Abstract
BACKGROUND Among aneuploidies compatible with life, trisomy 22 mosaicism is extremely rare, and only about 25 postnatal and 18 prenatal cases have been described in the literature so far. The condition is mainly characterized by facial and body asymmetry, cardiac heart defects, facial dysmorphisms, growth failure, delayed puberty, and variable degrees of neurodevelopmental delay. PROBLEM The scattered information regarding the condition and the dearth of data on its natural history and developmental outcomes restrict genetic counseling, particularly in prenatal settings. Moreover, a prompt diagnosis is frequently delayed by the negative selection of trisomic cells in blood, with mosaicism percentage varying among tissues, which often entails the need for further testing. Purpose/topic: The aim of our work is to provide assistance in prenatal and postnatal genetic counseling by systematically delineating the current knowledge of the condition. This entails defining the prenatal and postnatal characteristics of the condition and presenting novel data from three cases, both prenatally and postnatally. Additionally, we report the developmental outcomes observed in two new patients.

Abstract
Fetal pleural effusion has been reported to be associated with chromosomal abnormalities, genetic syndromes, obstructive uropathy, lymphatic vessel abnormalities such as Noonan syndrome, RASopathy and congenital lymphatic anomalies, thoracic cavity defects, Rh or ABO incompatibility, non-immune hydrops fetalis, infections, congenital cardiac anomalies, metabolic diseases and hematologic diseases such as α-thalassemia. This review provides a comprehensive view of specific and non-specific chromosome aberrations associated with fetal pleural effusion which is useful for genetic counseling and fetal therapy at prenatal diagnosis of fetal pleural effusion.

Abstract
Partial trisomy 22 is a rare condition that is found in live birth. In most cases, diagnosis of partial trisomy 22 was made after birth. Herein, we report a prenatal diagnosis of fetal partial trisomy 22 in a 28-year-old pregnant woman presented with fetal cystic hygroma. Structural abnormalities were detected at 16 weeks of gestation: left cleft lip and ventricular septal defect. The G-banding karyotype analysis and fluorescence in situ hybridization showed partial trisomy 22. It is recommended that pregnant women with fetal anomalies should have prenatal genetic diagnosis to ascertain whether the fetus has partial trisomy 22 or other rare chromosomal abnormalities.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Complete non-mosaic trisomy 22 is a fatal chromosomal disorder that only few fetuses can survive over 12 weeks as reported. Prenatal sonographic findings combined with postnatal or postmortem discoveries showed characteristic multi-systematic anomalies. PATIENT CONCERNS The unborn baby of a 35-year-old pregnant woman was found to have several anomalies during a prenatal sonographic scan, including intrauterine growth retardation, ventricular septal defect, flat facial profile, and unclear bilateral kidney structures. DIAGNOSES The fetus was diagnosed as having complete non-mosaic trisomy 22 by chromosomal analysis. INTERVENTIONS The pregnancy was terminated at 24 weeks, and autopsy was permitted. OUTCOMES Postmortem examinations revealed additional long-sectional spina bifida occulta and imperforate anus. CONCLUSIONS This was the first time a case of spinal cord defect was reported in trisomy 22 fetuses. More attention should be paid to the spinal cord during sonographic examinations in trisomy 22 fetuses.

Abstract
Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a serious birth defect with a significant mortality and morbidity. The current and constant progress in ultrasound techniques has led to the improvement of the prenatal diagnosis of this malformation. CDH is a developmental defect whose etiology is heterogeneous and takes place when the pleuroperitoneal folds and septum transversum fail to converge and fuse. Survival depends on the extent of pulmonary hypoplasia and the disease may be potentially worsened by the presence of added congenital defects. 40% of CDH cases are associated with at least one additional anomaly. The ultrasound diagnosis is established with essential signs: loss of uniform echogenicity of lungs and marked mediastinal shift. We report the case of a fetus with isolated CDH diagnosed at 21 weeks of gestation by ultrasound and confirmed by RMI, whose genetic analysis of amniotic fluid cells identified a de novo partial trisomy of the long arm of chromosome 11. Different genetic causes have been associated with CDH. Moreover, it is expectable that the use of new techniques for prenatal diagnosis will reveal novel CNVs associated with CDH and will help us to estimate the recurrence risk for this defect as well as for other associated anomalies.

