Abstract
Smart meters are devices that provide detailed information about the energy consumed by specific electricity supply points, such as homes, offices, and businesses. Data from smart meters are useful for modeling energy systems, predicting electricity consumption, and understanding human behavior. We present the first smart meter dataset from Spanish electricity supply points, expanding the geographic diversity of available data on energy consumption at the household level and reducing biases in existing data, which typically come from a limited number of countries. The dataset consists of 25,559 raw hourly time series with an average length of nearly three years, spanning from November 2014 to June 2022. It also includes three subsets obtained by segmenting and cleaning the raw time series data, each focusing on the periods before, during, and after the COVID-19 lockdowns in Spain. This dataset is a valuable resource for studying electricity consumption patterns and behaviors that emerge in response to different natural experiments, such as nationwide and regional lockdowns, nighttime curfews, and changes in electricity pricing.

Abstract
The carbon sink capacity of tropical forests is substantially affected by tree mortality. However, the main drivers of tropical tree death remain largely unknown. Here we present a pan-Amazonian assessment of how and why trees die, analysing over 120,000 trees representing > 3800 species from 189 long-term RAINFOR forest plots. While tree mortality rates vary greatly Amazon-wide, on average trees are as likely to die standing as they are broken or uprooted-modes of death with different ecological consequences. Species-level growth rate is the single most important predictor of tree death in Amazonia, with faster-growing species being at higher risk. Within species, however, the slowest-growing trees are at greatest risk while the effect of tree size varies across the basin. In the driest Amazonian region species-level bioclimatic distributional patterns also predict the risk of death, suggesting that these forests are experiencing climatic conditions beyond their adaptative limits. These results provide not only a holistic pan-Amazonian picture of tree death but large-scale evidence for the overarching importance of the growth-survival trade-off in driving tropical tree mortality.

Abstract
Objective Seizures at the onset (SAO) of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) occur in up to one of every five cases. To date, there is no consensus on causal background and clinical value of these early bleeding-related seizures. This study aimed to analyze the predictors and the impact of SAO in aSAH. Methods All aSAH patients from the institutional observational cohort (01/2003–06/2016) were retrospectively reviewed. Patients’ charts and emergency protocols from first responders were screened for the occurrence of seizures in the first 24 h after aSAH. Patients’ baseline characteristics and occurrence of post-hemorrhagic complications were analyzed. Outcome endpoints included in-hospital mortality and poor outcome at 6-month follow-up (modified Rankin Scale > 3). Results Of 984 patients included in the final analysis, SAO occurred in 93 cases (9.5%) and were independently associated with younger age (< 51 years, p < 0.001), WFNS grade ≥ 4 (p < 0.001), aneurysm characteristics (location at the proximal branch of the anterior cerebral artery [p = 0.037] and irregular sac [p = 0.019]) and admission body temperature > 38.3 ℃ (p = 0.008). There was an association between SAO and early complications (early infarcts [p = 0.004] and primary decompressive craniectomy [p = 0.024]). Only in the subgroup analysis restricted to the younger individuals, SAO independently predicted poor outcome of aSAH (p = 0.002). Significance Onset seizures following aSAH are rare and most likely related to the severity of early brain injury. Particularly, younger individuals are not only at higher risk for SAO, but are also prone to poor outcome in case of aSAH accompanied with SAO. Abstract
Most of the planet's diversity is concentrated in the tropics, which includes many regions undergoing rapid climate change. Yet, while climate-induced biodiversity changes are widely documented elsewhere, few studies have addressed this issue for lowland tropical ecosystems. Here we investigate whether the floristic and functional composition of intact lowland Amazonian forests have been changing by evaluating records from 106 long-term inventory plots spanning 30 years. We analyse three traits that have been hypothesized to respond to different environmental drivers (increase in moisture stress and atmospheric CO2 concentrations): maximum tree size, biogeographic water-deficit affiliation and wood density. Tree communities have become increasingly dominated by large-statured taxa, but to date there has been no detectable change in mean wood density or water deficit affiliation at the community level, despite most forest plots having experienced an intensification of the dry season. However, among newly recruited trees, dry-affiliated genera have become more abundant, while the mortality of wet-affiliated genera has increased in those plots where the dry season has intensified most. Thus, a slow shift to a more dry-affiliated Amazonia is underway, with changes in compositional dynamics (recruits and mortality) consistent with climate-change drivers, but yet to significantly impact whole-community composition. The Amazon observational record suggests that the increase in atmospheric CO2 is driving a shift within tree communities to large-statured species and that climate changes to date will impact forest composition, but long generation times of tropical trees mean that biodiversity change is lagging behind climate change.

