Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to determine the effect of virtual reality, music therapy, and stress ball applications, which are methods of distraction, on pain, anxiety, and patient satisfaction during outpatient gynecological procedures. DESIGN This study was a randomized controlled trial with control and intervention groups, pre-test and post-test. METHODS The study was conducted with 200 women who underwent gynecological surgical procedures without sedation in a state hospital on the European side of Istanbul between October 2022 and March 2023. There were four groups in the study: Virtual Reality (n = 50), Music Therapy (n = 50), Stress Ball (n = 50), and Control group (n = 50). Data were collected using a Descriptive Information Form, Visual Analog Scale, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Life Information Follow-up Form, and Patient Satisfaction Evaluation Form. The scales were completed separately by the investigator before the procedure, 10 minutes after the procedure, and 1 hour after the procedure. FINDINGS A statistically significant difference between the intervention groups and control groups of women who underwent a gynecological procedure at the 10th minute after the procedure (P=.000) and at the 1st hour after the procedure (P=.000) was significant. State-Trait Anxiety Inventory of women by groups decreased after the procedure and showed a statistically significant difference (P =.000). Satisfaction scores of the women with the intervention according to the groups also showed a significant difference (P =.000). When the satisfaction scores of the women with the intervention were compared by groups, the satisfaction scores ranged from the highest to the lowest, as virtual reality, music therapy, and stress ball application, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Virtual reality, music therapy, and stress ball applications, which are methods of distraction during the outpatient gynecological procedure, were effective in reducing anxiety and pain and increasing patient satisfaction.

Abstract
Background Birth pain affects women at a physical and psychological level. Pain is subjective, and perception will vary among individuals depending on their health status, pain tolerance, and psychological state. Labor pain can drastically affect the birth process and delivery outcomes if not managed well, ranging from poor maternal satisfaction and impaired maternal-newborn bonding to prolonged labor and fetal distress. Since pharmacological pain relief methods harm the fetus, non-pharmacological pain relief methods are gaining popularity among laboring women and healthcare professionals. Objectives The study aimed to evaluate the effect of audio-visual therapy on labor pain and maternal anxiety. Methods A randomized, controlled, open-label, single-center trial was conducted among 76 primigravida women with no obstetrical complications during the active phase of labor (4-8 cm cervical dilatation). The participants were randomly assigned to an experimental group receiving 50 min of virtual reality intervention or a control group receiving standard care using a computer-generated random sequence. The data related to pain and anxiety were collected using the personal information form, anxiety assessment scale for pregnant women in labor, present behavioral intensity scale, numerical pain rating scale, and post-delivery birth satisfaction checklist. Results Groups were homogenous in terms of demographic and obstetric variables. The virtual reality intervention reduced the experimental group's reported pain intensity and anxiety score. However, no statistically significant difference was noted in maternal vital signs and labor and neonatal outcomes between the groups. Conclusion The virtual reality intervention reduced labor pain intensity and anxiety among laboring women compared to standard care.