Abstract
We report the important association of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) and 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11.2DS). The prevalence of CDH in our cohort of patients with 22q11.2DS is 0.8% (10/1246), which is greater than in the general population (0.025%). This observation suggests that 22q11.2DS should be considered when a child or fetus presents with CDH, in particular when other clinical findings associated with the 22q11.2DS are present, such as congenital cardiac defects. Furthermore, this finding may lead to the identification of an additional locus for diaphragmatic hernia in the general population. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Abstract
Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a moderately prevalent birth defect that, despite advances in neonatal care, is still a significant cause of infant death, and surviving patients have significant morbidity. The goal of ongoing research to elucidate the genetic causes of CDH is to develop better treatment and ultimately prevention. CDH is a complex developmental defect that is etiologically heterogeneous. This review summarizes the recurrent genetic causes of CDH including aneuploidies, chromosome copy number variants, and single gene mutations. It also discusses strategies for genetic evaluation and genetic counseling in an era of rapidly evolving technologies in clinical genetic diagnostics.

Abstract
Trisomy 22 is a common trisomy in spontaneous abortions. In contrast, live-born trisomy 22 is rarely seen due to severe organ malformations associated with this condition. Here, we report on a male infant with complete, non-mosaic trisomy 22 born at 35 + 5 weeks via caesarean section. Peripheral blood lymphocytes and fibroblasts showed an additional chromosome 22 in all metaphases analyzed (47,XY,+22). In addition, array CGH confirmed complete trisomy 22. The patient's clinical features included dolichocephalus, hypertelorism, flattened nasal bridge, dysplastic ears with preauricular sinuses and tags, medial cleft palate, anal atresia, and coronary hypospadias with scrotum bipartitum. Essential treatment was implemented in close coordination with the parents. The child died 29 days after birth due to respiratory insufficiency and deterioration of renal function. Our patient's history complements other reports illustrating that children with complete trisomy 22 may survive until birth and beyond.

The sonographic identification of a complex cardiac defect and bowing of the long bones associated with multiple structural anomalies add new clinical informations to our knowledge about the prenatal phenotype of trisomy 22. These findings have not been reported previously and are of critical importance as sonographic signs of trisomy 22 may overlap that of trisomy 13-18 and will help clinicians in indicating fetal karyotyping. Prenatal diagnosis of trisomy 22 is essential as trisomy 22 is a lethal condition.

Abstract
The occurrence of trisomy 22 confined to the placenta is rare. We report on a patient who presented with fetal abnormal Doppler velocimetry (elevated umbilical artery pulsatility index), but serial ultrasound examinations revealed a spontaneous recovery throughout pregnancy. A healthy baby was normally delivered at 40 weeks.

Abstract
Non-mosaic trisomy 22 is a common cause of first trimester miscarriage and has a livebirth incidence of 1 in 30,000-50,000. Consequently there is a paucity of information for counselling parents. Detection in the second trimester is rare. It is commonly associated with severe growth retardation and multiple structural abnormalities. Oligohydramnios is frequently seen and can make detection of other abnormalities difficult. The outlook is uniformly poor and survival beyond the first trimester may present management dilemmas. A thorough fetal assessment including high-resolution cytogenetics with or without FISH is required for counselling. Careful plans for intrapartum and neonatal management may be necessary. The recurrence risk is thought to be low but information is very limited as there have been no reported cases of recurrence. We present two case of non-mosaic trisomy 22 including the first to be diagnosed subsequent to investigation for a high serum screening Down's risk.

Abstract
Trisomy 22 is a rare chromosomal abnormality infrequently detected prenatally. External ear abnormalities, in particular microtia, are often associated with trisomy 22, but prenatal detection of microtia has not been reported in association with trisomy 22. We report a fetus with trisomy 22, with fetal MRI findings of microtia, craniofacial dysmorphism, and polygyria. Fetal MRI is a useful tool for auricular assessment and might have utility in the prenatal detection of chromosomal abnormalities, especially among fetuses with structural anomalies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to survey prenatal sonographic findings and their frequencies in fetuses with complete trisomy 22 and to identify potential sonographic markers of this aneuploidy. METHODS Sonographic examinations of 5 fetuses were performed and chromosome analysis was conducted after amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, cordocentesis, or a combination thereof. The sonographic findings were compared with other prenatal cases in the literature. RESULTS Intrauterine growth restriction, hypoplastic femurs, nuchal thickening, cerebellar defects, and oligohydramnios were the most frequently observed anomalies in all considered cases of late first-, second-, and third-trimester scans. CONCLUSIONS These anomalies represent commonly accepted sonographic markers for chromosomal defects in general, some recognizable from the time of first-trimester screening (12th-14th weeks of gestation) and stress their importance for prenatal sonographic scans.
