamus system resulted in higher amount of apical extrusion compared to their combination with single cone technique (p = 0.026 for Single cone technique + AH Plus sealer vs Calamus + AH Plus sealer and p = 0.005 for Single cone technique + Sure-Seal root sealer vs Calamus + Sure-Seal root sealer). The most debris was observed in the Calamus + Sure-Seal root sealer group, the least debris was observed in the Single cone technique + AH Plus sealer group. The percentage of residues was the highest in the Single cone technique + Sure-Seal root sealer and the lowest in the Calamus + AH Plus sealer group, but there were no significant differences between groups (p = 0.463). CONCLUSIONS No correlation was observed among the groups in terms of extruded debris and remnants inside the root canal. When combined with bioceramic based sealer, thermoplasticised injection technique did not affect the cleanliness of root canal walls; however, it increased its apical extrusion potential during retreatment. CLINICAL RELEVANCE The obturation method does not play a role in the removability of bioceramic based root canal sealer, however the use of bioceramic-based root canal sealers with cold obturation techniques may be beneficial in preventing apical extrusion.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This ex vivo study aimed to evaluate the influence of different filling techniques on the filling removal from oval root canals filled with bioceramic sealer. METHODS Thirty-six mandibular incisors with single oval canals were filled with bioceramic sealer following the techniques (n = 12): single-cone, modified McSpadden, or continuous wave of condensation, and scanned by micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). The filling was removed using the Clearsonic ultrasound tip and Reciproc system up to the R40 instrument, and the working time was recorded. The teeth were scanned again by micro-CT. Percentage of remnant volume (mm³) of the filling material, dentin thickness, and root canal transportation were measured. The data was analyzed using parametric and non-parametric tests with a significance level of 5%. RESULTS It took more time to remove the filling material using the continuous wave of condensation technique (p < 0.05), followed by the modified McSpadden and single-cone techniques. There was no difference (p > 0.05) when comparing the percentage of remaining filling material among the three groups, nor did it among the segments of each tooth. There was also no difference in the analysis of dentin thickness and transportation when comparing the groups (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The filling technique did not influence the amount of remaining filling material, dentin thickness, and transportation. The working time was longer with thermoplastic filling techniques. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Endodontic retreatment in teeth filled with bioceramic sealers increases with their use. Several techniques are used to fill the root canals, thus, it is important to know whether the filling technique influences the non-surgical endodontic retreatment.

Abstract
Objective The removal of the root canal sealer is an important factor in nonsurgical retreatment. The aim of this study was to compare the removal of AH Plus, Well Root ST, and AH Plus Bioceramic Sealer using Protaper Universal retreatment files. Methods The curved mesio-buccal canals of extracted mandibular molars were prepared with the Protaper Gold file system (up to F2). Specimens were randomly divided into 3 groups and filled with the single cone technique using AH Plus, Well-Root ST, and AH Plus Bioceramic Sealer, respectively. After two weeks, the root canal filling of all specimens was removed using Protaper Universal retreatment files. All specimens were scanned using micro-CT. The remaining volume of the root canal filling was recorded in total and the coronal, middle, and apical third of each specimen. Results Well-Root ST and AH Plus Bioceramic Sealer groups had a higher percentage of total remaining filling material than the AH Plus group (P<0.05). Conclusion This study has shown that the volume of remaining root canal filling was significantly higher in the samples filled with calcium silicate-based sealers.

Abstract
Aim To evaluate cleaning efficacy and debris extrusion of supplementary file systems XP Endo Finisher (XPEF) and XP Endo Finisher R (XPEFR) in endodontic retreatment. Materials and Methods Thirty single-rooted teeth with single canals were selected, canal preparation done till file #30 6% and obturation completed using lateral condensation technique with AH Plus sealer. The samples were stored at 37°C in a 100% humidity incubator for 7 days. The samples were distributed across the three groups according to the method of retreatment (n = 10): Group I: Neo Endo retreatment (NER) files, Group II: NER files + XPEF, and Group III: NER files + XPEFR. Removal of gutta percha using each file system according to the distributed groups was performed. The extruded debris was collected in an Eppendorf tube, dried in a hot air oven, and weighed. Teeth were sliced longitudinally using carborundum discs. Coronal, middle, and apical thirds were assessed for cleaning efficacy under a stereomicroscope. Results were tabulated and subjected to the statistical analysis using the Kruskal-Wallis H-test followed by post hoc turkey HSD test. All statistical tests were carried out at significance level P < 0.05. Results It was seen that Group II (NER files + XPEF) exhibited better cleaning efficacy than Group III (NER files + XPEFR), although the results were not statistically significant. Greater debris extrusion was seen with Group III when compared to Group II. Conclusion Supplementary files XPEF/XPEFR enhance the cleaning efficacy in endodontic retreatment, but the debris extrusion of XPEFR is more than XPEF.

