Abstract
This Letter presents the measurement of near-side associated per-trigger yields, denoted ridge yields, from the analysis of angular correlations of charged hadrons in proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV. Long-range ridge yields are extracted for pairs of charged particles with a pseudorapidity difference of 1.4<|Δη|<1.8 and a transverse momentum of 1

Abstract
The first measurement of the cross section for incoherent photonuclear production of J/ψ vector mesons as a function of the Mandelstam |t| variable is presented. The measurement was carried out with the ALICE detector at midrapidity, |y|<0.8, using ultraperipheral collisions of Pb nuclei at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. This rapidity interval corresponds to a Bjorken-x range (0.3-1.4)×10^{-3}. Cross sections are given in five |t| intervals in the range 0.04<|t|<1 GeV^{2} and compared to the predictions by different models. Models that ignore quantum fluctuations of the gluon density in the colliding hadron predict a |t| dependence of the cross section much steeper than in data. The inclusion of such fluctuations in the same models provides a better description of the data.

Abstract
Understanding the role of parton mass and Casimir color factors in the quantum chromodynamics parton shower represents an important step in characterizing the emission properties of heavy quarks. Recent experimental advances in jet substructure techniques have provided the opportunity to isolate and characterize gluon emissions from heavy quarks. In this Letter, the first direct experimental constraint on the charm-quark splitting function is presented, obtained via the measurement of the groomed shared momentum fraction of the first splitting in charm jets, tagged by a reconstructed D^{0} meson. The measurement is made in proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV, in the low jet transverse-momentum interval of 15≤p_{T}^{jet ch}<30 GeV/c where the emission properties are sensitive to parton mass effects. In addition, the opening angle of the first perturbative emission of the charm quark, as well as the number of perturbative emissions it undergoes, is reported. Comparisons to measurements of an inclusive-jet sample show a steeper splitting function for charm quarks compared with gluons and light quarks. Charm quarks also undergo fewer perturbative emissions in the parton shower, with a reduced probability of large-angle emissions.

SARS-CoV-2 Infection and Development of Islet Autoimmunity in Early Childhood. JAMA 2023; 330:1151-1160. Abstract
Importance The incidence of diabetes in childhood has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. Elucidating whether SARS-CoV-2 infection is associated with islet autoimmunity, which precedes type 1 diabetes onset, is relevant to disease etiology and future childhood diabetes trends. Objective To determine whether there is a temporal relationship between SARS-CoV-2 infection and the development of islet autoimmunity in early childhood. Design, Setting, and Participants Between February 2018 and March 2021, the Primary Oral Insulin Trial, a European multicenter study, enrolled 1050 infants (517 girls) aged 4 to 7 months with a more than 10% genetically defined risk of type 1 diabetes. Children were followed up through September 2022. Exposure SARS-CoV-2 infection identified by SARS-CoV-2 antibody development in follow-up visits conducted at 2- to 6-month intervals until age 2 years from April 2018 through June 2022. Main Outcomes and Measures The development of multiple (≥2) islet autoantibodies in follow-up in consecutive samples or single islet antibodies and type 1 diabetes. Antibody incidence rates and risk of developing islet autoantibodies were analyzed. Results Consent was obtained for 885 (441 girls) children who were included in follow-up antibody measurements from age 6 months. SARS-CoV-2 antibodies developed in 170 children at a median age of 18 months (range, 6-25 months). Islet autoantibodies developed in 60 children. Six of these children tested positive for islet autoantibodies at the same time as they tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies and 6 at the visit after having tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. The sex-, age-, and country-adjusted hazard ratio for developing islet autoantibodies when the children tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies was 3.5 (95% CI, 1.6-7.7; P = .002). The incidence rate of islet autoantibodies was 3.5 (95% CI, 2.2-5.1) per 100 person-years in children without SARS-CoV-2 antibodies and 7.8 (95% CI, 5.3-19.0) per 100 person-years in children with SARS-CoV-2 antibodies (P = .02). Islet autoantibody risk in children with SARS-CoV-2 antibodies was associated with younger age (<18 months) of SARS-CoV-2 antibody development (HR, 5.3; 95% CI, 1.5-18.3; P = .009). Conclusion and relevance In young children with high genetic risk of type 1 diabetes, SARS-CoV-2 infection was temporally associated with the development of islet autoantibodies.

