Abstract
Alcohol-induced liver injury poses a significant threat to human health. Probiotics have been proven to prevent and treat alcohol-induced liver injury. In this study, the preventive effect of Bifidobacterium lactis TY-S01 on alcohol-induced liver injury in mice was investigated. TY-S01 pretreatment effectively protected mice against alcohol-induced liver injury by preserving the levels of alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, triglyceride and high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol in serum and maintaining the levels of the inflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-6 and interleukin-1β in liver tissue. Additionally, TY-S01 could maintain the endotoxin levels in serum, maintain the mRNA expression levels of zonula occluden-1, occludin, claudin-1 and claudin-3 in the gut, and prevent gut microbiota dysbiosis in mice with alcoholic liver injury. Spearman's correlation analysis revealed that there was a clear correlation among serum indicators, inflammatory cytokines and gut microbiota. In conclusion, TY-S01 attenuates alcohol-induced liver injury by protecting the integrity of the intestinal barrier and maintaining the balance of the gut microbiota.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW This review aims to help oncologists who predominantly treat adults better understand and manage asparaginase associated toxicities and prevent unnecessary discontinuation or reluctance of its use. RECENT FINDINGS Given the data supporting the benefit of incorporating multiple doses of asparaginase in pediatric type regimens, it is prudent to promote deeper understanding of this drug, particularly its toxicities, and its use so as to optimize treatment of ALL. Although asparaginase is associated with a variety of toxicities, the vast majority are not life threatening and do not preclude repeat dosing of this important drug. Understanding the pharmacology and toxicity profile of asparaginase is critical to dosing asparaginase appropriately in order to minimize these toxicities.

Abstract
Asparaginase, an important treatment component for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), causes severe hepatotoxicity in some patients. Levocarnitine is a mitochondrial co-factor that can potentially ameliorate the mitochondrial toxicity of asparaginase. In this retrospective case series, we describe the clinical presentation and management of six pediatric and young adult patients (mean age 12.7, range 9-24 years) with ALL who developed Grade 3-4 hyperbilirubinemia following administration of asparaginase as part of induction/re-induction therapy. Five of these patients were treated with levocarnitine with subsequent improvement of hyperbilirubinemia, while one patient was given levocarnitine prophylactically during induction and developed Grade 3 hyperbilirubinemia, but did not require therapy adjustments or delays. Increased awareness in the pediatric oncology community regarding asparaginase-associated hepatic toxicity and the potential role of levocarnitine in management is warranted.
