Abstract
Ovarian endometriosis is characterized by the growth of endometrial tissue within the ovary, causing infertility and chronic pain. However, its pathophysiology remains unclear. Utilizing high-precision single-cell RNA sequencing, we profile the normal, eutopic, and ectopic endometrium from 34 individuals across proliferative and secretory phases. We observe an increased proportion of ciliated cells in both eutopic and ectopic endometrium, characterized by a diminished expression of estrogen sulfotransferase, which likely confers apoptosis resistance. After translocating to ectopic lesions, endometrial epithelium upregulates nicotinamide N-methyltransferase expression that inhibits apoptosis by promoting deacetylation and subsequent nuclear exclusion of transcription factor forkhead box protein O1, thereby leading to the downregulation of the apoptotic gene BIM. Moreover, epithelial cells in ectopic lesions elevate HLA class II complex expression, which stimulates CD4+ T cells and consequently contributes to chronic inflammation. Altogether, our study provides a comprehensive atlas of ovarian endometriosis and highlights potential therapeutic targets for modulating apoptosis and inflammation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Extracellular adenosine triphosphate (eATP) is an important inflammatory mediator that can boost the antitumour immune response, but its role in endometriosis remains unknown. We hypothesized that eATP could inhibit endometriosis cell function both directly and indirectly through macrophages. METHODS Peritoneal and cyst fluid from endometriosis patients and non-endometriosis controls was collected to measure eATP levels. The addition of eATP was performed to explore its effects on endometriotic cell and macrophage functions, including cell proliferation, apoptosis, pyroptosis, mitochondrial membrane potential, phagocytosis, and the production of inflammatory cytokines and reactive oxygen species. A coculture of endometriotic epithelial cells and U937 macrophages was established, followed by P2X7 antagonist and eATP treatment. Endometriosis model eATP-treated rats were used to evaluate in situ cell death and macrophage marker expression. RESULTS The pelvic microenvironment of endometriosis patients shows high eATP levels, which could induce endometriotic epithelial cell apoptosis and pyroptosis and significantly inhibit cell growth via the MAPK/JNK/Akt pathway. eATP treatment ameliorated endometriosis-related macrophage dysfunction and promoted macrophage recruitment. eATP treatment in the presence of macrophages exerted a stronger cytotoxic effect on endometriotic epithelial cells by regulating P2X7. eATP treatment effectively induced cell death in an endometriosis rat model and prominently increased the macrophage number without affecting the eutopic endometrium. CONCLUSION eATP induces endometriotic epithelial cell death and enhances the immune function of macrophages to inhibit the progression of endometriosis, while eutopic endometrium is not affected. eATP treatment may serve as a nonhormonal therapeutic strategy for endometriosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND High-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) is the biggest cause of gynecological cancer-related mortality because of its extremely metastatic nature. This study aimed to explore and evaluate the characteristics of candidate factors associated with the metastasis and progression of HGSOC. METHODS Transcriptomic data of HGSOC patients' samples collected from primary tumors and matched omental metastatic tumors were obtained from three independent studies in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were selected to evaluate the effects on the prognosis and progression of ovarian cancer using data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Hub genes' immune landscapes were estimated by the Tumor Immune Estimation Resource (TIMER) database. Finally, using 25 HGSOC patients' cancer tissues and 10 normal fallopian tube tissues, immunohistochemistry (IHC) was performed to quantify the expression levels of hub genes associated with International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stages. RESULTS Fourteen DEGs, ADIPOQ , ALPK2 , BARX1 , CD37 , CNR2 , COL5A3 , FABP4 , FAP , GPR68 , ITGBL1 , MOXD1 , PODNL1 , SFRP2 , and TRAF3IP3 , were upregulated in metastatic tumors in every database while CADPS , GATA4 , STAR , and TSPAN8 were downregulated. ALPK2 , FAP , SFRP2 , GATA4 , STAR , and TSPAN8 were selected as hub genes significantly associated with survival and recurrence. All hub genes were correlated with tumor microenvironment infiltration, especially cancer-associated fibroblasts and natural killer (NK) cells. Furthermore, the expression of FAP and SFRP2 was positively correlated with the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage, and their increased protein expression levels in metastatic samples compared with primary tumor samples and normal tissues were confirmed by IHC ( P = 0.0002 and P = 0.0001, respectively). CONCLUSIONS This study describes screening for DEGs in HGSOC primary tumors and matched metastasis tumors using integrated bioinformatics analyses. We identified six hub genes that were correlated with the progression of HGSOC, particularly FAP and SFRP2 , which might provide effective targets to predict prognosis and provide novel insights into individual therapeutic strategies for HGSOC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effect of Specnuezhenide on myelosuppression induced by chemotherapy and clarify its mechanism. METHODS In this study, we measured peripheral blood cells, thymus index, spleen index, bone marrow nucleated cells (BMNCs), and the number of cell colonies counted in vitro by hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPCs) to determine the effect of SPN on cyclophosphamide (CTX)-induced myelosuppression. The alterations in the expression of relevant proteins, the cell cycle, and cytokines associated with hematopoietic cells were examined to better understand how it works. RESULTS In the cyclophosphamide-induced mouse model, our study discovered that SPN can increase the number of peripheral blood cells and BMNCs after treatment, increase the thymus index and decrease the spleen index, and promote the proliferation and differentiation of HPCs. SPN can improve the production of cultured colonies in vitro, reduce the level of hematopoietic factors in vivo, regulate the proportion of G0/G1 phase cells, and promote the normal growth and development of cells. SPN can increase the expression levels of key proteins MEK and p-ERK in the MAPK signaling pathway, which may be one of the important mechanisms for improving myelosuppression. CONCLUSION SPN can enhance the hematological and immunological functions of myelosuppressionmice, and it is hypothesized that SPN is extremely helpful to the hematopoietic and immune functions of tumor patients following chemotherapy. SPN might be used to treat myelosuppression. Additionally, high doses of SPN have a stronger therapeutic effect than low levels of SPN.