Abstract
The most precise measurements to date of the _{Λ}^{3}H lifetime τ and Λ separation energy B_{Λ} are obtained using the data sample of Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV collected by ALICE at the LHC. The _{Λ}^{3}H is reconstructed via its charged two-body mesonic decay channel (_{Λ}^{3}H→^{3}He+π^{-} and the charge-conjugate process). The measured values τ=[253±11(stat)±6(syst)] ps and B_{Λ}=[102±63(stat)±67(syst)] keV are compatible with predictions from effective field theories and confirm that the _{Λ}^{3}H structure is consistent with a weakly bound system.

Abstract
The first measurement of event-by-event antideuteron number fluctuations in high energy heavy-ion collisions is presented. The measurements are carried out at midrapidity (|η|<0.8) as a function of collision centrality in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV using the ALICE detector. A significant negative correlation between the produced antiprotons and antideuterons is observed in all collision centralities. The results are compared with a state-of-the-art coalescence calculation. While it describes the ratio of higher order cumulants of the antideuteron multiplicity distribution, it fails to describe quantitatively the magnitude of the correlation between antiproton and antideuteron production. On the other hand, thermal-statistical model calculations describe all the measured observables within uncertainties only for correlation volumes that are different with respect to those describing proton yields and a similar measurement of net-proton number fluctuations.

Enhanced Deuteron Coalescence Probability in Jets. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:042301. Abstract
The transverse-momentum (p_{T}) spectra and coalescence parameters B_{2} of (anti)deuterons are measured in p-p collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV for the first time in and out of jets. In this measurement, the direction of the leading particle with the highest p_{T} in the event (p_{T}^{lead}>5 GeV/c) is used as an approximation for the jet axis. The event is consequently divided into three azimuthal regions, and the jet signal is obtained as the difference between the toward region, that contains jet fragmentation products in addition to the underlying event (UE), and the transverse region, which is dominated by the UE. The coalescence parameter in the jet is found to be approximately a factor of 10 larger than that in the underlying event. This experimental observation is consistent with the coalescence picture and can be attributed to the smaller average phase-space distance between nucleons in the jet cone as compared with the underlying event. The results presented in this Letter are compared to predictions from a simple nucleon coalescence model, where the phase-space distributions of nucleons are generated using pythia8 with the Monash 2013 tuning, and to predictions from a deuteron production model based on ordinary nuclear reactions with parametrized energy-dependent cross sections tuned on data. The latter model is implemented in pythia8.3. Both models reproduce the observed large difference between in-jet and out-of-jet coalescence parameters, although the almost flat trend of the B_{2}^{Jet} is not reproduced by the models, which instead give a decreasing trend.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In many countries, such as France, England, USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, alloplastic material in prolapse surgery has been paused due to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warning, and restricted in other countries like the Netherlands and Sweden. For Europe and thus Germany, the SCENIHR report allows alloplastic material to be used for prolapse repair after recurrence and in other special situations. QUESTION Which established and innovative prolapse surgeries without alloplastic material are currently available? METHODS A literature search was carried out on established, guideline-compliant pelvic floor surgeries without alloplastic material as well as innovative new approaches. RESULTS An established procedure for a defect in the anterior compartment is anterior colporrhaphy, which is associated with a high recurrence rate. The double-layered anterior colporrhaphy is a new approach and so far is associated with an improved 19-month outcome. Apical pelvic organ prolapse can be corrected by sacrouterine ligament fixation and vaginal sacrospinous fixation. New innovative techniques include laparoscopic unilateral pectineal suspension and the use of the semitendinosus tendon autograft to perform pectopexy or sacropexy. However, long-term data are still pending. In case of a posterior vaginal wall prolapse, posterior colporrhaphy is the therapy of choice and is associated with good success rates. CONCLUSION Well-known surgical procedures with native tissue are experiencing a renaissance and new, innovative surgical approaches with good postoperative results are being developed. However, long-term studies are still necessary.

Abstract
Heterozygous TREX1 mutations are associated with monogenic familial chilblain lupus and represent a risk factor for developing systemic lupus erythematosus. These interferonopathies originate from chronic type I interferon stimulation due to sensing of inadequately accumulating nucleic acids. We here analysed the composition of dendritic cell (DC) subsets, central stimulators of immune responses, in patients with TREX1 deficiency. We performed single-cell RNA-sequencing of peripheral blood DCs and monocytes from two patients with familial chilblain lupus and heterozygous mutations in TREX1 and from controls. Type I interferon pathway genes were strongly upregulated in patients. Cell frequencies of the myeloid and plasmacytoid DC and of monocyte populations in patients and controls were similar, but we describe a novel DC subpopulation highly enriched in patients: a myeloid DC CD1C+ subpopulation characterized by the expression of LMNA, EMP1 and a type I interferon- stimulated gene profile. The presence of this defined subpopulation was confirmed in a second cohort of patients and controls by flow cytometry, also revealing that an increased percentage of patient's cells in the subcluster express costimulatory molecules. We identified a novel type I interferon responsive myeloid DC subpopulation, that might be important for the perpetuation of TREX1-induced chilblain lupus and other type I interferonopathies.

