Abstract
BACKGROUND Lymphatic vessels support wound recovery and absorb excess fluid. Blepharoplasty involves excess tissue excision, and this study investigated the relationship between lymph vessel density in excised tissue and the postoperative course. METHODS Forty eyelids from 21 patients with blepharoptosis who underwent blepharoplasty were included. Each resected excess tissue sample was divided into 4 parts by 3 parasagittal cuts-medial, central, and lateral. The area percentages occupied by lymphatic vessels and elastic fibers in the inner tissue between skin and muscle, exposed by these cuts, were determined histologically. The wound-healing process was assessed at 2 weeks and 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively, using a visual analog scale (VAS) to estimate edema and the Vancouver Scar Scale (VSS) for scar assessment. RESULTS With increasing age, the area percentage of lymphatic vessels declined significantly (r = -0.581, p < 0.001), while an increase in solar elastosis was observed. The percentage of lymphatic vessels was highest on the medial side of the eyelid (p < 0.05), where their relative distribution to the "shallow layer" close to the skin was also the highest (p < 0.01). Independent of age, the VSS values at 2 weeks and 1 month postoperatively were significantly lower in patients with a higher area percentage of lymphatic vessels (2 weeks: p < 0.05; 1 month: p < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS In patients undergoing blepharoplasty, the percentage of lymphatic vessels in the upper eyelid tissue decreased with advancing age. Higher proportions of lymphatic vessels were associated with improved wound-healing outcomes.

Abstract
Photobiomodulation (PBM), the use of biocompatible tissue-penetrating light to interact with intracellular chromophores to modulate the fates of cells and tissues, has emerged as a promising non-invasive approach to enhancing tissue regeneration. Unlike photodynamic or photothermal therapies that require the use of photothermal agents or photosensitizers, PBM treatment does not need external agents. With its non-harmful nature, PBM has demonstrated efficacy in enhancing molecular secretions and cellular functions relevant to tissue regeneration. The utilization of low-level light from various sources in PBM targets cytochrome c oxidase, leading to increased synthesis of adenosine triphosphate, induction of growth factor secretion, activation of signaling pathways, and promotion of direct or indirect gene expression. When integrated with stem cell populations, bioactive molecules or nanoparticles, or biomaterial scaffolds, PBM proves effective in significantly improving tissue regeneration. This review consolidates findings from in vitro, in vivo, and human clinical outcomes of both PBM alone and PBM-combined therapies in tissue regeneration applications. It encompasses the background of PBM invention, optimization of PBM parameters (such as wavelength, irradiation, and exposure time), and understanding of the mechanisms for PBM to enhance tissue regeneration. The comprehensive exploration concludes with insights into future directions and perspectives for the tissue regeneration applications of PBM.

Abstract
(1) Background: The aim of the study is to evaluate the analgesic effectiveness of a physical therapy regimen that combines the use of an electromagnetic field with light radiation emitted by LEDs, along with the use of Traumeel S ointment, in patients with gonarthrosis. (2) Methods: The study included 90 patients with knee osteoarthritis (grade 2 Kellgren and Lawrence osteoarthritis). They were divided into three groups: Group I, 30 patients treated with magnetic stimulation plus LED therapy; Group II, 30 patients treated with Traumeel S ointment; and Group III, 30 patients treated with magnetic stimulation plus LED therapy with Traumeel S ointment. Pain intensity was assessed using the VAS and Laitinen scales before and after a series of treatments. (3) Results: Significant results in terms of pain reduction before and after treatment were obtained in each of the study groups, as there were significant differences in the VAS pain intensity scores before and after the procedures between the groups. In group I, with electromagnetic field and LED light treatment, the difference was 35.5; in group II, which received Traumeel S® ointment, the difference was 18.5; and in group III, with electromagnetic field and LED light treatment as well as Traumeel S ointment, the difference was 26.5. In the Laitinen scale, the differences were insignificant, although the size distribution was similar. (4) Conclusions: The therapy used in this study showed that magnetic stimulation plus LED therapy and the use of Traumeel S ointment gave positive results in terms of pain reduction in each of the study groups. The strongest analgesic factor seems to be magnetic and LED therapies used separately. Traumeel S in magnetoledophoresis does not work synergistically with the magnetic field of LED light, and even worsens the effect of the therapy used.

