Abstract
Data on Kaposi sarcoma in French Guiana are scarce and out of date. This territory presents unique epidemiological features. The objectives of this retrospective study were to analyse the clinical features, outcome and incidence of the different forms of Kaposi sarcoma in patients diagnosed between 1969 and 2019. The study population comprised a total of 52 patients. Clinical forms included epidemic Kaposi sarcoma (n=30), endemic (n=18), iatrogenic (n=2), classic (n=1) and unclassified Kaposi sarcoma (n=1). The mean annual incidence rate of epidemic Kaposi reached a peak in the 1990s (0.93/100,000) then decreased in the 2000s (0.33/100,000), while the incidence of endemic Kaposi sarcoma reached a peak in the 1980s (0.82/100,000) before decreasing in the 2000s (0.12/100,000). Factors associated with the epidemic form were: sexual intercourse between men (p=0.0054) and Haitian origin (p=0.035). The presence of nodules and/or tumour, lesions limited to the lower limbs, and age >65 years were associated with the endemic form. While Creole populations seem to be as affected by endemic Kaposi sarcoma as their African counterparts, the dynamics of Kaposi sarcoma in French Guiana are now dominated by the epidemic form.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mycobacterium ulcerans infection is the third most common mycobacterial disease in the world after tuberculosis and leprosy. To date, transmission pathways from its environmental reservoir to humans are still unknown. In South America, French Guiana has the highest reported number of M ulcerans infections across the continent. This empirical study aimed to characterise the epidemiology of M ulcerans infection in French Guiana between 1969 and 2013. METHODS Data were collected prospectively mainly by two dermatologists at Cayenne Hospital's dermatology department between Jan 1, 1969, and Dec 31, 2013, for age, date of diagnosis, sex, residence, location of the lesion, type of lesion, associated symptoms, and diagnostic method (smear, culture, PCR, or histology) for all confirmed and suspected cases of M ulcerans. We obtained population data from censuses. We calculated mean M ulcerans infection incidences, presented as the number of cases per 100 000 person-years. FINDINGS 245 patients with M ulcerans infections were reported at Cayenne Hospital's dermatology department during the study period. M ulcerans infection incidence decreased over time, from 6·07 infections per 100 000 person-years (95% CI 4·46-7·67) in 1969-83 to 4·77 infections per 100 000 person-years (3·75-5·79) in 1984-98 and to 3·49 infections per 100 000 person-years (2·83-4·16) in 1999-2013. The proportion of children with infections also declined with time, from 42 (76%) of 55 patients in 1969-83 to 26 (31%) of 84 in 1984-98 and to 22 (21%) of 106 in 1999-2013. Most cases occurred in coastal areas surrounded by marshy savannah (incidence of 21·08 per 100 000 person-years in Sinnamary and 21·18 per 100 000 person-years in Mana). Lesions mainly affected limbs (lower limbs 161 [66%] patients; upper limbs 60 [24%] patients). We diagnosed no bone infections. INTERPRETATION The decrease of M ulcerans infection incidence and the proportion of children with infections over a 45 year period in this ultra-peripheral French territory might have been mostly driven by improving living conditions, prophylactic recommendations, and access to health care. Abstract
BACKGROUND Paracoccidioidomycosis is a systemic fungal infection common in Latin America. Cutaneous involvement is frequent and usually affects multiple sites, being most frequently associated with lesions of the oropharyngeal mucosa. The cutaneous form on its own is rare. PATIENTS AND METHODS We report a case of paracoccidioidomycosis isolated from the ear of a 43-year-old immunocompetent man. The lesion consisted of a partially ulcerated plaque on the auricle of the left ear. Direct examination, histopathological examination and PCR revealed the presence in the skin lesion of yeasts identified as Paracoccidioides brasiliensis. DISCUSSION The sites of paracoccidioidomycosis on the ear can be confused with other tropical diseases frequently found in the Amazon region such as leishmaniasis, leprosy and lobomycosis. The absence of any other cutaneous sites in this case raised the question of whether the lesion was of primary or secondary origin.