Hypertriton Production in p-Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2022; 128:252003. Abstract
The study of nuclei and antinuclei production has proven to be a powerful tool to investigate the formation mechanism of loosely bound states in high-energy hadronic collisions. The first measurement of the production of _{Λ}^{3}H in p-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV is presented in this Letter. Its production yield measured in the rapidity interval -1<y<0 for the 40% highest-multiplicity p-Pb collisions is dN/dy=[6.3±1.8(stat)±1.2(syst)]×10^{-7}. The measurement is compared with the expectations of statistical hadronization and coalescence models, which describe the nucleosynthesis in hadronic collisions. These two models predict very different yields of the hypertriton in charged particle multiplicity environments relevant to small collision systems such as p-Pb, and therefore the measurement of dN/dy is crucial to distinguish between them. The precision of this measurement leads to the exclusion with a significance larger than 6.9σ of some configurations of the statistical hadronization model, thus constraining the theory behind the production of loosely bound states at hadron colliders.

Polarization of Λ and Λ[over ¯] Hyperons along the Beam Direction in Pb-Pb Collisions at sqrt[s]_{NN}=5.02 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2022; 128:172005. Abstract
The polarization of the Λ and Λ[over ¯] hyperons along the beam (z) direction, P_{z}, has been measured in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV recorded with ALICE at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The main contribution to P_{z} comes from elliptic flow-induced vorticity and can be characterized by the second Fourier sine coefficient P_{z,s2}=⟨P_{z}sin(2φ-2Ψ_{2})⟩, where φ is the hyperon azimuthal emission angle and Ψ_{2} is the elliptic flow plane angle. We report the measurement of P_{z,s2} for different collision centralities and in the 30%-50% centrality interval as a function of the hyperon transverse momentum and rapidity. The P_{z,s2} is positive similarly as measured by the STAR Collaboration in Au-Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV, with somewhat smaller amplitude in the semicentral collisions. This is the first experimental evidence of a nonzero hyperon P_{z} in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC. The comparison of the measured P_{z,s2} with the hydrodynamic model calculations shows sensitivity to the competing contributions from thermal and the recently found shear-induced vorticity, as well as to whether the polarization is acquired at the quark-gluon plasma or the hadronic phase.

Measurement of the Groomed Jet Radius and Momentum Splitting Fraction in pp and Pb-Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2022; 128:102001. Abstract
This article presents groomed jet substructure measurements in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector. The soft drop grooming algorithm provides access to the hard parton splittings inside a jet by removing soft wide-angle radiation. We report the groomed jet momentum splitting fraction, z_{g}, and the (scaled) groomed jet radius, θ_{g}. Charged-particle jets are reconstructed at midrapidity using the anti-k_{T} algorithm with resolution parameters R=0.2 and R=0.4. In heavy-ion collisions, the large underlying event poses a challenge for the reconstruction of groomed jet observables, since fluctuations in the background can cause groomed parton splittings to be misidentified. By using strong grooming conditions to reduce this background, we report these observables fully corrected for detector effects and background fluctuations for the first time. A narrowing of the θ_{g} distribution in Pb-Pb collisions compared to pp collisions is seen, which provides direct evidence of the modification of the angular structure of jets in the quark-gluon plasma. No significant modification of the z_{g} distribution in Pb-Pb collisions compared to pp collisions is observed. These results are compared with a variety of theoretical models of jet quenching, and provide constraints on jet energy-loss mechanisms and coherence effects in the quark-gluon plasma.

Abstract
Resting conventional T cells (Tconv) can be distinguished from T regulatory cells (Treg) by the canonical markers FOXP3, CD25 and CD127. However, the expression of these proteins alters after T‐cell activation leading to overlap between Tconv and Treg. The objective of this study was to distinguish resting and antigen‐responsive T effector (Tconv) and Treg using single‐cell technologies. CD4+ Treg and Tconv cells were stimulated with antigen and responsive and non‐responsive populations processed for targeted and non‐targeted single‐cell RNAseq. Machine learning was used to generate a limited set of genes that could distinguish responding and non‐responding Treg and Tconv cells and which was used for single‐cell multiplex qPCR and to design a flow cytometry panel. Targeted scRNAseq clearly distinguished the four‐cell populations. A minimal set of 27 genes was identified by machine learning algorithms to provide discrimination of the four populations at >95% accuracy. In all, 15 of the genes were validated to be differentially expressed by single‐cell multiplex qPCR. Discrimination of responding Treg from responding Tconv could be achieved by a flow cytometry strategy that included staining for CD25, CD127, FOXP3, IKZF2, ITGA4, and the novel marker TRIM which was strongly expressed in Tconv and weakly expressed in both responding and non‐responding Treg. A minimal set of genes was identified that discriminates responding and non‐responding CD4+ Treg and Tconv cells and, which have identified TRIM as a marker to distinguish Treg by flow cytometry.

