Abstract

Abstract
AIM To understand the meaning of hope among individuals with spinal cord injury. DESIGN A qualitative study employing the ethnographic method was used, with 18 individuals. METHOD Participant observation was chosen to understand individuals with spinal cord injury and interviews were used to elicit information about the hope experience. The data were analysed using Ernst Bloch's theory of hope. FINDINGS Participants constructed their own personality and sense of self, including their hopes for their future, based on their life before their injury. Life after experiencing spinal cord injury highlighted the limitations and potentialities of their hopes. Using a sense of hope to establish goals for the future helped participants overcome obstacles. CONCLUSION Hope in people with spinal cord injury helped them cope with the fundamental changes to their daily lives. Hope played an important role in articulating coping strategies and setting and achieving goals. These findings may help nurses understand the limits and potentialities of hope as an instigator of goals in the daily life of individuals with spinal cord injury.

Abstract
CONTEXT Considering that SCI is the main cause of neurogenic bladder, in Brazil, studies and statistical data on the number of people with neurogenic bladder are practically non-existent. To ascertain the prevalence of neurogenic bladder among users of SARAH Network hospitals with traumatic and non-traumatic spinal cord injury. METHODS Data collection form from electronic medical records to characterize the sample. The variables were related to sociodemographic data such as age, care unit, and date of admission; and to clinical data, such as main diagnosis, neurogenic bladder diagnosis. In the cases of traumatic spinal cord injury, the ASIA Impairment Scale (AIS) was considered. The statistical tests were Mann-Whitney, for two independent samples, and Pearson's Chi-squared, for the categorical variables. FINDINGS The sample included 954 participants. The prevalence of neurogenic bladder was 94.65%, of which 67% had a traumatic spinal cord injury diagnosis and 69.32% were male. Mean age of the participants was 46.12 years old (SD = 15.78 years). CONCLUSION/CLINICAL RELEVANCE The prevalence of neurogenic bladder found in the sample was 94.65%. The analysis showed that participants with TSCI are more afflicted by lower urinary tract dysfunction than those with NTSCI. TSCI was more prevalent among males and NTSCI was more prevalent among females. This was a pioneering study on the prevalence of neurogenic bladder in SCI in Brazil. However, further studies will be necessary to corroborate the data found here. The development of a database with national data is indispensable to obtain more reliable results that could provide a basis for public healthcare policies for the prevention and rehabilitation of people with SCI in Brazil.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify and analyze the biosocioeconomic profile associated with the occupation and education of persons with spinal cord injury (SCI) from Brazil. DESIGN Analytical, quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional. PARTICIPANTS Sample composed of 618 Brazilian adults with SCI and access to the internet. SETTING Community-based, Brazil. METHODS An online form was developed and publicized on Brazilian social media to voluntarily register for participation in research. Pearson's Chi-squared test was used to analyze the association between categorical variables and the Kruskal Wallis test was used for comparisons and adjusted Odds Ratio with a 95% Confidence Interval. RESULTS Among the 618 participants, 68.9% were men, with mean age of 38.04 years (SD = 9.85); 58.7% were people with paraplegia and most injuries were traumatic (78.5%), most caused by road traffic accidents (40.8%) and weapons (17.5%). The majority were graduates or post-graduates (49.5%) and received an income of up to US$ 749.58 (55.1%); 70.9% of the participants were beneficiaries of social welfare (63.6%) or unemployed (7.3%). There was a reduction in the employment rate from 91.3% to 15.2% after SCI. An association was found between education and current occupation (P ≥ 0.001). Participants with higher education had higher odds (7.48) to being employed relative to those with elementary education. CONCLUSION A serious employment situation after SCI was found, with high unemployment and dependence on social welfare. This shows the need for investment in public policies for the rehabilitation, focused on participation, return to the labor market, and ending dependence on social welfare.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Considering the limitations that disabled persons experience, our understanding of caring for these people has evolved over time worldwide. Because nursing care is dependent on the choices made by patients, nurses can play an emancipatory role by empowering patients with disabilities to become the primary agent in their rehabilitation. Objective was to conduct a range analysis protocol proposing the mapping of conceptual elements for a nursing care model based on the autonomy of disabled persons. METHODS AND ANALYSIS A protocol was developed in corporating insights from recent innovations and applying the scope review method of Arksey and O'Malley as a reference using their scoping review methodology as a guide. For the construction of research guiding question, the patient, intervention, comparison and outcomes strategy was adapted. Considerable research in online databases (14) from 2000 to 2018 will be integrated by bibliographical research. Proceed a consult in the Annals of the Brazilian Congress of Nursing, Brazilian Nursing Association and Portuguese Rehabilitation Nursing Association, as well as professional Portuguese and Brazilian nursing legislation. The entire reference list of the covered studies searched manually to detect considerable additional studies. In addition to these searches, stakeholders, including nurse experts in the rehabilitation field and disabled persons, will be requested and included. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION This study does not require ethical approval because it is a review and collection of data on publicly available materials. The results of this research will be published in a relevant journal on the subject of rehabilitation and presented at international scientific events in the area of rehabilitation nursing. Thus, the elaboration of this protocol further maps the gaps and strengthens the concepts capable of presenting strong evidence which assists and supports safer, smarter and more objective care for those living with permanent daily care obligations.

