[Bibliometric analysis of peruvian scientific production in cardiology and cardiovascular medicine]

Global scientific production on gasless laparoscopy: a bibliometric analysis

Objectives

To characterize the bibliometric characteristics of the global scientific production of original research on gasless laparoscopy in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) platform.

Materials and methods

A bibliometric study of original articles published up to the year 2023 was carried out. Articles were included following the selection criteria in the Rayyan web application, indexed in the Scopus database. The bibliometric analysis was performed using the Bibliometrix program in the R programming language and VOSviewer. The bibliometric characteristics evaluated were articles, journals, citations, publications, ten most mentioned articles, journals with the highest number of publications, authors and institutional affiliations; and cooccurrence of terms.

Results

A total of 223 publications were included, with the highest number of articles being published in the years 1999 and 2014. The publication with the most citations was found to be a randomized trial by Galizia G in 2001 with 132 citations. We identified 846 authors involved in the production of articles on gasless laparoscopy, with Nakamura H being the most productive author with 15 articles between the years 2007 and 2020, followed by Takeda A and Imoto S, all three affiliated with "Gifu Prefectural Tajimi Hospital". The country with the highest production was Japan with 64 publications, followed by China and Italy with 46 and 18 publications, respectively. In the top 10 journals with the highest number of publications, "Surgical Endoscopy-Ultrasound and Interventional Techniques" is in first place with 20 articles published on gasless laparoscopy; in addition, most of these are located in Q1 and Q2. Regarding the terms or keywords, it was found that the initial studies had terms related to the disadvantages of pneumoperitoneum and later focused on more specific topics of the application of gasless laparoscopy.

Conclusions

Production on gasless laparoscopy has stagnated, with the topics of interest currently being its application in new, less invasive techniques. The most productive countries are found in the Asian and European continents, with little information collected in Latin America. This fact makes it necessary to increase the production of studies to promote this technique and its possible advantages.

Global Research Trends in the Latarjet Procedure: A Bibliometric and Visualized Study

Background and Objectives: Latarjet is among the procedures indicated to treat shoulder instability, producing excellent results, including low instability rates and high patient satisfaction. The aim of this study was to report the characteristics of scientific articles that address the subject of the Latarjet procedure through the use of bibliometric analysis. Materials and Methods: Bibliographic searches were performed for original articles published in journals indexed by the Web of Science database until 2021, with no language restrictions. Results: A total of 668 articles published in 87 journals were included. The first publication was in 1981; the most registered publications were in 2018 and 2021 (89 articles), with an annual percentage growth rate of 11.9. Provencher MT was the author with the most published articles, and the institutional affiliation with the most original articles was the Steadman Philippon Research Institute. The most cited article was a study by Burkhart and Beer, and the scientific journal with the most publications on the subject was the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. Most published studies included keywords such as dislocation, instability, and meta-analysis. Conclusion: There has been a sustained increase in original articles on the Latarjet procedure. However, the greatest growth in articles has occurred during the last decade, demonstrating the considerable interest among the world scientific community.

Global research in arthroscopy of the anterior cruciate ligament: A bibliometric and visualized study

Purpose

To carry out a bibliometric analysis of the scientific articles that address the topic of arthroscopy of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Methods

A bibliographic search of the original articles published in orthopedics journals indexed in the Web of Science database until 2020 was carried out. Evaluation of compliance with the inclusion criteria was carried out in the Rayyan web application. The Bibliometrix package in the R programming language and VOSviewer were used to perform the bibliometric analysis.

Results

2249 articles published in 87 journals were included. The first publication on the subject was in 1980, and the highest number of publications was registered in 2020 (151) (annual percentage growth rate of 5.7). Fu FH was the author with the highest number of published articles, and the institutional affiliation with the highest number of original articles was the University of Pittsburgh. The most cited article was the study by Peterson et al. (2000) and the journal with the highest number of publications was Arthroscopy: the journal of arthroscopic and related surgery. United States had the highest frequency of publications and the highest number of total citations received by country. It was found on the network that the largest number of published studies had keywords such as: injuries and follow-up, whereas, in the most recent articles, the most common terms were risk-factors and outcomes.

Conclusions

There is a sustained increase in scientific production on ACL arthroscopy among the world scientific community. Our results can be used for collaborative research purposes and by professionals seeking training in this topic.

Study Protocol for the Peruvian Registry of Advanced Heart Failure (REPICAV)

Background

Heart failure (HF) is a global problem with a high mortality rate, and advanced HF (AHF) represents the stage with the highest morbidity and mortality. We have no local data on this population and its treatment. The aim of this study will be to determine the epidemiological, clinical, therapeutic, and annual survival characteristics of patients diagnosed with AHF treated in hospitals with HF units in the city of Lima, Peru.

Methods and Analysis

An observational, prospective, multicenter study will be conducted with evaluation at baseline and follow-up at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after study entry. Patients over 18 years of age with AHF seen in referral health facilities in metropolitan Lima will be included. The cumulative mortality during follow-up will be estimated by the Kaplan-Meier method, and Cox regression models will calculate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). Likewise, risk ratio (RR) and 95% CI will be estimated using generalized linear models with binomial family and log link function. This study was approved by the Ethics and Research Committee of the National Cardiovascular Institute (Instituto Nacional Cardiovascular "Carlos Alberto Peschiera Carrillo"-INCOR [in Spanish]; Approval report 46/2021-CEI).

Discussion

In Peru, there are no scientific data on the epidemiology of AHF in the population. This means that physicians are not adequately trained in the characteristics of the Peruvian population to identify patients who could be candidates for advanced therapies and to recognize the optimal time to refer these patients to more complex HF units. This study will be the first to examine the clinical-epidemiological characteristics of AHF in Peru with a follow-up of 1 year after the event and will provide relevant information on these observable characteristics for the management of high-complexity patients.