Abstract
The p_{T}-differential production cross sections of prompt D^{0}, Λ_{c}^{+}, and Σ_{c}^{0,++}(2455) charmed hadrons are measured at midrapidity (|y|<0.5) in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV. This is the first measurement of Σ_{c}^{0,++} production in hadronic collisions. Assuming the same production yield for the three Σ_{c}^{0,+,++} isospin states, the baryon-to-meson cross section ratios Σ_{c}^{0,+,++}/D^{0} and Λ_{c}^{+}/D^{0} are calculated in the transverse momentum (p_{T}) intervals 2<p_{T}<12 and 1<p_{T}<24 GeV/c. Values significantly larger than in e^{+}e^{-} collisions are observed, indicating for the first time that baryon enhancement in hadronic collisions also extends to the Σ_{c}. The feed-down contribution to Λ_{c}^{+} production from Σ_{c}^{0,+,++} is also reported and is found to be larger than in e^{+}e^{-} collisions. The data are compared with predictions from event generators and other phenomenological models, providing a sensitive test of the different charm-hadronization mechanisms implemented in the models.

Measurement of the Cross Sections of Ξ_{c}^{0} and Ξ_{c}^{+} Baryons and of the Branching-Fraction Ratio BR(Ξ_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}e^{+}ν_{e})/BR(Ξ_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}π^{+}) in pp Collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV. Abstract
The p_{T}-differential cross sections of prompt charm-strange baryons Ξ_{c}^{0} and Ξ_{c}^{+} were measured at midrapidity (|y|<0.5) in proton-proton (pp) collisions at a center-of-mass energy sqrt[s]=13 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The Ξ_{c}^{0} baryon was reconstructed via both the semileptonic decay (Ξ^{-}e^{+}ν_{e}) and the hadronic decay (Ξ^{-}π^{+}) channels. The Ξ_{c}^{+} baryon was reconstructed via the hadronic decay (Ξ^{-}π^{+}π^{+}) channel. The branching-fraction ratio BR(Ξ_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}e^{+}ν_{e})/BR(Ξ_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}π^{+})=1.38±0.14(stat)±0.22(syst) was measured with a total uncertainty reduced by a factor of about 3 with respect to the current world average reported by the Particle Data Group. The transverse momentum (p_{T}) dependence of the Ξ_{c}^{0}- and Ξ_{c}^{+}-baryon production relative to the D^{0} meson and to the Σ_{c}^{0,+,++}- and Λ_{c}^{+}-baryon production are reported. The baryon-to-meson ratio increases toward low p_{T} up to a value of approximately 0.3. The measurements are compared with various models that take different hadronization mechanisms into consideration. The results provide stringent constraints to these theoretical calculations and additional evidence that different processes are involved in charm hadronization in electron-positron (e^{+}e^{-}) and hadronic collisions.

Λ_{c}^{+} Production and Baryon-to-Meson Ratios in pp and p-Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV at the LHC. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2021; 127:202301. Abstract
The prompt production of the charm baryon Λ_{c}^{+} and the Λ_{c}^{+}/D^{0} production ratios were measured at midrapidity with the ALICE detector in pp and p-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. These new measurements show a clear decrease of the Λ_{c}^{+}/D^{0} ratio with increasing transverse momentum (p_{T}) in both collision systems in the range 2<p_{T}<12 GeV/c, exhibiting similarities with the light-flavor baryon-to-meson ratios p/π and Λ/K_{S}^{0}. At low p_{T}, predictions that include additional color-reconnection mechanisms beyond the leading-color approximation, assume the existence of additional higher-mass charm-baryon states, or include hadronization via coalescence can describe the data, while predictions driven by charm-quark fragmentation processes measured in e^{+}e^{-} and e^{-}p collisions significantly underestimate the data. The results presented in this Letter provide significant evidence that the established assumption of universality (colliding-system independence) of parton-to-hadron fragmentation is not sufficient to describe charm-baryon production in hadronic collisions at LHC energies.

