Abstract
On December 5, 2022, an indirect drive fusion implosion on the National Ignition Facility (NIF) achieved a target gain G_{target} of 1.5. This is the first laboratory demonstration of exceeding "scientific breakeven" (or G_{target}>1) where 2.05 MJ of 351 nm laser light produced 3.1 MJ of total fusion yield, a result which significantly exceeds the Lawson criterion for fusion ignition as reported in a previous NIF implosion [H. Abu-Shawareb et al. (Indirect Drive ICF Collaboration), Phys. Rev. Lett. 129, 075001 (2022)PRLTAO0031-900710.1103/PhysRevLett.129.075001]. This achievement is the culmination of more than five decades of research and gives proof that laboratory fusion, based on fundamental physics principles, is possible. This Letter reports on the target, laser, design, and experimental advancements that led to this result.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AIM Most laboratory requests focus on the detection of possible vitamin B12 deficiency. In this context, methylmalonic acid (MMA) is reported as the best biomarker. The aim of our study was to establish the biological reference interval for MMA in urine, and assess the influence of age, sex, and vitamin B12 status on MMA concentrations. METHODS This is a prospective observational study considering individuals with normal results for blood count and liver and kidney function. Individuals who presented supplementation, any pathology or treatment that could cause cobalamin metabolism disorders, and pregnant women were excluded. Likewise, individuals whose vitamin B12 result presented antibody-mediated interference were excluded. Individuals were grouped by age-group and sex. Reference intervals were determined by non-parametric calculation (percentiles 1-99). RESULTS It was established a single reference interval [0.52 (CI90%: 0.50-0.54) - 5.75 (CI90%: 5.57-6.17) mmolMMA/mol creatinine], with 100% of individuals with MMA above the upper limit of reference presenting a total vitamin B12 concentration ≤238pmol/L. CONCLUSION The establishment of optimal reference intervals for methylmalonic acid excretion in urine is crucial in individuals with a suspicion of functional vitamin B12 deficiency. However, the possibility of establishing a cut-off value for total vitamin B12 suggesting subclinical deficiency remains a challenge for this magnitude.

Abstract
BACKGROUND-AIM High vitamin B12 concentrations are considered a common finding in clinical practice. Thanks to immunoassay accessibility, vitamin B12 has become a usual test in routine health checkups. However, these analytical methods usually present antibody-mediated interferences. Our aim was to propose an algorithm for the screening of antibody-mediated analytical interferences on vitamin B12 immunoassays on the Alinity platform. METHODS Observational, prospective, case-control study was performed during 12 months. Individuals with persistently elevated cobalamin concentrations [>554 pmol/L] were considered as cases in the absence of supplementation or other justifying cause. Individuals under treatment with vitamin B12, or in the context of alcoholism were included as controls. A thorough interference study by macromolecules in immunoassays was performed in serum samples: PEG precipitation, rheumatoid factor, heterophile antibodies and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Albumin, total B12, IgG and IgM were measured in every GPC collected fraction and chromatograms were drafted. RESULTS Up to 45% of cases presented interference by B12-immunocomplexes and the precipitation for all of them was >50%. The individual with the lowest interfered vitamin B12 result was 661 pmol/L. CONCLUSION The presence of antibody-mediated interferences, mainly B12-immunocomplexes, is a relatively common phenomenon. A simple algorithm for the screening of interferences is useful and reliable in ruling out healthy individuals and highly cost-effective.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: While there is increased attention to underrepresented in medicine (URiM) faculty and students, little is known about what they value in faculty development experiences.
Methods: We performed a URiM-focused, 3-day family medicine faculty development program and then collected program evaluation forms. The program evaluations had open-ended questions and a reflection on the activity. We used inductive open coding using NVivo software. We analyzed open-ended responses and reflections, and identified themes.
Results: Seven participants provided reflections on the workshop and responses to the evaluation forms. Analysis revealed four major themes in the learners’ responses and reflections: (1) personalizing learning, (2) impacting career trajectories, (3) clarifying the writing process, and (4) creating a safe place, with frequencies of 28.2%, 26.7%, 23.6%, and 20.9%, respectively.
Conclusions: Although this faculty development experience was designed to teach writing skills to URiM junior faculty, their collective responses indicate that they found value beyond the skills taught and appreciated the approach taken in this activity.