Abstract
Although upper gastrointestinal endoscopy is an important diagnostic procedure in the detection of diseases, it can cause discomfort and anxiety in patients. This study is a randomized controlled trial conducted to determine the effects of listening to music on the anxiety, pain, and comfort levels of patients undergoing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. The patients were randomly divided into the intervention group ( n = 40), who listened to music for 45 minutes before upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, and the control group ( n = 40), which did not receive any intervention other than routine nursing care. It was observed that the pain and anxiety levels of the patients who listened to music before the procedure decreased, and their comfort levels and ease of the procedure increased. In order to reduce the pain and anxiety of patients who will undergo upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, increase the success of the procedure, and facilitate patient-doctor cooperation, encouraging patients to listen to music while awaiting the procedure can be effective.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to compare the effects of distraction methods on pain, anxiety, and satisfaction during a colonoscopy. DESIGN This experimental research was conducted as a single-center, randomized, parallel-group trial. METHODS A total of 120 patients were recruited and randomized into 4 groups (music, stress ball, audiovisual distraction, and control). The data were collected using individual an identification form, observation form, the Visual Analog Scale, and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. FINDINGS Pain severity during colonoscopy was found to be lower in the intervention (music and audiovisual distraction) groups compared to the stress ball and control groups (P < .001).There was no statistically significant difference between the pre- and postanxiety levels in the intervention groups compared to the control group. After the colonoscopy, satisfaction levels were significantly higher in the music group compared to the audiovisual, control, and stress ball groups (P < .001). CONCLUSIONS Distraction methods used during colonoscopy were found to reduce pain. Although sedation is widely used during a colonoscopy procedure and is accepted as a general standard, music and VR can be used as effective alternative strategies in reducing pain for colonoscopy patients.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of lavender oil inhalation on the anxiety and comfort levels of patients scheduled for colonoscopy. Seventy-three experimental group patients scheduled for colonoscopy at a training and research hospital in the west of Turkey in June to September 2022 and 72 control group patients were included in this randomized, controlled, prospective study. Minimal sedation (propofol 2-3 mg/kg) was applied in both groups. Lavender inhalation was applied to the experimental group, whereas the control group patients received nursing care (vital sign monitoring, prevention of complications, and rest). The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and the Shortened General Comfort Questionnaire were used for pre- and postprocedural data collection. Median ages were 53.00 years (47.25-59.00) in the experimental group patients and 51.00 (44.00-59.5) in the control group. Although postprocedural state anxiety scores were lower in the experimental group compared with the control group, the difference was not statistically significant ( p = .069). The general postcolonoscopy comfort score was significantly higher in the experimental group compared with the control group ( p < .001). Trait anxiety scores also increased as the number of colonoscopies increased in both groups. We conclude that lavender oil inhalation, a simple and inexpensive intervention, increases patient comfort while exhibiting a positive, albeit statistically insignificant, effect on anxiety.

Abstract
PURPOSE Music therapy (MT) has been used in health care settings for a wide variety of treatment goals. Many inpatients with neurologic impairments struggle with low mood and pain for which MT may be a novel adjunct treatment. The aims of this study were to: (1) evaluate change in mood and pain following a single MT session; (2) explore the impact of an MT program on mood, pain and satisfaction from the perspective of the patient, family and staff. MATERIALS AND METHODS A mixed-methods study was conducted. Forty participants completed pre/post MT surveys evaluating mood, pain and satisfaction. Individual semi-structured interviews and focus groups were conducted with 14 MT program participants (inpatients), 5 family members of participants and 16 staff. RESULTS There was significant improvement in mood (p < 0.001) and decrease in pain (p < 0.05) from pre-to-post MT with 74% reporting being "very satisfied" with the session. "Benefits of MT" was the overarching theme of the qualitative data. Subthemes were emotional regulation, pain management, effects on self-concept, enjoyment, and social connectedness. CONCLUSIONS Improvements in mood and pain were reported from pre-to-post MT session and in interviews. Further evaluation of MT effectiveness against standard of care rehabilitation and cost implications is required.Implications for RehabilitationMusic therapy (MT) is delivered by accredited music therapists (MTAs) in health care settings, including rehabilitation units, as an individual, group or co-treatment therapy.MT can be used for a range of health outcomes, including the treatment of mood and pain, in addition to improving inpatient satisfaction.Early evidence using pre/post MT surveys suggests an improvement in mood and pain following a single therapy session.Qualitative data suggest overall benefit of offering MT services in addition to standard neurorehabilitation therapy, including improvements to emotional regulation, pain management, self-concept, enjoyment, and social connectedness.