Abstract
In a retrospective study set in French Guiana, the efficacy and tolerance of the intramuscular treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) with a single injection of pentamidine isethionate, at 7 mg/kg, were compared with those observed, earlier, using two such injections (given 48 h apart). Although 83.6% of the 281 patients given two injections each were cured, the single-injection protocol was generally as effective, curing 78.8% of 137 patients. The single-injection protocol was also associated with fewer adverse effects than the two-injection. In the treatment of "difficult" cases (those with satellite papules or relatively high numbers of amastigotes in their lesions), however, the two-injection protocol appeared significantly more effective than the single-injection. In French Guiana, therefore, patients with CL should be given one injection with pentamidine isethionate and only be given a second, 48 h later, if they have satellite papules and/or relatively high numbers of amastigotes in their lesions.

Abstract
Panton-Valentine Leucocidin (PVL), one of the β-barrel pore-forming staphylococcal leucotoxins, is known to be associated to furuncles and some severe community pneumonia. However, it is still uncertain how many other virulence factors are also associated to furuncles and what the risk factors of furuncles are in immuno-compromised status of patients, especially the HIV (+) patients. In this paper, we use antigen immunoprecipitation and multiplex PCR approach to determine the presence of 19 toxins, 8 adhesion factors and the PFGE profiles associated to furuncles in three independent patient study groups of S. aureus (SA) isolates collected from the Cayenne General Hospital (French Guiana). The patient groups were made of: 16 isolates from HIV (−) patients, 9 from HIV (+) patients suffering from furuncles, and 30 control isolates from patients with diverse secondary infected dermatitis. Our data reveals that the majority (96%) of SA strains isolated from HIV patient-derived furuncles significantly produced PVL (p<10−7), whereas only 10% of SA strains produced this toxin in secondary infected dermatosis. A high prevalence of LukE-LukD-producing isolates (56 to 78%) was recorded in patient groups. Genes encoding clumping factor B, collagen- and laminin-binding proteins (clfB, cna, lbp, respectively) were markedly frequent (30 to 55%), without being associated to a specific group. Pulse field gel electrophoresis evidenced 24 overall pulsotypes, whereas the 25 PVL-producing isolates were distributed into 15 non clonal fingerprints. These pulsotypes were not specific PVL-producing isolates. PVL appears to be the major virulence factor associated to furuncles in Europe and in South America regardless of the immune status of the HIV patients.

Abstract
We report the onset of an urban epidemic of human myiasis caused by Dermatobia hominis. To our knowledge, this is the first urban epidemic described for D. hominis. The epidemic was most likely related to exceptional weather conditions and notably high rainfall in January 2000, which may have facilitated the maturation of the pupae.

Abstract
In French Guiana cutaneous leishmaniasis occurs mainly in the localized form with L. guyanensis accounting for more than 90% of cases. Mucocutaneous leishmaniasis is uncommon (less than 2% of cases) with L. braziliensis accounting for all previously reported cases. The purpose of this report is to describe a case of mucocutaneous leishmaniasis due to L. guyanensis that led to diagnosis of HIV infection in a patient living in French Guiana.

Abstract
French Guyana borders Brazil with the second highest number of cases of leprosy in the world. The purpose of this retrospective study of leprosy cases diagnosed in Guyana between January 1997 and December 2006 was to calculate the incidence of the disease and to identify any special clinical and epidemiological features. A total of 90 new cases were recorded during the study period for a mean incidence of 0.53 cases/10,000 inhabitants/year. Since this incidence is below the 1/10,000 threshold defined by the World Health Organization, leprosy is no longer considered as a major public health issue in French Guyana. However it must be noted that while the number of "native leprosy" cases has declined, the number of Brazilian cases has increased (p<0.01). Brazilian leprosy has different epidemiological features, i.e., dominance of multibacillary forms and high incidence in gold panning and western regions of the country where the incidence is over 1/10,000 inhabitants/year.

