Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the influence of continuous chelation on apical transportation and centrality in shaped curved canals prepared with a martensitic file system and evaluated by micro-CT. Twenty-four lower molar canals with a curvature of 25º-40º were scanned pre-operatively with micro-CT and divided into 2 groups according to two different irrigation regimens (n = 12). Group 1 was irrigated with NaOCl, group 2 with Dual Rinse. All canals were prepared with VDW.ROTATE system. The samples were scanned post-operatively and evaluated at 1, 3 and 5 mm from the apex to determine apical transportation and canal centrality using VG Studio software. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS software using the non-parametric Mann-Whitney test. No statistically significant differences were found between the two groups for both apical transportation and canal centrality at any of the levels studied (p < 05). The use of continuous chelation during the instrumentation of the canals with martensitic alloy files does not produce greater transportation and does not generate changes in centralization compared to NaOCl-only irrigation. Combined chelation and disinfection while shaping with martensitic NiTi can simplify the irrigation regimen without inducing iatrogenic aberrations.

Abstract
Background Root canal therapy is the most widely accepted treatment modality for pulpally involved teeth. Rotary NiTi instruments improve the root canal preparation because of the unique properties of the alloy. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) permits non-destructive and metrically exact analyses of variable such as volume, surface area, cross sectional shape, and taper. Thus the present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of biomechanical preparation of root canals using different file systems on cervical dentinal thickness at coronal level; canal transportation, and surface area at coronal, middle and apical levels using CBCT. Methodology Forty-five single rooted premolars were randomly divided into three groups (n=15), (Protaper hand file, MtwoNiTi rotary file and NeoNiTi single file). CBCT scans were taken before and after the preparation. Dentinal thickness was measured in all four directions to assess cervical dentin thickness and canal transportation. Surface area was evaluated in Adobe Photoshop both before and after preparation. Results The data obtained was subjected to statistical analysis. The total mean change in cervical dentin thickness and total mean canal transportation at coronal and apical was found to be maximum in Group III. The maximum increase of surface area was observed in Group I at coronal level whereas in Group III at middle and apical levels. Conclusion It was concluded that the change in cervical dentin thickness was maximum in Group III. The canal transportation at coronal level and apical level was found to be maximum in Group III; at middle level it was maximum in Group II. The maximum increase of surface area at coronal level was observed in Group I, at middle and apical levels it was seen in Group III.

Abstract
Background This study evaluated and compared the shaping ability of four advanced single-file nickel-titanium (NiTi) systems during the preparation of curved second mesiobuccal (MB2) canals in maxillary first molar replicas fabricated by three-dimensional (3D) printing via micro-computed tomography (Micro-CT) imaging. Methods A total of 60 3D-printed maxillary first molar replicas were constructed from one extracted tooth, with an angle of curvature ranging from 15° to 25°. The MB2 canals from these 60 replicas were divided into 4 groups of 15 replicas according to the canal instrumentation system used, namely, Waveone gold (WOG), Reciproc blue (RCB), XP-endo shaper (XPS) and M3-L. The specimens were scanned before and after preparation using Micro-CT. The pre- and post-instrumentation images of each specimen were superimposed, and the amount of resin removed, the change in surface area, the canal transportation, and centering ability were assessed using the Mimics software. Instrumentation time was also recorded. One-way analysis of variance and least significant difference (LSD) tests were used to statistically compare the groups. The significance level was set at 5%. Results Instrumentation time with M3-L was significantly longer than the other systems (P<0.05). The amount of resin removed and the change in surface area generated by the 4 systems were different at the apical, middle, and coronal thirds, and the total canal (P<0.05). Overall, WOG and XPS resulted in the less change than RCB and M3-L. There was no significant difference among the groups at the middle third regarding canal transportation and centering ability (P>0.05). However, a significant difference was found at the apical level (P<0.05), where RCB showed the poorest centering ability and the highest canal transportation (P<0.05). In addition, XPS resulted in the least canal transportation (P<0.05) at the coronal level, while there was no significant difference between the four groups in terms of centering ability. Conclusions The M3-L instrument required more time to prepare the curved MB2 canals compared with the other systems. Overall, WOG and XPS showed the least resin removal and surface area change. M3-L, XPS, and WOG instruments respected the original canal curvature better than RCB files.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to compare the two nickel-titanium (NiTi) instruments on root dentin thickness using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and ability to remove the smear layer using scanning electron microscope (SEM). MATERIALS AND METHODS The effect of two NiTi rotary instruments such as XP Endo shaper and ProTaper Gold (PTG) in retaining adequate dentin thickness and debridement (i.e., removal of smear layer) was evaluated in vitro using CBCT and SEM. After cleaning and shaping of the root canal with adequate irrigation, the effect of two NiTi instrument systems at 3 mm (apical), 6 mm (middle), and 9 mm (coronal) levels on buccal, lingual, mesial, and distal aspects in terms of amount of dentin removal and smear layer removal was evaluated. The data were analyzed using student's unpaired t-test with a significance of P ≤ 0.05. RESULTS Both NiTi instrument systems had no statistically significant difference in amount of dentin removal at all three levels and on all four aspects. In smear layer removal, PTG had significantly better efficacy compared to XP Endo shaper at the coronal third of root canal. CONCLUSION Instrumentation with XP Endo Shaper and PTG showed a similar amount of dentin removal. PTG has a significant effect on smear layer removal compared to XP Endo Shaper only at the coronal third of root canal.