Abstract
A stress ball is a simple and effective distraction method during painful procedures. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of using a stress ball during endoscopy on patients' pain, anxiety, and satisfaction levels. The randomized controlled study included 60 patients who underwent endoscopy in a training and research hospital in Istanbul. Patients were randomly assigned to the stress ball group or the control group. Patients in the stress ball group ( n = 30) squeezed a stress ball during endoscopy, whereas the control group ( n = 30) received no intervention during endoscopy. Data were collected using a sociodemographic form, a postendoscopy questionnaire, the Visual Analog Scale to assess pain and satisfaction, and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. Pain scores did not differ significantly between the groups before ( p = .925) or during ( p = .149) the endoscopy procedure but were significantly lower in the stress ball group after the procedure ( p = .008). Similarly, preprocedure anxiety scores were comparable ( p = .743), whereas postprocedure anxiety scores were significantly lower in the stress ball group ( p < .001). The satisfaction score after endoscopy was higher in the stress ball group, but the difference was not statistically significant ( p = .166). This study suggests that use of a stress ball during endoscopy reduces patients' pain and anxiety levels.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have evaluated music interventions before and during a colonoscopy, but the results are contradictory and inconclusive. AIMS The aims of the present study were to evaluate the effect of a music intervention with MusiCure music, both before and during colonoscopy. METHODS The study was a two-armed, prospective, randomised, controlled trial and 337 patients undergoing colonoscopy were included. Patients were allocated to receive relaxing music (MusiCure) before and during the colonoscopy or standard care (no music). Outcome measures included pain intensity, duration of the colonoscopy, consumption of alfentanil and midazolam, vital signs, patient satisfaction and caecal intubation rates (CIR). FINDINGS Men in the music group had a lower middle arterial blood pressure compared with men in the no music group. The majority of patients in the music group would prefer to listen to music if they need a colonoscopy in the future. No differences were found between groups regarding pain intensity, duration of the colonoscopy, consumption of alfentanil and midazolam, vital signs, patient satisfaction and CIR. CONCLUSION The researchers were unable to show an effect on the primary endpoints. However, a high patient satisfaction was found in the music group and a decrease in the blood pressure during the colonoscopy, indicating a reduced stress level. Music before and during a colonoscopy may improve the patient experience.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Improved patient satisfaction in endoscopy is worthy of study as it is an invasive and potentially uncomfortable procedure. There is growing literature on patient satisfaction assessment in endoscopy as part of improving quality assurance. This study aimed to determine whether virtual reality (VR) technology can decrease patients' pain and nervousness during colonoscopies. METHODS Patients enrolled without sedation were randomly categorised into groups that watched VR (VR group; n=58) and those that did not watch VR (control group; n=59). The primary outcomes were pain score and skin conductance. Secondary endpoints included heart rate, systolic and diastolic arterial pressures, overall patient satisfaction, willingness to repeat the procedure, the difficulty of the procedure, the procedure duration, and bowel preparation. RESULTS The median (interquartile range (IQR)) pain scores were 7 (6-8) and 5 (4-6) in the control and VR groups, respectively (p<0.001). The median (IQR) skin conductance values after colonoscope insertion were 0.660 (0.490-0.840) and 0.390 (0.280-0.600) in the control and VR groups, respectively (p<0.001). Overall, patient satisfaction was significantly improved with the use of VR, along with a significant reduction in the difficulty perceived by the endoscopist. CONCLUSION VR technology helped to reduce patients' pain and nervousness and to improve patients' satisfaction during colonoscopies.

Abstract
Background Music therapy (MT) programs have been used in various health care settings to
reduce patients’ pain, anxiety, and stress. However, few studies have
investigated its effects on patients with spinal cord injury (SCI), a
frequently serious event requiring extensive rehabilitation. Objective This pilot study evaluated the feasibility of offering music-assisted
relaxation (MAR) during rehabilitation for patients with SCI. We also
measured the effect of MAR on the patients’ pain, anxiety, and stress
levels. Methods Patients were hospitalized at Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minnesota) from
September 2015 through September 2017 for rehabilitation of an SCI. Eligible
patients received 2, 20-minute, personalized MAR sessions. Interventions
were facilitated by a board-certified music therapist (MT-BC) and included
diaphragmatic breathing, guided imagery, and passive muscle relaxation with
live guitar accompaniment and spoken, improvised, or singing voice. Two
surveys (Generalized Anxiety Disorder [GAD-7] and Perceived Stress Scale
[PSS-10]) were used at the time of study consent and again upon hospital
dismissal. Pain, anxiety, and relaxation were assessed before and after both
MT sessions with visual analog scales (VASs), scored from 0 to 10.
