Abstract
Abstract
In this work, a pyrimidine-based ligand, N′-(amino(pyrimidin-2-yl)methylene)pyrimidine-2-carbohydrazonamide hydrate (APPH · H2O), and its binuclear complex of cadmium, [Cd(μ-APPH)Br]2, 1, were prepared and identified by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H NMR spectroscopy as well as single-crystal X-ray diffraction. X-ray structure analysis of 1 revealed octahedrally coordinated cadmium centers with a CdN4Br2 environment containing two bridging APPH ligands; each APPH ligand acts as an N4-donor (N2-donor toward each cadmium atom) and forms two five-membered chelate rings that are approximately perpendicular to each other. In the network of 1, the N–H · · · Br hydrogen bonds form motifs such as

The crystal network is further stabilized by π-π stacking interactions between pyrimidine rings. The optimized structures of the ligand and complex were investigated along with their charge distribution patterns by density functional theory and natural bond orbital analysis, respectively.

The Early Years of 2,2'-Bipyridine-A Ligand in Its Own Lifetime. Molecules 2019; 24:molecules24213951. Abstract
The first fifty years of the chemistry of 2,2′-bipyridine are reviewed from its first discovery in 1888 to the outbreak of the second global conflict in 1939. The coordination chemistry and analytical applications are described and placed in the context of the increasingly sophisticated methods of characterization which became available to the chemist in this time period. Many of the “simple” complexes of 2,2′-bipyridine reported in the early literature have been subsequently shown to have more complex structures.

Abstract
The catalytic effect of [M(2,2'-bipyridine)2(NO3)](NO3) (M(bpy)2, M=Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II)) on the super-coiled and double stranded DNA (scDNA and dsDNA) was examined by electrophoresis and a real-time detection linear dichroism (LD) technique. Although the Cu(bpy)2 complex effectively cleaved both types of DNA, the other two complexes were inactive. This was explained by the electrochemical properties of the metal complexes. The Cu(bpy)2 complex exhibited a redox potential at -0.222V with a peak to peak separation of 0.201V, whereas the other two metal complexes did not undergo any redox reaction. Both electrophoresis and LD measurements revealed the superoxide radical, ·O2(-), to be responsible for DNA cleavage. A kinetic study using the LD technique showed that the cleavage of dsDNA consisted of two first order reactions. The fast reaction is believed to reflect the cleavage of one strand, whereas the slow reaction involves the cleavage of the complementary strand at or near the first cleaved site.