Abstract
Modern high-resolution volumetric tomography, commonly known as cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), is one of the most innovative imaging techniques which can provide views of anatomical structures not attainable by conventional techniques. Magnetic field LED therapy is a physical therapy method, combining the effects of the Extremely Low Frequency-Electromagnetic Field (ELF-EMF) and high-power light radiation emitted by Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). The method has been widely applied in the treatment and rehabilitation of complications of many medical conditions, including in dentistry. The aim of this study was to use CBCT to assess the effectiveness of the simultaneous use of electromagnetic field and LED light in the physical therapy of paranasal sinusitis. Treatments employing the electromagnetic field combined with LED light were administered to a 39-year-old female outpatient of the physiotherapy ward for rehabilitation therapy of paranasal sinusitis. Normal sinus pneumatization was restored almost completely. Reduction in the swelling of the sinus mucosa was so significant that even the pneumatization of the ethmoid bulla was restored. Physical therapy with the simultaneous use of ELF-EMF and LED light was found to be effective in the rehabilitation of the patient with paranasal sinusitis. Positive effects of the treatment were confirmed by CBCT findings.

Abstract
Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) is not a single diagnosis, but a term covering a group of conditions that involve pain and dysfunction of the masticatory muscles within the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and associated structures. It is a set of disease entities comprising various ailments and clinical symptoms. One of the most distressing symptoms for TMD patients is pain. Pain is subjective and always unpleasant. The VAS (visual analogue scale) was used in this research. The aim of this study was to assess the influence of physical stimuli, namely extremely low frequency magnetic field (ELF-MF) and LED light, on the experience of pain caused by increased tension in the masticatory muscles in adults. Out of 150 people examined, 104 were enrolled in the study after meeting the eligibility criteria. The study group was divided into 4 subgroups. Each subgroup received physical therapy treatment using a different physical stimulus. The effects of four therapeutic modalities were compared. In terms of VAS scores, pain attenuation was observed in all subgroups. The study confirmed the analgesic effect of the selected physical therapy methods. The authors focused on the analysis of the results obtained for each subgroup, comparing the effects of individual modalities on pain intensity (according to VAS scores). After the treatment, pain relief was observed in each of the studied subgroups. Treatment using ELF-MF and ELF-MF in combination with LED light in the course of TMD brings about a significant improvement in the subjective pain experience expressed in VAS pain scores. The use of selected physical stimuli and their beneficial effect on pain symptoms during mandibular movements has important implications for patients' daily life and work. Incorporation of therapeutic methods can help enhance patient satisfaction and comfort during manual TMJ therapy and lengthy dental procedures.

Abstract
This randomized, double-blind, and sham device-controlled trial aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of home-based photobiomodulation therapy using an 830-nm light-emitting diode (LED)-based device for the prevention of and pain relief from thyroidectomy scars. Participants were randomized to receive photobiomodulation therapy using an LED device or a sham device without an LED from 1 week postoperatively for 4 weeks. Scars were assessed using satisfaction scores, the numeric rating scale (NRS) score for pain, Global Assessment Scale (GAS), and Vancouver Scar Scale (VSS) scores. The scars were also assessed using a three-dimensional (3D) skin imaging device to detect color, height, pigmentation, and vascularity. Assessments were performed at the 1-, 3-, and 6-month follow-ups. Forty-three patients completed this trial with 21 patients in the treatment group and 22 patients in the control group. The treatment group showed significantly higher patient satisfaction and GAS scores and lower NRS and VSS scores than the control group at 6 months. Improvements in color variation, height, pigmentation, and vascularity at 6 months were greater in the treatment group than in the control group, although the differences were not significant. In conclusion, early application of 830-nm LED-based photobiomodulation treatment significantly prevents hypertrophic scar formation and reduces postoperative pain without noticeable adverse effects.

