Abstract
Although studies suggest that cognitive functions in the elderly are impaired, elderly people tend to be more successful and wiser in solving emotional problems. In empathy-like behavior models, the observer rat rescues the distressed cage mate by displaying emotional and cognitive ability. The aim of the study was to investigate the changes in empathy-like behavior in older rats in comparison to adult rats. In addition, we wanted to determine the effects of alterations in neurochemicals (such as corticosterone, oxytocin, vasopressin, and their receptor levels) and emotional situations on this behavior. In our study, we initially completed empathy-like behavior tests and emotional tests (open field, elevated plus maze) and performed neurochemical examinations in the serum and brain tissues. In the second step of research, we applied a midazolam (benzodiazepine) treatment to examine the effect of anxiety on empathy-like behavior. In the old rats, we observed that empathy-like behavior deteriorated, and anxiety signs were more pronounced. We detected a positive correlation between the latency in empathy-like behavior and corticosterone levels and v1b receptor levels. The midazolam effect on empathy-like behavior was attenuated by flumazenil (a benzodiazepine receptor antagonist). The recordings of ultrasonic vocalization showed frequencies around 50 kHz emitted by the observer and this was associated with the expectation of social contact. Our results state that compared to adult rats, old rats were more concerned and failed during empathy-like behavior. Midazolam may improve this behavior by anxiolysis.

Abstract
Magnesium is being investigated in various clinical conditions and has shown to be effective in some chronic pain models. However, it is not clear if oral magnesium use affects pain perception in acute pain. TLR4's (toll-like receptor) role in pain perception has emerged through its role in immune pathways and ion channels. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of a single oral dose of magnesium citrate on pain conduction and whether with magnesium, the expression of TLR4 changes in the acute phase. Following a single dose of 66-mg/kg magnesium citrate administration to male Balb-c mice, pain perception (via hot-plate test), motor conduction (via electrophysiological recording, forelimb grip strength, rotarod and open-field tests), and emotional state (via elevated plus maze and forced swim test) were evaluated. In behavioral experiments, the control group was compared with applied magnesium for three different time groups (4, 8, 24 h). TLR4 expression was measured in four groups: control, magnesium (Mg), hot plate (HP), and Mg + HP. Hot plate latency was prolonged in the magnesium group (p < 0.0001) and electrophysiological recordings (p < 0.001) and forelimb grip strength measurement (p < 0.001) determined motor latency. Compared with the untreated hot plate group, TLR4 levels was lower in the brain (p = 0.023) and higher in the sciatic nerve (p = 0.001) in the magnesium-treated hot plate group. Consequently, the study indicated a single dose of magnesium citrate appeared to cause weakening in the transmission and perception of nociceptive pain. TLR4 may act as a regulator in magnesium's effects on pain perception.