Abstract
For more than half a century, researchers around the world have been engaged in attempts to achieve fusion ignition as a proof of principle of various fusion concepts. Following the Lawson criterion, an ignited plasma is one where the fusion heating power is high enough to overcome all the physical processes that cool the fusion plasma, creating a positive thermodynamic feedback loop with rapidly increasing temperature. In inertially confined fusion, ignition is a state where the fusion plasma can begin "burn propagation" into surrounding cold fuel, enabling the possibility of high energy gain. While "scientific breakeven" (i.e., unity target gain) has not yet been achieved (here target gain is 0.72, 1.37 MJ of fusion for 1.92 MJ of laser energy), this Letter reports the first controlled fusion experiment, using laser indirect drive, on the National Ignition Facility to produce capsule gain (here 5.8) and reach ignition by nine different formulations of the Lawson criterion.

Abstract
Purpose: Underrepresentation of racial and ethnic minorities in the health care workforce is a local and national issue. We describe and report on outcomes of a longitudinal service-driven prehealth pathway program in a low-income community intended to address this disparity and increase health equity. Methods: The Bronx Community Health Leaders (BxCHL) is a prehealth pathway program for socioeconomically disadvantaged and underrepresented minority students seeking careers in health care. The program enrolls students in college or college graduates and provides longitudinal near-peer mentorship, exposure to the health care environment, and supports professional development. An academic federally qualified health center serves as the program's home site and learning environment. We conducted surveys and tracked the career advancement of program participants over a 6-year period, 2014-2020. Results: One hundred sixty-eight students participated in BxCHL for >3 months. Of these, 76 students advanced into professional health career programs with 39 direct acceptances and 15 conditional acceptances to medical school programs, 9 nursing, 4 physician assistant, 9 health-related masters level programs, 1 respiratory therapy, and 1 optometry. The direct and overall acceptance (direct and conditional) rate of medical school applicants is 59% and 86%, respectively. The first 11 BxCHL alumni obtained their medical degree. Conclusions: BxCHL's longitudinal service-driven and near-peer mentorship program design represents a replicable model to address health equity by supporting prehealth students from communities with limited access to mentors and professional learning environments in entering the health care workforce and serving their communities of origin.

Abstract
Faculty from groups that are underrepresented in medicine encounter unique challenges to advancement within academic medicine. The authors describe a fellowship created for junior underrepresented in medicine academic faculty in Family Medicine focused on promoting writing skills and scholarship. Supplemental digital content is available in the text. Objectives The diversity of the US physician workforce lags significantly behind the population, and the disparities in academic medicine are even greater, with underrepresented in medicine (URM) physicians accounting for only 6.8% of all US medical school faculty. We describe a “for URM by URM” pilot approach to faculty development for junior URM Family Medicine physicians that targets unique challenges faced by URM faculty. Methods A year-long fellowship was created for junior URM academic clinician faculty with funding through the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine Project Fund. Seven junior faculty applied and were accepted to participate in the fellowship, which included conference calls and an in-person workshop covering topics related to writing and career advancement. Results The workshop included a mix of prepared programming on how to move from idea to project to manuscript, as well as time for spontaneous mentorship and manuscript collaboration. Key themes that emerged included how to address the high cost of the minority tax, the need for individual passion as a pathway to success, and how to overcome imposter syndrome as a hindrance to writing. Conclusions The “for URM by URM” approach for faculty development to promote writing skills and scholarship for junior URM Family Medicine physicians can address challenges faced by URM faculty. By using a framework that includes the mentors’ lived experiences and creates a psychological safe space, we can address concerns often overlooked in traditional skills-based faculty development programs.

Objectives
Young laboratory medicine professionals (YLMPs) are the future of clinical laboratories. Although everyday practice shows significant differences among countries, especially during residency training, most of them face the same challenges. Besides promoting scientific, professional and clinical aspects of laboratory medicine in Europe, the European Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (EFLM) should take into consideration YLMPs’ concerns and interests to help them achieve excellence. The aim of this survey was to assess the opinion and expectations of YLMPs about their involvement in the activities of EFLM.
Methods
An online survey was distributed to YLMPs in Europe through different channels. The questionnaire consisted of 21 items grouped into five sections: demographic questions, opinion about the current status of YLMPs within EFLM, YLMPs network, suggestions and opportunities, and scientific training and exchange. Where appropriate, responses from residents and specialists were compared.
Results
A total of 329 valid responses were obtained from 53 different countries. Countries with the highest number of participants were Spain, Turkey, Croatia and Romania. A significant percentage would like to know more about EFLM and their activities (86%) and wish EFLM promoted networking and scientific exchanges (95%), for instance by means of a European YLMPs network (93%). EFLMLabX project was widely unknown (75%).
Conclusions
YLMPs demand better connection to share concerns about daily healthcare duties, to keep updated and to advance professionally. EFLM needs to improve their advertising through national societies to increase YLMPs’ participation. In addition to international meetings and congresses, respondents have emphasized that workshops and other small group activities would significantly help promote laboratory medicine practice in Europe.

