Abstract
Objective This multi-center cross-sectional study aimed to delineate latent profiles of benefit finding (BF) in individuals undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) in Shanghai and examine associations between these BF profiles, social support, and coping style. Methods A total of 384 individuals undergoing MHD (mean age = 57.90, SD = 13.36) were assessed using the Benefit Finding Scale, Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire, and Perceived Social Support Scale. Latent profile analysis (LPA) identified distinct BF categories. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) evaluated the correlation between BF groups and demographic variables, while the relationship between BF, social support, and coping style was tested through correlation and multiple regression analyses. Results LPA identified three BF groups: rich BF (54.17%), moderate BF (41.14%), and poor BF (4.69%). Regression analyses indicated that positive coping and social support are protective factors for BF. Additionally, older age and heightened understanding of MHD correlated with higher BF levels. Conclusion The findings highlighted the importance of recognizing different BF profiles in individuals on MHD and working toward promoting BF levels in the rich BF and moderate BF groups, while helping the poor BF group to identify and address their challenges. Medical professionals should consider interventions tailored to individual psychological profiles to improve mental health and quality of life outcomes in this population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Depressive moods are commonly seen in patients who receive haemodialysis. This can cause a lack of compliance in their treatment procedures and increase the rate of hospitalization. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between social support and degree of depression in middle-aged and elderly patients undergoing haemodialysis and the predictors of depressive symptoms. METHODS A cross-sectional correlational study was designed with a structured questionnaire survey. Patients over 40 years of age were included from five haemodialysis centres. Measures embraced a demographic and clinical characteristics questionnaire, the Centre for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale, and the Personal Resource Questionnaire 2000. Statistical analysis was performed using hierarchical multiple regression analysis. RESULTS A total of 179 patients over 40 years of age were included from five haemodialysis centres in the analysis. The mean CES-D score was 19.0(12.3); the majority of participants (60.3%) had a CES-D score ≥ 15, indicating likely depressive status. The mean PRQ2000 score was 75.7(15.9). The proportional mean of the PRQ2000 was 72.11%, indicating moderate social support for participants in this study. Data disclosed that marital status, number of comorbidities, exercise behaviour, and social support could significantly predict depressive symptoms; total explanatory variance was 31.3%. CONCLUSION Health care professionals should identify those at high risk of depressive symptoms when they provide care to the middle-aged and elderly patients undergoing haemodialysis. These findings may lead to greater insights into the nursing and rehabilitative care of patients treated by chronic maintenance haemodialysis.

Abstract
As a common disorder, depression must be diagnosed not only in psychiatric but also in different medical settings, especially in patients with chronic diseases. Beck Depression Inventory is valuable and sensitive self-report inventory used worldwide for assessment depressive symptoms. In this research we present obtained scores of BDI in different group of disorders and we showed that BDI scores are related to the clinical condition, as well as with the age.

Abstract
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES To evaluate personality characteristics and psychological symptoms believed to have an effect on the sexual functions and performances of patients undergoing dialysis treatment. BACKGROUND Chronic renal failure is a life-threatening condition which can often have a poor prognosis. The loss of vital kidney function and other complications can affect almost all age groups. DESIGN A quantitative descriptive study. METHODS The study sample included 225 patients selected randomly from patients who have undergone dialysis treatment for at least 3 months at a dialysis centre in a university hospital. In this study, the Golombok Rust Inventory of Sexual Satisfaction (GRISS), the Eysenck Personality Inventory (EPI) and the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) were used. RESULTS In the correlation test, made to investigate the relation between the patients' sexual satisfaction and their personalities, a significant positive relation was found between the communication subscale of the GRISS and the Lie dimension of the EPI, and a significant negative relation was found between the Communication subscale of the GRISS and the Lie dimension of the EPI, and between the Vaginismus and Orgasm subscales of the GRISS and the Extroversion dimension of the EPI. CONCLUSION Results showed that sexual problems, in the areas of nonsensuality, anorgasmia, avoidance and communication, are associated with extroversion and psychological symptoms. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE Sexual health and the psychological well-being of patients with renal failure is an important issue that should be considered in nursing practice. Nurses should take the psychological problems of patients and their relations with partners into account and consider these problems in a holistic manner within the framework of nursing practice. They would then be able to play an effective role in intervening at an early stage and would be better equipped to help and control the psychological and sexual problems that some patients may experience.

Abstract
Researchers confirmed that depression and anxiety are two common comorbid disorders in chronic kidney patients. The aim of our study was to screen the level of depression and anxiety in a group of end-stage kidney diseases treated with hemodialysis. The evaluated sample comprised 230 participants; 110 females (mean age 55.5±13.5 years), and 120 males (mean age 54.5±14.3 years). The mean duration of maintenance dialysis was 8.3±5.8 years (from 0.5 to 24 years). Patients were selected randomly from three dialysis centers in R. Macedonia. As psychometric instruments Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and scores from Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-201) were used. Our study confirmed that majority of evaluated dialyzed patients are depressed and anxious in different level, but unfortunately the mental problems are frequently unrecognized. We suggested some response measures for management of these conditions in order to avoid risks for complications as well of suicide.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients have a high prevalence of anxiety and depression and decreased daily physical activity (DPA) and exercise capacity. Because affective disorders may affect DPA and physical performance, we investigated possible relationships between anxiety or depression and DPA and physical performance in relatively healthy MHD patients. DESIGN AND METHODS This cross-sectional study included 72 relatively healthy MHD patients and 39 normal adults. DPA was measured for 7 days with an Actigraph Activity Monitor®. Physical performance was assessed using the 6-minute walk (6-MWT), sit-to-stand (STS), and stair-climbing tests. Subjects completed the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI), and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Main outcome measures were physical activity counts (expressed as vector magnitude), in the 6-MWT, STS, stair-climbing test, BAI, BDI, and HADS scores. RESULTS Anxiety and depression by BAI and BDI were identified in 43% and 33% of MHD patients and 2.5% and 5% of normals, respectively (P < .0001 for each comparison). MHD patients without anxiety or depression had decreased DPA and physical performance compared with normals, indicating that these disorders were also independent of anxiety or depression. MHD patients with anxiety and depression generally had the most impaired DPA and physical performance. Higher BAI and BDI scores were each associated with impaired physical performance. In fully adjusted analyses, DPA in MHD patients was negatively correlated with the BDI (r = -0.33, P = .01) but not with the BAI. DPA on the day of hemodialysis (P = .01), and day 1 (P = .03) and day 2 (P = .03) after dialysis each correlated negatively with degree of depression by BDI. In MHD patients, BAI was negatively correlated with 6-MWT (P = .03) and STS (P = .04). CONCLUSIONS In relatively healthy adult MHD patients, anxiety and depression are common and are associated with impaired physical performance. There was a trend toward stronger negative associations between BDI scores and DPA than between BAI scores and DPA.