Abstract
Aim The aim of this study was to compare the retreatability of NeoSEALER Flo obturated with warm vertical compaction (WVC) and single-cone (SC) techniques using two different retreatment systems. Materials and Methods Thirty-two root canals were shaped and obturated with NeoSEALER Flo either in an SC obturation technique or a WVC technique. Samples were retreated using ProTaper retreatment or EdgeFile XR retreatment system. The percentage of remaining debris after retreatment was analyzed under a scanning electron microscope using ImageJ software. The time taken to reach full working length (WL) and induce patency was recorded. Statistical Analysis Statistical analysis was performed using an unpaired t-test and a one-way analysis of variance test. Results The percentage of remaining debris after retreatment was significantly higher in the SC technique than in the WVC technique, regardless of the retreatment system used. EdgeFile XR system removed more filling material than the ProTaper retreatment system, regardless of the obturation technique. The apical region showed significantly higher remaining debris than other regions in all groups. The WL and patency were achieved faster in the SC group, while in the WVC group, the EdgeFile XR system was faster. Conclusions The WVC technique showed better retrieval of the filling material; however, a longer time was taken for retreatment. EdgeFile XR system performed better in removing filling materials from inside the canals.

Abstract
Background The study aimed to compare the amount of extrusion, the time taken to achieve apical patency and duration for removing filling material during the retreatment of teeth filled with NeoMTA 2® (Avalon Biomed, Houston, TX, USA), a calcium silicate hydraulic cement and AHPlus™ (Denstsply, Konstanz, Germany), a resin-based cement, using continuous rotation and asymmetric reciprocating rotation instruments. Material and Methods 60 monoradicular human teeth were selected and instrumented with Race #35.06 (FKG Dentaire, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland). The teeth were randomly assigned to two groups based on the cement used for filling (n = 30 each) AHPlus™ and NeoMTA 2®. Both groups were obturated with gutta-percha, using the lateral condensation technique. During non-surgical retreatments, each group was further divided into two subgroups: D-Race (FKG) and Reciproc (VDW, Munich, Germany) (n = 15 each). The total time to achieve apical patency and complete the retreatment were recorded. Extruded debris were collected and weighted. Student t-tests were employed for mean comparisons to assess significant differences between variables. Results No statistically significant differences were found in terms of type of cement and apical extrusion. Regarding the rotation system, using the Reciproc system resulted in longer time to achieve patency and retreatment times compared to D-Race system, with statistically significant differences (P< 0.05). Conclusions All systems used in retreatment led to apical extrusion. Apical patency was achieved in all cases. Key words:D-Race, Reciproc, calcium silicate-based cement, root canal retreatment.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION To develop a calcium silicate (CaSi)-based cement containing dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and cement deliver device for new root canal filling technique, and to assess the flow behavior, leakage, and root canal filling quality of CaSi containing DMSO. METHODS CaSi containing DMSO (CSC-DMSO) and CaSi containing PEG (CSC-PEG) were prepared, and the flow characteristics of both cements were compared in gypsum and resin channels using a high-speed camera. Eight root canals were obturated by CSC-DMSO or CSC-PEG using a cement delivery device, and root canal filling quality was assessed in terms of filling length using periapical radiographs. The filling length was evaluated by 'apico-coronal extension,' measuring length in reference to apical constriction. Microleakage was measured for thirty human molars that were randomly filled with CSC-DMSO, CSC-PEG, or gutta-percha and AH plus. Preliminary obturation of CSC-DMSO with cement delivery device in human teeth was analyzed in terms of filling length and void, using periapical radiographs. Statistical analysis was performed with the Kruskal Wallis test for simulated root canal fillings and one-way ANOVA for leakage test. RESULTS The flow speed of CSC-DMSO reduced in gypsum channels compared to resin channels, but CSC-PEG did not exhibit significant differences in the channels. The median absolute value of apico-coronal extension was significantly lower in CSC-DMSO compared to CSC-PEG (p < 0.05). Microleakage did not statistically differ between the groups (p > 0.05). In the preliminary obturation, the mean apico-coronal extension of CSC-DMSO was -0.297 ± 0.724 mm, while CSC-PEG was not feasible due to excess apical extrusions. CONCLUSIONS CSC-DMSO could be considered as an alternative filling material for root canal obturation.