Abstract
The ongoing immigration crisis at the U.S. southern border represents a challenge to society and institutions. The socio-political discussion of immigration has reached and is likely to stay in the position of a top news category. It is hard to ignore the health care implications and negative health outcomes aff ecting Central American migrant families through their long journey to the U.S.-Mexico border. Additionally, radical changes in refugee/asylum policies are affecting how new migrants are being processed and connected to resources, which is affecting their care while detained. As individuals with familial ties to Central America, we share our knowledge of and perspective on contextual factors affecting migrant health. As health care professionals and scholars, we aim to trigger conversation and present a "call to action" to all stakeholders to address the health care needs of vulnerable Central American migrant families, who deserve high-quality and humanitarian care.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The ongoing pandemic of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has affected >2 million patients with approximately 900,000 cases in the United States alone. Medical education has possibly suffered during this time, due to disease mitigation strategies and stress on both students and teachers. We aimed to quantify the publications describing the impact of COVID-19 on medical education in the early stage of the pandemic. MATERIALS AND METHODS Abstract and titles related to COVID-19 listed in PubMed were reviewed for an educational focus. Articles with an educational focus were further evaluated for characteristics of content. RESULTS Out of a total of 3641 articles related to COVID-19, only 26 (0.7%) articles had an educational theme. Thirteen articles were pertaining to residency and fellowship education and twelve articles were focused on medical student education. Only one article referred to nursing education. CONCLUSIONS Publications pertaining to medical education during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic are few. There is an urgent need for scholarship to understand the best processes and develop innovative methods that can help improve the educational experience of students and trainees during this extraordinary time.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has infected more than 1.5 million patients worldwide and is associated with high morbidity and mortality. The volume of research published in a specialty, which may shed light on the perceived impact that a topic plays within that discipline, is unknown for the present pandemic. MATERIALS AND METHODS We analyzed all articles published in the first 3 months on COVID-19 and categorized them by journal type and article content. RESULTS There was a ~100-fold difference in articles published on COVID when categorized by journal type and ~65-fold difference when grouped by article content. CONCLUSIONS There is a wide variation in research published withing various specialties regarding COVID-19. Researchers across specialties need to urgently realize the impact of COVID-19 and publish articles that can help improve understanding of this ongoing pandemic.

Background and Aims
HEMO study showed that β2M level over time was predictive of all-cause mortality in haemodialysis patients (HD). Later studies suggested that protein-bound uremic toxins are associated with mortality in HD patients but with recent contrasting results.
Aim of study was to analyse β2M and indoxyl sulfate (IS) as predictor factors of mortality.
Method
5 years follow-up of 60 prevalent HD patients of our hospital. Demographic data was described. Baseline midweek pre-dialysis serum β2M was determined by nephelometry and total IS levels by high performance liquid chromatograph connected to a UV detector. We considered high serum β2M group as if was equal or higher than 27,5 mg/L. As to IS, patients were divided into quartiles (1q <9,7 mg/L, 2-3q ≥9.7-26.5mg/L, 4q>26.5 mg/L).
Survival curves were assessed using the Kaplan–Meier analysis at 1,2,3 and 5 years in univariate analysis for albumin (≥38 g/L or lower), β2M, and total IS groups, and evaluated by the proportional hazards Cox´s model. P -values <0.05 were considered statistically significant.
Results
60 prevalent patients with mean vintage of 46,8 months (range 3-299 months). Mean age was 60±20 years. Males were more prevalent (53,3% vs 46,6%). 35% had diabetes. 51,6% underwent conventional hemodialysis (HD), 48,3% post-dilution haemodiafiltration, with mean convective volume of 23,8±2,8L. Mean eKt/V was 1,67±0,4, mean nPCR was 1±0,27g/kg/day. Only 8,3% of patients had urine volume>500cc/24hours. Mean β2M level was 35,6±1,9mg/L (X±SE) and mean total IS level was 18,9±1,6mg/L.
The overall mortality at 5 years was 57%. Albuminemia lower than 38g/L was associated with mortality at 2, 3, and 5-years in univariate analysis (Cox´s F test p=0.03, figure 1). We found no difference in survival rate between patients with high or low serum β2M levels at 3- or 5-years analysis (Cox´s F test p=0.27). At 2 years analysis, patients in the lower β2M group had better survival (Cox´s F test p=0.04, Figure 1). There was no statistically significant association between albumin, β2M, IS level and all-cause mortality on Cox regression multivariate analysis. We observe no statistically significant association between IS levels and all-cause mortality neither on univariate, nor on multivariate analysis.
Conclusion
β2M < 27,5 mg/l was associated with better survival at 2 years univariate analysis. IS had no statistically significant association with all-cause mortality in our cohort.