Abstract
Physical exercise improves learning and memory abilities by increasing the levels of several growth factors in the hippocampus. One growth factor, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), is primarily produced in the muscles and not only increases in the periphery during exercise but can also cross the blood-brain barrier. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of regular aerobic chronic exercise on different types of muscle fibers and the relationships between learning/memory and muscle induced-VEGF. Following a one-week adaptation period, male rats underwent treadmill training at a speed of 8 m/min for 30 min daily, 3 days a week for 6 weeks. Memory functions were evaluated using the Morris water maze. VEGF, superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were measured in type 1 and type 2 muscle fibers and VEGF levels were also measured in the hippocampus. Exercise positively affected both learning and memory and also increased VEGF levels in both muscle fiber types. Muscle VEGF levels positively correlate with hippocampal learning and hippocampal VEGF levels. Exercise reduced both SOD and MDA levels in type 1 and type 2 muscle fibers, whereas GPx levels decreased only in type 2 muscle fibers. Our findings suggest that regular aerobic exercise elevates VEGF levels and diminishes oxidative stress in both fiber types. Exercise-induced VEGF levels in both type 1 and 2 muscle fibers appear to be associated with the positive effect of exercise on learning and memory function and is accompanied by an increase in VEGF levels in the hippocampus. Further research is needed to elucidate the exact mechanism by which fiber type-specific VEGF mediates hippocampal neurogenesis and angiogenesis. Abstract
Aims The aim of this study was to evaluation the treatment success of the short post technique (mushroom restoration) using a composite resin in severely decayed primary anterior teeth after 6, 12, and 18 months after treatment. Methods Eighteen children aged 3-5 years with severely decayed primary maxillary anterior teeth (60 anterior maxillary primary teeth in total) were included. Patients were treated under general anesthesia (GA). After pulpectomy, a "mushroom shape" was formed in the root canals for the purpose of retention, and the root canals were filled with zinc oxide-eugenol (ZOE), and the teeth were restored with composite resin. The status of treatment was evaluated clinically and radiographically for periapical radiolucency, pathological root resorption, marginal fracture, and loss of restoration for each treated tooth. All findings were recorded. Results As a result of the evaluation criteria, the success rates at 6, 12 and 18 months were 86%, 80%, and 71%, respectively. None of the teeth showed apical radiolucency or pathological root resorption at the end of the 18th month period. Conclusion The short-post (mushroom restorations) technique is a clinically acceptable alternative method for restoration of severely decayed primary teeth. This study supports the feasibility of treatment with this technique for pediatric patients treated under GA.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Understanding potential problems associated with primary double teeth (PDT) are important to provide prophylactic measures, thereby preventing or minimizing possible complications. The purposes of this study were to investigate the prevalence of PDT in a group of Turkish children and to compare the distribution of the different types of double primary teeth and their relationship to permanent successors. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 17,268 children underwent a clinical examination to determine the presence of PDT. One hundred fifty-two PDT of 128 children were included in this study. All the 128 children with PDT underwent a clinical examination and had photographs taken at the time of the examination. The children underwent a further periapical or panoramic radiographic examination to determine the status of the underlying permanent successors. The PDT was classified according to Aguilo's classification. RESULTS The prevalence of PDT was 0.74%, with no significant statistical difference between the sexes. PDT was most frequently observed between the mandibular lateral incisors and canines. Of the 152 PDT, 10.7% were Type I, 15.3% were Type II, 26.1% were Type III, and 47.9% were Type IV. Dental anomalies on the succedaneous permanent teeth were diagnosed in 69.4% of the children with affected primary dentition. Aplasia of the permanent lateral incisor was observed most frequently in association with Type I (52.7%) PDT. Caries involvement was observed most frequently in Type III (56.2%) PDT. CONCLUSION The findings of this study have clinical relevance for the diagnosis of children with PDT. Early clinical and radiographic identification of PDT can help the clinician to evaluate the number and condition of permanent successors and draw up a proper treatment plan.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Different polishing kits may have different effects on the composite resin surfaces. The aim of this study was to evaluate the surface roughness and color stability of four different composites which was applied different polishing technique. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty specimens were made for each composite resin group (nanohybrid, GrandioSo-GS; nanohybrid, Clearfil Majesty Esthetic-CME; hybrid, Valux Plus-VP; micro-hybrid, Ruby Comp-RC; [15 mm in diameter and 2 mm height]), with the different monomer composition and particle size from a total of 120 specimens. Each composite group was divided into three subgroups (n = 10). The first subgroup of the each composite subgroups served as control (C) and had no surface treatment. The second subgroup of the each composite resin groups was polished with finishing discs (Bisco Finishing Discs; Bisco Inc., Schaumburg, IL, USA). The third subgroup of the each composite resin was polished with polishing wheel (Enhance and PoGo, Dentsply, Konstanz, Germany). The surface roughness and the color differences measurement of the specimens were made and recorded. The data were compared using Kruskal-Wallis test, and regression analysis was used in order to examine the correlation between surface roughness and color differences of the specimens (α = 0.05). RESULTS The Kruskal-Wallis test indicated significant difference among the composite resins in terms of ΔE (P < 0.05), and there was no statistically significant difference among composite resins in terms of surface roughness (P > 0.05). Result of the regression analysis indicated statistically significant correlation between Ra and ΔE values (P < 0.05, r2 = 0.74). CONCLUSION The findings of the present study have clinical relevance in the choice of polishing kits used.

