Abstract
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is commonly associated with unfavorable cardiovascular outcomes and remains the leading cause of mortality in individuals with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Despite substantial knowledge about the impact of CKD on the left heart, the right heart, which holds significant clinical relevance, has often been overlooked and inadequately assessed in ESRD patients who have undergone kidney transplant (KTx). This study aimed to evaluate the effects of KTx on the right heart chambers in ESRD patients. 57 adult KTx candidates were enrolled in this prospective longitudinal study, while 49 of them were included in the final assessment. Patients underwent a comprehensive cardiac assessment, including conventional echocardiography, speckle tracking echocardiography, and three-dimensional heart modeling both before and after surgery. Echocardiographic assessments showed significant increases in right ventricular (RV) ejection fraction, RV fractional area change (RVFAC), tricuspid annular plain systolic excursion, RV fractional shortening, right atrial (RA) reservoir, conduit, and booster strains, and RV global longitudinal strain (RVGLS). Moreover, significant reductions in RV end-diastolic volume (RVEDV), RV end-systolic volume (RVESV), RV stroke volume, RV end-diastolic diameter (RVEDD) in mid-cavity view, systolic pulmonary artery pressure was observed (all P values < 0.05). However, no significant difference was found in S velocity, as well as RVEDD in basal and apex-to-annulus view. Moreover, pre-KTx measurements of RVGLS, RVEDD (apex-to-annulus diameter), RV fractional shortening, and S velocity were predictors of RVGLS after KTx. RA conduit strain was also identified as a predictor of RA conduit strain after KTx. Additionally, age, RVEDV, RVESV, RVFAC, and RA reservoir strain before KTx were identified as independent predictors of RA reservoir strain after KTx. The findings of this study demonstrate a significant improvement in right heart function following KTx. Furthermore, strain analysis can provide valuable insights for predicting right heart function after KTx.

Abstract
To evaluate the right atrial function in patients with 3-branch coronary artery disease (TBCAD) without myocardial infarction by 2D speckle tracking echocardiography (2D-STE) combined with real-time 3-dimensional echocardiography (RT-3DE). Fifty-six patients admitted to our hospital without myocardial infarction with TBCAD were selected. We divided them into 2 groups according to the coronary angiography results: 28 patients in group B (the rate of stenosis is 50% ~< 75%); 28 patients in group C (the rate of stenosis is ≥75%); in addition, 30 healthy volunteers were screened as group A. All subjects underwent RT-3DE to obtain the right atrial volume (RAVmax, RAVmin, and RAVp), and then we calculated the right atrial passive and active ejection fraction (RAPEF, RAAEF), and maximum volume index (RAVImax). In addition, to measure the strain rates (RASRs, RASRe, RASRa) of the right atrium during systole, early diastole, and late diastole, 2D-STE was applied. Correlations between the 2D-STE parameters and the results of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) and Gensini scores were analyzed by Pearson linear analysis. Compared with group A, RAPEF and RASRe were reduced, while RAAEF and RASRa were elevated in group B (P < .05). RAPEF, RASRs, RASRe, and RASRa were decreased compared with groups A and B, while RAVmax, RAVmin, RAVp, RAVImax, and RAAEF were increased in group C (P < .05). There was a significant correlation between 2D-STE parameters and the results of NT-proBNP and Gensini scores (P < .05). The storage, conduit, and pump functions of the right atrium are reduced in patients with 3-branch coronary artery disease without myocardial infarction; 2D-STE combined with RT-3DE is valuable in the evaluation of the right atrium in patients with coronary artery disease.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW To discuss physiologic and methodologic advances in the echocardiographic assessment of right heart (RH) function, including the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) and point-of-care ultrasound. RECENT FINDINGS Recent studies have highlighted the prognostic value of right ventricular (RV) longitudinal strain, RV end-systolic dimensions, and right atrial (RA) size and function in pulmonary hypertension and heart failure. While RA pressure is a central marker of right heart diastolic function, the recent emphasis on venous excess imaging (VExUS) has provided granularity to the systemic consequences of RH failure. Several methodological advances are also changing the landscape of RH imaging including post-processing 3D software to delineate the non-longitudinal (radial, anteroposterior, and circumferential) components of RV function, as well as AI segmentation- and non-segmentation-based quantification. Together with recent guidelines and advances in AI technology, the field is shifting from specific RV functional metrics to integrated RH disease-specific phenotypes. A modern echocardiographic evaluation of RH function should focus on the entire cardiopulmonary venous unit-from the venous to the pulmonary arterial system. Together, a multi-parametric approach, guided by physiology and AI algorithms, will help define novel integrated RH profiles for improved disease detection and monitoring.