Abstract
Colour pattern is the main trait that drives mate recognition between Heliconius species that are phylogenetically close. However, when this cue is compromised such as in cases of mimetic, sympatric and closely related species, alternative mating signals must evolve to ensure reproductive isolation and species integrity. The closely related species Heliconius melpomene malleti and H. timareta florencia occur in the same geographical region, and despite being co-mimics, they display strong reproductive isolation. In order to test which cues differ between species, and potentially contribute to reproductive isolation, we quantified differences in the wing phenotype and the male chemical profile. As expected, the wing colour pattern was indistinguishable between the two species, while the chemical profile of the androconial and genital males' extracts showed marked differences. We then conducted behavioural experiments to study the importance of these signals in mate recognition by females. In agreement with our previous results, we found that chemical blends and not wing colour pattern drive the preference of females for conspecific males. Also, experiments with hybrid males and females suggested an important genetic component for both chemical production and preference. Altogether, these results suggest that chemicals are the major reproductive barrier opposing gene flow between these two sister and co-mimic species.

Abstract
The colonization of an exotic species by native herbivores is more likely to occur if that herbivore is a generalist. There is little information on the life-history mechanisms used by native generalist insects to colonize exotic hosts and how these mechanisms are affected by host properties. We examined the ability of the generalist seed beetle Stator limbatus Horn to colonize an exotic species. We compared its host preference, acceptability, performance, and egg size when ovipositing and developing on two native (Pithecellobium dulce (Roxb.) Benth and Senegalia riparia (Kunth)) and one exotic legume species (Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.)). We also analyzed the seed chemistry. We found that females recognize the exotic species as an unfavorable host for larval development and that they delayed oviposition and laid fewer and larger eggs on the exotic species than on the native species. Survivorship on the exotic host was 0%. Additionally, seeds of the native species contain five chemical compounds that are absent in the exotic species, and the exotic species contains three sterols, which are absent in the native legumes. Genetically based differences between beetles adapted to different hosts, plastic responses toward new hosts, and chemical differences among seeds are important in host colonization and recognition of the exotic host. In conclusion, the generalist nature of S. limbatus does not influence its ability to colonize L. leucocephala. Explanations for the colonization of exotic hosts by generalist native species and for the success of invasive species must be complemented with studies measuring local adaptation and plasticity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Osmolality reflects the concentration of all dissolved particles in a body fluid, and its measurement is routinely performed in clinical laboratories for the differential diagnosis of disorders related with the hydrolytic balance regulation, the renal function and in small-molecule poisonings. The aim of the study was to assess the stability of serum, plasma and urine osmolality through time and under different common storage conditions, including delayed centrifugation. METHODS Blood and urine samples were collected, and classified into different groups according to several preanalytical variables: serum or plasma lithium-heparin tubes; spun or unspun; stored at room temperature (RT), at 4°C or frozen at -21°C. Aliquots from each group were assayed over time, for up to 14days. Statistical differences were based on three different international performance criteria. RESULTS Whole blood stability was higher in the presence of anticoagulant. Serum osmolality was stable for 2days at RT and 8days at 4°C, while plasma was less stable when refrigerated. Urine stability was 5days at RT, 4days at 4°C and >14days when frozen. DISCUSSION Osmolality may be of great interest for the management of several conditions, such as in case of a delay in the clinical suspicion, or in case of problems in sample collection or processing. The ability to obtain reliable results for samples kept up to 14days also offers the possibility to retrospectively assess baseline values for patients which may require it.