Abstract
To evaluate the efficacy of low-level light therapy (LLLT) with near-infrared light-emitting diodes (LED-LLLT) for the treatment of dry eye. 40 patients were randomly assigned with a 1:1 allocation ratio to receive LED-LLLT (LLLT group, n = 20) or placebo treatment (placebo group, n = 20). Patients in the LLLT group received LLLT twice a week for 3 weeks, for a total of 6 treatment sessions. The primary endpoint was the changes in the fluorescein corneal staining (FCS) score. The secondary endpoints were the changes in the ocular surface disease index (OSDI) score, lissamine green conjunctival staining (LGCS) scores, tear film break-up time (TBUT), Schirmer test, and the meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) index. These were evaluated before treatment and 4 weeks after start of treatment. The mean difference of score change in primary endpoint revealed significant improvement in the LLLT group, compared to the placebo. Among secondary endpoints, LGCS, Schirmer's test, upper meibography scores showed significant improvements, while TBUT, lid debris, lid swelling, lid telangiectasia, meibomian gland secretion and expressibility scores had slight improvement without significant differences. No serious adverse events were observed. The use of LED-LLLT for the treatment of dry eye and MGD appears to be safe and beneficial.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Pain is a natural response of the body to injury and one of the symptoms defining an inflammatory reaction. It is almost always present after orthognathic surgeries (OGS), but its severity is subjective in each patient. Postoperative care of the patient is aimed at minimizing of postoperative pain relief orofacial region. Options of physiotherapy include extremely low-frequency electromagnetic field (ELF EMF) and high-energy light-emitting diode (LED). Aim of the Study. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of physiotherapy combining ELF EMF and LED to reduce pain of the orofacial region in patients after OGS. Material and Methods. The study was conducted in thirty-two patients who underwent OGS to treat morphological defects. The participants were randomly divided into two groups: Physiotherapy group (PT) and Control group (CG). In both groups, patients were prescribed Paracetamol and nonsteroidal analgesics (NSAID-ibuprofen). Patients from the PT group additionally received postoperative physiotherapy immediately after leaving the surgical clinic in the form of ELF EMF and LED therapy. Physiotherapeutic treatments were performed for 10 days, three applications a day, at no cost to the patient. Pain intensity was assessed using the visual analogue scale (VAS), which is a reliable instrument for the measurement of pain intensity self-reported by the patient. RESULTS Faster reduction of pain was the major observation made in patients who received physiotherapy treatments. In all subjects, after 5 days of therapy, the pain intensity was reduced by about 50% or resolved completely. Effects of therapy were measured with the relative changes in the pain intensity score, showing what fraction of the initial pain was eliminated at the first stage and throughout the whole therapy. The analysis of relative changes instead of absolute changes allowed us, among other things, to eliminate the bias of the higher initial pain intensity in the CG group compared to the PT group. CONCLUSIONS The conducted research revealed that the combined use of ELF EMF and LED is beneficial in the reduction of pain of patients after OGS. The analgesic effects of physiotherapy in the treatment after OGS are necessary to continue research in this area and analyze the possibility of extending the indications for its use in other surgically treated maxillofacial diseases.

Abstract
Nitric oxide (NO) is omnipresent in the body and synthesized by 3 isoenzymes (nNOS, eNOS and iNOS), all detected in human skin. NO can be stored in a pool of compounds readily converted to NO following skin irradiation by UVR and blue light. This non-enzymatic (without NOS involvement) photolytic reaction mobilizes cutaneous stores of NO derivatives to the bloodstream, lowering blood pressure. However, with the likelihood of skin deleterious effects caused by UVR/blue light, safer wavelengths in the red/near-infrared (NIR) spectrum are becoming potential contenders to release cutaneous NO, possibly via NOS temperature-dependent effects. The use of red/NIR light to mobilize NO stores from the body's largest organ (the skin) is auspicious. This review focuses on UVR, blue, red, and NIR spectra and their capacity to release NO in human skin. PubMed and Google Scholar were used as article databases to find relevant publications related to this particular field.