Abstract
In this study, we aimed to demonstrate the therapeutic effect of Ligustri Lucidi Fructus on chemotherapy-induced myelosuppression and elucidate its mechanism. A pharmacological study was conducted to investigate the mechanism of the inhibiting effects of Ligustri Lucidi Fructus on cyclophosphamide-induced bone marrow suppression in mice. HPLC was used to measure the chemical components. We demonstrated that medium and high doses of Ligustri Lucidi Fructus increased the amount of white blood cells and bone marrow nucleated cells (p < 0.05) in the cyclophosphamian-induced mouse model, and at the same time reduced granulocyte-macrophage-colony stimulating factor and thrombopoietin in the serum of myelosuppression mice (p < 0.01). Medium and high doses of Ligustri Lucidi Fructus can also adjust the thymus index and spleen index(p < 0.05). Ligustri Lucidi Fructus regulates the balance of bcl-2/bax, inhibits the expression of Caspase-3 and meanwhile stimulates the expression of mitogen-activated protein (MEK) and phospho extracellular regulated protein kinases (p-ERK) on the MAPK pathway. Five chemical constituents of Ligustri Lucidi Fructus, which may be related to myelosuppression, were analyzed. The content of specnuezhenide was 0.281%, that of ligustroflavone was 0.004%, that of salidroside was 0.094%, that of hydroxytyrosol was 0.060% and that of tyrosol was 0.069%. The effect of Ligustri Lucidi Fructus on myelosuppression after chemotherapy may be related to its multicomponent and multitarget nature. Ligustri Lucidi Fructus may be a promising potential drug for treatment after chemotherapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Our previous work revealed the high expression of fibrinogen alpha chain (FGA) in patients with endometriosis (EM) and that it could promote the migration and invasion of endometrial stromal cells. Angiogenesis is the key condition for the development of EM. This study was aimed to elucidate the role of FGA in endometrial stromal cells involved in angiogenesis in EM. METHODS Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the microvessel density (MVD) and VEGF expression in the eutopic endometrium samples from EM and non-EM. The conditioned medium (CM) of human primary eutopic endometrial stromal cells (EuESC) and immortalized endometrial stromal cell line hEM15A with FGA knockdown were collected and used to treat human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Then, tube formation assay, EdU assay, wound assay, transwell assay and flow cytometry assays were performed to assess the function of HUEVCs in vitro. The angiogenic capability of HUVECs was further measured using a matrigel plug assay with BALB/c nude mice in vivo. Immunofluorescence was used to detect the expression of F-actin and VE-cadherin. RT-PCR and western blotting were used to detect the expression of angiogenesis-related factors in endometrial stromal cells and downstream signalling pathways in HUVECs. RESULTS MVD and VEGF expression in the eutopic endometrium of EM patients were significantly higher than those in the normal endometrium of non-EM patients, and the increased MVD in EM indicates an increased risk of recurrence. Functionally, we found that CM of endometrial stromal cells with FGA knockdown could inhibit HUEVCs migration and tube formation in vitro and in vivo, while having no significant effect on HUVECs proliferation, apoptosis and cell cycle. Mechanically, the expression of VEGFA, PDGF, FGF-B, VEGF, MMP-2 and MMP-9 was reduced in hEM15A cells with FGA knockdown. CM of hEM15A cells with FGA knockdown reduced the number of microfilaments and pseudopodia, as well as the expression of VE-cadherin, and inhibited the activity of VEGFR2 and the FAK signalling pathway in HUVECs. CONCLUSION Our study demonstrated FGA could enhance the interaction between endometrial stromal cells and HUVECs via the potential VEGA-VEGFR-FAK signalling axis and promote EM angiogenesis, revealing a promising therapeutic approach for EM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND 5-O-methylvisammioside (MeV), also known as 4'-O-β-D-glucosyl-5-O-methylvisamminol, is a conventional marker compound for quality control of roots of Saposhnikovia diviaricata (Radix Saposhnikoviae), which exhibits anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective activities. PURPOSE According to the activity of MeV, we speculated that MeV may have antidepressant effect on LPS induced depression, and further explored its mechanism. STUDY DESIGN First, to explore the effect and mechanism of MeV on LPS-induced depression in mice, and then to further explore the effect and mechanism of MeV on LPS-activated BV-2 microglia. METHODS By the OFT, EPM, TST and FST behavioral tests, to explore the effect of MeV pretreatment on the behavior of LPS-induced depression mice. ELISA and Griess method were used to detect the changes of the serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels, the hippocampus SOD and MDA levels, and the NO, SOD, MDA, TNF-α and IL-6 levels in the culture medium of LPS-stimulated BV-2 microglia. Western blot was used to analyze the protein expression in the Nf-κB/IκB-α and BDNF/TrkB pathway in the hippocampus of mice and BV-2 microglia. RESULTS MeV (4 mg/kg, i.p.) pretreatment significantly improves the activity and exploration ability of LPS-induced depression mice, and reduces the immobility time. MeV inhibited the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the serum of mice induced by LPS, such as IL-6 and TNF-α. MeV also increased the levels of SOD and reduces the expression of MDA in the hippocampus, thus promoting the alleviation of depressive symptoms in mice. Western blotting analysis showed that the antidepressant activity of MeV was related to the decrease of Nf-κB nuclear transport, the inhibition of IκB-α phosphorylation, and the increase of BDNF and TrkB expression. MeV (40 μM) significantly reduced the contents of NO, MDA, TNF-α and IL-6 in the culture medium of LPS-stimulated BV-2 microglia, and increased the content of SOD. CONCLUSION MeV can regulate the neurotrophic factors in the mouse brain, reduce the content of inflammatory factors by the Nf-κB/IκB-α pathway, improve oxidative stress, and inhibit the excessive activation of LPS-stimulated BV -2 microglia. It effectively reversed the depression-like behAavior induced by LPS in mice.

Abstract
A rich of 3,4-seco-lupane triterpenoids including chiisanoside (CSS), divaroside (DVS), sessiloside-A1 (SSA) and chiisanogenin (CSG) were isolated from the ethanol extract of the leaves of Acanthopanax sessiliflorus. On the basis of previous studies, this article focused on four important components of 3,4-seco-lupane triterpenoids in Acanthopanax sessiliflorus leaves and explored their protective effects against aconitine-induced cardiomyocyte injury and their molecular mechanisms. The results showed that pretreatment with 3,4-seco-lupane triterpenoids could effectively increase cell viability, reduce CK-MB and LDH activities, reduce ROS production, maintain calcium concentration balance, and inhibit apoptosis, with divaroside having the best effect. In addition, Western blot results showed that divaroside down-regulated Cleaved caspase-3 and Bax and up-regulated Bcl-2 expression through activating the PI3 K/AKT pathway. However, the LY294002 inhibitor reversed this situation. This suggests that 3,4-seco-lupane triterpenoids may be a new hotspot for potential myocardial protective drugs research.

