Abstract
BACKGROUND Anal lymphomas are extremely rare. There are no relevant descriptions in professional books, and there are only a few case reports in the literature. Here, we report a new case and review the literature to summarize the clinical and pathological features of anal lymphoma. METHODS We described a case of anal lymphoma confirmed by pathological diagnosis, then searched the PubMed database, and finally selected 12 reported cases to be included in the study. We described the clinical and pathological characteristics of the patients. RESULTS Thirteen patients with anal lymphoma were confirmed. Seven men and six women with a median age of 50. There were four cases of HIV- and EBV-infected patients. The size of the tumor was 1-13 cm, all of which were diagnosed as B-cell lymphoma, and 61.5% were diffuse large B-cell lymphomas. Among the 13 patients, eight received chemotherapy or immunochemotherapy, two received radiotherapy, one received chemotherapy combined with radiotherapy, one received surgery, and one gave up treatment. Three patients died, and only 2 of 10 surviving patients had complete remission. CONCLUSION Anal lymphoma is extremely rare. Patients with persistent abscess complicated with HIV or EBV infection should undergo pathological biopsy to exclude anal lymphoma.

Abstract
Patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) can present with a wide range of different acute and chronic pathologies. Anorectal conditions are particularly common in this unique patient population, including pathologies, such as proctitis, anorectal abscess, anorectal fistula, and anal squamous cell carcinoma. The radiologist plays a critical role in the assessment of these common forms of anorectal disease, as these conditions can present with various findings on imaging assessment. Pelvic CT, MRI, and FDG-PET/CT are among the most common modalities used for assessment of anorectal disease in the HIV patient population. Knowledge of the fundamental clinical and imaging findings associated with these pathologies in HIV patients is critical for radiologists.

Abstract
Plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) is a rare aggressive B-cell lymphoproliferative disorder that is strongly associated with immunodeficiency, most often with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection, and that mainly occurs in the oral cavity. Although some clinical features can lead to a diagnosis, PBL in an extraoral site is difficult to suspect clinically in a patient who is HIV negative. The small intestine as a site of PBL has also been described very rarely. We herein present a rare case of PBL of the small intestine in an 85-year-old HIV- and EBV-negative male.

Abstract
Plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) is an unusual subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma recently classified as a diffuse immunoblastic lymphoma with a plasma-cell immunophenotype. Originally described in the oral cavity of HIV-positive patients, it has also been recognized to occur rarely at other sites. We describe a previously unreported fistulizing presentation of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-positive PBL, reviewing its association with HIV-1 infection and its importance as an AIDS-defining malignancy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The advent of antiretroviral therapy increased the life expectancy of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive patients and, consequently, the morbidity and mortality due to neoplasms. Plasmablastic lymphoma is one such neoplasm that generally presents with involvement of the oral cavity; cases of extra-oral involvement are rare. CASE REPORT We report a case of plasmablastic lymphoma in a 46-year-old woman for whom the initial clinical manifestation was a painless perineal tumor accompanied by fecal incontinence. CONCLUSIONS The possibility of this neoplasm should be considered in patients with HIV/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) because its early diagnosis is essential so that the start of the treatment is not delayed.

Abstract
We report the case of a 33-year-old HIV-infected man who presented with a recurrent, nonhealing perianal fistula. After multiple benign biopsies, the diagnosis of plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) eventually was made. The patient underwent chemotherapy and radiation with a complete response. Perianal fistulas are frequent in HIV-positive patients, but PBL as a cause is extremely rare. This often delays the diagnosis and treatment of this highly aggressive disease. We review the literature and discuss the pitfalls in the diagnosis and management of the disease.

Abstract
Plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) rarely occurs in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract with limited studies reported. We reviewed the clinical histories and pathology of four patients with GI PBL at our institute and similar case reports published in peer-reviewed journals. In our first case, a 40 year-old human immunodeficiency virus positive male presented with a hemorrhoid-like sensation, and was diagnosed with PBL via biopsy of a rectal mass. The second case involves a 65 year-old healthy male with bloody diarrhea who was found to have PBL in a resected sigmoid mass. The third patient was a 41 year-old male with a history of Crohn’s disease who presented with abdominal pain, diarrhea, and weight loss. A small intestinal mass (PBL) was removed. The fourth patient was a 65-year-old male who was found PBL after surgical resection of bowel for his florid Crohn’s disease. He later developed secondary acute myeloid leukemia. Clinical outcome was very poor in 3 out of 4 patients as reported in the literature. One patient survived chemotherapy followed by autologous transplant. The prototypical clinical presentation and variations of PBL can help create a more comprehensive differential diagnosis for GI tumors and establish an appropriate therapeutic guideline.