Abstract
We have recently shown that regular voluntary aerobic exercised rats have low levels of anxiety. Irisin is an exercise-induced myokine that is produced by many tissues; and the role it plays in anxiolytic behavior is unknown. In this study we aimed to investigate the correlation between anxiety like behavior and irisin levels following regular voluntary aerobic exercise in male mice. We've have shown that anxiety levels decreased in exercised mice, while irisin levels increased in the brain, brown adipose tissue, white adipose tissue, kidney, and pancreas tissues. No significant difference of irisin levels in the liver, muscle and serum were detected in the exercise group, when compared to controls. In addition, there was a strong positive correlation between brain irisin levels and activity in middle area of open field test and in the open arms of elevated plus maze test; both which are indicators of low anxiety levels. Our results suggest that decrease in anxiolytic behavior due to regular voluntary exercise may be associated with locally produced brain irisin. White adipose tissue irisin levels also correlated very strongly with low anxiety. However, no serum irisin increase was detected, ruling out the possibility of increased peripheral irisin levels affecting the brain via the bloodstream. Further research is necessary to explain the mechanisms of which peripheral and central irisin effects anxiety and the brain region affected.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are a severe group of neurodevelopmental disorders that are characterized by impairment in social communication, and imagination and social interaction. The aetiology of autism is complex, but some studies suggest autoimmunity to the central nervous system in the pathogenesis. The aim of this study is to investigate the positivity of antineuronal antibodies including anti-glutamic acid decarboxylase antibodies (anti-GAD), anti-glutamate receptor (anti-GluR) antibodies and seven types of anti-ganglioside antibodies, in children with autism. METHODS We conducted the study over a period of one year from May 2012 to December 2013. Human anti-GAD in serum were investigated with ELISA; human autoantibodies against the N-methyl-D-aspartate subtype of GluR were investigated with indirect immunofluorescence test; class IgG antibodies against the seven gangliosides were investigated with immunoblot assay. RESULTS Serum antineuronal antibodies were measured in 42 children (24 male, 18 female) with autism in comparison to 21 (13 male, 8 female) healthy-matched children aged between 2-12 years. There was no seropositivity of antineuronal antibodies in either of the groups. CONCLUSION There is no evidence to support an association between autism and antibodies positivity of anti-GAD, anti-GluR and anti-gangliosides (Ref. 26).

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of preoperative ultrasound-guided (US) intercostal nerve block (ICNB) in the 11th and 12th intercostal spaces on postoperative pain control and tramadol consumption in patients undergoing percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). METHODS After obtaining ethical committee approval and written informed patient consent, 40 patients were randomly allocated to the ICNB group or the control group. For the ICNB group US-guided ICNB was performed with 0.5 % bupivacaine and 1/200,000 epinephrine at the 11th and 12th intercostal spaces after premedication. A sham block was performed for the control group and postoperative pain and tramadol consumption were recorded by anesthesiologists blinded to the treatment. RESULTS Postoperative visual analog scale scores at all follow-up times were found to be significantly lower in the ICNB group than in the control group (p < 0.05). The mean 24 h intravenous tramadol consumption was 97.5 ± 39.5 mg for the ICNB group which was significantly lower than the 199.7 ± 77.6 mg recorded for the control group (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION In PCNL with nephrostomy tube placement US-guided ICNB performed at the 11th and 12th intercostal spaces provided effective analgesia.