Experimental Evidence for an Attractive p-ϕ Interaction. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2021; 127:172301. Abstract
This Letter presents the first experimental evidence of the attractive strong interaction between a proton and a ϕ meson. The result is obtained from two-particle correlations of combined p-ϕ⊕ p[over ¯]-ϕ pairs measured in high-multiplicity pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV by the ALICE Collaboration. The spin-averaged scattering length and effective range of the p-ϕ interaction are extracted from the fully corrected correlation function employing the Lednický-Lyuboshits approach. In particular, the imaginary part of the scattering length vanishes within uncertainties, indicating that inelastic processes do not play a prominent role for the p-ϕ interaction. These data demonstrate that the interaction is dominated by elastic p-ϕ scattering. Furthermore, an analysis employing phenomenological Gaussian- and Yukawa-type potentials is conducted. Under the assumption of the latter, the N-ϕ coupling constant is found to be g_{N-ϕ}=0.14±0.03(stat)±0.02(syst). This work provides valuable experimental input to accomplish a self-consistent description of the N-ϕ interaction, which is particularly relevant for the more fundamental studies on partial restoration of chiral symmetry in nuclear medium.

Apixaban for treatment of embolic stroke of undetermined source (ATTICUS) randomized trial – update of patient characteristics and study timeline after interim analysis. Eur Heart J 2021. [DOI: 10.1093/eurheartj/ehab724.2070] [Citation(s) in RCA: 3] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Submit a Manuscript] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/13/2022] Open
Abstract
Abstract
Background
Secondary prevention after embolic stroke of undetermined source (ESUS) has not yet been established. ESUS is associated with high risk of recurrent ischemic stroke and clinically silent ischemic lesions. Secondary prevention with aspirin is the current standard therapy in ESUS patients, despite high prevalence of occult atrial fibrillation (AF).
Purpose
To determine whether the direct oral factor Xa inhibitor apixaban, started within 28 days after index stroke, is superior to aspirin in preventing new ischemic lesions in subjects with remote cardiac monitoring. Primary endpoint was detection of new ischemic lesions in flair and diffusion-weighted (DWI) MR imaging at 12 months follow-up.
Methods
The study enrolled ESUS patients with risk profile for cardiac thromboembolism (i.e., left atrium (LA) size >45 mm, spontaneous echo contrast in LA appendage, LA appendage flow velocity ≤0.2 cm/s, atrial high rate episodes, CHA2DS2-Vasc score ≥4, patent foramen ovale). Patients were randomized 1:1 into the aspirin and apixaban arms. Study drug was initiated within 3–28 days after minor/moderate stroke and 14–28 days after major stroke. MRI (Flair/DWI) was conducted within 7 days of AF detection by remote cardiac monitors and at 12 months. ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT02427126. Funding: The trial is supported by BMS-Pfizer Alliance.
Results
Enrollment was stopped after interims analysis (including 200 patients) due to futility. Overall, 373 patients were screened with 353 being enrolled (178 and 175 in apixaban and ASA arms, respectively). So far, 130 (73.0%) and 120 (68.6%) subjects from apixaban and ASA arms, respectively, completed the study. 2% death, 1.7% withdrawal, and 1.7% were lost to follow-up. 3.9% did not completed the study for other reasons. Mean age of the ATTICUS population was 68.5 years with 51% males. 80% of the subjects suffered from hypertension. Mean systolic blood pressure at enrollment was 132 mmHg, BMI was 27.7, and CHA2DS-VASc-Score was 4.9. So far, adverse events (AE) occurred in 63% of the subjects, 30% was documented as severe. 6.8% cases of recurrent ischemic stroke and no case of hemorrhagic stroke were reported. Only 1 case of severe bleeding was reported in the aspirin arm. Newly detected AF was reported in 80 patients (23%), 42 occurring in the aspirin arm. As required by protocol, latter were immediately switched from aspirin to apixaban. Due to ongoing data clearing, numbers and % will change until presentation.
Conclusions
In contrast to the recently published NAVIGATE and RESPECT ESUS trials, patients enrolled in ATTICUS need to exhibit additional AF predicting factors. Furthermore, mandatory cardiac remote monitoring will help to elucidate the impact of AF and the effects of early oral anticoagulation with apixaban compared to antiplatelet therapy with aspirin on the incidence of new ischemic lesions after ESUS. Preliminary data will be presented and discussed in the context of current literature.