Participants completed a 7-question satisfaction survey after the second MAR
session. Results Twenty patients were enrolled (12 men, 8 women); 13 (65%) completed the MAR
interventions. The mean (SD) age was 53.7 (17.7) years. VAS scores for pain
significantly improved after both sessions (P ≤ .02). VAS scores for anxiety
also significantly improved after both sessions (P ≤ .02), as did VAS scores
for relaxation (P ≤ .02 for both). The satisfaction survey indicated that
patients generally believed that they benefited from MT. Rehabilitation
staff indicated that MT did not interfere with routine clinical care. Conclusion MT with live MAR is a feasible treatment for patients with SCI and may be
effective for reducing their pain and anxiety.

Abstract
Endoscopic examinations are often perceived as invasive, annoying, and painful procedures. For this reason, it is essential to know the patient's opinion to improve service quality and adherence to screening programs. The European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) recommend the identification of quality indicators, including patient satisfaction. The aim of this narrative review of the literature is to investigate the tools available to evaluate customer satisfaction in digestive endoscopy, highlighting which sections and items should be present in a questionnaire for complete evaluation. A narrative review of the literature was performed through five biomedical databases. A total of 125 studies were selected. The review process resulted in a total of 12 scientific papers meeting the inclusion criteria. This review suggests which items and sections should be present in a questionnaire that evaluates customer satisfaction in digestive endoscopy. Customer satisfaction verification programs in the normal routine of a digestive endoscopy service are essential to allow continuous improvement of the offered services.

Abstract
This randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted to determine the effect of music therapy on fatigue, comfort and vital signs of the liver transplant patients. The study sample comprised 120 adult patients (60 in the experimental and 60 in the control group) who met the inclusion criteria and agreed to participate in the study. In the experimental group, the researcher performed music therapy. After applying music therapy once to patients for 30 minutes, their fatigue, comfort, and vital signs were evaluated. No treatment was performed in the control group. According to music therapy follow-ups after liver transplantation, mean scores of fatigue levels were lower, comfort levels were higher, and vital signs were normal, with a statistical significance in the experimental group compared with the control group in all measurements before and after music therapy (P < .001). The study should be repeated using different parameters.

Abstract
AIM Extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy is a commonly used method to break down kidney stones in urology clinics. This study aims to investigate whether or not listening to music is effective against state anxiety in patients undergoing kidney stone treatment with this method. METHODS A total of 80 patients (50 males, 30 females) undergoing extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy for the first time at our clinic were included in the study. The first group (24 patients) listened to instrumental classical music through headphones 20 minutes before the procedure, while the second group (28 patients) listened to instrumental classical music during the procedure. The third group (28 patients) was the control group and consisted of patients who did not listen to music before or during the procedure. Patients were administered a state-trait anxiety inventory test to measure state anxiety after the process, and their results were compared. RESULTS While there was a significant difference in state-trait anxiety inventory scores between patients who listened to music before/during the procedure and the control group, there was no significant difference between patients who listened to music before and those who listened to music during the procedure. Assessment of randomisation showed groups achieved homogeneity. CONCLUSION Among the groups homogeneously distributed according to age and gender, significantly lower anxiety scores of groups that listened to music compared with the control group have provided supporting data to be open-minded and exploratory about increasing patient tolerability and comfort during these potentially pain-inducing procedures.

