Abstract
Mast cell tumors (MCTs) are common skin neoplasms in dogs. Prognostic indicators include histologic grade, clinical stage, high Ki-67 index, elevated argyrophilic nucleolus organizer regions (AgNOR) index, c-kit mutations, and recurrence after surgery. Blood serum redox status has been shown to correlate with prognostic factors in canine lymphoma and mammary tumors. This study aimed to assess the correlation between established prognostic factors and serum redox status and lipid metabolism analytes in dogs with MCTs. Dogs with cutaneous (n = 33) or subcutaneous (n = 6) MCTs, without comorbidities, were studied. Staging was evaluated based on cytology of regional lymph nodes and ultrasound-guided liver and spleen aspiration cytology. Histologic grading and immunohistochemical staining for Ki-67 and KIT patterns were performed on excised tumor specimens. Dogs were categorized by Patnaik grading (1-3), Kiupel grading (low/high), metastatic status, Ki-67 positive nuclei per cm2 (>23 or ≤23), and KIT pattern (I, II-III). Paraoxonase-1, Butyrylcholinesterase, Cupric Reducing Antioxidant Capacity (CUPRAC), Diacron Reactive Oxygen Metabolites (d-ROMs), and oxy-adsorbent levels were measured before any therapeutic intervention. ANOVA and independent t-tests were used to detect differences in the mean values among groups. Paraoxonase-1 activity was significantly lower in Patnaik grade 3 (p = 0.003) and Kiupel high-grade (p = 0.022) MCTs. No significant differences were found in CUPRAC, d-ROMs, or oxy-adsorbent levels across different prognostic groups. This study found a significant correlation between histologic grading and Paraoxonase-1 activity, suggesting a potential role of Paraoxonase-1 as a prognostic biomarker in canine MCTs.

Abstract
Background:
Primary nephrotic syndrome (NS) is a common kidney disease in children. Objectives: The present study was aimed to investigate whether rs5370 G>T (lys198Asn) genetic variant of endothelin-1 (ET-1) is involved in the susceptibility to NS.
Patients and Methods:
This case-control study was performed on 138 patients with NS and 150 healthy children. Genomic DNA was extracted from whole blood using salting out method. Polymorphism of the ET-1 rs5370 G>T (lys198Asn) polymorphism detected by T-ARMS-PCR as well as PCR-RFLP method.
Results:
The results showed that the genotype and allelic frequencies of the ET-1 rs5370 G>T variant were not significantly different between cases and controls. Furthermore, subgroup analysis showed that rs5370 G>T variant was not associated with gender of patients. In NS patients the genotype was not associated with cholesterol, triglyceride, total protein and albumin levels.
Conclusions:
In conclusion, our findings indicate that ET-1 rs5370 G>T is not associated with NS. Further studies with larger sample sizes and different ethnicities are required to validate our findings.

Abstract
Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the most common bacterial infections in children. This studyaimed to investigate the oxidative and antioxidate status of plasma in patients with UTI and to compare them with those of the controls. Methods: This case–control study of 50–75 children in the given order was performed in 2013 at the Pediatric Clinic of infections in Zahedan Hospital of Ali Ibn Abi Talib. The antioxidative status of plasma were evaluated by measuring the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) The oxidative status of samples was assessed by measuring the total peroxide and the oxidative stress index (OSI) levels. The means of the parameters were compared and the relationship among them was determined. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20 (IBM Corp. Released 2011. IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 20.0. Armonk, NY: IBM Corp). Student's t-test and Mann–Whitney U-test were applied in various situations of our questions; 95% confidence interval was considered for the level of significance. Results: The results showed that total oxidant serum status in UTI patients was higher compared to controls when total antioxidant serum was lower. The balance of oxidant-antioxidant serum was in favor of oxidant serum and this term was confirmed by OSI. Conclusion: Our results showed that the plasma levels of TAC in patients with UTI were decreased compared to controls, and oxidant-antioxidant balance and OSI caused increased OS in patients.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Dyslipidaemia of Nephrotic Syndrome (NS) is known to be linked to oxidative reactions and atherosclerosis. Paraoxonase (PON1) has been implicated in the prevention of Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) lipid peroxidation and also degrades biologically active oxidised lipids in lipoprotein. AIM The present study was taken up to assess PON1 levels in paediatric nephrotic syndrome and also to see if any correlation exists between lipid parameters and PON1. MATERIALS AND METHODS This study consists of Group 1 with 40 cases of NS in the age group of 2-14 years and Group 2 with 40 age and sex matched healthy controls. Lipid profile and paraoxonase activity was measured in serum samples of both the groups. RESULTS Statistical analysis by student's t-test showed that the mean levels of Total Cholesterol, Trigylycerides, LDL, and VLDL were significantly increased in Group 1 when compared to Group 2 (p <0.001). The mean levels of HDL were similar in both groups. The levels of PON1 were significantly lowered in Group 1 when compared to Group 2. Correlation studies showed no significant correlation between lipid profile and PON1. CONCLUSION Cases have atherosclerotic dyslipidaemia and significantly decreased PON1 activity. Decreased PON1 may lead to increased oxidation of LDL accelerating the process of atherosclerosis.