BACKGROUND Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is a complex tumor of uncertain clonality. Studying the viral clonality of the human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) in KS to determine clonality of the tumors, a strategy that has been used previously with Epstein-Barr virus and its associated tumors, may elucidate whether multicentric (disseminated) KS lesions correspond to metastatic lesions or to expansions of independent clones. METHODS A series of 139 KS biopsies (from skin, lymph node, or tonsil) was obtained from 98 patients, with 59 biopsies from 18 patients with disseminated multicentric KS skin lesions. The degree of spindle cell infiltration in biopsies was established by direct observation of hematoxylin-eosin-stained sections, and HHV-8 viral load was quantified by real-time polymerase chain reaction. To determine cellular clonality, the size heterogeneity of the HHV-8-fused terminal repeat (TR) region was determined by probing of electrophoresed restricted genomic DNA from KS biopsies for the HHV-8 TR sequence. RESULTS HHV-8 clonality analysis was performed on the 62 samples for which sufficient DNA was obtained. Most samples corresponded to histologically nodular lesions with high spindle cell infiltration and high viral load. A clonal HHV-8 pattern was determined for 59 samples; 11 were found to be monoclonal and 48 to be oligoclonal. The informative samples that were from disseminated KS skin lesions (n = 26, from six patients) were either monoclonal or oligoclonal, and the size of HHV-8 episomes varied between these samples. CONCLUSION Although some tumor KS lesions were monoclonal expansions of HHV-8-infected spindle cells, most advanced lesions were oligoclonal proliferations. Furthermore, individual KS disseminated tumor skin lesions were found to represent distinct expansions of HHV-8-infected spindle cells. Thus, our results suggest that KS lesions, especially in patients with advanced skin tumors, are reactive proliferations rather than true malignancies with metastatic dissemination.

Abstract
Cytokines are increasingly recognized as important components of the cellular immune responses to intracellular pathogens. In this study, we analyzed the production of TGF-beta, IL-10 and IFN-gamma by PBMC of unexposed naïve subjects and LCL patients after stimulation with live Leishmania guyanensis (L.g.). We demonstrated that IFN-gamma is produced in controls and LCL patients, IL-10 only in LCL patients and TGF-beta only in naïve subjects. Furthermore, in naive subjects, neutralization of TGF-beta induced IL-10 production. IL-10 produced in naïve subjects when TGF-beta is neutralized or in LCL patients did not modify the IFN-gamma production but inhibit reactive nitrogen species production. Analysis of the phenotype of IL-10 producing cells in naive subjects when TGF-beta is neutralized clearly showed that they are memory CD45RA- CD8+ T cells. In LCL patients, IL-10 producing cells are both CD45RA- CD4 and CD8+ T cells. The role of these IL-10 producing CD8+ T cells in the development of the diseases should be carefully evaluated.

Abstract
We report the occurrence of myiasis owing to Dermatobia hominis (Dh) in a HIV-infected subject. HIV infection did not modify the pathogenicity of myiasis. However, the clinical presentation seemed unusual with voluminous inflammatory nodules. Use of topical ivermectin killed the larvae and facilitated their extraction.

Abstract
Peripheral blood mononuclear cells from subjects never exposed to Leishmania were stimulated with Leishmania guyanensis. We demonstrated that L. guyanensis-stimulated CD8(+) T cells produced interferon (IFN)- gamma and preferentially expressed the V beta 14 T cell receptor (TCR) gene family. In addition, these cells expressed cutaneous lymphocyte antigen and CCR4 surface molecules, suggesting that they could migrate to the skin. Results obtained from the lesions of patients with localized cutaneous leishmaniaisis (LCL) showed that V beta 14 TCR expression was increased in most lesions (63.5%) and that expression of only a small number of V beta gene families (V beta 1, V beta 6, V beta 9, V beta 14, and V beta 24) was increased. The presence of V beta 14 T cells in tissue confirmed the migration of these cells to the lesion site. Thus, we propose the following sequence of events during infection with L. guyanensis. After initial exposure to L. guyanensis, CD8(+) T cells preferentially expressing the V beta 14 TCR and secreting IFN- gamma develop and circulate in the periphery. During the infection, these cells migrate to the skin at the site of the parasitic infection. The role of these V beta 14 CD8(+) T cells in resistance to infection remains to be determined conclusively.

Abstract
Demodecidosis is an ectoparasitosis that is infrequently observed in subjects with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. It has a rosacea-like presentation. We present three cases in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Two of these patients had a profuse eruption, and all three cases were cured by ivermectin. The single-dose treatment could be repeated in cases of subsequent recurrence. Ivermectin thus seems to be a good alternative in the treatment of demodecidosis in patients with HIV infection.