Abstract
A method for the quantitation of 22 urinary steroids (androgens, estrogens and the main pregnenolone and progesterone metabolites) by means of gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometry using a triple quadrupole analyzer has been developed. Two different enzymatic hydrolysis protocols were investigated; one capable of releasing steroids present as both sulfates and glucuronides (total fraction), and another with β-glucuronidase activity only. After selecting adequate internal standards and choosing the optimal instrumental parameters, i.e. chromatographic separation and ion transition conditions, the method was fully validated using both hydrolysis protocols. The method was shown to be linear (r >0.99) in the range of endogenous concentrations for all studied steroids with extraction recoveries higher than 80%. The use of labeled internal standards allowed for both a correct quantification and the evaluation of the rate of deconjugation for sulfates and glucuronides in every sample. In general, the sensitivity of the method was suitable for the detection of the endogenous levels, with limits of quantification ranging from 0.1 to 20ng/mL. Accuracies ranging from 80% to 120%, and relative standard deviations below 25% in intra- and inter- assay experiments were found for most of the analytes. The applicability of the validated method was tested by quantifying twenty-two metabolites in 24-h urine samples collected from healthy individuals. The ranges for the excretion of steroids in the total and glucuronide fractions obtained with the new method were compared with those available in the literature. By comparing the figures in both fractions, an estimation of the percentage that the sulfation represents for each steroid was also calculated. The presence of side enzymatic activities and the utility of the method for clinical studies as well as for doping control analysis is discussed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cyanokit® (hydroxocobalamin OHCo) is the recommended treatment for cyanide poisoning. OHCo is a red chromophore and may cause interference with some biochemical measurements. In this study, we assessed the possible interference of Cyanokit on several cooximetric and plasma biochemistry tests and then determined the possible mathematical correction for some analytes. We studied the possibility of detecting and evaluating the degree of interference with the hemolysis index (HI) provided by our autoanalyzer because it is not possible to measure the OHCo concentration in conventional laboratories. METHODS Several pools of plasma samples spiked with increasing concentrations of OHCo were prepared. Each one was compared to the pool without interferent. Interference was considered when the bias was more than 10%. An interferograph was developed for those analytes with significant interference. The correlation between interference agent concentration and HI was calculated by Spearman correlation coefficient. We used multiple regression analysis to determine the mathematical correction for amylase, creatinine, and lactate. RESULTS We detected significant interference in the amylase, carboxyhemoglobin, creatinine, creatine kinase, bilirubin, lactate, and total protein measurement. The HI was positively correlated with OHCo concentration. Corresponding equations for estimating lactate and creatinine concentrations were obtained. CONCLUSIONS OHCo interferes with many laboratory assays in an unpredictable way making some results invalid and confounding clinical decision making. We can detect and evaluate the degree of interference with the HI. We can still estimate real creatinine and lactate levels using the regression equation obtained in this study.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is now being recognized as an additional contributing factor to the pathogenesis of obesity-related comorbidities. At the same time, there is now increasing evidence to suggest that intestinal wall permeability plays a role in the development of metabolic syndrome. In the present study, circulating zonulin and fatty acid binding protein (I-FABP) were measured in association with metabolic, hepatic, and inflammatory parameters. RESULTS Compared with controls, plasma I-FABP levels were significantly higher in patients with OSA (571 pg/mL [IQR 290-950] vs 396 pg/mL [IQR 234-559], p = 0.04). Zonulin levels were similar between groups. Significant relationships were observed between zonulin levels and waist circumference (p < 0.05), glucose (p < 0.05), and insulin (p < 0.05). In addition, in the OSA group, zonulin levels correlated negatively with the mean nocturnal oxygenation saturation (p < 0.05) and positively with total cholesterol (p < 0.05), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) (p < 0.005), aminotransferase (AST) (p < 0.01), gamma glutamyltransferase (GGT) (p < 0.005), and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) (p < 0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that associations between zonulin and ALT, AST, and hs-CRP were attenuated, but not eliminated, after adjustment for other variables. CONCLUSIONS The results of this study suggest that OSA is a risk factor for intestinal damage, regardless of metabolic profile, and that intestinal permeability might be a possible contributor to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in patients with OSA.