Abstract
Background This study aimed to investigate the anesthetic effect of butorphanol with different doses in patients undergoing gastroscopy and colonoscopy. Methods 480 patients undergoing gastroscopy and colonoscopy were recruited and randomly divided into four groups to receive different doses of butorphanol (Group A = 2.5 μg/kg, Group B = 5 μg/kg, Group C = 7.5 μg/kg and Group D = 10 μg/kg). Butorphanol was administered 5 min before propofol infusion. The primary outcome was the incidence of body movement. Secondary outcomes were postoperative recovery time, length of stay in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), the total dose of propofol, and the incidence of intraoperative hypoxemia, propofol injection pain, cough, postoperative nausea and vomiting, drowsiness, and dizziness. Results The incidence of body movement and the dose of propofol in Group C and D were lower than those in Group A and B (P < 0.05). The incidence and intensity of propofol injection pain and the incidence of cough in Group B, C, and D were lower than those in Group A (P < 0.05). The length of stay in PACU and the incidence of postoperative drowsiness and dizziness were higher in Group D than in Group A, B, and C (P < 0.05). Conclusion Intravenous pre-injection of 7.5 μg/kg butorphanol with propofol can be the optimal dosage for patients undergoing gastroscopy and colonoscopy. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify and characterize music projects in the health area, their therapeutic goals, theoretical frameworks, evaluation/monitoring, and dissemination of their results for a possible structure model for this process. METHOD Descriptive study with multiple cases and documental analysis. RESULTS Nine projects have participated in this study; these were predominantly in São Paulo and conducted with the adult population in public institutions. The coordinators were mostly women, specialists, with a qualification in health, music, or both. The interventions were performed live, with a mean of 60 minutes per week and repertoires selected by patients. Less than half indicated basing their activities in some theoretical framework or any type of project monitoring. Therapeutic goals related to social insertion and restoring self-esteem, citizenship, protagonism, and communication were pointed out. CONCLUSION The theoretical indication of the music projects was scarce. Around half the analyzed projects indicated some type of evaluation and dissemination of the performed activities. Two projects only had some risk surveillance and scientific production out of their results, which has not enabled proposing a monitoring model for these initiatives.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pain associated with colonoscopies is a major barrier to patients participating in colorectal cancer screenings. While sedation and analgesia are used to reduce pain during the procedure, they are associated with increased complications and costs. Thus, it is necessary to identity novel techniques to relieve pain in a safe and cost-effective way. AIMS To test whether watching real-time videos of colonoscopies while receiving detailed interpretations of the procedures reduces pain and anxiety and increases a patient's satisfaction. METHODS Patients were randomized into three groups including a group who watched real-time videos of their colonoscopies (Group A), a group who watched real-time videos of their colonoscopies while receiving detailed interpretations of the procedures from the endoscopists (Group B), and a group who did not receive either method (Group C). RESULTS Pain and anxiety scores were significantly (Group A vs. Group C, [Formula: see text]; Group B vs. Group C, [Formula: see text]) lower in Groups A and B compared to Group C. Additionally, significantly (Group A vs. Group C, [Formula: see text]; Group B vs. Group C, [Formula: see text]) increased satisfaction was observed in Groups A and B compared to Group C. There were no statistically significant differences observed in the pain and anxiety scores when comparing Groups A and B. However, the overall satisfaction score was significantly ([Formula: see text]) higher in Group B compared to Group A. CONCLUSIONS Real-time videos of colonoscopies as well as videos along with detailed interpretations of the procedures decrease pain and anxiety while improving satisfaction in patients undergoing colonoscopies without sedation. Videos combined with interpretations lead to a greater increase in patient satisfaction.