Abstract
A rich of 3,4-seco-lupane triterpenoids (3,4-SLT), including chiisanoside (CSS), divaroside (DVS), sessiloside-A1 (SSA), chiisanogenin (CSG), sessiligenin (SSG), were isolated from the ethanol extract of the leaves of Eleutherococcus sessiliflorus (LES). The present study was performed to explore the cytotoxic and anti-tumor effects of the isolated five ones, as well as potential molecular mechanisms. The results of a CCK-8 assay demonstrated that these 3,4-SLT can inhibit the growth of HepG2 cells, and SSG showed the most significant cytotoxicity. Hoechst 33258 fluorescence staining and Annexin V-FITC/PI staining indicated that 3,4-SLT in LES can induce HepG2 cell apoptosis effectively. The AutoDock Vina program was used to simulate molecular docking of drugs and targets to discuss possible pharmacological mechanisms. Besides, western blot and qRT-PCR results indicated that SSG can inhibit PI3K/AKT signaling pathway through controlling multi-targets. This study suggested that 3,4-SLT might become a new research hotspot for antineoplastic drugs.

Abstract
Panaxynol (PAL, also called falcarinol) is widely found in plants of the Umbelliferae family, among which carrots are rich in PAL, so it is proved to be edible. PAL has neuroprotective effects and other pharmacological activities. This study aimed to explore the effects and mechanisms of action of PAL on chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS)-induced anxiety and depression in mice. The effects of PAL on behavioral activities in mice were first assessed by a CUMS-induced depression model. The secretion levels of monoamine neurotransmitters and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis-related hormones were measured by ELISA. Western blotting was used to analyze the expression of glucocorticoid receptor (GR), glutamate receptor 1 (GluR1) and synapse-associated protein in the hippocampus. The behavioral experiment results showed that PAL can improve exploratory behavior and activities in mice. Meanwhile, PAL can significantly activate the release of 5-HT/5-HIAA and DA/HVA in the hippocampus. It inhibits the expression of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), corticosterone (CORT) and corticotrophin-releasing hormone (CRH) in serum and the hypothalamus. The contents of GR, glutamate receptor 1 (GluR1), postsynaptic density-95 (PSD95) and synapsin I protein in the hippocampus significantly increased. Studies have found that PAL can inhibit the hyperfunction of the HPA axis, which may be achieved by regulating HPA axis hormones and GR. Meanwhile, PAL promotes the release of 5-HT and DA in the hippocampus and improves synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus, allowing neurotransmitters to function more effectively. Therefore, PAL may improve anxiety and depression-like effects in mice through the abovementioned effects.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Tyrosine kinase with immunoglobulin and epidermal growth factor homology domains 2 (Tie2)-expressing monocytes (TEMs) are a highly proangiogenic subset of myeloid cells, which are characterized by expressing the angiopoietin receptor Tie2 with pro-tumor activity. PURPOSE The present study aimed to determine the clinical value of circulating TEMs (cTEMs) for cervical cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were obtained from 7 healthy volunteers, 17 uterine fibroid patients, 24 cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) II patients, 31 CIN III patients and 99 patients with cervical cancer. The cTEMs were evaluated by the ratio of Tie2+ CD14+ cells to all CD14+ monocytes in the PBMCs through flow cytometry. The diagnostic value of cTEM was assessed by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and the correlation between cTEM and clinicopathological characters in cervical cancer patients was analyzed. RESULTS The proportion of cTEMs was gradually increasing from healthy volunteers to patients with non-invasive lesions, then to cervical cancer patients. The area under the ROC curve was 0.913 when the level of cTEMs was used to distinguish cervical cancer from all the other women ranging from healthy volunteers to CIN III patients. In cervical cancer, an increased cTEM fraction was significantly correlated with advanced tumor stage, larger tumor size, lymph node metastasis (LNM), deep stromal infiltration, parametrial involvement and lymph-vascular space invasion and was an independent risk factor for LNM. CONCLUSION The cTEM proportion might be a promising biomarker for the malignant transformation of cervical lesions and the progression of cervical cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Lymph node metastasis (LNM) is an important determinant of prognosis in patients with cervical cancer. Members of the angiopoietin family have been demonstrated to regulate tumor-associated angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis. This study aimed to investigate the expression levels of angiopoietin-1 (ANG1) and angiopoietin-2 (ANG2) in clinically early stage of cervical cancer along with their correlations with LNM. METHODS In total, 124 human cervical cancer cases classified into stage IA-IIB in accordance with the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) 2009 staging criteria were included. ANG1 and ANG2 expression levels in the tumor sections were assessed by immunohistochemistry (IHC). Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models, including age at diagnosis, FIGO stage, tumor size, pathological type, histological grading, depth of stromal invasion, lymph-vascular space invasion (LVSI) and the expression status of ANG1 and ANG2, were used to evaluate the odds ratios (ORs) for LNM. RESULTS ANG1 and ANG2 were positively expressed in 75 (60.5%) and 89 (71.8%) cervical cancers respectively, with predominant staining in the cytoplasm. ANG1 expression was significantly decreased in tumors with LNM, while no correlation was observed between ANG2 expression and LNM. More importantly, the multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that high ANG1 expression was an independent protective factor of LNM (OR 0.107, 95% confidential interval [CI] 0.020~0.567), while LVSI was an independent risk factor of LNM (OR 34.313, 95% CI 5.914~199.092). CONCLUSION ANG1 is associated with a significantly decreased risk of LNM in early stage cervical cancer. The predictive value and role of ANG1 in LNM needs to be further investigated in future studies.

Abstract
BNIP3 is a proapoptotic protein that mediates apoptosis, necrosis and autophagy. However, the involvement of BNIP3 in cisplatin‐induced apoptosis in ovarian cancer is not clear. In this study, we examined the role of BNIP3 in ovarian cancer during cisplatin treatment and its correlation with clinical outcomes. We first measured cisplatin cytotoxicity and BNIP3 levels before and after cisplatin exposure for ovarian cancer cell lines A2780, SKOV3, OVCAR4, OV2008, ES2 and HO8910. BNIP3 was observed to be differentially expressed in these cell lines, and cisplatin induced a significant increase in BNIP3 levels in A2780 and OVCAR4. BNIP3 knockdown with siRNA in A2780 and OVCAR4 significantly reduced cisplatin cytotoxicity in these two cell lines and alleviated cisplatin‐induced apoptosis. We searched the online databases Gene Expression Omnibus and The Cancer Genome Atlas to analyze the correlation between BNIP3 level and overall survival and progression‐free survival in patients with ovarian cancer. Pooled analyses showed that higher BNIP3 level was correlated with poorer overall survival (95% confidence intervals; hazard ratio = 1.18, 1.04–1.34; P = 0.013) and progression‐free survival (95% confidence intervals; hazard ratio = 1.26, 1.10–1.43; P = 0.00049). However, the results of individual datasets and stratification analyses of histology, FIGO (Federation Internationale de Gynecolgie et d’Obstetrique) stage, chemotherapy regimen and P53 mutation status varied. These findings indicate that cisplatin‐induced apoptosis is dependent on BNIP3 level in ovarian cancer cell lines. Targeting BNIP3 may therefore be a potential way of restoring cisplatin sensitivity.

