Abstract
The advances of short interfering RNA (siRNA) mediated therapy provide a powerful option for the treatment of many diseases by silencing the expression of targeted genes including cancer development and progression. Inulin is a very simple and biocompatible polysaccharide proposed by our groups to produce interesting delivery systems for Nucleic Acid Based Drugs (NABDs), such as siRNA, either as polycations able to give polyplexes and polymeric coatings for nanosystems having a metallic core. In this research field, different functionalizing groups were linked to the inulin backbone with specific aims including oligoamine such as Ethylendiammine (EDA), Diethylediamine (DETA), Spermine, (SPM) etc. In this contribution the main Inulin-based nanodevices for the delivery of siRNA have been reported, analysed and compared with particular reference to their chemical design and structure, biocompatibility, siRNA complexing ability, silencing ability.

Abstract
Small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) have the potential to be of therapeutic value for many human diseases. So far, however, a serious obstacle to their therapeutic use is represented by the absence of appropriate delivery systems able to protect them from degradation and to allow an efficient cellular uptake. In this work we developed a siRNA delivery system based on inulin (Inu), an abundant and natural polysaccharide. Inu was functionalized via the conjugation with diethylenetriamine (DETA) residues to form the complex Inu-DETA. We studied the size, surface charge and the shape of the Inu-DETA/siRNA complexes; additionally, the cytotoxicity, the silencing efficacy and the cell uptake-mechanisms were studied in the human bronchial epithelial cells (16HBE) and in the hepatocellular carcinoma derived cells (JHH6). The results presented here indicate that Inu-DETA copolymers can effectively bind siRNAs, are highly cytocompatible and, in JHH6, can effectively deliver functional siRNAs. Optimal delivery is observed using a weight ratio Inu-DETA/siRNA of 4 that corresponds to polyplexes with an average size of 600nm and a slightly negative surface charge. Moreover, the uptake and trafficking mechanisms, mainly based on micropinocytosis and clatrin mediated endocytosis, allow the homogeneous diffusion of siRNA within the cytoplasm of JHH6. Notably, in 16 HBE where the trafficking mechanism (caveolae mediated endocytosis) does not allow an even distribution of siRNA within the cell cytoplasm, no significant siRNA activity is observed. In conclusion, we developed a novel inulin-based siRNA delivery system able to efficiently release siRNA in JHH6 with negligible cytotoxicity thus opening the way for further testing in more complex in vivo models.

Abstract
This paper reports the synthesis and characterization of a new amphiphilic inulin graft copolymer able to self-assemble in water into a micelle type structure and to deliver the anticancer model drug doxorubicin. For this aim, inulin was chemically modified in the side chain with primary amine groups (INU-EDA) and these were used as reactive moieties for the conjugation of poly ethylene glycol 2000 and succinyl-ceramide. The CMC of obtained amphiphilic inulin derivatives (INU-ceramide and INU-ceramide-PEG2000) was measured by means of fluorescence analysis using pyrene as the fluorescent probe. The obtained micelles were characterized by DLS and AFM analysis and the ability to release the loaded doxorubicin was studied in different media. Finally the cytotoxicity profile on both cancer (HCT116) and normal (16 HBE) cell lines and in vitro ability to deliver the drug into cancer cells were evaluated.

Abstract
Aims: To synthesize novel polyhydroxyethylaspartamide (PHEA) copolymers containing spermine (Spm) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) moieties in high yields, with the expectation that this material would show stealth properties and the ability to complex DNA by electrostatic interactions. Materials & methods: PHEA–PEG–Spm copolymer was prepared with a two-step reaction. Chemical, physicochemical and biological characterizations of PHEA–PEG–Spm copolymers and their obtained polyplexes with pDNA were performed. Results: The introduction of spermine in PHEA structure allows to obtain a copolymer bearing in the side chains polyamine moieties capable to interact with DNA. On the other hand, the introduction of PEG in polymeric structure increased the DNA condensing ability of PHEA–PEG–Spm copolymer in comparison with the derivatives without PEG (PHEA-Spm), and improved its characteristics of biocompatibility. Conclusions: PHEA–PEG–Spm copolymer shows excellent ability to complex and condense plasmidic DNA giving interpolyelectrolyte complexes to act as gene delivery systems. Moreover, PEGylation confers to the obtained interpolyelectrolyte complexes stealth properties.