Abstract
Background Maps have been widely used to provide a visual representation of information of a geographic area. Health atlases are collections of maps related to conditions, infrastructure or services provided. Various countries have put resources towards producing health atlases that support health decision makers to enhance their services to the communities. Latin America, as well as Spain, have produced several atlases of importance such as the interactive mortality atlas of Andalucía, which is very similar to the one that is presented in this paper. In Mexico, the National Institute of Public Health produced the only health atlas found that is of relevance. It was published online in 2003 and is currently still active. Objective The objective of this work is to describe the methods used to develop the Health Atlas of Jalisco (HAJ), and show its characteristics and how it interactively works with the user as a Web-based service. Methods This work has an ecological design in which the analysis units are the 125 municipalities (counties) of the state of Jalisco, Mexico. We created and published online a geographic health atlas displaying a system based on input from official health database of the Health Ministry of Jalisco (HMJ), and some databases from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (NISGI). The atlas displays 256 different variables as health-direct or health-related indicators. Instant Atlas software was used to generate the online application. The atlas was developed using these procedures: (1) datasheet processing and base maps generation, (2) software arrangements, and (3) website creation. Results The HAJ is a Web-based service that allows users to interact with health and general data, regions, and categories according to their information needs and generates thematic maps (eg, the total population of the state or of a single municipality grouped by age or sex). The atlas is capable of displaying more than 32,000 different maps by combining categories, indicators, municipalities, and regions. Users can select the entire province, one or several municipalities, and the indicator they require. The atlas then generates and displays the requested map. Conclusions This atlas is a Web-based service that interactively allows users to review health indicators such as structure, supplies, processes, and the impact on public health and related sectors in Jalisco, Mexico. One of the main interests is to reduce the number of information requests that the Ministry of Health receives every week from the general public, media reporters, and other government sectors. The atlas will support transparency, information diffusion, health decision-making, and the formulation of new public policies. Furthermore, the research team intends to promote research and education in public health.

Abstract
The presence of two cysteinyl progestogens, 16-cysteinyl-progesterone (16-Cys-Prog) and 16-cysteinyl-pregnenolone (16-Cys-Preg), in human urine is described for the first time. Their occurrence was unequivocally confirmed by comparison with synthesized material by using mass spectrometric detectors. Several experiments were performed in order to clarify their origin. The adrenal origin of both 16-Cys-Prog and 16-Cys-Preg can be inferred from the increase in their concentrations after ACTH stimulatory test, together with their circadian variation similar to the one observed for cortisol. Moreover, the notable increase in excretions of 16-Cys-Prog during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle points towards an ovarian production for this progestogen. However, the analysis of samples during the course of two pregnancies revealed that, in spite of the large amounts of progesterone produced during gestation, the human placenta lacks the capacity to make 16-Cys-Prog. The adrenal and ovarian origin has been further indicated by the absence of both metabolites in samples collected from a subject with bilateral adrenalectomy and hypogonadotrophyic hypogonadism. Regarding liver action, in vitro studies with hepatocytes and progesterone indicate that, although the liver is able to metabolize progesterone to 6-dehydroprogesterone, it has not the enzymatic machinery for the generation of 16-dehydroprogesterone. Taken together, these results open the possibility for a noninvasive test for the simultaneous evaluation of progesterone biosynthesis in different organs.

Abstract
A measurement of differential cross sections for the production of a pair of isolated photons in proton-proton collisions at [Formula: see text] is presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0[Formula: see text] collected with the CMS detector. A data-driven isolation template method is used to extract the prompt diphoton yield. The measured cross section for two isolated photons, with transverse energy above 40 and 25[Formula: see text] respectively, in the pseudorapidity range [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and with an angular separation [Formula: see text], is [Formula: see text][Formula: see text]. Differential cross sections are measured as a function of the diphoton invariant mass, the diphoton transverse momentum, the azimuthal angle difference between the two photons, and the cosine of the polar angle in the Collins-Soper reference frame of the diphoton system. The results are compared to theoretical predictions at leading, next-to-leading, and next-to-next-to-leading order in quantum chromodynamics.

Abstract
The production of jets associated to bottom quarks is measured for the first time in PbPb collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 2.76 TeV per nucleon pair. Jet spectra are reported in the transverse momentum (p(T)) range of 80-250 GeV/c, and within pseudorapidity |η|<2. The nuclear modification factor (R(AA)) calculated from these spectra shows a strong suppression in the b-jet yield in PbPb collisions relative to the yield observed in pp collisions at the same energy. The suppression persists to the largest values of p(T) studied, and is centrality dependent. The R(AA) is about 0.4 in the most central events, similar to previous observations for inclusive jets. This implies that jet quenching does not have a strong dependence on parton mass and flavor in the jet p(T) range studied.