Abstract
Abstract The larval stages of the fly Cochliomyia hominivorax are responsible for myiasis, which primarily affects wounds. We report the case of a bed-ridden patient with dementia who developed right nasal myiasis during his stay at Cayenne Hospital. Progression was favorable, but the nasal pyramid was partially destroyed. In zones where this fly is endemic, particular attention should be given to hospitalized patients with wounds and consciousness problems.

Abstract
The dual purpose of this study was to determine the genotype of patients with oculocutaneous albinism type 1 and 2 based on analysis of tyrosinase and P gene mutations and to attempt to establish a correlation between phenotype and genotype. This study included a total of 21 Caucasian, Indian and Black African patients from La Reunion, la Martinique, French Guyana and Mayotte. PCR-sequencing of genomic DNA was performed to detect tyrosinase gene mutations and PCR-separation of PCR products by agarose gel electrophoresis was performed to detect 2.7kb deletion allele of the P gene. Tyrosinase gene mutations were identified in two cases, i.e., on eheterozygous guanine "g" deletion (c.572 delG) with a frameshift (Gly191fs) resulting in apremature termination signal at codon 225 in a Caucasian patient from La Reunion and one homozygous missense mutation, Glycine419Arginine, in an Indian patient from La Reunion. The 2.7-kb deletion allele of the P gene was detected in three Black African patients, i.e. two in the homozygous state in siblings from Mayotte and one in the heterozygous state in a girl from la Martinique. The latter patient whose mother was from la Martinique inherited the mutation from her father who was from Cameroon. This study shows that characterization of tyrosinase and P gene mutations in albinos patients is crucial to (a) differentiate subjects with oculocutaneous albinism types 1 and 2 and establish a correlation between phenotype and genotype, (b) identify healthy heterozygous carriers among the patient's immediate family (parents and siblings) and (c) allow prenatal diagnosis during subsequent pregnancies in couples who have already engendered albino children with severe visual phenotype and documented mutation(s).

Abstract
Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) has been shown to be a central immunomodulator used by leishmaniae to escape effective mechanisms of protection in human and murine infections with these parasites. However, all the information is derived from studies of established infection, while little is known about TGF-beta production in response to Leishmania stimulation in healthy subjects. In this study, TGF-beta1 production was demonstrated in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from healthy subjects never exposed to leishmaniae in response to live Leishmania guyanensis, and the TGF-beta1-producing cells were described as a distinct subpopulation of CD4(+) CD25(+) regulatory T cells. The suppressive properties of CD4(+) CD25(+) T cells were demonstrated in vitro by their inhibition of production of interleukin 2 (IL-2) and IL-10 by CD4(+) CD25(-) T cells in the presence of either anti-CD3 or L. guyanensis. Although neutralization of TGF-beta1 did not reverse the suppressive activity of CD4(+) CD25(+) T cells activated by anti-CD3, it reversed the suppressive activity of CD4(+) CD25(+) T cells activated by L. guyanensis. Altogether our data demonstrated that TGF-beta1 is involved in the suppressive activity of L. guyanensis-stimulated CD4(+) CD25(+) T cells from healthy controls.