Abstract
Aims: To prepare new copolymers, useful for gene delivery, based on α, β-poly-(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-D, L-aspartamide (PHEA) as a polymeric backbone and bearing an oligoamine such as diethylenetriamine in the side chain. Moreover, in order to reduce solvent volume and make the reaction faster, microwave-assisted heating was used. Materials & methods: PHEA copolymers bearing different amounts of diethylenetriamine were prepared using bis(4-nitrophenyl) carbonate as a condensing agent with the use of microwaves. Chemical, physico–chemical and biological characterization of PHEA–diethylenetriamine copolymers and their complexes obtained with DNA were performed. Results: Copolymers showed good DNA complexing and condensing abilities depending on the oligoamine derivatization degree and good hemocompatibility. Moreover, plasmid DNA/copolymer polyplexes showed very good cytocompatibility on B16F10 and N2A cell lines. Conclusion: Results support the use of these copolymers as gene delivery systems in the future. Finally, the use of microwaves makes the proposed synthetic method advantageous as time and solvents are saved.

Abstract
New porous scaffolds, with a suitable hydrolytic and enzymatic degradation, useful for tissue engineering applications have been obtained by a carbodiimide mediated reaction between hyaluronan (HA) and a synthetic polymer with a polyaminoacid structure such as alpha,beta-polyaspartylhydrazide (PAHy). Scaffolds with a different molar ratio between PAHy repeating units and HA repeating units have been prepared and characterized from a chemical and physicochemical point of view. Tests of indirect and direct cytotoxicity, cell adhesion, and spreading on these biomaterials have been performed by using murine L929 fibroblasts. The new biomaterials showed a good cell compatibility and ability to allow cell migration into the scaffolds as well as spreading on their surface.

Abstract
In this paper, the synthesis and characterization of novel amphiphilic graft copolymers based on an α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-D,L-aspartamide (PHEA) backbone and D,L-polylactic acid (PLA) hydrophobic side chains are reported. These copolymers were obtained starting from PHEA-ethylenediamine (PHEA-EDA), which was functionalized with polysorbate 80 (PS(80)) and/or PLA in order to obtain the PHEA-EDA-PS(80)-PLA and PHEA-EDA-PLA samples, respectively. The degrees of derivatization, DD(PS80) and DD(PLA), of PHEA-EDA-PS(80)-PLA, calculated by (1)H-NMR, resulted in being 1.2 ± 0.03 mol% and 0.54 ± 0.05 mol%, respectively, while that of PHEA-EDA-PLA was found to be 0.60 ± 0.05 mol%. Size exclusion chromatography (SEC) analysis confirmed the occurrence of derivatization, the molecular weight values being close to the theoretical ones. Polymeric micelles from PHEA-EDA-PLA and PHEA-EDA-PS(80)-PLA copolymers were obtained by using the dialysis method and were characterized in terms of mean size, zeta potential, critical aggregation concentration (CAC), and surface composition by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis, which demonstrated the presence of PS(80) onto the PHEA-EDA-PS(80)-PLA micelle surface. In vitro experiments demonstrated that these systems had no cytotoxic effects on 16 HBE, Caco2, HuDe and K562 cell lines, and no haemolytic activity. Moreover, both PHEA-EDA-PS(80)-PLA and PHEA-EDA-PLA micelles were able to penetrate into Neuro2a cells and, in the case of PS(80) decorated micelles, to escape from phagocytosis by the J774 A1 macrophages.

Abstract
Alpha,beta-poly(asparthylhydrazide) (PAHy), a water soluble synthetic polymer, was functionalized by using EDCI chemistry with 3-(carboxypropyl)trimethyl-ammonium chloride (CPTACl) obtaining carboxypropyltrimethyl ammonium copolymers (PAHy-CPTA). Three PAHy-CPTA copolymers at increasing derivatization degrees (38%, 48%, 58%) were chosen for subsequent investigations. The capability of these copolymers to bind, neutralize, and protect DNA against degradation by DNase II was evalued by gel retardation assay and DNA degradation test at pH 5.5. Zeta potential measurements show that all studied polymers are able to neutralize the anionic charge of DNA at polymer/DNA weight ratio in the range of 0.8/1-5/1. Polyplex dimensional distribution analyses in bistilled water, saline solution NaCl 0.9%, and HEPES pH 7 show that polyplex size is strongly affected by both presence and type of electrolyte and with time incubation.

Abstract
In this work, novel hydrogel films based on hyaluronan (HA) chemically crosslinked with the alpha,beta-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl) (2-aminoethylcarbamate)-D,L-aspartamide (PHEA-EDA) were produced by solution casting method. The goal was to exploit both the biological key role of HA in tissue repair and regeneration, and the versatility of a synthetic protein-like polymer as the PHEA-EDA, in order to obtain biomaterials with physicochemical and biological properties suitable for a clinical use. By varying the molar ratio between the PHEA-EDA amino groups and HA carboxyl groups, three different films were obtained and characterized. Particularly FTIR, swelling, hydrolysis, and enzymatic degradation studies were performed. In addition, the cytocompatibility of HA/PHEA-EDA hydrogel films was evaluated using human derm fibroblasts, by means of MTT and trypan blue exclusion assays. The high swelling capability, the long-term hydrolysis resistance, and the resistance to hyaluronidase greater than that of only HA, together with the cell compatibility, have suggested the potential application of these novel HA-based hydrogel films in the biomedical field of tissue engineering.