Abstract
AIMS To explore whether music can reduce anxiety and pain in patients who underwent diagnostic endoscopic examinations in conscious and deep sedation and to assess degree of satisfaction and willingness to repeat the procedure. DESIGN Prospective study led by nursing. METHODS Between March 2019-June 2019, consecutive outpatients undergoing endoscopic examinations were simple matched into four groups: Group 1: conscious sedation with music; Group 2: conscious sedation without music; Group 3: deep sedation with music and Group 4: deep sedation without music. Ten minutes before the procedure, two trainee nurses applied music. State-Trait Anxiety Inventory was used to evaluate anxiety. RESULTS Before and at the end of the procedure, patients who listened to music had a lower level anxiety than those who did not listen and, also, reported lower pain intensity during procedure. Only within Group 1 median anxiety, measured after the procedure, is lower than that measured before. In the bivariate logistic regression model, pain and listening to music were independent factors for satisfaction and willingness to repeat procedure. CONCLUSION music in digestive endoscopy reduce pain and anxiety in conscious sedation, thus could be used to reduce anxiety in support to conscious sedation leading to lower usage of deep sedation and consequently reduction of costs and adverse events. IMPACT Anxiety in digestive endoscopy limits patients' satisfaction. Music in digestive endoscopy as a specific nursing intervention could reduce anxiety of patients. This nursing intervention study confirms positive effect of music in digestive endoscopy. As part of nursing management, the addition of music to daily care practice in digestive endoscopy may reduce anxiety and increase the patient's degree of satisfaction. Use of music could limit deep sedation use in digestive endoscopy with consequent reduction of risks for patients, execution times, and costs of procedures.

Abstract
Nowadays, researchers and clinicians are increasingly interested in alternative non-pharmacological treatments, and music therapy seems to have additional and powerful effects on different pathologies and pain. However, since pain is a subjective perception, it is difficult to evaluate if and which effect music has on it. In this study, a new device and method have been introduced to objectively estimate pain threshold and its changes related to external stimuli. The above-mentioned device, called autoalgometer, allows to evaluate pain threshold changes while listening to music or other sounds. In this experiment, the pain threshold was evaluated in twenty-seven volunteers after listening to one out of three different soundtracks: white noise, Mozart's sonata K448 or Brian Eno's ambient music. Compared to staying in silence, listening to the recordings had no significant effect on pain threshold, and the results did not show any significant difference between the experimental groups. Probably, the positive effect of music described in other studies can be ascribed to a psychological effect, meaning that music can improve subjective mood and, thus, modify pain perception.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Both end-stage renal disease and being wait-listed for a kidney transplant are anxiety-causing situations. Wait-listed patients usually require arteriovenous fistula surgery for dialysis access. This procedure is performed under local anesthesia. We investigated the effects of music on the anxiety, perceived pain and satisfaction levels of patients who underwent fistula surgery.
AIM To investigate the effect of music therapy on anxiety levels and perceived pain of patients undergoing fistula surgery.
METHODS Patients who were on a waiting list for kidney transplants and scheduled for fistula surgery were randomized to control and music groups. The music group patients listened to music throughout the fistula surgery. The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory was performed to assess anxiety, additionally visual analog scale was used to evaluate perceived pain, willingness to repeat the procedure and patient satisfaction. Demographic features, comorbidities, surgical history, basic surgical data (location of fistula creation, duration of surgery, incision length) and intra-operative hemodynamic parameters were recorded by an investigator blinded to the study group. An additional trait anxiety assessment was performed following the surgery.
RESULTS There was a total of 55 patients included in the study. However, 14 patients did not fulfill the criteria due to requirement of sedation during surgery or uncompleted questionnaires. The remaining 41 patients were included in the analysis. There were 26 males and 15 females. The control and music groups consisted of 20 and 21 patients, respectively. With regard to basic surgical and demographic data, there was no difference between the groups. Overall patient satisfaction was significantly higher and intra-operative heart rate and blood pressure were significantly lower in the music group (P < 0.05). Postoperative state anxiety levels were significantly lower in the music group.
