Abstract
This study aimed to examine the amount of apically extruded debris and time during retreatment with five current file systems, which exhibit various kinematic movements. One hundred upper central incisors were shaped with manual files and filled using the thermoplastic injection method. The root canal fillings in each group (n = 20) were removed using the Genius (GN), ProTaper Next (PTN), Reciproc (RCP) Blue, Tango-Endo (TE) and Twisted File Adaptive (TFA) file systems. The apically extruded debris was collected in preweighed Eppendorf tubes. Time to reach working length and total time were also recorded. The PTN, RCP Blue and TFA instruments caused significantly less apically extruded debris and shorter total retreatment time than the GN and TE file systems (p < 0.05). The time to reach the working length was the shortest in the PTN group compared to the other groups (p < 0.05). All file systems extruded debris while removing the root canal filling.

Abstract
Background The aim of this study was to compare the influence of two novel reciprocating movements on the cyclic fatigue resistance of endodontic reciprocating files.
Methods 30 Procodile® (Komet Medical, Lemgo, Germany) files were selected in this study and distributed according to the following study groups depending on the movements to be performed: ReFlex Dynamic (n = 10), ReFlex Smart (n = 10) and Reciproc (n = 10) reciprocating movement. These files were fixed to a specific dynamic cyclic fatigue device designed and manufactured by 3D impression to simulate the pecking motion performed by the operator. The time to failure and the number of cycles of in-and-out of the endodontic files was registered. The results were analyzed by ANOVA and Weibull statistics. Results Statistically significant differences were found when the number of cycles of in-and-out movement and the time to failure of ReFlex Dynamic and Reciproc reciprocating movement (p < 0.001) and between ReFlex Smart and Reciproc reciprocating movement (p < 0.001) were compared in pairs. However, no statistically significant differences were observed between time to failure and number of cycles of in-and-out movement of ReFlex Dynamic and ReFlex Smart reciprocating movement (p = 0.253). Conclusions The ReFlex Smart reciprocating movement increased the cyclic fatigue resistance of endodontic reciprocating files compared with traditional reciprocating movement.

Abstract
Objective: The aim of this investigation was to detect defects that may occur to Reciproc endodontic files after a single use. Materials and Methods: A sample of convenience of Reciproc files (VDW GmbH, Munich, Germany) that were used to prepare root canals of anterior or posterior teeth were collected. The files were divided equally into two groups: Group 1 (R25) files were used to prepare mesial root canals of 50 human permanent mandibular molars, and Group 2 (R40) included 50 files that were used to prepare permanent maxillary incisor teeth. Files were analyzed after single use by using a scanning electron microscope at X120 to detect changes in surface morphology. The data were statistically analyzed by using the χ2 test, and statistical significance was set at P < 0.05. Results: A total of 96 Reciproc NiTi files were collected; of those, 67 (70%) were unaffected and 29 (30%) showed overall surface deformations. The types of deformation were blade disruption (22%), surface pitting (12%), and unwinding and tip deformation (1%). No microcracks were detected, and none of the studied files showed fracture. R40 was three times more likely to be deformed and showed blade disruption compared with R25 (P < 0.05). Conclusions: Reciproc rotary NiTi files show high resistance to deformation after a single use. Blade disruption was the most frequent defect occurring in both the small and large files.