Abstract
It is well known that diabetes mellitus may cause neuropsychiatric disorders such as anxiety disorders. Diabetes may also cause reduced IGF-1 (insulin like growth factor-1) levels in brain and blood. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between diabetes induced anxiety and IGF-1 levels in diabetic rats. The anxiety levels of rats were assessed 2 weeks after intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin. Diabetic rats had higher levels of anxiety, as they spent more time in closed branches in elevated-plus-maze-test and less time in the center cells of open-field-arena. Prefrontal cortex (PFC) IGF-1 levels and neuron numbers were decreased and apoptosis was increased in diabetic rats. Blood IGF-1 levels decreased in a time dependent fashion following streptozotocin injection while blood corticosterone levels increased. They had higher malondialdehyde levels and lower superoxide dismutase enzyme activity. Oxidative stress may negatively affect blood and PFC tissue IGF-1 levels. Reduction in IGF-1 may cause PFC damage, which may eventually trigger anxiety in diabetic rats. Therapeutic strategies that increase blood and brain tissue IGF-1 levels may be promising to prevent psychiatric sequelae of diabetes mellitus.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the multi detector computed tomographic (CT) depiction of middle lobe vein variation of the right pulmonary vein and create a diagram for cardiologist and cardiovascular surgeons. MATERIALS AND METHODS According to hospital records, between January 2009 and April 2010, 314 consecutive patients underwent pulmonary CT angiography (CTPA) and coronary CT angiography. The CT films from these patients were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS Under normal conditions, the middle pulmonary vein (MPV) drains into the left atrium either by the "direct" or "indirect" route. Direct (37 patients, 11.8%) drainage means that the MPV does not drain into the upper or lower pulmonary veins but instead drains directly into the right pulmonary vein system. In contrast, indirect (276 patients, 87.9%) drainage occurs when the MPV drains into the upper or lower pulmonary veins. In this study, 12 different variations in drainage patterns were found. CONCLUSION Increasing the number of patients may have led to the identification of additional variants. However, clinically important variations are rarely seen. Correct mapping of the MPV is very important for cardiologists and for surgeons in order to provide the best treatment and avoid complications.

Abstract
Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome (RTS) is a rare autosomal dominant genetic disorder and is characterized by mental retardation, distinctive facial features, broad and often angulated thumbs and great toes. We report on a 7 year old boy with classical Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome. His facial and clinical features were very typical, including broad thumbs with radial angulation and broad great toes. Rigorous genetic analysis of the CREBBP and EP300 genes using DNA sequencing and multiple ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) revealed no causative mutation in this boy, only a hitherto unreported but paternally inherited heterozygous sequence alteration, c.506 1+9C>T in IVS 30-31, which most likely represents a normal variant (NetGene 2 splice prediction software). We question if this boy could have a hitherto undetectable mutation type.

Autism with dell5Sp.11.1: case report with a new cytogenetic finding: Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder and believed to be mainly genetic in origin, and environmental factors may modulate phenotypic expression. Less than four percent of cases of autism are associated with chromosomal abnormalities. Cytogenetic abnormalities found at the 15q11-q13 locus are reported most frequently in patients with autism. We performed GTG-banding and FISH studies to the present case and his parents and found a maternally inherited deletion on chromosome 15p in this case. With an understanding of the many genetic causes of autism, prenatal screening and counseling may one day become available for affected families as more autism-causing conditions become diagnosable.