Abstract
The normalised differential top quark-antiquark production cross section is measured as a function of the jet multiplicity in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7[Formula: see text] at the LHC with the CMS detector. The measurement is performed in both the dilepton and lepton+jets decay channels using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0[Formula: see text]. Using a procedure to associate jets to decay products of the top quarks, the differential cross section of the [Formula: see text] production is determined as a function of the additional jet multiplicity in the lepton+jets channel. Furthermore, the fraction of events with no additional jets is measured in the dilepton channel, as a function of the threshold on the jet transverse momentum. The measurements are compared with predictions from perturbative quantum chromodynamics and no significant deviations are observed.

Abstract
A search for invisible decays of Higgs bosons is performed using the vector boson fusion and associated ZH production modes. In the ZH mode, the Z boson is required to decay to a pair of charged leptons or a [Formula: see text] quark pair. The searches use the 8 [Formula: see text] pp collision dataset collected by the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to 19.7 [Formula: see text]. Certain channels include data from 7 [Formula: see text] collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.9 [Formula: see text]. The searches are sensitive to non-standard-model invisible decays of the recently observed Higgs boson, as well as additional Higgs bosons with similar production modes and large invisible branching fractions. In all channels, the observed data are consistent with the expected standard model backgrounds. Limits are set on the production cross section times invisible branching fraction, as a function of the Higgs boson mass, for the vector boson fusion and ZH production modes. By combining all channels, and assuming standard model Higgs boson cross sections and acceptances, the observed (expected) upper limit on the invisible branching fraction at [Formula: see text] [Formula: see text] is found to be 0.58 (0.44) at 95 % confidence level. We interpret this limit in terms of a Higgs-portal model of dark matter interactions.

The results are based on data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 18.9 fb[Formula: see text] collected with the CMS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The measured cross sections, [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], are consistent with next-to-leading order quantum chromodynamics calculations.

Abstract
Blood samples are extensively used for the molecular diagnosis of many hematological diseases. The daily practice in a clinical laboratory of molecular diagnosis in hematology involves using a variety of techniques, based on the amplification of nucleic acids. Current methods for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) use purified genomic DNA, mostly isolated from total peripheral blood cells or white blood cells (WBC). In this paper we describe a real-time fluorescence resonance energy transfer-based method for genotyping directly from blood cells. Our strategy is based on an initial isolation of the WBCs, allowing the removal of PCR inhibitors, such as the heme group, present in the erythrocytes. Once the erythrocytes have been lysed, in the LightCycler® 2.0 Instrument, we perform a real-time PCR followed by a melting curve analysis for different genes (Factors 2, 5, 12, MTHFR, and HFE). After testing 34 samples comparing the real-time crossing point (CP) values between WBC (5×106 WBC/mL) and purified DNA (20 ng/μL), the results for F5 Leiden were as follows: CP mean value for WBC was 29.26±0.566 versus purified DNA 24.79±0.56. Thus, when PCR was performed from WBC (5×106 WBC/mL) instead of DNA (20 ng/μL), we observed a delay of about 4 cycles. These small differences in CP values were similar for all genes tested and did not significantly affect the subsequent analysis by melting curves. In both cases the fluorescence values were high enough, allowing a robust genotyping of all these genes without a previous DNA purification/extraction.

Abstract
The first observation of the associated production of a single top quark and a W boson is presented. The analysis is based on a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 12.2 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s] = 8 TeV recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC. Events with two leptons and a jet originating from a b quark are selected. A multivariate analysis based on kinematic and topological properties is used to separate the signal from the dominant tt background. An excess consistent with the signal hypothesis is observed, with a significance which corresponds to 6.1 standard deviations above a background-only hypothesis. The measured production cross section is 23.4 ± 5.4 pb, in agreement with the standard model prediction.

Abstract
A study of color coherence effects in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7[Formula: see text] is presented. The data used in the analysis were collected in 2010 with the CMS detector at the LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb[Formula: see text]. Events are selected that contain at least three jets and where the two jets with the largest transverse momentum exhibit a back-to-back topology. The measured angular correlation between the second- and third-leading jet is shown to be sensitive to color coherence effects, and is compared to the predictions of Monte Carlo models with various implementations of color coherence. None of the models describe the data satisfactorily.