Abstract
Cutting efficiency of Reciproc R25 (REC) and Reciproc blue R25 (REB) at different inclinations was evaluated. Sixty new files were tested at 90°, 70° and 45° of inclination in relation to the sample (n = 10), using a customised machine. All files were activated in reciprocation against standardised gypsum blocks for 120 s. Cutting efficiency was determined by measuring the block weight loss with an analytical balance and measuring the length of the block surface cut using a digital calliper. Data were statistically analysed (two-way ANOVA, Bonferroni t-test) with the significance level set at P < 0.05. There was no difference for REC among the tested angles. REB had no statistical difference between 90° and 70°; however, its cutting efficiency significantly increased at 45°. There was a significant difference between REC and REB at 45° only. Under these conditions, increased file inclination to 45° and blue heat treatment improved cutting efficiency of reciprocating files.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Contemporary nickel-titanium (NiTi) rotary endodontic instruments had a revolutionary impact on the success of root canal treatment. AIM: To evaluate the flexibility, microstructure and elemental analysis of four different recent NiTi rotary instruments, namely; Wave One Gold, TF adaptive, HyFlex EDM and Gr_Reciproc Blue compared to conventional Protaper Universal (F2). MATERIAL AND METHODS: The NiTi rotary files were subjected to cantilever bending test to evaluate their flexibility. The microstructural characteristics and elemental analysis were examined via scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDX). RESULTS: The TF adaptive, HyFlex EDM and Wave One Gold endodontic files showed significantly lower cantilever bending values (i.e., higher flexibility) than Protaper F2 and Gr_Reciproc Blue (p < 0.05). The SEM micrographs showed that the bulk of all examined files showed multiple striations due to the cutting process, on the other hand, their external surfaces were different: The Protaper Universal F2 showed multiple voids, while the TF Adaptive surface exhibited more uniform structure. The Hyflex EDM had a crater-like surface, whereas Wave one Gold showed machining grooves with minimum defects, while Reciproc Blue displayed machining grooves with random scratch lines. There was a significant difference in bulk and surface elemental analysis of the various examined files, yet composed mainly of the same elements. CONCLUSION: Chemical composition, heat treatment, manufacturing process and geometrical design of the NiTi rotary instrument have a great influence on their flexibility and microstructure.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate cyclic fatigue resistance and bending properties and torque/force generation of WaveOne Gold (WOG) Primary in comparison with WaveOne (WO) Primary and Reciproc (RE) R25. A cyclic fatigue test revealed that the WOG Primary took significantly longer time to fracture compared with the WO Primary (p<0.05). The WOG Primary had the smallest load values at a deflection of 0.5 and 2 mm (p<0.05), as measured with a cantilever bending test. Torque/force measurement demonstrated that maximum upward force and maximum counterclockwise torque values in the WOG Primary were significantly lower than those in the RE R25 (p<0.05). Under the present experimental condition, the WOG Primary showed a higher cyclic fatigue resistance compared with the WO Primary, a higher flexibility compared with the WO Primary and RE R25, and generated a significantly lower maximum torque compared with the RE R25.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The aim of this study was to compare the cyclic fatigue resistance of XP Shaper (XP), HyFlex EDM One File (EDM), and WaveOne Gold Primary (WOG) when operated according to their manufacturers' recommendations at different lengths and to investigate the cyclic fatigue limit of XP Shaper when operated at 3000 rpm. METHODS One hundred fifty instruments from 4 different rotary systems (F2 Protaper Universal [PTU], WOG, EDM, and XP) were tested for their cyclic fatigue resistance in a simulated 90° curved canal at a 37°C water bath temperature at 3 different working lengths (15 mm, 17 mm, and 19 mm). The time taken for instruments to fracture was recorded, and the number of cycles to failure was calculated. Statistical analyses were performed by using Levene's test, Kruskal-Wallis test to identify specific groups with statistically significantly higher cyclic fatigue resistance at 5% significance level. Weibull analysis was performed to determine the predictability of survival for each instrument. RESULTS XP Shaper had the highest cyclic fatigue resistance compared with all other instruments, followed by EDM, WOG, and then PTU. There was no statistically significant difference in the number of cycles to failure between the XP operated at 3000 or 1000 rpm in any of the tested working lengths. There was a reduction in the number of cycles to failure when the working length increased from 15 to 19 mm in EDM, WOG, and PTU. Scanning electron microscopy showed ductile fractures with classic dimpled features in all samples. CONCLUSIONS XP has a very high resistance to cyclic fatigue compared with WOG, EDM, and F2 PTU. The time to fracture will decrease by almost one third when XP is operated at 3000 rpm. The results of both parts of this study suggest that XP appears to be safe to operate at 3000 rpm in endodontic retreatment.

Abstract
Background. The aim of this study was to compare the cyclic fatigue resistance of XP-endo Shaper, HyFlex CM, FlexMaster and Race rotary instruments at body temperature (37±1°C). Methods. Twenty XP-endo Shaper (#30/.01), 20 HyFlex CM (#30/.04), 20 FlexMaster (#30/.04) and 20 Race (#30/.04) instruments were tested at body temperature (n=20). The instruments were evaluated in artificial canals with a 3-mm radius of curvature and 60° angle of curvature to the center of the 1.5-mm-wide canal. Each instrument was rotated until fracture occurred and the number of cycles to failure (NCF) recorded. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey HSD tests (P<0.05). Results. The difference in the NCF of all the instruments was statistically significant (P<0.05). The order of the instruments from the highest to the lowest NCF was as follows: XP-endo Shaper (3064.0±248.1), HyFlex CM (1120.5±106.1), FlexMaster (569.8±48.4) and Race (445.5±53.5). Conclusion. Under the limitations of the present study, XP-endo Shaper instruments were more resistant to cyclic fatigue than the #30/.04 nickel-titanium rotary instruments immersed in water at simulated body temperature.
