Abstract
Due to ovarian insufficiency, some women attain menopause at an early age due to lifestyle factors and hormonal imbalances. Menopause occurring before the age of 40 is premature and between 40 and 44 years age is early, since the natural age of menopause lies between 45 and 50. The study estimated the prevalence of both premature and early menopause, and examined the potential associated factors that could trigger its occurrence in India. The National Family Health Survey, conducted during 2019-2021, was used to fulfil the study objective. The study sample was divided into two parts, with age group 15-39 and 40-44 for estimating premature and early menopause, respectively. Cox-proportional hazard model was used for the multivariate analysis. The estimated prevalence of premature menopause is 2.2% and early menopause is 16.2%. Lower educational level, poor economic condition, smoking, fried food consumption, early age at menarche are some of the significant explanatory factors. In India, both the proportion and the absolute number of post-menopausal women are growing, therefore it is critical to revamp public reproductive healthcare facilities to include menopausal health segment in women's health as well. Future detailed micro-studies would help in better understanding of the premature or early menopausal cases.

Abstract
This study examined factors that may be associated with depression among middle-aged women in South Korea using data from the 2018 (7th) wave of the Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families. A sample of 6,399 women aged 35-64 years was included. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to identify factors associated with depressive symptoms, as measured by the CES-D-10 scale (Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression), in pre- and post-menopausal women. Results indicated that being single, having poorer self-rated health, and having a lower economic background were associated with an increased risk of depression in both groups. Being unemployed also increased the risk of depressed mood in pre-menopausal women, while factors significantly associated with an increased risk of depressive symptoms in post-menopausal women included having a lower level of education, musculoskeletal pain, and having pain or discomfort. Thus, these factors should be considered when developing interventions to improve the mood and quality of life of middle-aged women. Interventions in the local community may include health services (hormone therapy), educational learning programs, counselling, and improved access to leisure activities.

Abstract
Background The timing of the age at which menopause occurs varies among female populations. This variation is attributed to genetic and environmental factors. This study aims to investigate the determinants of early and late-onset menopause. Methods We used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2013-2014 for 762 naturally menopause women. Data on sociodemographic, lifestyle, examination, and laboratory characteristics were examined. We used random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), and logistic regression (LR) to identify important determinants of early and late-onset menopause. We compared the performance of models using sensitivity, specificity, Brier score, and area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUROC). The top determinants were assessed by using the best performing models, using the mean decease in Gini. Results Random forest outperformed LR and SVM with overall AUROC 99% for identifying related factors of early and late-onset menopause (Brier score: 0.051 for early and 0.005 for late-onset menopause). Vitamin B12 and age at menarche were strongly related to early menopause. Also, methylmalonic acid (MMA), vitamin D, body mass index (BMI) were among the top highly ranked factors contributing to early menopause. Features such as age at menarche, MMA, sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), BMI, vitamin B12 were the most important covariate for late-onset menopause. Conclusions Menarche age and BMI are among the important contributors of early and late-onset menopause. More research on the association between vitamin D, vitamin B12, SHBG, and menopause timing is required which will produce invaluable information for better prediction of menopause timing.

Abstract
Polymorphisms in the glutathione transferase enzymes (GSTs) genes have been associated with susceptibility to develop breast cancer (BC), but few are known regarding its role on this disease prognosis and impact on antioxidant status. This study evaluated the polymorphisms of GSTM1 and GSTT1 genes and their relationship with BC susceptibility and prognostic, as well as its impact on plasma reduced glutathione (GSH) levels. The present study included 121 women with invasive ductal BC and 151 healthy controls. Polymorphisms analyses were performed using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique and GSH levels were measured with the Ellman's reagent. GSTT1 (OR 1.29; p = 0.39) and GSTM1 (OR 1.03; p = 0.91) polymorphisms did not show any association with BC susceptibility. The mean concentration values in nmol/L of GSH were 20.37 ± 5.82 for patients with null genotypes for both genes, 19.75 ± 3.47 for null GSTT1, 17.22 ± 1.35 for active GSTT1, 18.82 ± 1.96 for absent GSTM1, and 16.59 ± 1.66 for active GSTM1, but no significance was found. Therefore, it can be concluded that the behavior of these polymorphisms concerning BC might be not only related to the absence of enzymatic expression but may also be related to the body's response with its antioxidant mechanisms and it should be further studied.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Depression is a serious mental health issue and a major concern among middle-aged women, especially during the menopause transition time. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and associated factors of depression among the middle-aged women of the menopause transition in Dhaka. METHODOLOGY A cross-sectional study was conducted among 41 to 60 years older women in Dhaka city using a multistage cluster sampling technique and face to face interview. RESULT In total 326 middle-aged women participated in the study, and among them, 30.4% had major depression. No statistically significant association was observed between menopause status and major depression. However, peri-(34.2%) and post-menopausal (33.3%) groups were more depressed compared to pre-menopausal (26.8%) groups. Our adjusted analysis indicates, marital status (p = 0.004), having salaried job (p < 0.001), number of offspring (p = 0.003), sedentary hours (p = 0.002), smoking habit (p = 0.012), hypertension (p = 0.012), chronic disease other than diabetes/hypertension (p = 0.006), vasomotor symptoms (p = 0.004) and sleep problem (p = 0.007) were significantly associated with depression status. CONCLUSION The study result indicates a high prevalence of major depression among middle-aged Bangladeshi women during the menopause transition. Therefore, depression should be routinely evaluated among middle-aged women for the monitoring and prevention of depression.