Abstract
AIM The aim of this present study was to compare the dislodgement resistance of calcium silicate-based sealer, zinc oxide sealer, and a new sealer combining both zinc oxide and calcium silicate-based sealer in vitro. MATERIALS AND METHODS 60 single-rooted human teeth were instrumented with F3 Protaper Gold. All endodontic canals were filled using gutta percha cones using the cold lateral condensation technique in combination using one of the mentioned sealers (n = 20 per group). The teeth were divided into three groups: group A consisted of Sealite® Ultra, group B consisted of K-Sealer®, and group C consisted of BioRoot® RC. After 2 months of incubation (37°C, 100% humidity) and after cutting out 2 mm from the most apical portion of the root apex, six slices of 1 mm thickness were generated. Mechanical dislodgement resistance was examined using a universal pressure-testing machine and the push-out bond strength (POBS) was calculated. Specimens were examined under 20× magnification to define the bond failure mode. Statistical analysis was executed using ANOVA, post hoc Turkey test for pairwise comparisons and Kruskal-Wallis tests. RESULTS The POBS of BioRoot® was significantly higher than the POBS of the two other sealers with a mean of 10.54 MPa ± 2.10 and 5.73 MPa ± 2.34, respectively (p < 0.001). Sealite® and K-Sealer® showed similar results in the median and coronal part. K-Sealer® revealed highest POBS compared with Sealite® in the apical part (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION The POBS of the zinc oxide and calcium silicate-based sealer was significantly lower compared with calcium silicate. Sealite® and K-Sealer® exhibited almost same results. BioRoot showed the highest POBS of all sealers. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The current study was needed to evaluate the bond strength of three different cements to dentinal walls, by evaluating their respective POBS in vitro. The findings of this study may provide guidance for the clinician in the selection of an adequate endodontic sealer that guarantees an enhanced adhesive seal between the Gutta-percha and the dentinal canal walls. Abstract
Introduction This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of two endodontic cleaning techniques, passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI) and the XP-endo Finisher R (XPR) system, in removing residual filling material during endodontic retreatment procedures. Materials and Methods Forty mandibular premolars with oval canals were divided into four groups based on the sealer used (AH-Plus or Bio-C Sealer) and the cleaning technique employed (PUI or XPR). To ensure uniformity of canal volume among groups, initial micro-CT scans were conducted. The canals were instrumented, filled, and then re-instrumented before undergoing either PUI or XPR cleaning techniques. Residual filling material volumes were assessed through micro-CT scans, and statistical analysis was performed using the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests. Results Following instrumentation, there was no significant difference in residual filling material volumes between AH-Plus and Bio-C Sealer groups (1.35 mm3and 1.02 mm3, respectively; P>0.05). However, after supplementary cleaning techniques, XPR-cleaned specimens exhibited significantly less residual material compared to PUI-cleaned specimens (0.01 mm3 and 0.29 mm3 for Bio-C Sealer, and 0.07 mm3 and. 0.30 mm3 for AH-Plus, P<0.05). Conclusion The XPR system was found to be more effective than PUI in removing residual filling material from Bio-C Sealer-filled root canals. This highlights its potential as a useful supplementary cleaning technique in endodontic retreatment procedures.

Abstract
Context Endodontic retreatment is the first line of treatment in cases of failed primary endodontic treatment. Although associated with challenges such as incomplete removal of obturating material, increased clinical time, and extrusion of apical debris, endodontic retreatment still has considerable success rate in the general population. Aims The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the efficacy of TruNatomy, ProTaper retreatment, and RaCe file systems to remove the obturating material, time taken to remove the obturating material, and apical extrusion of debris using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Settings and Design In vitro study. Subjects and Methods Forty-five moderately curved mesiobuccal roots of the mandibular molars were instrumented up to #25, 4% taper and obturated with bioceramic sealer and lateral compaction technique. Teeth were divided randomly into three groups (n = 15). Teeth were retreated with TruNatomy, ProTaper retreatment, and RaCe file systems, respectively. Preretreatment and postretreatment CBCT scans were recorded and percentage of obturating material removed was calculated. Time taken to remove the obturating material and apical extrusion of debris was noted. Statistical Analysis Used Descriptive statistics including percentage, mean, standard deviation, Tukey's post hoc test, Kruskal-Wallis test, and Mann-Whitney Post hoc test were used. Results The total time needed for the removal of obturating material was comparatively shorter in the RaCe group, followed by the ProTaper retreatment group and TruNatomy group (P < 0.001). TruNatomy files were significantly better in removing the obturating material than the ProTaper retreatment files (P = 0.04). Statically, no difference between RaCe and TruNatomy files was noted. Apically extruded debris was more in the TruNatomy group than in the RaCe and ProTaper retreatment groups (P = 0.01). Conclusions All tested endodontic files were effective in removal of obturating material, although none could completely remove the filling material and no system could completely eliminate apical extrusion.