Multiharmonic Correlations of Different Flow Amplitudes in Pb-Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=2.76 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2021; 127:092302. Abstract
The event-by-event correlations between three flow amplitudes are measured for the first time in Pb-Pb collisions, using higher-order symmetric cumulants. We find that different three-harmonic correlations develop during the collective evolution of the medium when compared to correlations that exist in the initial state. These new results cannot be interpreted in terms of previous lower-order flow measurements since contributions from two-harmonic correlations are explicitly removed in the new observables. A comparison to Monte Carlo simulations provides new and independent constraints for the initial conditions and system properties of nuclear matter created in heavy-ion collisions.

Soft-Dielectron Excess in Proton-Proton Collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2021; 127:042302. Abstract
A measurement of dielectron production in proton-proton (pp) collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV, recorded with the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC, is presented in this Letter. The data set was recorded with a reduced magnetic solenoid field. This enables the investigation of a kinematic domain at low dielectron (ee) invariant mass m_{ee} and pair transverse momentum p_{T,ee} that was previously inaccessible at the LHC. The cross section for dielectron production is studied as a function of m_{ee}, p_{T,ee}, and event multiplicity dN_{ch}/dη. The expected dielectron rate from hadron decays, called hadronic cocktail, utilizes a parametrization of the measured η/π^{0} ratio in pp and proton-nucleus collisions, assuming that this ratio shows no strong dependence on collision energy at low transverse momentum. Comparison of the measured dielectron yield to the hadronic cocktail at 0.15<m_{ee}<0.6 GeV/c^{2} and for p_{T,ee}<0.4 GeV/c indicates an enhancement of soft dielectrons, reminiscent of the "anomalous" soft-photon and soft-dilepton excess in hadron-hadron collisions reported by several experiments under different experimental conditions. The enhancement factor over the hadronic cocktail amounts to 1.61±0.13(stat)±0.17(syst,data)±0.34(syst,cocktail) in the ALICE acceptance. Acceptance-corrected excess spectra in m_{ee} and p_{T,ee} are extracted and compared with calculations of dielectron production from hadronic bremsstrahlung and thermal radiation within a hadronic many-body approach.

Elliptic Flow of Electrons from Beauty-Hadron Decays in Pb-Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2021; 126:162001. Abstract
The elliptic flow of electrons from beauty hadron decays at midrapidity (|y|<0.8) is measured in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The azimuthal distribution of the particles produced in the collisions can be parametrized with a Fourier expansion, in which the second harmonic coefficient represents the elliptic flow, v_{2}. The v_{2} coefficient of electrons from beauty hadron decays is measured for the first time in the transverse momentum (p_{T}) range 1.3-6 GeV/c in the centrality class 30%-50%. The measurement of electrons from beauty-hadron decays exploits their larger mean proper decay length cτ≈500 μm compared to that of charm hadrons and most of the other background sources. The v_{2} of electrons from beauty hadron decays at midrapidity is found to be positive with a significance of 3.75 σ. The results provide insights into the degree of thermalization of beauty quarks in the medium. A model assuming full thermalization of beauty quarks is strongly disfavored by the measurement at high p_{T}, but is in agreement with the results at low p_{T}. Transport models including substantial interactions of beauty quarks with an expanding strongly interacting medium describe the measurement within uncertainties.

Effect of consecutive jumping efforts over several days on kinetic locomotion parameters in unridden horses – a preliminary study. COMPARATIVE EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY 2021. Abstract
There are few studies describing the training of horses used for show jumping and most only in a broad sense. Six unridden horses fitted with an accelerometric device were submitted to consecutive jumping efforts to examine the short-term effect. Horses jumped 13 obstacles away (away) from and returning (return) to their handler. On the first day, the horses jumped the obstacles once (26 jumps). The next day, the horses did the same routine twice and on the fourth day three times. The duration of the away runs was significantly longer than that of the return runs on all days. The comparison of the first exercise sessions on all exercise days showed that the stride frequency was always higher during the return runs than during the away runs and higher on days 2 and 4 than on day 1. The craniocaudal power was higher on days 2 and 4 compared to day 1 and the dorsoventral power higher on day 2 than on day 4. On exercise day 4, stride regularity decreased during the return runs, while the stride frequency increased. The dorsoventral, craniocaudal and total powers were lower during the second and third exercise sessions than during the first exercise session on this day while exercise duration did not change. These results seem to indicate an improved jumping efficiency. In conclusion, the multiple consecutive unridden jumping exercise sessions were well tolerated by the horses. The cause of the locomotion changes needs to be further examined. This exercise can be used to train horses.

