[Fibrous dysplasia of the skull: neurologic manifestations]

The neurological manifestations of eight patients with osseous fibrous dysplasia of skull were retrospectively studied. In this series, the frontal bone was involved in 75% of the patients, the sphenoid or temporal bones in 37.5%, and the parietal in 25%. It was observed that cranial deformities occurred in all but one case, headache was present in 87.5% of the patients, visual disturbances in 50%, proptosis in 25%, and auditive symptoms in 12.5%. Six out of the eight patients were operated on: three of the four who presented progressive visual loss had postoperative improvement. In their follow up, none presented, until now, evidence of recurrence or worsening of symptoms, confirming the benign nature of fibrous dysplasia.

[Multiple brain histoplasmomas: autopsy study of a case]

Report of the case of a 28-years-old black woman who developed changes in behavior followed by neurological alterations. The CT scans of the brain revealed multiple calcified granulomas. The patient died and the autopsy showed granulomatous lesions with central caseation in the brain. Microscopical examination disclosed numerous Histoplasma capsulatum. This is the first case of histoplasmoma of the brain described in Brazil.

[Fibro-muscular dysplasia of the cerebral vessels. Report of 7 cases]

Os autores apresentam sete casos de displasia fibro-muscular (DFM), sendo seis deles na artéria carótida e um na artéria vertebral, estudados pelas correspondentes angiografias. São relatadas as histórias clínicas que, em cinco pacientes, são de acidente vascular cerebral isquêmico e, em dois, de hemorragia sub-aracnóide por rotura de aneurisma. Dois pacientes foram à cirurgia: um deles sofreu ligadura de carótida primitiva e outro sofreu endarterectomia para retirada de placa de ateroma da artéria carótida contralateral a aquela com DFM. Finalmente é feita breve discussão sobre a referida patologia, quadro clínico, dignóstico e tratamento, sendo ressaltada a importância do estudo angiográfico carotídeo e vertebral quando encontrada DFM em outro território vascular.

[Glomus jugulare tumor]

É relatado um caso de tumor de glomo jugular com 4 anos de evolução. Os exames neuro-radiológicos mostraram destruição da pirâmide petrosa direita, deslocamento da cisterna pontocerebelosa direita e dilatação da cisterna ambiens do mesmo lado. O paciente foi submetido à cirurgia otológica, sendo o tumor removido parcialmente. Após radioterapia houve remissão parcial dos sintomas.

[Dandy-Walker syndrome]

São relatados os casos de 4 pacientes com síndrome de Dandy-Walker diagnosticada pela pneumencefalografia fracionada e ventriculografia. O tratamento e a patogenia desta malformação são discutidos com base em dados embriológicos.