Abstract
Immune reconstitution syndrome (IRIS) is an unusual inflammatory reaction to an opportunistic infection in an HIV-positive patient. This syndrome occurs when immunity is restored in the first months of an effective highly active antiretroviral treatment (HAART). First, we described all patients with a cutaneous form of IRIS. Then, between 1992 and 2004 we conducted a retrospective cohort study comparing Herpes Zoster and Herpes Simplex infections among untreated patients, patients treated by HAART for < or = six months, and patients treated for > six months. We observed three cases of atypical leprosy and three original observations: two of these were fistulisation of lymph node histoplasmosis and tuberculosis, the third one reports the recurrence of a treated cutaneous leishmaniasis. Multivariate analysis showed that, after controlling for age, sex and CD4 counts, patients receiving HAART for < or = six months were more likely to develop Herpes Zoster or herpes simplex infections (p < 0.005). Herpes Simplex and Herpes Zoster infections are the two most frequent dermatological manifestations in our tropical setting. Although mycobacterial infections are more rarely observed than in visceral IRIS, the increased incidence of leprosy may be quite significant when the availability of HAART spreads to developing countries.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Few data are available on cutaneous leishmaniasis caused by dermotropic species in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patients. OBJECTIVES To describe nine cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis in HIV+ patients and to compare their clinical features and their response to treatment with those of HIV- patients with the forms of leishmaniasis commonly found in French Guiana. METHODS A case-control study was carried out between July 1994 and December 2000 in French Guiana. We compared the following variables in nine HIV-infected patients with leishmaniasis and 27 matched controls: clinical type of leishmaniasis, number of lesions, presence of lymphangitis and adenopathy, the rate of recovery after treatment, and recurrence or reinfection. RESULTS Eight of the HIV-infected patients had localized cutaneous leishmaniasis and one had mucocutaneous leishmaniasis. All of the controls had localized cutaneous leishmaniasis. Leishmania guyanensis was the only species isolated from HIV-infected subjects. HIV-Leishmania coinfected patients had a higher rate of recurrence or reinfection (P < 0.02) and a lower rate of recovery after one treatment cycle with pentamidine (P < 0.02) than did HIV- subjects. The CD4+ lymphocyte counts exceeded 200 mm(-3) in all HIV+ patients at the time of the diagnosis with leishmaniasis. CONCLUSIONS In French Guiana, cutaneous leishmaniasis in moderately immunosuppressed HIV-infected subjects (> 200 CD4+ T cells mm(-3)) is characterized by a higher rate of recurrence or reinfection and is more difficult to treat than that in HIV- subjects.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Histoplasma capsulatum var capsulatum is a dimorphic fungi predominating on the American continent. It is responsible for disseminated histoplasmosis associated with AIDS. The presentation in the form of cutaneous ulceration is uncommon and misleading. OBSERVATION A 25 year-old man presented with 3 ulcerations, of 2 to 4 cm in diameter, localized on the lower lip and knees. The patient exhibited fever, alteration in his general status of health and a pulmonary interstitial syndrome. He was seropositive for the human immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV). His lymphocyte CD4+ level was of 1/mm3. Diagnosis of histoplasmosis was established by direct examination and culture of the cutaneous ulcerations and bronchoalveolar washing fluid. DISCUSSION The clinical aspect of cutaneous localizations of disseminated histoplasmosis is usually multiple, disseminated, papular or nodular-type lesions. Ulcerations represent less than 20% of the cases described. In our patient, the aspect of the lesions at first evoked cutaneous leishmaniosis. Direct mycological examination followed by culture confirmed the final diagnosis.

Abstract
THE SITUATION: Buruli's ulcer is a severe necrotic cutaneous infection due to Mycobacterium ulcerans. It is a major public health problem in developing countries. FROM A CLINICAL POINT OF VIEW: The early stage of the infection corresponds to a painless cutaneous nodule, whereas the late stage corresponds to ulceration with detachment of the edges. There is currently no other treatment than surgical excision combined with heat therapy. FROM A DIAGNOSTIC POINT OF VIEW: Three methods can be used: direct examination of swabs stained according to Ziehl-Neelsen's method, culture in specific medium at 32 degrees C and the polymerization chain reaction assay (PCR). The latter is the technique of choice.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Paracoccidio-domycosisis a deep mycosis due to a dimorphic fungus:Paracoccidioides brasiliensis. The principle endemic country is Brazil. We describe the first case of paracoccidio-domycosis, in its cutaneous-mucosal form, diagnosed in French Guiana. OBSERVATION A 20 year-old Brazilian man, having mover to French Guiana a few months earlier, presented with multiple disseminated cutaneous lesions, predominating on the face, and composed of multiple nodules and two ulcerations. The clinical examination also revealed voluminous superficial lymph nodes and ulcerations of the pharynx and larynx. Direct examination, anatomopathology and culture of cutaneous biopsies revealed specific images of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis. HIV serology was negative. Treatment combining cotrimoxazole and itraconazole eliminated the lesions in one month. DISCUSSION Because the patient had just moved to Guiana, this observation probably corresponded to an imported disease. The principle differential diagnosis was leishmaniosis.

