Abstract
BACKGROUND Chondrosarcoma primarily occurs in the pelvis and femur, with occasional cases in the ribs. Surgical resection remains the main treatment method for costal chondrosarcoma. However, complete resection often leads to a large range of chest wall defects and a challenging reconstruction. CASE PRESENTATION A 49-year-old female patient presented with progressive swelling of the right chest and abdominal wall over 15 years. Chest CT revealed a 20.1 × 15.6 × 13.7 cm multilocular cystic-solid mass with internal calcification, encircling the 8th to 12th ribs and causing elevation of the right diaphragm. Compression of the liver resulting in a significant reduction in volume. Based on an ultrasound-guided biopsy, chondrosarcoma Grade I was diagnosed. After a multi-disciplinary discussion, we performed a complete resection of the tumor, including the 8th to 12th anterolateral ribs and part of the diaphragm. The diaphragm was then reconstructed by suturing it to the ribs and intercostal muscles at the resection margin. The thoraco-abdominal wall defects were reconstructed with a polypropylene mesh. Finally, we excised the excess skin and then closed the incision. Histopathologic diagnosis was chondrosarcoma Grade II. The postoperative course was uneventful. At the 3-month postoperative follow-up, no signs of recurrence were observed. CONCLUSIONS Wide en-bloc resection followed by reconstruction using polypropylene mesh is feasible and cost-effective for costal chondrosarcoma with limited invasion. This case illustrates the importance of meticulous preoperative planning and multi-disciplinary discussion.

Abstract
Bone is a living, intricate, and dynamic tissue providing locomotion and protection of the body. It also performs hematopoiesis and mineral homeostasis. Osteosarcoma (OS), Ewing sarcoma (ES), and chondrosarcoma (CS) are primary bone cancers. OS and ES mostly develop in younger individuals, and CS generally develops in adults. Ubiquitination regulates numerous cellular processes. The deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs) detach the ubiquitin molecules from the ubiquitin labeled substrate, altering ubiquitinated protein functions and regulating protein stability via various signaling pathways. Protein homeostasis and bone remodeling are both crucially influenced by the UPS. Recently, there have been several reports on DUBs involved in bone homeostasis and various bone disorders through the regulation of osteoblasts and osteoclasts via NF-κB, Wnt/β-catenin, TRAF6, TGFβ, ERK1/2, and PI3K/Akt pathways. However, DUBs regulating function in bone homeostasis is still in its infancy. Here, we summarized several recent identifications on DUBs, with a focus on their role in bone cancer progression. Therefore, the study attempts to summarize association with the expression level of DUBs as key factors driving bone cancers and also provide new insights on DUBs as key pharmacologic targets for bone cancer therapeutics.

Abstract
Although rare, primary chondrosarcoma is the most frequent malignant tumor of the sternum. It commonly manifests as a painful, expanding mass arising from the costochondrosternal junction. Since it is resistant to radiotherapy and chemotherapy, surgical resection with reconstruction is the preferred treatment. A 50-year-old male presented with swelling over the left fourth sternocostal joint, gradually increasing in size. Imaging and clinical assessment suggested an infiltrative neoplasm, and surgical resection was indicated. The patient underwent a partial sternectomy, including a resection of the xiphoid process and costal cartilages two to seven and a partial resection of the manubrium. Postoperative pathohistological analysis specified the change as a low-grade chondrosarcoma in the pT1 stage. Chest wall reconstruction involved three pectus bars fixated around the ribs and the placement of a synthetic polypropylene mesh. The patient required postoperative rehospitalization due to partial skin layer wound dehiscence, serous drainage, and fever. Empirical antibiotic therapy was initiated, and the patient underwent a median superior laparotomy with partial omentoplasty of the sternal region, preserving the mesh and pectus bars. A culture analysis revealed methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis, and postoperative antibiotic therapy was adapted to the antibiogram. Subsequently, all parameters of inflammation decreased, and wound healing followed. A one-year follow-up CT scan showed no disease recurrence. This case highlights the intricate surgical management that contributed to the successful treatment of sternal chondrosarcoma. Sternal wound infection, a severe postoperative complication with a high mortality rate, requires prompt identification, precise revision with culture-directed antibiotics, and effort to preserve the prosthetic material.

Abstract
Primary chondrosarcoma of the ribs is relatively rare, and its basic treatment is surgical resection. In cases with positive resection margins, additional resection is considered, but its indications are unclear. However, reported cases with positive resection margins have been limited. We report a 71-year-old man whose medical checkup revealed an abnormal shadow in the chest. The findings from chest computed tomography, axial T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and contrast-enhanced MRI led to a diagnosis of chondrosarcoma of the right fourth rib, and surgical resection was performed. The chest wall defect was reconstructed with a Marlex mesh. Postoperative histopathologic diagnosis was grade 2 chondrosarcoma. Gross resection margins, which were marginal, were negative, and the resection margin was grade 1. The patient was followed up without adjuvant therapy and did not undergo additional surgery. For chondrosarcomas with negative gross margins but a marginal margin, additional resection should be considered depending on the histologic grade of the margins. In cases with extensive resection of the chest wall, it is useful to reconstruct the chest wall while paying careful attention to infection control.