Abstract
Plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) is a rare and aggressive type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma that in 2000 was classified as a distinct type of lymphoma related to acquired immune deficiency syndrome by the World Health Organization after the first reports of the disease surfaced in 1997. PBL is strongly associated with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and often occurs within the oral cavity. Despite intensive chemotherapy regimens and combinational antiretroviral therapy, the prognosis of PBL in HIV-infected patients remains poor. This article describes a case of oral PBL and a literature review of current trends in oral manifestations associated with HIV infection.

Abstract
Plasmablastic lymphoma is a very rare and recently-described subtype of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. It has a poor prognosis despite intensive chemotherapy treatment. A 57-year old woman with perianal Crohn's disease receiving azathioprine and infliximab developed this type of lymphoma after a short period of time on the treatment. She also had a hepatitis C virus chronic infection which had not been diagnosed or treated before. There is no solid scientific evidence that either immunomodulators or anti-TNF drugs have a definitive role in the appearance of malignancies, and therefore there are no clear recommendations to limit their use. In these patients, there are some other factors we have to take into account, like the inflammatory bowel disease in itself and its behaviour over time, or the comorbidities of the patient, with special attention to virus infections. In this case report, we will analyse the role of these factors in the development of lymphoproliferative disorders and the recommendations given by experts to avoid their appearance.

Abstract
Plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) is a distinct disease entity of the diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, which often occurs in HIV-positive patients. The immunophenotype of this lymphoid neoplasm is characterized by the presence of plasma cell-associated markers VS38c and CD138 antigens and the absence of B-cell markers such as CD20 and CD45. The most frequent site of involvement is the oral cavity and the jaw, while several reports describe the development of PBL in extra-oral sites including the lymph nodes, the anal canal, the soft tissue, the skin and the gastrointestinal tract as less frequent. Epstein−Barr virus is often associated with PBL pathogenesis and the neoplastic cells contain this virus genome. Here we review the epidemiological, clinical, immunological, histopathological and virological characteristics and their prognosis and outcome in a series of five patients with diagnoses of HIV/AIDS and PBL.

Abstract
Introduction Plasmablastic lymphoma is an aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma classically occurring in individuals infected with HIV. Plasmablastic lymphoma has a predilection for the oral cavity and jaw. However, recent case reports have shown lymphoma in the stomach, lung, nasal cavity, cervical lymph nodes and jejunum in HIV-negative individuals. We report what is, to the best of our knowledge, the first case of plasmablastic lymphoma occurring in the ano-rectal junction of an HIV-negative man. Case Presentation A previously healthy 59-year-old Caucasian man presented with painless rectal bleeding. Colonoscopy revealed a lesion in the ano-rectal junction, with pathological examination demonstrating atypical lymphoid cells consisting primarily of plasmablasts with rounded nuclei, coarse chromatin, small nucleoli and multiple mitotic figures. Immunohistochemical analysis showed the atypical cells were negative for CD45, CD20, CD79a and immunoglobulin light chains, but were strongly positive for CD138 and EBV-encoded RNA. The results were consistent with a diagnosis of plasmablastic lymphoma. Aggressive systemic chemotherapy and involved field radiation therapy resulted in complete clinical and pathological remission. Conclusion Increasing awareness of plasmablastic lymphoma in HIV-negative individuals and in this location is warranted.

Abstract
Plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) is an uncommon, clinically aggressive, Epstein-Barr virus-driven B-cell lymphoma that was initially described in tumors of relatively young human immunodeficiency virus-positive men. Subsequent to initial reports, the clinical and pathological spectrum of this disease has been expanded such that, now, PBL is recognized to be a heterogeneous disease entity. Plasmablastic lymphoma has been seen in clinical settings outside those initially reported and has been shown to demonstrate a variety of morphologic patterns. We describe a case of extraoral PBL in an human immunodeficiency virus-infected patient with a computed tomography-identified heterogeneously enhancing mass in the stomach. Histologically, a prominent intravascular component was identified. Fluorescent in situ hybridization analysis for MYC/IGH (immunoglobulin heavy chain) rearrangement t(8;14) identified fusion signals, confirming the presence of MYC rearrangement. The presence of a prominent intravascular in our case is unique. To our knowledge, these findings have not been observed in the previous reports of PBL. The observation of this vascular component supports the heterogeneity of PBL and may be an indicator of tumor aggressiveness. We were able to demonstrate the MYC/IGH rearrangement in our case of PBL. The interplay between Epstein-Barr virus and this MYC rearrangement may be similar to what is observed in Burkitt lymphoma, another clinically aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
