Colocutaneous fistula relating to the migration of a biliary stent

The endoscopic placement of endoprostheses to decompress biliary obstruction is a commonly used treatment for malignant biliary diseases and is also used in the treatment of benign biliary strictures. Complications of endoprosthesis placement have been described and include the migration of the stent. We present a case of a colonic-cutaneous fistula secondary to the migration of a plastic biliary stent with colonic perforation.

Unusual retrovesical masses in men

Retrovesical masses in men not related to prostatic carcinoma or hyperplasia is an uncommon pathology. Rare masses or unusual manifestations of those common diseases are a diagnostic dilemma. We review our experience in three unusual retrovesical masses in men: carcinosarcoma filling a giant bladder diverticulum; cystic prostatic carcinoma; and acquired cystic dilatation of the seminal vesicle associated with a prostatic carcinoma that obstructed and invaded the vesicle. We report the imaging findings and review the literature. In our experience, the imaging findings are usually not specific for doing a precise diagnosis and biopsy procedures are necessary.

[Intestinal and gastric cystoid pneumatosis associated with duodenal stenosis]

We present a case of pneumatosis cystoides of the stomach and intestine, secondary to peptic pyloric ulcer with duodenal stenosis. Clinical symptoms consisted of abdominal pain and intense vomiting; diagnosis was suspected in the radiologic examination of the abdomen (plain film), which showed and abnormal pattern of gas distribution, and later confirmed by barium contrast. The surgical correction of the underlying cause made the lesion disappear. We also review the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of this rare condition.

[Recurrent Budd-Chiari syndrome as a complication of nocturnal paroxysmal hemoglobinuria]

Budd-Chiari syndrome is a frequent complication of nocturnal paroxysmal hemoglobinuria, histologic and angiographic study being fundamental for diagnosis. We emphasize the importance of ultrasonography and abdominal CAT as noninvasive methods of early diagnosis, and the value of ultrasonography in the follow-up of these patients. Radical therapy of the disease from onset is a determinant of the final prognosis of these patients, as well as early treatment of thrombosis with thrombolytics and/or anticoagulants.

[Hepatic cystadenoma: report of a case]

A case is presented of bilobar hepatic cystadenoma. This is a rare benign tumor in which an adequate preoperative diagnosis is important for correct treatment. A review is made of the literature and controversial aspects of this infrequent lesion are discussed.