Measurement of the Low-Energy Antideuteron Inelastic Cross Section. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2020; 125:162001. Abstract
In this Letter, we report the first measurement of the inelastic cross section for antideuteron-nucleus interactions at low particle momenta, covering a range of 0.3≤p<4 GeV/c. The measurement is carried out using p-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon-nucleon pair of sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV, recorded with the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC and utilizing the detector material as an absorber for antideuterons and antiprotons. The extracted raw primary antiparticle-to-particle ratios are compared to the results from detailed ALICE simulations based on the geant4 toolkit for the propagation of (anti)particles through the detector material. The analysis of the raw primary (anti)proton spectra serves as a benchmark for this study, since their hadronic interaction cross sections are well constrained experimentally. The first measurement of the inelastic cross section for antideuteron-nucleus interactions averaged over the ALICE detector material with atomic mass numbers ⟨A⟩=17.4 and 31.8 is obtained. The measured inelastic cross section points to a possible excess with respect to the Glauber model parametrization used in geant4 in the lowest momentum interval of 0.3≤p<0.47 GeV/c up to a factor 2.1. This result is relevant for the understanding of antimatter propagation and the contributions to antinuclei production from cosmic ray interactions within the interstellar medium. In addition, the momentum range covered by this measurement is of particular importance to evaluate signal predictions for indirect dark-matter searches.

Abstract
Autoimmunity against pancreatic β-cell autoantigens is a characteristic of childhood type 1 diabetes (T1D). Autoimmunity usually appears in genetically susceptible children with the development of autoantibodies against (pro)insulin in early childhood. The offspring of mothers with T1D are protected from this process. The aim of this study was to determine whether the protection conferred by maternal T1D is associated with improved neonatal tolerance against (pro)insulin. Consistent with improved neonatal tolerance, the offspring of mothers with T1D had reduced cord blood CD4+ T-cell responses to proinsulin and insulin, a reduction in the inflammatory profile of their proinsulin-responsive CD4+ T cells, and improved regulation of CD4+ T cell responses to proinsulin at 9 months of age, as compared with offspring with a father or sibling with T1D. Maternal T1D was also associated with a modest reduction in CpG methylation of the INS gene in cord blood mononuclear cells from offspring with a susceptible INS genotype. Our findings support the concept that a maternal T1D environment improves neonatal immune tolerance against the autoantigen (pro)insulin.

Abstract
CD8+ T cells are important effectors of adaptive immunity against pathogens, tumors, and self antigens. Here, we asked how human cognate antigen-responsive CD8+ T cells and their receptors could be identified in unselected single-cell gene expression data. Single-cell RNA sequencing and qPCR of dye-labeled antigen-specific cells identified large gene sets that were congruently up- or downregulated in virus-responsive CD8+ T cells under different antigen presentation conditions. Combined expression of TNFRSF9, XCL1, XCL2, and CRTAM was the most distinct marker of virus-responsive cells on a single-cell level. Using transcriptomic data, we developed a machine learning-based classifier that provides sensitive and specific detection of virus-responsive CD8+ T cells from unselected populations. Gene response profiles of CD8+ T cells specific for the autoantigen islet-specific glucose-6-phosphatase catalytic subunit-related protein differed markedly from virus-specific cells. These findings provide single-cell gene expression parameters for comprehensive identification of rare antigen-responsive cells and T cell receptors.