Abstract
Report the effects of photobiomodulation (PBM) and therapeutic ultrasound (TUS) on the viability of TRAM in mice. MATERIALS AND METHODS Fifty-five mice Swiss were subjected to treatment for 5 days. Group 1, treatment was performed with the agents switched off. Groups 2 to 5 were treated with different wavelengths 660 and 830 nanometers (nm) and groups 6 to 11 with TUS of 1 and 3 MHz frequency. Macrometric analyses were performed using a specific camera and analyzed by the ImageJ® software. Thermographic analyses were performed with the Flir C2 and analyzed using the FLIR Tools software. RESULTS Group 9 obtained 95% of viable area on the 3rd day and 85% on the 5th day, showing the effectiveness of the TUS in the flap viability. Regarding skin temperature, there was a difference only in the immediate postoperative period in group 1, which had a lower temperature than the other groups. CONCLUSIONS TUS demonstrated greater efficiency in maintaining the viability of TRAM. PBM 830 nm also demonstrated good results in the viability of TRAM.

Abstract
This study evaluated the effects of light-emitting diode (LED) on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). An electronic search was conducted in PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, and Web of Science database for articles published from 1980 to February 2020. Ten articles met the search criteria and were included in this review. The risk of bias was evaluated to report quality, safety, and environmental standards. MSCs were derived from adipose tissue, bone marrow, dental pulp, gingiva, and umbilical cord. Protocols for cellular irradiation used red and blue light spectrum with variations of the parameters. The LED has been shown to induce greater cellular viability, proliferation, differentiation, and secretion of growth factors. The set of information available leads to proposing a complex signaling cascade for the action of photobiomodulation, including angiogenic factors, singlet oxygen, mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase, Janus kinase/signal transducer, and reactive oxygen species. In conclusion, although our results suggest that LED can boost MSCs, a nonuniformity in the experimental protocol, bias, and the limited number of studies reduces the power of systematic review. Further research is essential to find the optimal LED irradiation parameters to boost MSCs function and evaluate its impact in the clinical setting.

Abstract
PURPOSE Blepharitis, simply defined as eyelid inflammation, is one of the common ocular conditions associated with discomfort and irritation. Because blepharitis causes meibomian gland dysfunction and dry eye, this study aimed to confirm the effect of photobiomodulation (PBM) on blepharitis. METHODS A total of 20 rats were randomly assigned to 4 equal groups, including control, blepharitis, PBM, and eye drop. Blepharitis was induced in rats by injecting complete Freund's adjuvant in the eyelid margins. PBM intervention was given every 3 days after blepharitis induction. Clinical signs including tear volume, tear breakup time (TBUT), meibomian gland swelling, fluorescein, telangiectasia, and meibomian gland secretion scores were measured every week, and the rats were killed for histological analysis after 4 weeks. Immunohistochemistry was performed to compare the level of inflammatory cytokines, interleukin-1β and tumor necrosis factor-α, and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling staining on retina was performed to observe any retinal damage. RESULTS Tear volume and TBUT increased with PBM intervention, and with improved eyelid swelling, corneal staining, telangiectasia, and meibomian gland secretion scores increased. Hematoxylin and eosin staining showed no structural abnormalities of meibomian gland caused by blepharitis induction. Immunohistochemistry revealed that the levels of inflammatory cytokines interleukin-1β and tumor necrosis factor-α were lowered with PBM treatment in both eyelid and conjunctiva. Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling staining showed no retinal damage. CONCLUSIONS Laser PBM at 808 nm was effective in alleviating ocular signs and controlling inflammation in blepharitis rat model. The in vivo results suggest that PBM has the potential to be used in treating blepharitis patients.