Abstract
Spectra of identified charged hadrons are measured in pPb collisions with the CMS detector at the LHC at [Formula: see text]. Charged pions, kaons, and protons in the transverse-momentum range [Formula: see text]-1.7[Formula: see text] and laboratory rapidity [Formula: see text] are identified via their energy loss in the silicon tracker. The average [Formula: see text] increases with particle mass and the charged multiplicity of the event. The increase of the average [Formula: see text] with charged multiplicity is greater for heavier hadrons. Comparisons to Monte Carlo event generators reveal that Epos Lhc, which incorporates additional hydrodynamic evolution of the created system, is able to reproduce most of the data features, unlike Hijing and Ampt. The [Formula: see text] spectra and integrated yields are also compared to those measured in pp and PbPb collisions at various energies. The average transverse momentum and particle ratio measurements indicate that particle production at LHC energies is strongly correlated with event particle multiplicity.

Abstract
A measurement of total and fiducial inclusive W and Z boson production cross sections in pp collisions at sqrt[s] = 8 TeV is presented. Electron and muon final states are analyzed in a data sample collected with the CMS detector corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 18.2 ± 0.5 pb(-1). The measured total inclusive cross sections times branching fractions are σ(pp → WX)×B(W → ℓν) = 12.21 ± 0.03(stat) ± 0.24(syst) ± 0.32(lum) nb and σ(pp → ZX) × B(Z → ℓ+ℓ-) = 1.15 ± 0.01(stat) ± 0.02(syst) ± 0.03(lum) nb for the dilepton mass in the range of 60-120 GeV. The measured values agree with next-to-next-to-leading-order QCD cross section calculations. Ratios of cross sections are reported with a precision of 2%. This is the first measurement of inclusive W and Z boson production in proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s] = 8 TeV.

Abstract
Spin correlations and polarization in the top quark-antiquark system are measured using dilepton final states produced in pp collisions at the LHC at sqrt[s]=7 TeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb(-1) collected with the CMS detector. The measurements are performed using events with two oppositely charged leptons (electrons or muons), a significant imbalance in transverse momentum, and two or more jets, where at least one of the jets is identified as originating from a b quark. The spin correlations and polarization are measured through asymmetries in angular distributions of the two selected leptons, unfolded to the parton level. All measurements are found to be in agreement with predictions of the standard model.

Abstract
A search for the production of heavy partners of the top quark with charge 5/3 is performed in events with a pair of same-sign leptons. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb(-1) and was collected at sqrt[s] = 8 TeV by the CMS experiment. No significant excess is observed in the data above the expected background, and the existence of top-quark partners with masses below 800 GeV is excluded at a 95% confidence level, assuming they decay exclusively to tW. This is the first limit on these particles from the LHC, and it is significantly more restrictive than previous limits.

Abstract
A search for flavor-changing neutral currents in top-quark decays t → Zq is performed in events produced from the decay chain tt → Zq+Wb, where both vector bosons decay leptonically, producing a final state with three leptons (electrons or muons). A data set collected with the CMS detector at the LHC is used, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. No excess is seen in the observed number of events relative to the standard model prediction; thus, no evidence for flavor-changing neutral currents in top-quark decays is found. A combination with a previous search at 7 TeV excludes a t → Zq branching fraction greater than 0.05% at the 95% confidence level.

Abstract
Results are presented of a search for a "natural" supersymmetry scenario with gauge mediated symmetry breaking. It is assumed that only the supersymmetric partners of the top quark (the top squark) and the Higgs boson (Higgsino) are accessible. Events are examined in which there are two photons forming a Higgs boson candidate, and at least two b-quark jets. In 19.7 fb-1 of proton-proton collision data at s=8 TeV, recorded in the CMS experiment, no evidence of a signal is found and lower limits at the 95% confidence level are set, excluding the top squark mass below 360 to 410 GeV, depending on the Higgsino mass.

Abstract
The mass of the top quark is measured using a sample of [Formula: see text] candidate events with at least six jets in the final state. The sample is selected from data collected with the CMS detector in pp collisions at [Formula: see text] TeV in 2011 and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3.54 [Formula: see text]. The mass is reconstructed for each event employing a kinematic fit of the jets to a [Formula: see text] hypothesis. The top-quark mass is measured to be [Formula: see text] GeV. A combination with previously published measurements in other decay modes by CMS yields a mass of [Formula: see text] GeV.