Abstract
Background and Aims The isolated tricuspid valve surgery is performed using beating or arrested heart surgery. The present study aimed to evaluate and compare the results of patients who underwent isolated tricuspid valve surgery using the beating and arrested heart techniques. Methods In this retrospective observational study, all patients undergoing isolated tricuspid valve surgery between 2011 and 2018 were included. The patient's demographic information, echocardiographic, surgery, and hospitalization results were collected, and the EuroSCORE was calculated from the patient's medical records. Results Fifty-three patients were included in the study of which 21 (39.63%) and 32 (60.37%) underwent a beating heart and arrested heart surgeries, respectively. There were no significant differences between the two studied groups in the echocardiographic results before and after the surgery, total hospitalization days (p = 0.56), and the mortality in the first 30 days after the surgery (p = 0.152). However, the duration of surgery (p < 0.001), EuroSCORE (p = 0.005), and patients who underwent lateral thoracotomy (p = 0.007) were notably lower in the arrested heart than in the beating heart group. In contrast, the duration of cardiopulmonary bypass and hospitalization in an intensive care unit after the surgery was remarkably lower in the beating heart than in the arrested heart group (p < 0.001 for both cases). Conclusion Although there were some significant differences between the two kinds of surgery techniques, it seems superficial that made a particular decision to consider each method's superiority. Therefore, further studies with larger populations and meta-analyses are required to recommend the preferred method for the surgeons certainly.

Abstract
As the right ventricle (RV) plays an integral role in different paediatric heart diseases, the accurate assessment of RV size and function is essential in the diagnosis, management, and prognostication of congenital and acquired cardiac lesions. Yet, echocardiographic evaluation of the RV is challenging because of its complex and variable morphology, its different physiology compared with the left ventricle, and its capability to adapt to different loading conditions associated with congenital and acquired heart diseases within certain ranges. Reliable echocardiographic detection of RV systolic and diastolic dysfunction remains challenging while important for patient management. This review provides an updated, practical approach to assessing RV function in structurally normal hearts and in children with common congenital heart defects and in those with pulmonary hypertension. We also review the impact of tricuspid valve function on RV functional parameters. There is no single functional RV parameter that uniquely describes RV function; instead a combination of different parameters is recommended in clinical practice. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of RV function will be reviewed including more recent techniques such as speckle tracking and 3D echocardiography.

Abstract
Background Evidence suggests that changes in left ventricular systolic and diastolic functions may affect right atrial (RA) phasic functions. We aimed to evaluate RA phasic functions in the presence of anterior ST-elevation myocardial infarction (ASTEMI) as an acute event and to compare the findings with those in a control group. Methods We recruited 92 consecutive ASTEMI patients without accompanying significant stenosis in the proximal and middle parts of the right coronary artery and 31 control subjects, matched for age, sex, diabetes, and hypertension. RA phasic functions were evaluated concerning their longitudinal 2D speckle-tracking echocardiography-derived markers. The ASTEMI group was followed up for all-cause mortality or reinfarction. Results In the ASTEMI group, RA strain was reduced during the reservoir (33.2% ± 4.3% vs 30.5% ± 8.1%; P = 0.021) and conduit (16% [12–18%] vs 14% [9–17%]; P = 0.048) phases. The other longitudinal 2D speckle-tracking echocardiography-derived markers of RA phasic functions were not different between the 2 groups. RA strain and strain rate during the contraction phase were predictive of all-cause mortality or reinfarction (hazard ratio = 0.80; P = 0.024 and hazard ratio = 0.39; P = 0.026, respectively). Conclusions Based on 2D speckle-tracking echocardiography, in the ASTEMI group, compared with the control group, RA reservoir and conduit functions were reduced, while RA contraction function was preserved. RA contraction function was predictive of all-cause mortality or reinfarction during the follow-up period. Abstract
BACKGROUND Premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) are early depolarizations of the myocardium which originate from the ventricle. PVCs have previously been considered a benign condition. The clinical significance of PVCs in patients without structural heart disease is controversial. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, patients with a palpitation complaint who underwent electrocardiography (ECG) Holter recording for 48 hours were analyzed. Patients with frequent PVCs (more than ten times in 1 hour) were identified and enrolled in the study. 26 patients were in the PVC group, and 26 patients were in the control group without PVC. The identified patients underwent an echocardiographic examination with strain modality. RESULTS There were 15 women (57.7%) in the PVC group and 17 women (65.4%) in the control group (P = 0.57). Two patients in the PVC group and three patients in the control group were hypertensive (P > 0.99). There was only one patient with diabetes in PVC and control group (P > 0.99). There were two smokers in the PVC group, whereas there was no smoker in the control group (P = 0.49). In comparison between two groups, patients with frequent PVCs had significantly larger left ventricular end-diastolic volume index (LVEDVI) (P = 0.048) along with lower left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) (P = 0.011), lower (more positive) left ventricular global longitudinal strain (LVGLS) (P = 0.001), and lower peak systolic mitral annular velocity (S') (P = 0.045). The left atrial volume index (LAVI) was significantly larger in the PVC group (P = 0.001). In speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) parameters, global peak atrial longitudinal strain (PALS) (P = 0.001) and peak atrial contraction strain (PACS) (P = 0.001) were significantly lower and time to peak longitudinal strain (TPLS) (P = 0.002) was significantly higher in the PVC group. CONCLUSION In this study, left atrial (LA) and left ventricular (LV) function and geometry were adversely affected by frequent PVCs. Early diagnosis of these effects is possible with echocardiography along with strain analysis. It can guide the timely treatment of PVC to avoid the harmful effects of frequent PVCs on the heart.