Abstract
PURPOSE To report nine cases of external ophthalmomyiasis caused by Dermatobia hominis. METHODS Retrospective, non-comparative, interventional case series. Participants consisted of patients (n = 9) presenting at Cayenne Hospital between 1968 and 2003. The location and number of larvae, the larval stage, and the medical and surgical procedures applied were studied in each case. RESULTS Seven patients had palpebral myiasis (including one with three larvae) and two had conjunctival myiasis. Every patient had palpebral oedema. The larval respiratory pore was located on the palpebral skin or free margin or on the conjunctiva. Movements were present within the lesion in at least three patients. Petroleum ointment or ivermectine solution was used in at least four patients to smother or kill the larvae. Extraction under local anaesthesia was possible in six patients, while three required general anaesthesia. CONCLUSION Several larvae may be present in a patient. Topical ivermectine may help to kill the larvae before extraction is attempted.

Abstract
Disseminated cutaneous leishmaniasis is characterized by the presence of a large (> or =10) number of lesions at several anatomic sites (head, limbs, and trunk). Most of the lesions are small, papular, and appear simultaneously with or secondarily to one or several ulcerated lesions of localized cutaneous leishmaniasis. We report the first case of disseminated cutaneous leishmaniasis in French Guiana. It concerns a 24-year-old woman who tested negative for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The disease began with three lesions that became ulcerated. One week later, multiple papulo-nodular lesions appeared. We counted a total of 425 lesions. Leishmania were observed in the lesions. The species involved was L. guyanensis, which has never been described in a case of disseminated cutaneous leishmaniasis. The patient was rapidly cured by a single course of pentamidine. Disseminated cutaneous leishmaniasis should be distinguished from other types of leishmaniasis with multiple lesions. These include anergic diffuse cutaneous leishmaniasis, post-kala-azar leishmaniasis, and leishmaniasis associated with HIV infection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) is an unusual inflammatory reaction to an opportunistic infection that occurs in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive patients with profound immunosuppression during the reconstitution of the immune system in the initial months of highly active antiretroviral treatment. OBSERVATIONS We describe 3 cases of leprosy occurring in patients treated with a combination of 3 antiretroviral drugs who fulfilled the criteria for IRIS. A reactional state occurred in all 3 cases. Two of the 3 patients presented an unusual ulcerous progression of the lesions not generally observed in cases of leprosy. The outcome was favorable in all 3 cases. The frequency of IRIS associated with leprosy in French Guiana and Martinique is estimated at 3 cases per 1000 HIV-positive patients receiving highly active antiretroviral treatment. CONCLUSION Leprosy should be recognized as an IRIS-associated infection with possibility of atypical presentation.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Azithromycine is recommended in the treatment of donovanosis with a 7-day treatment cycle. We report the efficacy of a single cure of 1 gram in two patients. OBSERVATIONS Four patients, presenting with donovanosis, were treated with azithromycine according to 2 regimens. The first used 500 mg/d the molecule during 1 week, the second used azithromycine in single cure of 1 gram. The latter led to the complete cure of 2 patients. DISCUSSION Many antibiotics are used in the treatment of donovanosis. Since 1996, Australian authors have used azithromycine in this indication. A single dose of this molecule appears effective in recent and confined donovanosis.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Infective dermatitis is a chronic childhood dermatosis, associated with HTLV-1 infection. We report the observation of a young Haitian girl in French Guyana. OBSERVATION An 8 year-old girl presented recurring dermatosis on the scalp and armpits since she was 2 years old. The initial clinical examination showed the presence of centro-facial micro-papules, associated with a nasal pyodermatitis. A bacteriological culture isolated a Staphylococcus aureus. Phenotypic analysis did not indicate any production of exfoliatin or leucocidin. Serologic tests for HTLV1 were positive. In addition, the child presented recurring symptomatic anguillulosis, despite numerous antihelmintic treatments. A clinical and parasitological cure was obtained with a monthly treatment of ivermectin. COMMENTS This is the first case of infective dermatitis reported in french Guyana. The clinical analysis that led to this diagnosis showed a minor form of this dermatosis. The phenotypic analysis of the Staphylococcus aureus isolated from the cutaneous lesions did not indicate any factors of virulence habitually associated with pyodermatitis in Guyana. This is the first case of chronic digestive anguillulosis (a parasitic complaint usually associated with an adult HTLV-1 infection) associated with an infective dermatitis.