Abstract
Background EZH2 acts as an oncogene through canonical pathway EZH2/H3K27Me3 and uncanonical pathway pAkt1/pS21EZH2 in many solid tumors including ovarian cancer. However, the clinical value of EZH2/H3K27Me3 and pAkt1/pS21EZH2 remain unclear. In the current study, we aim to investigate the correlation between these two pathways to clinical-pathological parameters and prognosis. Methods EZH2, H3K27Me3, pAkt1 and pS21EZH2 expression were evaluated by tissue micro-array and immunohistochemistry in a cohort of ovarian cancer patients. The results were analyzed based on clinical characteristics and survival outcomes. Results EZH2, H3K27Me3, pAkt1 and pS21EZH2 were universally expressed in ovarian cancer specimens with a positive expression rate of 81.54% (53/65), 88.89% (48/54), 63.07% (41/65) and 75.38% (49/65). EZH2-pS21EZH2 (Spearman r = 0.580, P < 0.0001) and pS21EZH2-pAkt1 (Spearman r = 0.546, P < 0.0001) were closely correlated while EZH2- H3K27Me3 were less closely correlated (Spearman r = 0.307, P = 0.002). Low pS21EZH2 associated with better chemotherapy response (OR = 0.184; 95% CI [0.052–0.647], P = 0.008) according to logistic regression with an area under the curve of 0.789 (specificity 89.36%, sensitivity 68.42%) by ROC analysis and predicted improved progression-free survival (HR = 0.453; 95% CI [0.229–0.895], P = 0.023) as indicated by multivariate cox regression. A combination of EZH2low/H3K27Me3low status predicted better chemotherapy response (OR = 0.110; 95% CI [0.013–0.906], P = 0.040) and better progression-free survival (HR = 0.388; 95% CI [0.164–0.917], P = 0.031). The results suggested that EZH2/H3K27Me3 and pEZH2 predicted chemotherapy response and progression-free survival in ovarian cancer.

Abstract
We investigated the mechanism of action of panaxynol (PAL) extract from the root of Saposhnikovia diviaricata (Turcz.) Schischk for treating acute liver injury caused by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and D-galactosamine (D-Gal N) in mice. A mouse model of acute liver failure induced by LPS/D-Gal N was established. Mice were divided randomly into three equal groups: control group, LPS/D-Gal N group and PAL group. After seven days of continuous PAL administration, all animals except controls were injected with 50 μg/kg LPS and 800 mg/kg D-Gal N; blood and liver samples were collected after 8 h. Compared to the LPS/D-Gal N group, the levels of catalase, glutathione and superoxide dismutase were increased in the liver of the PAL group. The inflammatory response index indicated that PAL attenuated LPS/D Gal N-induced liver pathological injury and decreased levels of hepatic malondialdehyde, serum alanine aminotransferase, aspartate transaminase, tumor necrosis factor-α, and interleukins 1β and 6. PAL also inhibited LPS/D-Gal N induced nuclear factor-kappa B (Nf-κB), inhibitor kappa B-α (IκB-α) activation, and up-regulated Nrf2 and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) expression. PAL can prevent LPS/D-Gal N induced acute liver injury by activating Nrf2/HO-1 to stimulate antioxidant defense and inhibit the IkB-α/NF-κB signaling pathway.

Abstract
A new 3,4-seco-lupane triterpene, named sessiligenin (1), along with four known 3,4-seco-lupane triterpene derivatives (chiisanogenin 2, chiisanoside 3, divaroside 4, and sessiliside-A1 5) were isolated from the ethanol extract of the leaves of Eleutherococcus sessiliflorus (Rupr. & Maxim.) S.Y. Hu by silica gel column chromatography, and their structures were determined by spectroscopic data. Furthermore, all these compounds were tested for their cytotoxicities against cancer cell lines HepG2, B16-F10, Lewis and YAC-1, as well as normal cell lines NCTC1469 and HL-7702, and significant cytotoxicities had been found for this new compound (sessiligenin 1) which exhibited much lower cytotoxicities against normal cell lines NCTC1469 and HL-7702. It was deduced that the reduce of glycosyl from the structures of these 3,4-seco-lupane triterpenoids enhanced the cytotoxicities. Furthermore, with the complete removal of glycosyl group and the 11-hydroxyl and 3-carboxyl formed by the opening of the lactone ring, the cytotoxicity increased significantly.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore whether Arctigenin-Valine ester (ARG-V) can treat myelosuppression caused by chemotherapy. METHODS The number of peripheral blood cells of the mice was measured by an automatic blood analyzer, and the hematopoietic progenitor colonies CFU-GM, CFU-E, BFU-E, and CFU-Meg were cultured in vitro. Hematopoietic progenitor colonies and BMNCs were counted under an inverted microscope. The expressions of cytokines GM-CSF, EPO and TPO were detected by ELISA. The cell cycle was measured by flow cytometry. The expressions of related proteins MEK and p-ERK were quantitated by western blots, and the thymus index and spleen index were quantitated. RESULTS After taking ARG-V, the peripheral blood cells of the mice gradually returned to normal, the number of nucleated cells in the bone marrow increased, the thymus index increased, the spleen index decreased, the number of hematopoietic progenitor cells increased, and the hematopoietic cytokines decreased. And ARG-V promoted the transformation of myelosuppression cells from G0/G1 to S and from S to G2/M. ARG-V could up-regulate the expression of MEK and p-ERK, and low dose ARG-V is not as effective in all aspects as high dose ARG-V. CONCLUSION ARG-V can effectively alleviate the myelosuppression that caused by intraperitoneal injection of CTX in 100mg/kg, and ARG-V can promote the proliferation and differentiation of hematopoietic progenitor cells and improve immunity, and the effect of high-dose Arctigenin-Valine ester is more significant to some extent.