Kim K. Identifying the Factors That Affect Depressive Symptoms in Middle-Aged Menopausal Women: A Nationwide Study in Korea. INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH AND PUBLIC HEALTH 2020; 17:E8505. Abstract
Depressive symptoms do not persistently negatively affect functioning throughout the life span, but they may affect quality of life (QOL), especially in middle-aged women. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the factors associated with depressive symptoms in premenopausal and postmenopausal women. This descriptive study was a secondary analysis of the data from the seventh Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey that was conducted in 2016. Of the 8150 participants, the analysis included 644 premenopausal women and 459 postmenopausal women aged 40-60 years. The factors associated with depressive symptoms in the participants were examined using multivariate regression analysis. It was found that the depressive symptoms of postmenopausal middle-aged women were greater than those of premenopausal women. While a high perceived stress status and high pain-related discomfort were factors that influenced depressive symptoms among the premenopausal group, a high level of discomfort due to anxiety/depression, a poor perceived health status, shortened weekend sleep time, and smoking were associated with depressive symptoms in the postmenopausal group. Thus, it is necessary to develop an intervention to decrease depressive symptoms in postmenopausal women that considers their QOL, which is associated with depression, their subjective health status, sleep time, and smoking cessation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of the study is to assess whether women who choose to use menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) have lower quality of life (QoL) than those who do not initiate it using Cervantes short form scale (C-SF), and analyze sociodemographic factors associated with lower QoL in women. STUDY DESIGN A cross-sectional descriptive observational study was made in four hundred and eighty women with climacteric symptoms. RESULTS Mean age was 51.1 years. Two hundred and sixty-one women (54.3 %) started MHT. The sample´s global mean in C-SF score was 51.3 ± 13.9. Women who choose to use MHT have higher score in C-SF (lower QoL) than women who reject it (58.7 ± 15.9 vs 46.7 ± 12.8; p < 0.001). We found higher score in women with early menopause (53.7 ± 15.9 vs 49.7 ± 13.1; p = 0.037); with no obesity (<30 vs >30 BMI) (52.8 ± 13.5 vs 41.0 ± 8.2; p = 0.002); with previous malignancies (56.2 ± 18.2 vs 50.2 ± 13.5; p = 0.020) and without sexual activity (58.0 ± 25.4 vs 50.4 ± 13.1; p = 0.009. No differences were found in C-SF score with respect to tobacco habits or physical activity. In the multivariate analysis, the variable independently associated to lower QoL by C-SF (high score) was to be a woman who want to initiate MHT (p = 0.004). CONCLUSIONS Women who choose to use MHT due to menopausal symptoms have lower quality of life measured by C-SF scale. Women with early menopause, with no obesity (<30 BMI), without sexual activity and with previous malignances have lower quality of life measured by C-SF scale. Women with early menopause have more psychic symptoms like nervousness, fatigue and sleep complaints by C-SF scale than women with natural menopause.

