Recommendations for the surveillance of cancer-related fatigue in childhood, adolescent, and young adult cancer survivors: a report from the International Late Effects of Childhood Cancer Guideline Harmonization Group. Abstract
PURPOSE Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) negatively affects the lives of childhood, adolescent, and young adult (CAYA) cancer survivors. We aimed to provide an evidence-based clinical practice guideline (CPG) with internationally harmonized CRF surveillance recommendations for CAYA cancer survivors diagnosed < 30 years. METHODS This CPG was developed by a multidisciplinary panel under the umbrella of the International Late Effects of Childhood Cancer Guideline Harmonization Group. After evaluating concordances and discordances of four existing CPGs, we performed systematic literature searches. We screened articles for eligibility, assessed quality, extracted, and summarized the data from included articles. We formulated recommendations based on the evidence and clinical judgment. RESULTS Of 3647 articles identified, 70 articles from 14 countries were included. The prevalence of CRF in CAYA cancer survivors ranged from 10-85%. We recommend that healthcare providers are aware of the risk of CRF, implement regular screening with validated measures, and recommend effective interventions to fatigued survivors. CONCLUSIONS A considerable proportion of CAYA cancer survivors suffers from CRF even years after the end of treatment. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS We recommend that healthcare providers adopt regular screening to detect and treat CRF early and positively influence survivors' health and quality of life.

Abstract
CONTEXT The fatigue is reported as the most common and annoying symptom in patients with cancer, timely diagnosis, and treatment can significantly influence the treatment and rehabilitation. It is crucial to have an appropriate tool to accurately assess fatigue status. OBJECTIVES Our purpose was to assess psychometric properties of the Persian versions of fatigue scale by Original Scales from the viewpoint of children with cancer (Child Fatigue Scale [CFS]-24 h), their parents (Parent Fatigue Scale [PFS]-24 h), and staff (Staff Fatigue Scale FSF-24 h). METHODS Convenience sampling of the participants was conducted 100, including children with cancer within the age range of 7-12 years, their parents, and caregivers in medical staff. Test-retest reliability and internal consistency were evaluated using intraclass correlation (ICC) and Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Dimensionality was determined by factor analysis. The patients' fatigue was also assessed through visual analog scale-fatigue (VAS-F). RESULTS Test-retest (ICCCFS = 0.71, ICCPSF = 0.82, and ICCSFS = 0.78) was acceptable with a high level of internal consistency (αCFS = 0.80, αPFS = 0.83, and αSFS = 0.84). Factor analysis identified three, five, and two components for the CFS, PFS, and Staff Fatigue Scale (SFS), respectively. There was moderate correlation between CFS and VAS-F. CONCLUSIONS Results of the current study indicated that CFS in children with cancer, PFS in their parents, and SFS in medical staff were valid and reliable instruments to assess fatigue from the viewpoint of children with cancer along with their parents and medical staff.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the existing body of evidence to determine the current state of knowledge regarding the perspectives of the following groups: (1) children with cancer, (2) family caregivers, and (3) healthcare professionals, about symptoms, as well as factors that may influence the symptom reports. METHODS A systematic search was performed for all types of studies that included the perspectives of at least two groups of participants' symptom reports. Children included anyone younger than 19 years of age who was diagnosed with any type of cancer. Electronic searches were conducted in five English databases and four Chinese databases. The appraisal of methodological quality was conducted using the GRADE criteria. Data were extracted into matrix tables. RESULTS Thirty-three studies were included. The pediatric oncology symptoms reported by children, family caregivers, and healthcare professionals were synthesized. Findings suggested that family caregivers' symptom reports were more closely aligned with children's reports than with the healthcare professionals' reports. Influencing factors on the different symptom reports included the children's diagnosis, symptom characteristics, social-demographic factors, and family caregivers' psychosocial status. CONCLUSIONS Children with cancer should be the primary reporters for their symptoms. When there are reporters other than the children, the potential discrepancy between the different perspectives needs to be carefully considered.