Abstract
Armillaria mellea, also known as Hazel mushroom, is a delicious food material and traditional herbal medicine in East Asia. Protoilludane sesquiterpenoid aromatic esters from A. mellea (PSAM) are the main active components with antibacterial and anticancer activities. This study explored the antidepressant-like activities of PSAM and its possible mechanisms of action using the open field test (OFT), tail suspension test (TST) and forced swimming test (FST) in mice for the first time. The results revealed that PSAM (1 mg/kg, i.p.) exhibited markedly antidepressant-like activity, which could be reversed by pretreatment with haloperidol (a non-selective D2 receptor antagonist), bicuculline (a competitive GABA antagonist), NMDA (an agonist at the glutamate site). Meanwhile, PSAM also effectively increased the hippocampus dopamine (DA) and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and decreased the hippocampus glutamate (Glu) levels of mice, indicating that the antidepressant-like effect of PSAM might be mediated by the DAergic, GABAergic and Gluergic systems.

Abstract
Ginsenoside compound K (CK) is not a ginsenoside that naturally exists in Panax ginseng Meyer. However, CK is a major metabolite of ginsenoside Rb1, Rb2, or Rc in the intestine under the effects of bacteria. In this study, we first investigated the effects of CK on myelosuppression in mice induced by cyclophosphamide (CTX). The respective quantities of white blood cells, blood platelets, and bone marrow nucleated cells (BMNCs) were determined to be 8.54 ± 0.91 (109/L), 850.90 ± 44.11 (109/L), and 1.45 ± 0.22 (109/L) in the CK-H group by detecting peripheral blood cells and BMNCs. CK-H and CK-L both increased the thymus index by up to 0.62 ± 0.06 (mg/g) and 0.52 ± 0.09 (mg/g), respectively, and significantly increased the yields of colony formation units-granulocyte monocyte and colony formation units-megakaryocytic. According to our study, CK could control apoptosis and promote cells to enter the normal cell cycle by the bcl-2/bax signaling pathway and MEK/ERK signaling pathway. Therefore, the BMNCs could proliferate and differentiate normally after entering the normal cell cycle. So the peripheral blood cells could show a trend of returning to normal. The recovery of peripheral blood cells resulting in the level of cytokines tended to normal. This process may be the mechanisms of CK on myelosuppression. This study provides a reference for ginseng in the treatment of myelosuppression.

Abstract
A new minor 3,4-seco-lupane triterpenene glycosyl ester, named sessiloside-A1 (1), along with three known 3,4-seco-lupane triterpenenes were isolated from the which alcohol extract of the leaves of Eleutherococcus sessiliflorus (Rupr. & Maxim.) S.Y. Hu by silica gel column chromatography, and their structures were determined by spectroscopic methods (UV, IR, NMR and HRMS). Compound 1 was elucidated to be β-D-glucopyranosyl ester of chiisanogenin. At the same time, a new efficient two-step enzymatic hydrolysis method was established to transform chiisanoside (2) → divaroside (3) → 1.

Abstract
Background Ginseng (G) and Ligustrum lucidum Ait (LLA) are core traditional Chinese medicines in treating myelosuppression formula. The present study was designed to profile effect of G and LLA herb pair (G-LLA) on myelosuppressed mice. Methods The mice myelosuppression model was established by intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of cyclophosphamide (Cy). Hematopoietic function of bone marrow was measured by hemopoietic progenitor cell culture and peripheral blood count, and serum hemopoietic factors were tested by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Bone marrow cell cycle was performed by flow cytometry. HPLC was used to measure 20 potential chemical components related to myelosuppression, including ginsenoside Rg1, Re, Rb1, Rc, Rb2, Rb3, Rd, Rk3, Rh4, 20 (S)-Rg3, 20 (R)-Rg3, Rk1, Rg5, salidroside, and so on. Results G, LLA, and G-LLA improved the amount of peripheral blood cells and bone marrow cells of myelosuppressed mice (P < 0.01). They significantly increased the colony quantity of colony-forming unit–granulocyte macrophage, burst-forming unit−erythroid, colony-forming unit−erythroid, and colony-forming unit−megakaryocyte and amount of G2/M and S phase cells (P < 0.01). They also significantly decreased the amount of hematopoiesis-related cytokines (P < 0.01). The content of chemical components in G-LLA changed, and the change of rare saponin was the most obvious. Conclusion These results show that G-LLA herb pair might produce synergistic or complementary compatibility effects on bone marrow suppression after chemotherapy. It suggests that the substance basis of G-LLA for treating bone marrow suppression may be effective chemical components.

Abstract
Major depression disorder, also known as depression, with a significant and persistent low mood as the main clinical features, is the main type of mood disorders. L-menthol (LM), the main active ingredient of mint, has been considered as safe and healthy natural ingredient by the Food and Drug Administration in the USA. In this study, LM (40 mg/kg, i.g.) produced antidepressant-like effect in the forced swimming test (FST) in mice. The sub-effective dose (5 mg/kg, i.g.) of LM combined with the sub-effective dose of fluoxetine (5 mg/kg, i.p.) or reboxetine (2.5 mg/kg, i.p.) could significantly shorten the immobility time in the FST. Pretreatment with ondansetron (a highly selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist, 8 mg/kg, i.p.), bicuculline [a competitive γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) antagonist, 4 mg/kg, i.p.] and haloperidol (a non-selective D2 receptor antagonist, 0.2 mg/kg, i.p.) significantly reversed the antidepressant-like effect of LM (40 mg/kg, i.g.). In contrast, prazosin (a α1-adrenoceptor antagonist, 1 mg/kg, i.p.) and N-methyl-d-aspartic acid (an agonist at the glutamate site, 75 mg/kg, i.p.) did not eliminate the antidepressant-like effect of LM. All of these above indicated that LM is able to induce an antidepressant-like effect mediated by the modification of 5-HTergic, GABAergic and DAergic systems in the FST. LM might be used as combination therapy in depressed patients and is a potential antidepressant.

Abstract
The present study explored the antidepressant-like activity of α-mangostin (α-MG) and the possible mechanism in this process in the tail suspension test (TST) in mice. The results revealed that α-MG (5 mg/kg, i.p.) exhibited markedly antidepressant-like activity, which could be reversed by pretreatment with haloperidol (a non-selective D2 receptor antagonist), bicuculline (a competitive GABA antagonist), p-chlorophenylalanine (an inhibitor of 5-HT synthesis). Meanwhile, α-MG also effectively increased the brain DA, 5-HT and GABA levels in mice exposed to TST, indicating that the antidepressant-like effect of α-MG might be mediated by the GABAergic, serotonergic and dopaminergic systems.[Formula: see text].