Analysis of second mesiobuccal root canal instrumentation in maxillary first molars with three nickel-titanium rotary instruments: a micro-computed tomographic study. Odontology 2020; 109:496-505. Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the shaping characteristics of Protaper Universal (PTU; Dentsply Tulsa Dental Specialties, Johnson City, TN), Hero Shaper (HS; MicroMega, Besacon, France) and Hyflex CM (HCM; Coltene-Whaledent, Allstetten, Switzerland) nickel-titanium systems with various apical sizes and tapers in second mesiobuccal (MB2) canal instrumentation using micro-computed tomographic imaging. A total of 27 maxillary first molars with independent patent MB2 canals were selected and randomly assigned to three groups according to the 3-dimensional morphologic aspects obtained from preoperative micro-computed tomographic scans. Canals were first negotiated with a size 8 K-file and finally prepared to F1, F2, and F3 with PTU and to sizes 20.04 taper, 25.04 taper, and 30.04 taper with HS and HCM. Postoperative scans were performed after each instrumentation with the same parameters used in the initial scan. The canal volume, canal transportation, untouched canal surface and wall thickness were measured and calculated using Mimics 10.01 software (Image Works, Materialise, Belgium). Statistical analysis was performed using one-way analysis of variance post hoc LSD tests. PTU removed more dentin than HS and HCM in all sections when instrumented to the same apical size (P < 0.05). HS and HCM presented a lower mean value of canal transportation than PTU in all measured sizes and sections. PTU presented a lower mean value of distal wall thickness than HS and HCM at the level of 1 and 2 mm below the furcation region in all measured sizes. In conclusion, for MB2 canal instrumentation, HS and HCM of 0.04 taper are safer than PTU.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the shaping ability of four different single-file systems using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). MATERIALS AND METHODS Eighty mesiobuccal and mesiolingual canals of permanent mandibular molars were randomly assigned to four groups according to the file used; WaveOne Gold, RECIPROC Blue, HyFlex EDM, and One Shape (n = 20). The samples were scanned using micro-CT for the preinstrumentation record; then the canals were instrumented and scanned for the postinstrumentation records. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS The data were then analyzed statistically using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) with the level of significance set at α = 0.05. RESULTS The results of canal centering ratio and canal transportation showed that no significant difference was found among the four file groups at the middle and the coronal levels. However, a significant difference was found at the apical level (p < 0.05), where WaveOne Gold showed the best centering ratio and the least amount of canal transportation. The change in the canal volume was significant at the coronal level (p < 0.05), whereas the change in the canal volume was higher for the HyFlex EDM group than the other groups. No significant difference was found between the other groups at the apical level, middle level, or in the total percentage of canal volume. CONCLUSION WaveOne Gold produced a more centralized canal preparation with a lesser amount of transportation at the apical level. HyFlex EDM showed the highest canal volumetric change at the coronal level. The interim design of the endodontic files has a high impact on the behavior of the file inside the root canal.

Abstract
Background/purpose Reciprocating single-file systems are the latest nickel-titanium instruments and little information is available concerning the shaping ability of these new systems. Comparison of these single-file systems with well-known rotary multi-file systems is necessary. The purpose of this study was to compare the shaping ability of single-file system (WaveOne, WO) versus multiple-file system (ProTaper Next, PTN) in severely curved canals. Materials and methods A total of 20 severely curved canals were prepared with WO or PTN. Micro-computed tomography was used to scan the specimens before and after instrumentation. Differences between two groups in canal surface area, volume, Structure Model Index (SMI), thickness, straightening, the ratio of uninstrumented surface area and canal transportation were evaluated. Results The outline of the canals after preparation showed smooth taper in both groups. Canal surface area, volume, SMI, Thickness and canal curvature were significantly increased after preparation in both groups, and no significant difference was found between groups. At apical third, canals prepared with WO showed larger values of transportation compared with those in PTN group in the direction of main curvature. Approximately 29–34% of the root canal surface remained uninstrumented after preparation and no significant difference was noticed between groups. Conclusion Both of the two instrument systems maintained the original outline of the canals well. The canals prepared with PTN had less transportation and were better centered in the apical region.

Abstract
Introduction: The aim of this study was to compare canal transportation of two single-file systems, WaveOne Gold and Neoniti, using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methodology: A total of 40 mesiobuccal canals of maxillary first molars with curvatures of 15°–30° were chosen and randomly divided into two experimental groups (n = 20). In both groups, glide path was established using ProGlider. In group 1, canals were shaped with WaveOne Gold and in group 2 with Neoniti A1, respectively. According to manufacturer's instructions, canal preparation was made. Canals were scanned before and after instrumentation using CBCT scanner to evaluate root canal transportation at 3, 5, and 7 mm from the apex. Data were statistically analyzed, and significance level was set at P < 0.05. Results: Mesiodistal and buccolingual transportation showed a statistically significant difference at 3 mm (P = 0.009) and 7 mm (P = 0.002), respectively, when instrumented with Neoniti than WaveOne Gold. Conclusion: WaveOne Gold single reciprocation file respected original canal anatomy better than Neoniti single continuous file
