Visible-Light-Driven Photocatalytic Kharasch-Type Addition of 1,6-Enynes

Photocatalytic Multicomponent Annulation of Amide-Anchored 1,7-Diynes Enabled by Deconstruction of Bromotrichloromethane

We present the first example of visible-light-mediated multicomponent annulation of 1,7-diynes by taking advantage of quadruple cleavage olf carbon-halogen bonds of BrCCl3 to generate a C1 synthon, which was adeptly applied to the preparation of skeletally diverse 3-benzoyl-quinolin-2(1H)-one acetates in moderate to good yields. Controlled experiments demonstrated that H2O acted as both oxygen and hydrogen sources, and gem-dichlorovinyl carbonyl compound exhibited as a critical intermediate in this process. The mechanistic pathway involves Kharasch-type addition/6-exo-dig cyclization/1,5-(SN")-substitution/elimination/binucleophilic 1,6-addition/proton transfer/tautomerization sequence.

Visible-Light-Induced Tandem Radical Brominative Addition/Cyclization of Activated Alkynes with CBr4 for the Synthesis of 3-Bromocoumarins

A visible-light-induced tandem radical brominative addition/spiro-cyclization/1,2-ester migration of activated alkynes with CBr₄ is developed. This protocol features good functional group tolerance, operational simplicity, and mild reaction conditions without the use of catalysts and external additives, providing easy access to valuable 3-bromocoumarins in generally high yields.

Cyclic Oxime Esters as Deconstructive Bifunctional Reagents for Cyanoalkyl Esterification of 1,6-Enynes

A concise copper catalysis strategy for the addition-cyclization of cyclic oxime esters across 1,6-enynes with high stereoselectivity to generate 1-indanones bearing an all-carbon quaternary center is reported. In this process, single-electron reduction of cyclic oxime esters enables deconstructive carbon-carbon cleavage to provide a key cyanopropyl radical poised for the addition-cyclization. This reaction is redox-neutral, exhibits good functional group compatibility, and features 100% atomic utilization. This process driven by copper catalyst makes readily available cyclic oxime esters as bifunctional reagents to demonstrate convergent synthesis.

Photocatalytic Biheterocyclization of 1,7-Diynes for Accessing Skeletally Diverse Tricyclic 2-Pyranones

A new and green route to skeletally diverse oxo-heterocyclic architectures such as pyrano[3,4-c]chromen-2-ones and pyrano[3,4-c]quinolin-2-ones is reported via an unprecedented photocatalytic Kharasch-type cyclization/1,5-(S_N″)-substitution/elimination/6π-electrocyclization/double nucleophilic substitution cascade starting from easily available heteroatom-linked 1,7-diynes and low-cost CBrCl₃. During this reaction process, the full scission of carbon-halogen bonds of BrCCl₃ was realized to directly build two new rings, including a lactone scaffold, using H₂O as the oxygen source of the ester group.