Abstract
Background Ginsenoside Re (Re) is one of the major components of Panax ginseng Meyer. Ginsenoside Rk3 (Rk3) is a secondary metabolite of Re. The aim of this study was to investigate and compare the effects and underlying mechanisms of Re and Rk3 on cyclophosphamide-induced myelosuppression. Methods The mice myelosuppression model was established by intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of cyclophosphamide. Peripheral blood cells, bone marrow nucleated cells, and colony yield of hematopoietic progenitor cells in vitro were counted. The levels of erythropoietin, thrombopoietin, and granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulating factor in plasma were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Bone marrow cell cycle was performed by flow cytometry. The expression of apoptotic protein bcl-2, bax, and caspase-3 was detected by Western blotting. Results Both Re and Rk3 could improve peripheral blood cells, bone marrow nucleated cell counts, thymus index, and spleen index. Furthermore, they could enhance the yield of colonies cultured in vitro and make the levels of granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulating factor, erythropoietin, and thrombopoietin normal, reduce the ratio of G0/G1 phase cells, and increase the proliferation index. Finally, Re and Rk3 could upregulate the expression of bcl-2, whereas they could downregulate the expression of bax and caspase-3. Conclusion Re and Rk3 could improve the hematopoietic function of myelosuppressed mice. The effect of Rk3 was superior to that of Re at any dose. Regulating the levels of cytokines, promoting cells enter the normal cell cycle, regulating the balance of bcl-2/bax, and inhibiting the expression of caspase-3 may be the effects of Re and Rk3 on myelosuppression.

Abstract
It is reported that sesquiterpenoids from Panax ginseng (SPG) possess various pharmacological activities, for example, antidepressant, antioxidative, and anti-inflammatory activities. The purpose of this study was to examine the hepatoprotective effects of SPG (2.5 and 10 mg/kg, i.g.) on fulminant liver injury induced by d-galactosamine (d-GalN) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and discuss its mechanisms of action. After 24 h of d-GalN (400 mg/kg, i.p.) and LPS (25 μg/kg, i.p.) exposure, the serum levels of alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST), hepatic malondialdehyde (MDA) level, hepatic activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione (GSH), and hepatic tissue histology were measured. Expression levels of tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and real-time polymerase chain reaction. Moreover, the nuclear factor κ-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cell (NF-κB), nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), sirtuin type 1 (Sirt 1), and heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) were determined by western blotting. The results indicated that SPG evidently restrained the increase of serum ALT and AST levels induced by d-GalN/LPS. SPG obviously downregulated TNF-α and IL-1β levels and their mRNA expression in liver. In addition, d-GalN/LPS injection induced severe oxidative stress in liver by boosting the MDA level as well as decreasing CAT, GSH, and SOD capacities, and SPG reversed these changes. Meanwhile, SPG inhibited NF-κB activation induced by d-GalN/LPS and upregulated Sirt 1, Nrf2, and HO-1 expression levels. Therefore, SPG might protect against the fulminant liver injury induced by d-GalN/LPS via inhibiting inflammation and oxidative stress. The protective effect of SPG on fulminant liver injury induced by d-GalN/LPS might be mediated by the Sirt 1/Nrf2/NF-κB signaling pathway. All of these results implied that SPG might be a promising food additive and therapeutic agent for fulminant liver injury.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the hepatoprotective effect of α-mangostin (α-MG) on lipopolysaccharide/d-galactosamine (LPS/D-GalN)-induced acute liver failure and discover its potential mechanisms in mice. The results showed that α-MG could attenuate LPS/D-GalN-induced liver pathological injury, and decrease the hepatic malondialdehyde (MDA) level, serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α), interleukin-1β and 6 (IL-1β, IL-6) levels and recovery hepatic glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) activities. The results also indicated that α-MG inhibited LPS/D-GalN-induced toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) expression and NF-κB activation. In addition, α-MG up-regulated the expressions of Nrf2 and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1). In conclusion, the results indicated that α-MG could protect against LPS/D-GalN-induced liver failure by activating Nrf2 to induce antioxidant defense and inhibiting TLR4 signaling pathway to induce anti-inflammatory effect.

Abstract
Enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2), which is overexpressed in a wide range of tumors, contributes to ovarian cancer malignancy in several different ways. We aimed to illustrate the role of EZH2 in ovarian cancer cisplatin resistance and to identify possible underlying mechanisms of this role that may provide a rationale for targeting EZH2 in cancer treatment. Here, we present data indicating that EZH2 overexpression is associated with cisplatin resistance and intracellular platinum drug accumulation. Measurements of EZH2 in 84 ovarian cancer patients suggested that patients with high EZH2 levels tend to have poor responses to cisplatin. The EZH2 level progressively increased in cells receiving repeated cisplatin exposure. Downregulation of EZH2 not only sensitized cellular reactions to cisplatin and increased cellular platinum accumulation when cells were exposed to both cisplatin and BODIPY-Pt (a fluorescent cisplatin complex) but also protected copper transporter 1, a high-affinity copper transporter closely related to cisplatin resistance, from cisplatin-induced proteasomal degradation. Overall, these findings identify a new mechanism that expands the unrecognized role of EZH2 in ovarian cancer cisplatin resistance.

Abstract
Background: Arctigenin has many pharmacological activities with clinical significance and is derived from Arctium lappa L. However, the present extraction method is inefficient and does not have meaningful industrial production. Objective: A new method to directly prepare arctigenin was established by combining enzyme-assisted extraction and central composite design. Arctigenin's further pharmacological activity was also surveyed in vitro. Materials and Methods: β-D-Glucosidase, a food-grade enzyme, was added directly to the fruits of A. lappa L. to hydrolyze the arctiin to arctigenin, and the obtained samples were subsequently subjected to ethanol (30%, v/v) extraction. The pharmacological activity of the extraction and arctigenin was determined by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and scavenging nitrite. Results: The factors investigated include the enzyme concentration (0.5%–2.5%), ultrasound time (10 min−3 0 min), and extraction temperature (30°C–50°C). From the analysis of the results by Design-Expert (V8.0.6), the optimal extraction conditions were obtained: enzyme concentration (1.4%), ultrasound time (25 min), and extraction temperature (45°C). The highest yield of arctigenin, obtained under the optimal conditions was 6.39%, representing an increase of 28.15% compared to the reference extraction without enzyme processing. The IC50 values of the extraction and arctigenin, respectively, for inhibiting AChE were 0.572 mg/ml and 0.462 mg/ml, and those for nitrite-scavenging were 34.571 mg/ml and 17.49 mg/ml. Conclusions: The results demonstrate that using an enzyme directly in the production is an effective means for extracting arctigenin from Fructus arctii. The extraction has the activities of inhibiting AChE and scavenging nitrite, probably because there has arctigenin in it. It is implied that the extraction and arctigenin could contribute to human health in clinical applications. SUMMARY The new method of adding enzyme directly to the preparation of arctigenin was carried out instead of preparing arctigenin by two-step method Three factors affecting the efficiency of preparation were analyzed and discussed include the enzyme concentration, ultrasound time, and extraction temperature by central composite design This new method of preparing arctigenin improved the yield significantly than other methods Arctigenin has remarkable pharmacological activities of inhibiting acetylcholinesterase and scavenging nitrite.

