Abstract
Breast cancer is the most prevalent type of cancer, the fifth leading cause of cancer-related deaths, and the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women globally. Recent research has provided increasing support for the significance of phytochemicals, both dietary and non-dietary, particularly triterpenoids, in the mitigation and management of breast cancer. Recent studies showed that triterpenoids are promising agents in the treatment and inhibition of breast cancer achieved through the implementation of several molecular modes of action on breast cancer cells. This review discusses recent innovations in plant triterpenoids and their underlying mechanisms of action in combating breast cancer within the timeframe spanning from 2017 to 2023. The present work is an overview of different plant triterpenoids with significant inhibition on proliferation, migration, apoptosis resistance, tumor angiogenesis, or metastasis in various breast cancer cells. The anticancer impact of triterpenoids may be attributed to their antiproliferative activity interfering with angiogenesis and differentiation, regulation of apoptosis, DNA polymerase inhibition, change in signal transductions, and impeding metastasis. The present review focuses on several targets, mechanisms, and pathways associated with pentacyclic triterpenoids, which are responsible for their anticancer effects. We could conclude that natural triterpenoids are considered promising agents to conquer breast cancer.

Abstract
Since ancient time, Salvia L. species have been commonly used to treat colds, bronchitis, tuberculosis, heart diseases, and menstrual and digestive disorders in traditional medicine all around the world. They have been also used as tea and spice. Studies indicated that diterpenes and triterpenes isolated from Salvia species possess various pharmacological and biological effects such as anti-inflammatory, antiviral, cytotoxic, antioxidant, and hepatotoxic activities. Flavones were also shown to have antimicrobial, antioxidant, and cytotoxic potentials. Salvia extracts also exhibit anti-Alzheimer, antiseptic, cardiovascular, antihypertensive, and antituberculous effects. To investigate the effects of 63 secondary metabolites from Salvia species on cell viability and apoptosis, Salvia secondary metabolites including 25 phenolics, 4 fatty acids, 19 abietane diterpenoids, 12 triterpenoids, and three steroids were examined on healthy cell line (PDF), breast cancer (MCF-7), and colon cancer (HT-29) cell lines using MTT method. In addition, the effects of rosmarinic acid, 6,7-dehydroroyleanone, acetyl royleanone, ferruginol, carnosic acid, carnosol, cryptotanshinone, β-sitosterol, and ursolic acid on pro-apoptotic Bax and antiapoptotic Bcl-2 protein expression levels were investigated by Western Blot method. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: Phenolic compounds (apigenin, chrysin, and luteolin) and diterpenes (especially dihydrotanshinone I, carnosic acid, and carnosol), and almost all of the triterpenes exhibited high toxic effects on healthy cell line. Cytotoxic effects of cryptotanshinone, 12-hydroxy abieta-1,3,5(10),8,11,13-hexaene, 12-demethylmulticauline, 6,7-dehydroroyleanone, acetyl royleanone, ferruginol, ursolic acid, and 3-acetyl lupeol were relatively higher than their toxic effects. Acetyl royleanone, 6,7-dehydroroyleanone, carnosic acid, and cryptotanshinone were found to have anticancer potential based on their modulating effects on the expression levels of Bax and Bcl-2 proteins which play important roles in the regulation of apoptosis. The results of the present study showed that acetyl royleanone, cryptotanshinone, 6,7-dehydroroyleanone, carnosic acid, and cryptotanshinone have potential to be used in the pharmaceutical industry.

Abstract
Terpenes and terpenoids are the largest groups of plant secondary metabolites. However, unlike polyphenols, they are rarely associated with geroprotective properties. Here we evaluated the conformity of the biological effects of terpenoids with the criteria of geroprotectors, including primary criteria (lifespan-extending effects in model organisms, improvement of aging biomarkers, low toxicity, minimal adverse effects, improvement of the quality of life) and secondary criteria (evolutionarily conserved mechanisms of action, reproducibility of the effects on different models, prevention of age-associated diseases, increasing of stress-resistance). The number of substances that demonstrate the greatest compliance with both primary and secondary criteria of geroprotectors were found among different classes of terpenoids. Thus, terpenoids are an underestimated source of potential geroprotectors that can effectively influence the mechanisms of aging and age-related diseases.

Abstract
It is known that many edible mushrooms have important medicinal properties, including effects on different types of cancers. This is the first report regarding the neuroprotective, antimicrobial, antioxidative and anticancer activities of the acetone extract of edible mushroom Hygrophorus eburneus. Neuroprotective potential was evaluated by measuring the capacity of the extract to inhibit acetylcholinesterase. In this assay, the tested extract showed activity against acetylcholinesterase in a dose-dependent manner where the percentage of inhibition ranged from 13.19 to 46.44 %. The antimicrobial potential was determined by the microdilution method against five species of bacteria and eight species of fungi and the results of this method exhibited moderate antimicrobial activity of H. eburneus with MIC values ranging from 6.25 to 25 mg/mL. Antioxidant activity was evaluated by measuring the scavenging capacity of the tested sample on DPPH and superoxide anion radicals, by the reducing power assay and by measuring the amounts of total phenolics in extract. As a result of the study, H. eburneus extract showed a potent antioxidant activity (IC50 were 102.93 μg/mL for DPPH radical scavenging activity and 123.27 μg/mL for superoxide anion radicals scavenging) while absorbances for reducing power assay were from 0.0235 to 0.1161. The total phenolic content in the extract was 9.27 µg PE/mg. Finally, anticancer effects were evaluated by MTT test for cytotoxicity, acridine orange/ethidium bromide staining for detection of the type of cell death and wound healing assay for antimigratory effects on human colorectal cancer cell line (HCT-116) and human breast cancer cell line (MDA-MB-231). The results for cytotoxicity and apoptosis were measured after 24 and 72 h and for anti-migratory effect after 12 and 24 h. The tested H. eburneus mushroom extract expressed cell selectivity, with notable cytotoxic effects observed on HCT-116 cells, with a strong proapoptotic potential. The migration of HCT-116 cells was significantly inhibited, while MDA-MB-231 cells were less sensitive to the treatment. The results of this study revealed that the tested extract had relatively strong neuroprotective, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anticancer effects. It suggests that this mushroom can be proposed as a novel source of nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals.
