Bilateral elastofibroma dorsi. A case report and review of the literature

Elastofibroma is a rare benign soft tissue lesion, typically located deep under the lower pole of the scapula. It is characterized by a fibrous and adipose tissue proliferation and most frequently affects older females. Its characteristic location and its specific aspect in imaging studies most often provides the diagnosis following an incidental discovery. Nevertheless, anatomic and pathologic confirmation is necessary to formally rule out a malignant tumor diagnosis. We report a 66-year-old woman original observation; this lady's occupation involved a number of strenuous manual activities; she consulted for chronic pain related to a left subscapular mass. MRI demonstrated, in fact, two symmetrical tumor masses under each scapula. The only symptomatic lesion was surgically excised.

[Mesenchymatous chondrosarcoma of the superior maxillary bone. A case report]

The authors report a new case of mesenchymal chondrosarcoma (MCS), occurring in the upper jaw bone of a 19 year-old woman. Radiographic picture in the bone shows an aggressive osteolytic tumor suspect of malignancy. An incisional biopsy was practiced and the histologic examination has confirmed the diagnosis of MCS. Treatment have consisted of a large resection of maxilla with additional irradiation therapy. The postoperative course was marked by recurrence of the lesion one year later.

[Neuroendocrine carcinoma in Barrett's esophagus. Report of a case]

The neuroendocrine tumours of the oesophagus are exceptional. They are a spectrum of heterogeneous tumours often not clearly defined in the literature. We report a case of moderately differentiated neuroendocrine tumour of the oesophagus arising from Barrett's mucosa in 51-year-old man treated surgically and who was free of disease 28 months after excision. We discuss about this case, the classification, the histogenesis and therapeutic approaches of these tumours.

[Kikuchi-Fujimoto subacute necrotizing lymphadenitis: two histologic forms observed in the same patient]

Histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis, also known as Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease is a rare self-limited condition of young adults usually misdiagnosed as malignant hematologic disease. The diagnosis depends on microscopic findings. Two histologic types are classically described, proliferative and necrotic types. This is a case report of 17 year-old girl who presented cervical lymphadenopathy. The first lymph node biopsy was in favor of malignant lymphoma. The second lymph node biopsy, done one month later, showed typical histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis. To our knowledge, this is the first time that the two forms of this disease are described in the same patient.

[Adrenal myelolipoma. Apropos of 3 cases]

The authors report 3 cases of adrenal myelolipoma arising in 3 women who were respectively 36, 47 and 48 year old. The diagnosis was made on the surgical specimen in 3 cases, and the clinical symptomatology was dominated pain seen in all 3 cases. 2 patients have presented hypertensive access. After surgery, the evolution was favourable in all 3 cases.

[Acute phlegmonous gastritis. Apropos of a case]

Phlegmonous gastritis is a rare bacterial infection of the stomach. Its diagnosis is difficult and has a poor prognosis. The authors report a case of phlegmonous gastritis occurring in a 50 year-old woman in whom the diagnosis was made by microscopic examination after surgery for intestinal occlusion. The patient died a few hours after the operation.