Abstract
We present a method for the real-time, interactive simulation of tissue tearing during laparoscopic surgery. The method is designed to work at haptic feedback rates (ie, around 1 kHz). Tissue tearing is simulated under the general framework of continuum damage mechanics. The problem is stated as a general, multidimensional parametric problem, which is solved by means of proper generalized decomposition methods. One of the main novelties is the reduction of history-dependent problems, such as damage mechanics, by resorting to an approach in which a reduced-order field of initial damage values is considered as a parameter of the formulation. We focus on the laparoscopic cholecystectomy procedure as a general example of the performance of the method.

Effects of Nitrogen Fertilization on Potato Leafhopper (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) and Maple Spider Mite (Acari: Tetranychidae) on Nursery-Grown Maples. Abstract
Although leaf nitrogen (N) has been shown to increase the suitability of hosts to herbivorous arthropods, the responses of these pests to N fertilization on susceptible and resistant host plants are not well characterized. This study determined how different rates of N fertilization affected injury caused by the potato leafhopper (Empoasca fabae Harris) and the abundance of maple spider mite (Oligonychus aceris (Shimer)) on 'Red Sunset' red maple (Acer rubrum) and 'Autumn Blaze' Freeman maple (Acer×freemanii) during two years in Indiana. N fertilization increased leaf N concentration in both maple cultivars, albeit to a lesser extent during the second year of the study. Overall, Red Sunset maples were more susceptible to E. fabae injury than Autumn Blaze, whereas Autumn Blaze maples supported higher populations of O. aceris. Differences in populations of O. aceris were attributed to differences between communities of stigmaeid and phytoseiid mites on each cultivar. Injury caused by E. fabae increased with N fertilization in a dose-dependent manner in both cultivars. Although N fertilization increased the abundance of O. aceris on both maple cultivars, there was no difference between the 20 and 40 g rates. We suggest the capacity of N fertilization to increase O. aceris on maples could be limited at higher trophic levels by the community of predatory mites.

Effects of pesticide application on arthropod pests of nursery-grown maples. JOURNAL OF ECONOMIC ENTOMOLOGY 2014; 107:708-717. Abstract
Insecticides used against potato leafhopper, Empoasca fabae (Harris) (Homoptera: Cicadellidae), have been reported to cause problems with maple spider mite, Oligonychus aceris (Shimer) (Acarina: Tetranychidae), on nursery-grown 'Red Sunset' red maple and 'Autumn Blaze' Freeman maple. To test this, we conducted two experiments on field-grown trees in nurseries. In the first, the effects of early-season pesticide applications were examined during 2009. The second experiment was conducted in 2010 to compare effects of using threshold levels of one, three, or six leafhoppers per branch to time applications. Pesticide applications reduced abundance and damage by leafhoppers in both cultivars, but increased populations of O. aceris on Autumn Blaze during 2009. In contrast, on Red Sunset, populations of O. aceris did not increase after insecticide applications. In 2010, insecticide applications did not increase abundance of O. aceris on Autumn Blaze because use of treatment thresholds to manage leafhoppers greatly reduced numbers of trees requiring treatment for leafhoppers. Two phytoseiid mites, Neoseiulus fallacis (Garman) and Typhlodromus caudiglans (Schuster), and one stigmaeid, Zetzellia mali (Ewing), were identified as the principal predators of O. aceris on maple leaves. Insecticide applications had no significant effects on the total abundance of predatory mites on either Red Sunset or Autumn Blaze maples in 2009 or 2010. However, populations of predator Z. mali were higher during both years on Red Sunset than on Autumn Blaze. These results suggest that both early-season pesticide use and cultivar can affect the likelihood of secondary outbreaks of spider mites on maples.

Abstract
In the last years, there has been an increase in the production, industrialization and consumption of goat's milk and derivate products, including cheese, worldwide. Nevertheless, in Costa Rica there is no study of these products, reason why the objective of this work was to determine the microbiological characteristics of goat's milk and fresh cheese distributed in the Metropolitan Area of San José, Costa Rica, in order to evaluate its impact in the economical field and as a potential risk for Public Health. A total of 25 raw goat's milk samples, obtained by manual milking from 5 different producers tested in five different dates and 15 cheese samples, elaborated with pasteurized milk, commercially available and coming from three different producers were analyzed. The study included the analysis of spoilage bacteria (total aeobic count and lactic bacteria count), indicators of hygiene (total coliforms), fecal contamination (fecal coliforms), manipulation (Staphylococcus aureus) and pathogens (Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella spp). High results were obtained for the total aerobic count and lactic bacteria count of the milk and cheese samples, showing a reduced shelf life. Total coliforms, in limits beyond the established ones by the Costa Rican legislation for human consumption raw milk, were found in 100% of milk samples, as well as for fecal coliforms in 76% of them. All cheese samples, except one, were negative for these indicators, suggesting good manufacturing practices. S. aureus counts were low and both Salmonella spp. and L. monocytogenes were not isolated from samples analyzed.