CONCLUSION Music therapy can be a complimentary treatment for patients undergoing fistula surgery. It can reduce anxiety and perceived pain, improve intraoperative hemodynamic parameters and enhance treatment satisfaction, thus may contribute to better compliance of the patients.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the role of music on subjects undergoing routine image-guided musculoskeletal corticosteroid injections and its effect on post-procedure pain and subjective overall experience. MATERIALS AND METHODS This prospective study was IRB-approved and HIPAA-compliant. A total of 126 subjects referred for outpatient image-guided musculoskeletal corticosteroid injections were enrolled in the study and randomized into a music offered group ((+)MO) and a no music offered group ((-)MO). (+)MO subjects were given the opportunity to listen to music during their corticosteroid injection. All subjects were then given an anonymous survey on which they recorded their pre-procedural and post-procedural pain on a scale from 0 to 9 and rated their overall experience and how likely they were to recommend our department for musculoskeletal procedures on scales from 1 to 5. RESULTS (+)MO subjects had significantly lower post-procedural pain (p = 0.013) and significantly greater decrease in pain (p = 0.031) compared to (-)MO subjects. Among the (+)MO subjects, there was no statistically significant difference in post-procedure pain (p = 0.34) or change in pain (p = 0.62) if music was accepted or declined. However, subjects who listened to music did have lower post-procedural pain compared to those who did not listen to music (p = 0.012), although the differences in the decrease of pain between the two groups did not quite reach statistical significance (p = 0.062). CONCLUSIONS Playing music during image-guided musculoskeletal corticosteroid injections may reduce patients' post-procedure pain. Offering patients some measure of control over their procedure may be a factor that contributes to decreased post-procedure pain as well.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Music seems to be beneficial in multiple clinical areas. Colonoscopy is a stressful event for patients, especially with conscious sedation. Music during colonoscopy has been evaluated in multiple randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with varied results. Even meta-analyses on the subject over the years have yielded inconsistent conclusions. Therefore, we conducted an up-to-date meta-analysis regarding music during colonoscopy.
AIM To assess the effects of music played during colonoscopy on patients’ perspectives and sedation requirements.
METHODS Multiple large databases were aggressively searched (November 2018). RCTs comparing music to without music during colonoscopy on adult patients were included. Pooled estimates were calculated for sedative medication doses, total procedure time, and patients’ experience, willingness to repeat procedure, and pain scores using odds ratio (OR) and mean difference (MD) with random effects model.
RESULTS Eleven studies (n = 988) were included. Music during colonoscopy showed a statistically significant reduction in procedure times (MD: -2.3 min; 95%CI: -4.13 to -0.47; P = 0.01) and patients’ pain (MD: -1.26; 95%CI: -2.28 to -0.24; P = 0.02) while improving patients’ experience (MD: -1.11; 95%CI: -1.7 to -0.53; P < 0.01) as compared to no music. No statistically significant differences were observed between music and no music during colonoscopy for midazolam (MD: -0.4 mg; 95%CI: -0.9 to 0.09; P = 0.11), meperidine (MD: -3.06 mg; 95%CI: -10.79 to 4.67; P = 0.44), or patients’ willingness to repeat the colonoscopy (OR: 3.89; 95%CI: 0.76 to 19.97; P = 0.1).
CONCLUSION Music appears to improve overall patient experience while reducing procedure times and patient pain. Therefore, music, being a non-invasive intervention, should be strongly considered during colonoscopy.

Abstract
To clarify the effectiveness of music intervention for improving the well-being of patients undergoing coronary procedures for coronary heart disease, we conducted full-text searches of various databases (MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, ProQuest, and Airiti Library; 1966-2019) to identify randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental studies of music intervention in recipients of angiography or percutaneous coronary intervention. Outcome measures included anxiety, discomfort, pain, heart rate, and blood pressure. The Cochrane methodology, Jadad Quality Score, and ROBINS-I were employed to evaluate evidence from 10 studies. Music intervention reduced anxiety (effect size: Z = 2.15, p = .03; six studies) and discomfort of lying (Z = 2.40, p = .02; two studies), but did not affect pain (Z = 0.94; two studies), heart rate (Z = 0.94; five studies), or blood pressure (systolic, Z = 1.27; diastolic, Z = 1.32; four studies) (all p > .05). The heterogeneity among studies was high. Large-scale, transcultural, high-quality trials are warranted to confirm the benefit of music intervention in patients undergoing coronary procedures.