Abstract
A provisionally unique syndrome with features including "molar tooth" sign and "femoral hypoplasia": The femoral-facial syndrome (FH-UFS) is a rare syndrome of uncertain inheritance comprising hypoplastic femora, microretrognathia, and peculiar facies. We describe a new case with facial dysmorphism, broad chest and widely spaced nipples, shorter right lower limb with femoral hypoplasia and unilateral fibular hemimelia, bilateral absence of 5th metatarsal and toe, and bilateral talipes equinovarus. In addition, a complete agenesis of corpus callosum, cerebellar vermis hypoplasia with molar tooth sign and Dandy-Walker malformation were present. Posterior fossa abnormalities in FH-UFS have not been described in the literature until now, thus extending the clinical spectrum of this entity. Other syndromes characterized by femoral hypoplasia and/or molar tooth sign are also discussed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The accessory obturator nerve (AON) often innervates the hip joint and adductor longus. The AON is present in 10-30% of patients, and thus it is clinically important that it is also considered during obturator nerve (ON) blockade. METHODS The study was performed on 12 cadavers (24 body-sides) and the AON beginning from the lumbar plexus was observed. The needle was classically penetrated into the ON to gain access to the AON and upon definition of detailed AON anatomy, morphometric measurements were conducted. In addition, novel maneuvers used in the study were described. RESULTS Throughout the dissections, the AON was detected on three sides (12.5%) and the mean AON- pubic tubercle distance was measured as 4.0 cm. The needle was withdrawn and positioned medially and almost parallel to the skin. It was then advanced through the superior pubic ramus to reach the AON. CONCLUSION Owing to its anatomical structure, the AON can be easily accessed during classical ON blockade using the maneuvers described here. Further clinical studies are needed to investigate if supplementing ON blockade with AON blockade might improve the clinical efficiency and quality of the blockade.

Abstract
To review clinical, radiological and histopathological findings of adult intussusception and its management, 18 adult patients who had been treated surgically because of intussusception were reviewed. Of the patients, 5 (27.8%) had idiopathic intussusceptions, while the other 13 (72.2%) had a definable intraluminal pathology. The site of the intussusception was more common in the small bowel (83.3%) than the colon (16.7%). Ultrasonography and computed tomography were successful in demonstrating "target lesion" in 80% and 75% respectively. Patients with idiopathic intussusception were treated with simple reduction, while the others underwent segmental resection because of the possibility of malignant tumour. In contrast to intussusception in childhood, intussusception in adults usually has a definable lead point and resection of the involved bowel, rather than simple reduction, is indicated.

Abstract
Joubert syndrome (JS) is an autosomal-recessive disorder, characterized by hypotonia, ataxia, global developmental delay and molar tooth sign on magnetic resonance imaging. A variety of other abnormalities have been described in children with JS, including abnormal breathing, abnormal eye movements, a characteristic facial appearance, delayed language, hypersensitivity to noise, autism, ocular and oculomotor abnormalities, meningoencephaloceles, microcephaly, low-set ears, polydactyly, retinal dysplasia, kidney abnormalities (renal cysts), soft tissue tumor of the tongue, liver disease and duodenal atresia. Even within siblings the phenotype may vary, making it difficult to establish the exact clinical diagnostic boundaries of JS. We review the clinical characteristics of seven cases that fulfill the criteria of JS.

Abstract
Eighteen patients with chronic isolated rheumatic mitral regurgitation aged between 7 and 19 years (mean age +/-SD, 12.69+/-3.47 years) were analyzed with color Doppler imaging. Sixteen patients were performed cardiac catheterization within 24 h. Jets were classified as eccentric and central. Regurgitant jet area and its ratio to left atrial area and body surface area were measured by Doppler color flow imaging. Regurgitant volume and regurgitant fractions were calculated with angiography. There was a good correlation between regurgitant jet area and angiographic grade of mitral regurgitation (P<0.01). The correlation between regurgitant jet area/left atrial area ratios and angiographic grade of mitral regurgitation was limited (P<0.01). There was excellent correlation between regurgitant jet area/body surface area and angiographic regurgitant fraction (r = 0.85; P<0.001). There was also a good correlation between regurgitant jet area and regurgitant fraction (r = 0.82; P<0.001). However, the relation of regurgitant jet area/left atrial area to regurgitant fraction was weak (r = 0.72; P<0.01). In conclusion, the measurement of regurgitant fraction and its ratios to left atrial area and body surface area by color Doppler flow imaging can predict the angiographic severity in children who have even eccentric regurgitant jets.
