Intravesical Textiloma: A Rare Complication Following Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Repair - A Case report

Introduction

Today, surgical errors are becoming less and less frequent, thanks to the development of new techniques and the choice of different approaches. Nevertheless, they are still possible, and it is important to mention them in order to prevent them and avoid their recurrence.

Case Presentation

We report a case of intravesical textiloma, rarely observed in urological surgery, in an 80-year-old patient who underwent laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair and presented to a urological consultation with hematuria and irritative lower urinary tract signs. Abdominal ultrasound revealed a hyperechoic tissue-like formation in the posterior wall of the bladder. The diagnosis of a bladder tumor was therefore raised, and cystoscopy was performed, which revealed an intravesical textiloma. All foreign bodies were removed endoscopically, and the patient had a good post-operative outcome.

Conclusion

The rarity of the urological location of textilomas and the importance of their prevention remain a goal in surgery, whatever the specialty.

A Huge Pericardial Gossypiboma Causing Severe Cardiac Dysfunction

Gossypiboma-a surgical cotton matrix inadvertently left in the body cavity-is a rare postoperative complication, especially after cardiac surgery. We report a patient who presented with severe cardiac dysfunction caused by a huge pericardial gossypiboma that was detected 30 years after the previous cardiac surgery. This case delineates the serious medical consequences caused by pericardial gossypiboma and suggests considering gossypiboma as a differential diagnosis of a pericardial mass in patients with a history of cardiac surgery.

Gossypiboma in the nasal septum after septorhinoplasty: a case study

This report describes a case of gossypiboma in the septum. A 31-year-old woman presented with nasal obstruction and crusting that started 2 years previously after she underwent rhinoseptoplasty in another private clinic. Physical examination disclosed remaining posterior septal deviation to the left side with septal mucosal erosion on the left side. Under general anesthesia, the septal flap was elevated on the left side of the nasal cavity. A gossypiboma was found around the perpendicular ethmoid plate and between the septal flaps. The perpendicular ethmoid plate was resected and the gossypiboma was removed under endoscopy. Because of severe adhesion between the gossypiboma and the septal mucosa, removal of the gossypiboma resulted in a defect on the left mucoperichondrial flap. Right inferior turbinate mucosa was harvested and grafted on the mucosal defect of the left side. Five months after the operation, the nasal cavity showed a straight septum with a well-healed mucosa without any nasal symptoms. This case is a reminder of the fundamental importance of absolute care at every step of rhinologic surgery.