Abstract
The previous study indicated sesquiterpenoids from the root of Panax ginseng (SPG) exhibited a significant antidepressant-like effect, which might be mediated by the modification of the dopaminergic, GABAergic, and glutamatergic systems. This study was to investigate antidepressant effects and mechanisms on the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced depression-like behavior of SPG. In the tail suspension test (TST) and forced swimming test (FST), SPG (0.25 and 1 mg/kg, i.g.) and fluoxetine (20 mg/kg, i.p.) effectively reduced the immobility time. SPG treatment significantly reduced serum levels of IL-6 and TNF-α and increased suppressed superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in the hippocampus. In addition, SPG effectively upregulated the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), tropomyosin-related kinase B (TrkB), and sirtuin type 1 (Sirt 1) expression in the hippocampus and downregulated the inhibitor of κB-α (IκB-α) and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) phosphorylation. These results suggested that SPG exhibited an antidepressant-like effect through the BDNF/TrkB and Sirt 1/NF-κB signaling pathways.

Abstract
Beta-sitosterol belongs to the group of phytosterols, which are active trace components existing in natural plants, known as the "key of life", and have a steroid nucleus structure similar to cholesterol. Due to the insolubility issue of beta-sitosterol, most pharmacological studies and clinical applications are limited. Therefore, the modification of beta-sitosterol into its derivatives to enhance its pharmacologic activity is viable. In this study, 4 kinds of new beta-sitosterol derivative were obtained by an esterification reaction with beta-sitosterol, organic acids, EDCI and DMAP in dichloromethane. The chemical structures were defined by IR and NMR. Beta-sitosterol and its derivatives were used to carry out antidepressant research in the tail suspension test (TST) and the forced swimming test (FST) in mice. Additionally, the roles of different parts of the central nervous system (CNS) in the antidepressant-like effect of Sit-S, which is one of the beta-sitosterol derivatives, were also investigated. The results showed that the derivatives exhibited a stronger antidepressant activity than beta-sitosterol. Among the derivatives, administration of Sit-S (4 mg kg-1) gave the lowest immobility time in the TST, demonstrating that Sit-S exhibited the strongest antidepressant-like activity. The study into the roles of different parts of the CNS in the antidepressant-like effect of Sit-S showed that agomelatine (40 mg kg-1), haloperidol (0.2 mg kg-1) and bicuculline (4 mg kg-1) reversed the antidepressant effect of Sit-S (4 mg kg-1). This study confirmed the conclusions that beta-sitosterol derivatives broaden the pharmacological effects of beta-sitosterol, Sit-S (4 mg kg-1) exhibits antidepressant-like effects, and this antidepressant-like effect on male adult mice is mediated by the 5-HT, DA and GABA-ergic systems.

Abstract
In this study, high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity in mouse model was used to evaluate the dietary effect of saponins from stems and leaves of Panax ginseng (SLG), and to explore its mechanism of action in producing anti-obesity effects. The results indicate that SLG showed significant anti-obesity effects in diet-induced obese mice, represented by decreased serum levels of free fatty acids (FFA), total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol, glucose, leptin and insulin, as well as a reduction in overall body and liver weight, epididymal adipose tissue weight, and food efficiency, and inhibition of abnormal increases in acyl carnitine levels normally caused by an HFD. Additionally, the down-regulated expression of PPARγ, FAS, CD36, FATP2 and up-regulated expression of CPT-1, UCP-2, PPARα, HSL, and ATGL in liver tissue was induced by SLG. In addition, the SLG groups showed decreased PPARγ, aP2 and leptin mRNA levels and increased expression of PPARα, PGC-1α, UCP-1 and UCP-3 genes in adipose tissues, compared with the HFD group. In short, SLG may play a key role in producing anti-obesity effects in mice fed an HFD, and its mechanism may be related to regulation of thermogenesis, lipogenesis and lipolysis.

Abstract
Phytosterol is a natural component of vegetable oil and includes ergosterol (ER) and β-sitosterol. In this study, three new ergosterol monoester derivatives were obtained from the reflux reaction with ergosterol, organic acids (furoic acid, salicylic acid, and 2-naphthoic acid), EDCI, and DMAP in dichloromethane. The chemical structures were defined by IR and NMR. On the basis of the results, 2-naphthoic acid ergosterol ester (NE) had the highest tumor inhibition rate and was selected to study anti-tumor activity and its mechanism at doses of 0.025mmol/kg and 0.1mmol/kg in H22-tumor bearing mice. Compared with ER, NE exhibited more stronger anti-tumor activity in vivo. Furthermore, biochemical parameters of ALT, AST, BUN, and CRE showed that NE had little toxicity to mice. NE significantly improved serum cytokine levels of IFN-γ and decreased VEGF levels. Moreover, H&E staining, TUNEL assay, immunohistochemistry, and western blotting indicated that NE exhibited anti-tumor activity in vivo by promoting apoptosis and inhibiting angiogenesis. In brief, the present study provided a method to improve ER anti-tumor activity and a reference for a new anti-tumor agent.

Abstract
Arctigenin (ARG) is famous in its abundant pharmacological activity. However, many researches in it entered the bottleneck period because of its poor water solubility. The derivatives of ARG have been synthesised with five amino acids which have t-Butyloxy carbonyl (BOC) as a protective group. We examined the effects of removing BOC. The results showed that the amino acid derivatives without protective group have better water solubility and nitrite-clearing ability than ARG. Based on these results, ARG6' and ARG9' were selected at a dosage of 40 mg/kg to evaluate their antitumour activity. The percentage inhibition rate of ARG6' and ARG9' were 55.87 and 51.40, respectively, which was twice as much as ARG. Furthermore, they could increase liver and kidney indexes and produce less damage in these organs. In brief, this study provides a basis for new drug development.