Abstract
UNLABELLED The typical case present with a unilateral, atypical claudication with discrete oedema, occurring after repeated exercise. These paradoxical features of venous pain, aggravation with attacks, resolution after prolonged rest and the absence of arterial signs are suggestive of the disease. The syndrome may present as repeated calf thromboses or recurrent varicose veins suggesting some deep obstruction. An inflammatory and oedematous process linked to exercise is associated with a congenital predisposition: a constriction of the venous arcade at the insertion of the soleus. Phlebography confirms the absence of thrombophlebitis and shows underlying stasis and poor opacification of the deep popliteal and, most importantly, anterior hooking and actual kinking of the vein on the lateral film which persists on mild flexion. A simple surgical procedure to free the vein turns this incapacitating and potentially thrombogenic pathology into a benign condition. Abstract
Electromyogram studies were conducted in 55 patients with the thoracic outlet syndrome, together with the motor nerve conduction velocity (M.N.C.V) in the median cubital nerves, between the Erb's point and axilla and in the upper limb. Distal S.N.C.V. was measured in 19 cases. Proximal nerve compression was confirmed in 29% of cases, with associated carpal canal compression in 22%. The proximal N.C.V. of the median and cubital in the neurological forms, and of the median in the neurovascular forms, were significantly different from normal values in 18 control subjects, but were not so in the vascular forms. Through E.M.G. examination cannot confirm the need for surgery it can supply supportive evidence. No correlation between the clinical course and the proximal N.C.V. was found in the 18 patients seen after treatment (surgery in 13 cases).

Abstract
We describe a new type of arteriovenous fistula for haemodialysis, aimed at controlling arterial spasms which contribute to thrombosis. A laterolateral fistula is created, and the artery is sectioned below the anastomosis. A Fogarty catheter inserted through this "safety valve" relieves the spasm without interfering with the arteriovenous shunt. Mere ligature of the distal segment of the artery transforms the fistula from terminolateral into terminoterminal.

Abstract
Rheoplethysmography with occlusion (RPO) is useful in the diagnosis of deep venous thrombosis. Bilateral phlebography with cavography performed afterwards as an emergency gives information as to the embolic potential of the thrombosis and orientates treatment towards surgical interruption of the inferior vena cava. In the C.H.U. at Grenoble 83 clips, 25 umbrella filters and 2 ligatures were placed on the inferior vena cava from 1974 to 1977. Prevention of pulmonary emboli was achieved in 99% cases with lower limb embolic foci. Follow-up by RPO and isotopic phlebography showed that the course of venous thrombosis of the lower limbs seemed to be unchanged by partial interruption of the inferior vena cava, provided that elastic stockings and adequate anticoagulant therapy adapted to venous haemodynamics are used.

Abstract
The authors report their experience of 30 mesenterico-caval anastomoses with prosthetic interposition according to Drapanas's technic. From the point of view of the operative indications, they have never carried out a prophylactic operation. In 19 cases, the operation was carried out as an emergency for inefficacy of the medical treatment. In 11 cases, a cold operation was performed, either to prevent eventual hemorrhagic recurrence (8 cases) or for chronic ascites (3 cases). Half the patients belonged to group C with a poor surgical risk. There was only one case of post-operative thrombosis due to a technical error, and two cases of secondary thrombosis. The overall mortality was 60%. But when the patient was of group A or B the mortality was only 20%. The survivors are those in whom the operation was rapid and the blood loss minimal. To conclude, the authors the necessity of better selection of patients, and rapid operation without bleeding.

Abstract
The authors present 39 carotid lesions from various and sometimes unusual origins: ski accident, cervical irradiation. The lesions have a preferential topography according to etiology: internal carotid for blunt trauma and arteriographic lesions, common carotid for penetrating injuries, common and bifurcation for X-ray lesions. Arteriography and surgical exploration confirm this notion. Macroscopic lesions don't always accord to the classical aspect: thus, only one intimal lesion has been found in blunt trauma. Symptomatology is orientated by etiology: neurological symptoms in blunt trauma and X-ray lesions, vascular symptoms in penetrating injuries. The diagnosis has sometimes been made at a distance from the initial accident and in unusual circumstances, mainly in blunt trauma. The treatment has been a surgical one except for usual countra-indications. The results are favourable on young subjects and above all for particular lesions such as penetrating injuries and X-ray lesions. Lastly, the authors insist on the post-operative evolutivity which is often misunderstood, and on the interest of an angiographic control.
