Abstract
AIM To investigate the prevalence of tooth agenesis and associated dental anomalies in Latvian adolescent dental patients and compare it to other European countries. DESIGN Cross-sectional study of 2692 11-to-14-year-old patients (39.9% males and 60.1% females) attending Riga Stradins University Institute of Stomatology with panoramic radiographs taken between August 2020 and September 2021. Patients with any genetic syndromes were excluded. Data on tooth agenesis (excluding third molars) and other dental anomalies were recorded. RESULTS The prevalence of tooth agenesis in Latvian adolescent dental patients was 9.3% with no statistically significant difference between genders (χ2 test, p = 0.472). The most commonly missing teeth were mandibular second premolars, followed by upper lateral incisors and upper second premolars. There was a statistically significant association with the presence of other dental anomalies in tooth agenesis patients (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS This study found that the prevalence of non-syndromic tooth agenesis in Latvian adolescent dental patients was 9.3% with no statistically significant differences between the genders. Patients with tooth agenesis have a statistically significant possibility of the presence of other dental anomalies (p < 0.001).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dental anomalies are craniofacial abnormalities in the size, structure or number of the teeth. This study was conducted to assess the prevalence of dental anomalies among children aged 0-16 years attending the Paediatric Dental Clinic at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Lagos, Nigeria. METHODS A cross-sectional design was used and data were obtained from the dental records of the Dental Clinic from January 2014 to August 2019 by two calibrated examiners, who are co-authors of the manuscript. To test for statistical differences, Chi-squared test was utilised for the categorical variables. The prevalence of the different dental anomalies was estimated and presented with frequencies. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS Among the 6175 patients' dental records reviewed, 50.85% (n = 3150) were male and the highest proportion of 45.4% (n = 2807) were aged between 6 and 10 years, with a mean age of 8.62 ± 3.85 years. A total of 1090 (17.52%) had dental anomalies; 465 (7.53) anomalies were in the maxilla, 263 (4.6) were in the mandible while 360 (5.83) were in both. The most common anomaly was hypoplasia 550 (9.06%), followed by retained primary tooth 546 (8.84%) and hypodontia 84 (1.36%). Dentinogenesis imperfecta 1 (0.02) and transposition 1 (0.02) were the least prevalent anomalies. Retained primary teeth (5.8%) and the cusp of Carabelli (0.4%) were slightly more prevalent among males. However, females had a higher prevalence of natal/neonatal teeth (0.4%), fusion/germination (0.4%), hypodontia (1.5%) and peg-shaped lateral incisors (0.9%). CONCLUSION Dental anomalies' prevalence in this study was 17.52%, with a higher occurrence of anomalies in the maxilla. Hypoplasia was the most prevalent anomaly, after which was retained primary tooth, then hypodontia. Prompt diagnosis and preventive interventions are crucial for the appropriate management of these dental anomalies.