Abstract
Introduction Temporomandibular joints (TMJs) play a very significant function in the activity of the locomotor system of the masticatory system. But they are often a source of pain, myopathy, myoarthropathy, and malfunction of their surrounding or internal structures. The treatment of a patient's discomfort associated with masticatory system dysfunctions strongly depends on their cause. Aim of the Study. The objective of the study was to evaluate the impact of selected physical factors: LED light therapy with electromagnetic field and cryotherapy for the level of pain, in the treatment of patients suffering from temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). Materials and Methods The study included 60 patients of both genders with diagnosed TMD in a clinical trial. The participants were randomly divided into two groups. Each group consisted of 30 people and was subjected to separate therapies in which LED light therapy with electromagnetic field (MLT) and cryotherapy (CT) were applied. Results Having assessed the results of the author's own research in terms of analgesic activity, determined on the VAS scale during the daily routine activity of the mandible and its individual movements, in general, each of the studied groups demonstrated a considerable decrease in the level of the patients' perception of pain (<0.001). Having compared both the therapeutic methods used, a greater reduction in the level of perceived pain was achieved with MLT (p=0.002). The type of therapy used turned out to be the only significant factor for the magnitude of this reduction. Conclusions Conclusions based on the results of our own research indicate that the selected methods of treatment demonstrate an analgesic effect in terms of the overall discomfort in the course of TMD, and that they may be an alternative pain relief thereby reducing the patient's intake of painkillers.

Abstract
The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) in patients with Bell's palsy (BP) through a systematic review method. We systematically searched international databases including PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science to find eligible articles without language limitation. All relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared the efficacy of the LLLT with placebo laser, exercise, massage, or no intervention on BP patients were included. Four studies (out of 259) had met our inclusion criteria involving 171 patients and were entered to the systematic review. Full texts of the selected studies were retrieved and critically appraised using Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) scale. The patients of all trials were in sub-acute (less than 1 week) stage. Both of LLLT and control groups showed significant improvement after trials. Two authors reported significant differences between the groups after 6 weeks of laser application (830 nm, 100 mW). In converse, two other authors did not identify any effectiveness following 4 weeks and 15 days of LLLT application with 670 and 830 nm wavelength, sequentially. There is clear lack of information lead to get and evidence-based suggestion for the LLLT application on Bells' palsy; however, the LLLT irradiation with 830 nm and 100 mW power for a period of 6 weeks might be beneficial on recovery for the patients with sub-acute Bell's palsy. There were no reported adverse effects during treatment and/or follow-up sessions.

Abstract
The application of light in various therapeutic settings known as Photobiomodulation (PBM) is well established. Indications are the improvement of wound healing and tissue regeneration, scarring, and perfusion as well as pain therapy. Tissue perfusion is mandatory for successful wound healing. Nevertheless, there is a lack of mechanistic studies. We investigate the potential effect of PBM from light emitting diodes (LED) at 635 nm, 80 mW/cm2, 24 J/cm2 on angiogenesis in a two-part study: 1.) Investigation of the effect of PBM on the proliferation of endothelial cells and on vasculogenesis in a co-culture model of endothelial cells and stem cells. 2.) Investigation of the influence of PBM at chick egg chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assays with fresh human skin xenografts. In both study phases, we observed a stimulating effect of PBM at 635 nm; in part 1: for proliferation of HUVEC (human umbilical vein endothelial cells) (25833 ± 12859 versus 63002 ± 35760 cells/well, p < 0.05, for cellular network formation (2.1 ± 2.1 versus 4.6 ± 3.5, p < 0.05) and for less cell compactness p = 0.01; in part 2: for the increase of number of vessel junctions per ROI (region of interest) (15.9 ± 2.6 versus 20.8 ± 5.4, p < 0.05). Our results suggest significant promotion of angiogenesis by PBM at 635 nm in vitro and in vivo.