Abstract
Objectives This study investigated the association between menopausal-specific quality of life (MENQOL) and breast cancer screening beliefs among Hong Kong Chinese menopausal and postmenopausal women. Methods A cross-sectional study was employed to collect data. The questionnaire was distributed to a convenience sample of 218 women aged above 45. The outcome variables were breast cancer screening beliefs and breast examination. Multiple regression analyses were conducted to test the effect of 4 domains in MENQOL (vasomotor, psycho-social, physical, and sexual symptom) and the health behaviors on the 2 outcome variables. Results This study found that the overall MENQOL scores (in particular psycho-social, and physical aspects) were significantly associated with positive attitudes toward health check-ups and better knowledge and perceptions in breast cancer. Regular exercise was also significantly related to breast examination. Conclusions MENQOL (especially psycho-social and physical domain) and regular exercise are important factors associated with breast cancer screening beliefs. The results of this study illuminate health care professionals to develop primary health care strategies to improve the quality of life of mid-life women.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aims of the research are to examine the problems of abnormal menopausal women: the relationship between depression and menopausal-specific quality of life (MENQOL)-symptoms among postmenopausal women; the association of MENQOL-symptoms between pre- and postmenopausal female society in Bangladeshi real community. METHODS This cross sectional study was conducted on 435 women of Tangail, aged (≥ 17) years, using a structured questionnaire where is inaacluded the information of MENQOL and one of the main outcomes "depression" is measured by beck depression inventory. RESULTS Menopausal status and MENQOL symptoms (except pain) are significantly (P < 0.05) associated. By using post-hoc analysis, the proportion of menopausal women, classified as having a depressive mood of early menopause is significantly higher than natural-menopause. Among postmenopausal women, there is a significant correlation between "concentration problem" and "depression". Here mean depression score (29.40 ± 6.42) of menopausal women who have any difficulty in concentrating is higher than mean depression score (20.89 ± 6.64) of menopausal women who have no difficulty in concentrating. Another six factors (osteoporosis, heart-beating, fatigue, pressure, tingling, headaches) of MENQOL-symptoms were significantly correlated with depression and P-values are 0.000, 0.000, 0.000, 0.033, 0.006, and 0.002, respectively. Finally the presence of "difficulty in concentrating" and "fatigue" are strongly associated factors with depression score (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS The early postmenopausal women have to face more psychological problems (e.g., depression) compare to others. Among postmenopausal women, there is no significant relation between depression and vasomotor symptom (e.g., hot-flashes) perspective to menopausal female society of Bangladesh.

Abstract
Objectives Menopause is a natural aging process causing estrogen deficiency, accelerating atherogenic processes including dyslipidemia. Prevalence of thyroid dysfunction is also high in postmenopausal women, and it is known to elevate the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Therefore, we are to study on the associations in between serum thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and prevalence of CVD in postmenopausal women who have normal thyroid function. Methods We performed a retrospective review of 247 Korean postmenopausal women who visited the health promotion center from January, 2007 to December, 2009. Postmenopausal women with normal serum TSH were included in the study. Coronary atherosclerosis was assessed by 64-row multidetector computed tomography. Results In multiple linear regression analysis, serum TSH was associated with serum triglyceride (TG) (β = 0.146, P = 0.023). In multiple logistic regression analysis, increasing age and serum TSH were associated with an increased risk of coronary atherosclerosis in euthyroid postmenopausal women (odds ratio [OR] = 1.107 [1.024-1.197], P = 0.011 and OR = 1.303 [1.024-1.658], P = 0.031, respectively). Conclusions It revealed that significant predictor of serum TSH was serum TG, and increasing age and TSH were found to have associations with an increased risk of coronary atherosclerosis in euthyroid postmenopausal women. Screening and assessing risks for CVD in healthy postmenopausal women would be helpful before atherosclerosis develops.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Decreased renal function is associated with increased cardiovascular risk. Our study was planned to verify the association of decreased renal function and subclinical coronary atherosclerosis in postmenopausal women. METHODS We performed a retrospective review of 251 Korean postmenopausal women who visited the health promotion center for a routine health checkup. Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was used to show renal function, which was estimated by calculated using the Cockcroft-Gault (CG) and the modification of diet in renal disease (MDRD) formulas. Coronary atherosclerosis was assessed by 64-row multidetector computed tomography. RESULTS Women with reduced eGFR (< 60 mL/minute/1.73 m2) had significantly higher brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) than women with normal eGFR (≥ 60 mL/minute/1.73 m2). The eGFR was negatively correlated with baPWV (r = -0.352, P < 0.001), significantly. The eGFR was lower in women with coronary atherosclerosis than in normal control women, markedly. Reduced eGFR was significantly associated with the presence of coronary atherosclerosis (odds ratio [OR] = 7.528, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 2.728-20.772, P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Decreased eGFR was closely associated with increased arterial stiffness and coronary atherosclerosis in postmenopausal women. Evaluating subclinical atherosclerosis by screening the renal function in postmenopausal women may be helpful screening high risk group and considering starting menopausal hormone therapy before atherosclerosis development.