Abstract
This study investigated retreatment of oval canals filled with gutta-percha and different sealers using WaveOne Gold (WOG). Single oval canals were prepared to size 30, 0.04 and obturated with gutta percha and AH Plus (AHP) or TotalFill bioceramic (TFBC) sealer. After 6-month incubation, the canals were retreated with WOG Primary (25, 0.07) under simulated body temperature, and the developed load and torque were simultaneously measured. The time and regaining the apical patency were checked. Micro-computed tomography scanning was performed to calculate the remaining obturating materials. An independent t-test and chi-square test were performed at a 95% confidence level. A shorter retreatment time was needed in TFBC than in AHP (P = 0.003). However, a higher maximum apical load was reported with AHP (P = 0.000). Meanwhile, comparable maximum coronal load and maximum torque values were observed. Apical patency was regained in all TFBC roots and only 75% of the AHP samples (P = 0.217). The remaining obturating materials were comparable in TFBC (13.02 ± 8.12%) and AHP (10.11 ± 8.46%) (P = 0.398). WOG was able to remove 89.89% and 86.98% of obturating materials in TFBC and AHP, respectively. The TFBC presented lower apical loads and faster retreatment compared to AHP.

Abstract
The objective of the present in vitro work was to investigate the effectiveness and time required for the removal of calcium silicate-based sealer using two rotary retreatment systems. Sixty extracted, single-canal, lower premolars were used. After obturation using the single-cone technique with calcium silicate-based sealer, samples were divided into four groups according to the technique of desobturation: Group 1 (G1): D-Race; Group 2 (G2): D-Race followed by the use of XP-Endo Finisher R; Group 3 (G3): Protaper Universal Retreatment; and Group 4 (G4): Protaper Universal Retreatment followed by the use of XP-Endo Finisher R. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images were used to calculate the remaining filling materials at the middle and apical thirds. Times required to perform each method were recorded. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and digital microscopy were used to evaluate the remaining filling materials. Data were statistically analyzed using the t-test and one way ANOVA on ranks tests. No statistically significant difference was found between G1 and G3 after CBCT observations (p > 0.05). Xp-Endo Finisher R significantly increased the ability to remove materials regardless of the initially used retreatment system (p < 0.05). Statistically significant longer time was found in G3 and G4 compared to G1 and G2, respectively (p < 0.05), to reach the full working length. No retreatment system was able to totally remove the calcium silicate-based sealer from the root canal at the middle and apical thirds (p > 0.05). Digital microscopy demonstrated that the residual materials were the remaining sealers on the canal walls. SEM showed the mineral depositions of calcium silicate materials onto the canal walls and into the dentinal tubules. However, that calcium silicate materials provide mineral deposition into the dentinal tubules might indicate that the traditional irrigants could not be sufficient to remove calcium silicate-based materials from the root canal, and other agents should be used to make retreatment considerably easier.

Abstract
This study assesses the retreatability of TotalFill bioceramic (TFBC) and AH Plus (AHP) sealers and their impact on retreatment force and torque. Twenty-six premolar teeth with single oval canals were instrumented, obturated using the matched gutta-percha cone technique with one of the tested sealers, and then temporized. After a 6-month incubation at 37 °C and 100% humidity, the canals were retreated with the XP Shaper system. During retreatment, the generated force and torque were measured. Micro-CT scanning was run before and after the retreatment procedure to analyze the remaining obturating materials in the canals. The apically directed maximum force in AHP was higher than that in TFBC. The coronally directed maximum force and the maximum torque were comparable between the groups. A higher amount of remaining obturating materials was found in the AHP compared to that in the TFBC. Based on these findings, endodontic sealer had an influence on retreatability, and the TFBC showed less remaining obturating materials and lower retreatment forces in the apical direction compared to the AHP in extracted teeth with oval canals.