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aims of this study were to evaluate cancer related fatigue by children', mothers', and nurses' perspectives in recently diagnosed pediatric oncology patients, to evaluate levels of agreement between the fatigue scales, and to evaluate the relationships between fatigue and sample characteristics. METHOD The sample of this cohort, descriptive, correlational study consisted of 26 recently cancer diagnosed children between the ages of 7 and 12, receiving inpatient treatment in pediatric oncology/hematology units, their mothers and their nurses. The data about children's fatigue were collected using the Child Fatigue Scale-24 h, Parent Fatigue Scale-24 h and Staff Fatigue Scale-24 h, for two consecutive days in the second and third weeks of the patient's first chemotherapy treatment cycle. RESULTS The mean scores of the Child Fatigue Scale-24 h showed the children's fatigue to be at a moderate level, a statistically significant difference was found between the CFS-24 h and PFS-24 h mean scores in the first and second measurement (p < 0.05). The Intraclass correlation showed a good agreement between scales and repeated measurements for these scales. CONCLUSION Fatigue in recently diagnosed cancer patients is an important symptom which is of particular concern to the children, their parents and nurses. The study showed that these three scales can be used alone an also used simultaneously, and also proved that these scales are reliable for repeated measurements.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to review the options that are available for assessing fatigue in children and adolescents with chronic pain problems, analyze the psychometric properties of all the instruments and provide health professionals with key information on which to base decisions about their use. A literature search was conducted using PsycINFO, MEDLINE, CINAHL, ERIC, and Scopus databases and the Cochrane Library between 1934 and January 2013 in order to identify all the studies that have evaluated fatigue in these populations. A total of 936 articles were retrieved, of which 24 were relevant. Of these 10 fatigue-related questionnaires were subject to specific content analysis. Only five of them evaluated fatigue in children with chronic pain, and just two had made a specific analysis of their psychometric characteristics. Most measures have been developed with a multidimensional approach of fatigue in mind. Psychometric information is missing for many questionnaires. On the basis of evidence-based assessment (EBA) criteria none of the questionnaires retrieved can be considered to be well-established measures that can be used in children with chronic pain.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Fatigue is common in chronic health conditions in childhood, associated with decreased quality of life and functioning, yet there are limited data to compare assessment instruments across conditions and childhood development. Our objective was to describe fatigue assessment instruments used in children with chronic health conditions and critically appraise the evidence for the measurement properties of identified instruments. METHODS Data sources included Medline, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and PsycINFO (using the EBSCOhost platform). Study selection included quantitative assessment of fatigue in children with health conditions. Data extraction was as follows: (1) study design, participant and fatigue instruments, (2) measurement properties of fatigue instruments, (3) methodological quality of included studies, and (4) synthesis of the quality of evidence across studies for the measurement properties of fatigue instruments. RESULTS Twenty fatigue assessment instruments were identified (12 child reports, 7 parent reports, 1 staff report), used in 89 studies. Fatigue was assessed in over 14 health conditions, most commonly in children with cancer and chronic fatigue syndrome. Evidence for the measurement properties of instruments varied, and overall quality was low. Two fatigue instruments demonstrated strong measurement properties for use in children with diverse health conditions and children with cancer. CONCLUSIONS The review is limited to children younger than 18 years and results are specific to health conditions described, limiting generalizability of findings to other populations. Evidence for the measurement properties of fatigue instruments varied according to the population in which instruments were used and informant. Further evidence is required for assessment of fatigue in younger children, and children with particular health conditions.

BACKGROUND This study was planned in an attempt to develop scales for the assessment of fatigue in pediatric oncology patients aged 7-12 as well as for their parents. MATERIALS AND METHODS In collecting the study data, we used the Child and Parent Information Form, Visual Fatigue Scale, Scale for the Assessment of Fatigue in Pediatric Oncology Patients Aged 7-12 and the Scale for the Assessment of Fatigue in Pediatric Oncology Patients Aged 7-12 for Parents. We also used Pearson correlation analysis, the Cronbach Alpha coefficient, Factor Analysis and ROC Analysis for the study data. RESULTS In this study, the total Cronbach alpha value of the parent form was 0.95, the total factor load was 0.52-0.95 and the total variance being explained was 85.7%. The cutoff point of the parent form was 82 points. The total Cronbach alpha value of the child form was 0.98, the total factor load was 0.71-0.94 and the total variance being explained was 84.7%. The cutoff point of the child form was 75 points. CONCLUSIONS This study suggests that our scales for the assessment of fatigue in pediatric oncology patients aged 7-12 and their parents are valid and reliable instruments.