Abstract
Abstract
BACKGROUND
The development of new therapeutic agents generally takes many years to translate to clinically-effective new treatments. Among the strategies to reduce this time frame, efforts are now being undertaken to investigate drug repurposing. With this approach, compounds available for a specific disease are evaluated for their therapeutic efficacy in other diseases. We have set up a patient-derived cell culture model to apply this strategy for glioblastoma (GBM).
MATERIAL AND METHODS
Fresh patient-derived tumour tissue was dissociated and cultured in serum-free medium supplemented with EGF and bFGF. MGMT status was determined by methylation-specific PCR.Drug screening was performed using the NIH anti-cancer collection containing 114 approved oncology drugs. Compounds include chemotherapeutic agents as well as small molecule targeted agents. Readout for drug effects is based on ATP-based viability assay. Using systems modelling approaches, integrated analysis of both mutational and expression data of each tumour is applied to identify key pathways involved in response to specific compounds.
RESULTS
Molecular analysis demonstrated that copy number variations are preserved under serum-free culture conditions and that the MGMT methylation status is retained in over 75% of cases. Screening of the NIH anti-cancer collection on 55 GBM cell cultures revealed high intertumoral variation in response to most drugs. This included subsets of GBM revealing exceptionally high sensitivity to specific agents at clinically-feasible concentrations. Further ranking of the compounds was made based on the therapeutic index (IC50 tumour versus normal human astrocytes) and predicted blood-brain-barrier crossing capability. Currently, integrated analysis of molecular profiles of the tumour in relation to the drug response data is ongoing with the aim of identifying response predictors to these clinically-approved anti-cancer agents.
CONCLUSION
Our patient-derived in vitro drug screening assay may offer a tool to identify available anti-cancer agents that are effective in a subpopulation of GBM patients and that may be implemented in future stratified clinical trials for this patient group.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify single-cell transcriptional signatures of dendritic cells (DCs) that are associated with autoimmunity, and determine whether those DC signatures are correlated with the clinical heterogeneity of autoimmune disease. METHODS Blood-derived DCs were single-cell sorted from the peripheral blood of patients with rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, or type 1 diabetes as well as healthy individuals. DCs were analyzed using single-cell gene expression assays, performed immediately after isolation or after in vitro stimulation of the cells. In addition, protein expression was measured using fluorescence-activated cell sorting. RESULTS CD1c+ conventional DCs and plasmacytoid DCs from healthy individuals exhibited diverse transcriptional signatures, while the DC transcriptional signatures in patients with autoimmune disease were altered. In particular, distinct DC clusters, characterized by up-regulation of TAP1, IRF7, and IFNAR1, were abundant in patients with systemic autoimmune disease, whereas DCs from patients with type 1 diabetes had decreased expression of the regulatory genes PTPN6, TGFB, and TYROBP. The frequency of CD1c+ conventional DCs that expressed a systemic autoimmune profile directly correlated with the extent of disease activity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (Spearman's r = 0.60, P = 0.03). CONCLUSION DC transcriptional signatures are altered in patients with autoimmune disease and are associated with the level of disease activity, suggesting that immune cell transcriptional profiling could improve our ability to detect and understand the heterogeneity of these diseases, and could guide treatment choices in patients with a complex autoimmune disease.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Recently, following import by travel and migration, epidemic community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) has caused nosocomial outbreaks in Europe, sometimes with a fatal outcome. We describe clinico-epidemiological characteristics of CA-MRSA detected by the European Network for the Surveillance of imported S. aureus (www.staphtrav.eu) from May 2011 to November 2016. METHODS Sentinel surveillance at 13 travel clinics enrolling patients with travel-associated skin and soft-tissue infection (SSTI) and analysing lesion and nose swabs at one central laboratory. RESULTS A total of 564 independent case-patients with SSTI were enrolled and had 374 (67%) S. aureus-positive lesions, of which 14% (51/374) were MRSA. The majority of CA-MRSA isolates from SSTI were Panton-Valentine leucocidin (PVL) -positive (43/51, 84%). The risk of methicillin-resistance in imported S. aureus varied by travel region (p <0.001) and was highest in Latin America (16/57, 28%, 95% CI 17.0-41.5) and lowest in Sub-Saharan Africa (4/121, 3%, 95% CI 0.9-8.3). Major epidemic clones (USA300 / USA300 Latin-American Variant, Bengal Bay, South Pacific) accounted for more than one-third (19/51, 37%) of CA-MRSA imports. CA-MRSA SSTI in returnees was complicated (31/51 multiple lesions, 61%; 22/50 recurrences, 44%), led to health-care contact (22/51 surgical drainage, 43%; 7/50 hospitalization, 14%), was transmissible (13/47 reported similar SSTI in non-travelling contacts, 28%), and associated with S. aureus nasal colonization (28 of 51 CA-MRSA cases, 55%; 24 of 28 colonized with identical spa-type in nose and lesion, 85%). CONCLUSIONS Travel-associated CA-MRSA SSTI is a transmissible condition that leads to medical consultations and colonization of the infected host.

Lagrangian 3D tracking of fluorescent microscopic objects in motion. THE REVIEW OF SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS 2017; 88:055106. Abstract
We describe the development of a tracking device, mounted on an epi-fluorescent inverted microscope, suited to obtain time resolved 3D Lagrangian tracks of fluorescent passive or active micro-objects in microfluidic devices. The system is based on real-time image processing, determining the displacement of a x, y mechanical stage to keep the chosen object at a fixed position in the observation frame. The z displacement is based on the refocusing of the fluorescent object determining the displacement of a piezo mover keeping the moving object in focus. Track coordinates of the object with respect to the microfluidic device as well as images of the object are obtained at a frequency of several tenths of Hertz. This device is particularly well adapted to obtain trajectories of motile micro-organisms in microfluidic devices with or without flow.