Abstract
Phytosterols are a kind of natural component including sitosterol, campesterol, avenasterol, ergosterol (Er) and others. Their main natural sources are vegetable oils and their processed products, followed by grains, by-products of cereals and nuts, and small amounts of fruits, vegetables and mushrooms. In this study, three new Er monoester derivatives were obtained from the reflux reaction with Er: organic acids (furoic acid, salicylic acid and 2-naphthoic acid), 1-Ethylethyl-3-(3-dimethyllaminopropyl) carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDCI) and 4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) in dichloromethane. Their chemical structures were defined by IR and NMR. The present study was also undertaken to investigate the antidepressant-like effects of Er and its derivatives in male adult mice models of depression, and their probable involvement of GABAergic and glutamatergic systems by the forced swim test (FST). The results indicated that Er and its derivatives display antidepressant effects. Moreover, one derivative of Er, ergosteryl 2-naphthoate (ErN), exhibited stronger antidepressant activity in vivo compared to Er. Acute administration of ErN (5 mg/kg, i.p.) and a combination of ErN (0.5 mg/kg, i.p.), reboxetine (2.5 mg/kg, i.p.), and tianeptine (15 mg/kg, i.p.) reduced the immobility time in the FST. Pretreatment with bicuculline (a competitive γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) antagonist, 4 mg/kg, i.p.) and N-methyl-d-aspartic acid (NMDA, an agonist at the glutamate site, 75 mg/kg, i.p.) effectively reversed the antidepressant-like effect of ErN (5 mg/kg, i.p.). However, prazosin (a α1-adrenoceptor antagonist, 1 mg/kg, i.p.) and haloperidol (a non-selective D2 receptor antagonist, 0.2 mg/kg, i.p.) did not eliminate the reduced immobility time. Altogether, these results indicated that ErN produced antidepressant-like activity, which might be mediated by GABAergic and glutamatergic systems.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES There is uncertainty surrounding the prognostic value and clinical utility of peritoneal cytology in endometrial cancer. Our primary objective was to determine if positive cytology is associated with disease-free and overall survival in women treated surgically for endometrial cancer, specifically those with low or intermediate risk disease. METHODS This was a retrospective population-based cohort study of British Columbia Cancer Registry patients who underwent surgery with peritoneal washings for endometrioid-type endometrial cancer from 2003 to 2009. Low risk was defined as Stage IA grade 1 or 2, and intermediate risk defined as Stage IA grade 3, or Stage IB grade 1 or 2 tumours. Five-year overall and disease free-survival were assessed using Kaplan-Meier estimation. Potential covariates including peritoneal cytology, grade, depth of myometrial invasion, LVSI, age, and adjuvant therapy were evaluated in a multivariable Cox proportional hazards model. RESULTS There were 849 patients, of whom 370 (43.6%) and 298 (35.1%) had low- and intermediate-risk disease, respectively. Overall, forty-nine (5.8%) patients had positive cytology, including 6 and 9 with low- and intermediate-risk respectively (2.2% within low and intermediate risk combined). Positive peritoneal cytology was not significantly associated with disease-free (HR 3.17, 95% CI 0.91-11.03) or overall survival (HR 1.33, 95% CI 0.47-3.76) in low and intermediate risk patients. Only age and extensive LVSI were associated with lower overall survival (HR 1.10, 95% CI 1.08-1.13, and HR 2.39, 95% CI 1.02-5.61, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Positive peritoneal cytology was not associated with disease-free and overall survival in women with low and intermediate risk endometrial cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of the traditional Chinese medicine compound Yisui Lixue decoction on apoptosis of marrow cells in rats with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) induced by dimethyl benzanthracene (DMBA).
Methods: The rats with MDS induced by the chemical mutagens DMBA were divided into 5 groups (12 rats in each group): a control group, a model+PBS group, a model+compound Zaofan pill group, a model+low dose of Yisui Lixue decoction group and a model+high dose of Yisui Lixue decoction group. After DMBA treatment for 14 days, rats were treated with different drugs for 1 month and executed on the 31 day. The peripheral blood cells, expressions of B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) and Bcl-2 associated X protein (Bax), apoptosis of bone marrow cells were measured.
Results: The counts of peripheral leukocyte, erythrocyte, hemoglobin and platelet in the model+PBS group were significantly decreased compared with those in the control group (P<0.01), while the peripheral hemograms of the treatment groups were improved significantly compared with those in the model+PBS group (P<0.05 or P<0.01), especially in the model+high dose group (P<0.01). In the model+PBS group, the expressions of Bax and Bcl-2 was significantly increased (P<0.01) or decreased (P<0.01), respectively, which were reversed by treatment of Yisui Lixue decoction (P<0.05 or P<0.01), especially in the model+high dose group (P<0.01). Compared with control group, the total apoptosis rate, earlier apoptosis and later apoptosis rate of bone marrow cells in the model+PBS group were increased (P<0.01), which were blocked by treatment of Yisui Lixue decoction (P<0.05 or P<0.01), and the model+high dose group was better than the model+low dose group.
Conclusion: The traditional Chinese medicine compound Yisui Lixue decoction can improve peripheral hemogram, decrease the expression of Bax, increase the expression of Bcl-2, and reduce the apoptosis of bone marrow cells.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effects and mechanism of Yisui Lixue decoction on dyshaematopoiesis of marrow cell in model rat with myelodysplastic syndrome( MDS) induced by dimethyl benzanthracene( DMBA). METHODS The model rats with MDS were induced by the chemical mutagens DMBA,which randomly divided into normal control group,physiological saline model group,compound Zaofan pill group, low dose group and high dose group of Yisui Lixue decoction,with 12 rats in each group. The rats were treated with different drugs for one month from the 14 th day, and executed on the 31 th day. The degree of bone marrow hyperplasia,dyshaematopoiesis,IL-3 and TNF-α in serum, the expression of CD34,and the proportion of the original cells were measured in the experimental group. RESULTS Compared with the normal control group, the degree of bone marrow hyperplasia was hyperactive and dyshaematopoiesis was more obvious in the physiological saline model group; and in the treatment group were improved, especially in the high dose group of Yisui Lixue decoction. Compared with the normal control group, the content of IL-3 in serum was decreased and TNF-α was increased( P< 0. 01) in the physiological saline model group; the content of IL-3 was increased( P < 0. 05) and THF-α was decreased( P < 0. 05) in the treatment groups, the effects were more obvious( P < 0. 01) in the high dose group of Yisui Lixue decoction. Compared with the normal control group, the positive expression of CD34 and CD45 were significantly increased( P < 0. 01) in the physiological saline model group, and those in treatment groups were decreased( P < 0. 05),especially in the high dose group of Yisui Lixue decoction( P < 0. 01). CONCLUSION Yisui Lixue decoction can improve the degree of bone marrow hyperplasia, dyshaematopoiesis, elevate the expression of IL-3,reduce the expression of TNF-α and CD34 and CD45.