Abstract
This study aims to understand the routine of the street outreach office team regarding the attention paid to the homeless. It is a holistic qualitative multiple case study, based on Michel Maffesoli's Comprehensive and Quotidian Sociology. It was performed using two key informants and 20 professionals of the street outreach office of two capitals in the South of Brazil. For data analysis, we used the Thematic Content Analysis. The itinerancy, the unexpected and the immediacy of homeless people are part of the team's everyday life. The potentialities of the teams are their intra- and intersectoral networks; inter- and transdisciplinarity; and available material/diagnostic resources, whereas the limitations are their inequalities, vulnerabilities and social exclusion, in addition to the specificities of the homeless and the multiple problems that these people live with. Understanding the routine of the street outreach office reveals co-responsibility in unique actions aligned with the needs of the homeless, precisely signalling that health care needs to be integrated into a network so that these individuals can meet the complex challenges of living in unsafe street environments.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Objective: to understand the strengths and limits in the daily life of the adherence to rehabilitation of people with spinal cord injury and their families. Method: an interpretive study of a qualitative nature, based on Comprehensive and Everyday Life Sociology, involving 21 participants, 12 individuals with spinal cord injury and 9 family members, in a Specialized Rehabilitation Center in southern Brazil. The sources of evidence were individual and collective interviews, adopting the strategy of workshops for data validation. The Atlas.ti software was used for data collation and organization. Data analysis involved the following stages: preliminary analysis, ordering, key links, coding, and categorization. Results: the following categories and subcategories were found: Strengths in the adherence to rehabilitation - welcoming and walking side by side; rehabilitation: a return to life; coexistence that brings the family together, as well as practicing faith. Limits on the adherence to rehabilitation - (d)efficiency of the health professionals in health care. Conclusion: rehabilitation was evidenced as a possibility of returning to life, which enables coexistence among equals and stimulates self-care and adaptation. The family rescues the desire to live, and faith is a mechanism of hope and optimism. It is noteworthy that the welcoming deficit in Primary Health Care and the scarcity of rehabilitation care services in the hospital determine the onset of avoidable complications, in addition to the lack of guidance and/or referrals, characterizing a gap in the Referral and Counter-Referral System.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION In recent years, increasing methodological references have been used in scientific research; these are points of support in the search for evidence, formulation and elaboration of instruments, scales, guideline and protocols. However, significant variability currently exists in scoping review conduct and reporting, thus limiting the potential of the methodology to advance research and practice about skin self-care of people with spinal cord injury (SCI). Our objective was to perform a scoping review protocol within the health rehabilitation context of people with SCI, focusing on skin self-care. METHODS AND ANALYSIS The protocol was developed by using the scoping review methodological framework proposed by Arksey and O'Malley and further refined by the Joanna Briggs Institute, incorporating insights from more recent innovations in scoping review methodology. Sensitive searches of 13 electronic databases from 2007 to 2017 will be supplemented by grey literature searches. Two reviewers using a tool developed for this scoping review will screen eligible studies. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The scoping review will undertake a secondary analysis of previously collected data and does not require ethical approval; however, the ethical precepts of copyright will be respected. The results will facilitate a better understanding of the practical health rehabilitation context of people with SCI, the impacts of these rehabilitations and how to build an evidence base for this work in the future.

Abstract
The start of rehabilitation directly affects the effectiveness of treatment. This is a quantitative, exploratory, analytical, and cross-sectional study, with 618 Brazilian adults with spinal cord injury (SCI). Participants were predominantly male (68.90%), with a mean age of 38.04 years (SD = 9.85), with higher education (49.50%), receiving social security benefits (63.60%), and with a monthly income of up to 3 minimum wages (55.10%). The main cause of SCI was traffic accident (40.80%) and 58.70% of the participants had paraplegia. Moreover, 19.40% had not undergone any rehabilitation and the mean time to start rehabilitation after SCI was 17.68 months (SD = 38.80). Participants with the highest level of education were 4.30 times more likely to undergo rehabilitation. The results suggest that those who were more educated and with higher income also had greater access to rehabilitation programs and sought these programs earlier. In contrast, those with less resources had fewer opportunities for rehabilitation. The optimization of referral systems in the health care network, outreach programs, and a greater supply of rehabilitation centers can increase access to rehabilitation among people with SCI.

Abstract

Abstract
Knowing the attitudes and behaviors of nursing students in relation to vaccination is important because they will soon be determinant for the health literacy of the population. Vaccination remains the most effective response in the fight against communicable diseases, including COVID-19 and influenza. The objective of this study is to analyze the attitudes and behaviors of Portuguese nursing students with regard to vaccination. A cross-sectional study was carried out, with data collection from nursing students at a university in Lisbon, Portugal. A sample of 216 nursing students was obtained, representing 67.1% of the students enrolled in this university. What stands out from the results of the questionnaire "Attitudes and Behaviors in Relation to Vaccination among Students of Health Sciences" is that for the majority of students the answers were positive; in addition, 84.7% had a completed vaccination schedule for COVID-19. Being a nursing student, being in the final years of the course and being a woman are the factors that most influence the positive attitude of the students. The results obtained are motivating, because these students will be the future health professionals most likely to integrate health promotion programs through vaccination.