Abstract
Oral clefts play an essential role in disturbed odontogenesis of the deciduous and permanent dentition, yet little is known about this relationship. We investigated, within the categories cleft lip with or without alveolus (CL ± A) and cleft lip, alveolus and palate (CLAP), whether different CL subphenotypes based on morphological severity of the cleft show different dentition patterns and whether a more detailed subdivision of the incomplete CL has clinical relevance. In this retrospective study, 345 children with nonsyndromic unilateral CL ± A and CLAP from the Dutch Association for Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Anomalies (NVSCA) registry were included to assess the association between the CL subphenotypes and lateral incisor patterns. Five different deciduous and permanent patterns of the lateral incisor were distinguished: located in normal position (pattern z/Z), in the anterior segment (pattern x/X) or in the posterior segment of the cleft (pattern y/Y), one in each segment of the cleft (pattern xy/XY), and agenesis of the lateral incisor (pattern ab/AB). Analyses were performed by using multinomial logistic regression models. Children born with a vermillion notch or a one-third to two-thirds CL were most likely to have a deciduous pattern x and a permanent pattern X, while children born with a two-thirds to subtotal CL were most likely to have deciduous pattern xy and a permanent pattern X compared to children with a complete CL that predominantly had deciduous pattern y and a permanent pattern AB. Based on the relationship of the CL morphology with the deciduous dentition, subdivision of the CL morphology into vermillion notch to two-thirds CL, two-thirds to subtotal CL, and complete CL appears to be an optimal subdivision. Our results indicate that a more detailed subdivision of the CL has clinical relevance and that critical factors in the pathogenesis of the CL are also critical for the odontogenesis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Developmental dental hard tissue anomalies are often associated with oral health problems. This study determined the clinical prevalence of developmental dental hard tissue anomalies in the permanent dentition of children resident in southwestern Nigeria and its association with dental caries and poor oral hygiene status. METHODS This was a cross-sectional study recruiting 1565 school children, 12 to 15 year old attending schools in Ibadan, Oyo State and Ile-Ife, Osun State. All eligible study participants had oral examinations conducted to determine presence of developmental hard dental tissue anomalies, caries and oral hygiene status. The prevalence of developmental dental hard tissue anomalies was determined. Logistic Poisson regression was used to determine the association of between developmental dental hard tissue anomalies, caries and oral hygiene status. RESULTS Only 65 (4.2 %) children had clinically diagnosed developmental dental hard tissue anomalies. The most prevalent anomaly was enamel hypoplasia (2.2 %). More females (p = 0.003) and more children with middle socioeconomic class (p = 0.001) had enamel hypoplasia. The probability of having poor oral hygiene was significantly increased for children with developmental dental anomalies (APR: 0.07; 95 % CI: 0.03 - 0.12; p = 0.002). The probability of having caries was insignificantly increased for children with developmental dental hard tissue anomalies (APR: 0.005; 95 % CI: -0.03 - 0.04; p = 0.08). CONCLUSION The most prevalence clinically detectable developmental dental hard tissue anomalies for the study population was enamel hypoplasia. The presence of developmental dental hard tissue anomalies significantly increased the chances of having poor oral hygiene but not caries. Further studies are required to understand if poor oral hygiene is associated with dental caries in children with developmental dental hard tissue anomalies.

Abstract
Children with oral clefts show a wide range of dental anomalies, adding complexity to understanding the phenotypic spectrum of orofacial clefting. The evidence is mixed, however, on whether the prevalence of dental anomalies is elevated in unaffected relatives and is mostly based on small samples. In the largest international cohort to date of children with nonsyndromic clefts, their relatives, and controls, this study characterizes the spectrum of cleft-related dental anomalies and evaluates whether families with clefting have a significantly higher risk for such anomalies compared with the general population. A total of 3,811 individuals were included: 660 cases with clefts, 1,922 unaffected relatives, and 1,229 controls. Dental anomalies were identified from in-person dental exams or intraoral photographs, and case-control differences were tested using χ(2) statistics. Cases had higher rates of dental anomalies in the maxillary arch than did controls for primary (21% vs. 4%, P = 3 × 10(-8)) and permanent dentitions (51% vs. 8%, P = 4 × 10(-62)) but not in the mandible. Dental anomalies were more prevalent in cleft lip with cleft palate than other cleft types. More anomalies were seen in the ipsilateral side of the cleft. Agenesis and tooth displacements were the most common dental anomalies found in case probands for primary and permanent dentitions. Compared with controls, unaffected siblings (10% vs. 2%, P = 0.003) and parents (13% vs. 7%, P = 0.001) showed a trend for increased anomalies of the maxillary permanent dentition. Yet, these differences were nonsignificant after multiple-testing correction, suggesting genetic heterogeneity in some families carrying susceptibility to both overt clefts and dental anomalies. Collectively, the findings suggest that most affected families do not have higher genetic risk for dental anomalies than the general population and that the higher prevalence of anomalies in cases is primarily a physical consequence of the cleft and surgical interventions.