Abstract
In this paper, new composite nanoparticles based on hyaluronic acid (HA) chemically cross-linked with alpha,beta-polyaspartylhydrazide (PAHy) were prepared by the use of a reversed-phase microemulsion technique. HA-PAHy nanoparticles were characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, confirming the occurrence of the chemical cross-linking, dimensional analysis, and transmission electron micrography, showing a sub-micrometer size and spherical shape. Zeta potential measurements demonstrated the presence of HA on the nanoparticle surface. A remarkable affinity of the obtained nanoparticles toward aqueous media that simulate some biological fluids was found. Stability studies showed the absence of chemical degradation in various media, while in the presence of hyaluronidase, a partial degradation occurred. Cell compatibility was evaluated by performing in vitro assays on human chronic myelogenous leukaemia cells (K-562) chosen as a model cell line and a haemolytic test. HA-PAHy nanoparticles were also able to entrap 5-fluorouracil, chosen as a model drug, and release it in a simulated physiological fluid and in human plasma with a mechanism essentially controlled by a Fickian diffusion.

Abstract
Spherical pH-sensitive microparticles have been prepared by reverse phase suspension polymerization technique. Starting polymer has been alpha,beta-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-DL-aspartamide (PHEA) partially derivatized with glycidylmethacrylate (GMA). PHEA-GMA copolymer (PHG) has been crosslinked in the presence of acrylic acid (AA) or methacrylic acid (MA) at various concentration. The obtained microparticles have been characterized by FT-IR spectrophotometry, particle size distribution analysis and scanning electron microscopy. In order to have information about water affinity of the prepared samples, swelling measurements have been carried out in aqueous media which simulate some biological fluids. The possibility to employ the prepared samples as pH-sensitive microparticles has been investigated by performing in vitro release studies. Experimental data have showed that the release rate from these microparticles depends on the environmental pH and the chemical structure of the drug.

Abstract
This article describes the development of solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) as colloidal carriers for cloricromene. Nanoparticles were prepared by the microemulsion or precipitation technique. In vitro drug release profile from SLN was studied under various experimental conditions mimicking some body fluids. The drug release rate of drug at pH 7.4 and human plasma is high. In plasma, after 15 min, about 70% of drug was released. The cloricromene that was not released within 4 hr was found in the SLN. This result suggests that this colloidal system could be useful for targeted drug delivery to the central nervous system after intravenous administration.

Abstract
Paclitaxel was attached to poly(hydroxyethylaspartamide) via a succinic spacer arm by a two-step protocol: (1) synthesis of 2'-O-succinyl-paclitaxel; (2) synthesis of PHEA-2'-O-succinyl-paclitaxel. The 2'-O-succinyl-paclitaxel derivative and the macromolecular conjugate were characterized by UV, IR, NMR and mass spectrometry analysis. The reaction yields were over 95% and the purity of products over 98%. Paclitaxel release and degradation from 2'-O-succinyl-paclitaxel occurred at a faster rate at pH 5.5 than 7.4. After 30 h of incubation at pH 5.5 and 7.4 the released free paclitaxel was about 40 and 20%, respectively. In plasma both drug release and degradation were found to occur at a higher rate than in buffer at pH 7.4 suggesting that an enzymatic mechanism could be involved. The paclitaxel release and degradation from PHEA-2'-O-succinyl-paclitaxel were negligible at pH 5.5 and 7.4 and very slow in plasma. Investigation carried out using murine myeloid cell line showed that the polymeric prodrug maintains partial pharmacological activity of paclitaxel. The DL50 of the conjugate (over 40 ng/ml) as compared to free paclitaxel (about 1 ng/ml) was correlated to the slow drug release. Finally a pharmacokinetic study carried out by intravenous inoculation of the macromolecular prodrug to mice demonstrated that the polymer conjugation modify dramatically the in vivo fate of the drug. The conjugate disappeared from the bloodstream much more quickly as compared to both free drug and naked polymer. Massive accumulation of bioconjugate in the liver (80% of the dose) was found to persist throughout 1 week.

Abstract
The functionalization of dextran with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) leads to the formation of a derivative that generates hydrogels for irradiation at 365nm. The effects of various polymer concentrations and irradiation times on the yield and the properties of the obtained hydrogels are reported. The networks have been characterized by FT-IR spectra, dimensional analysis and swelling measurements carried out at different pH values. In vitro studies suggest that all samples undergo a partial chemical hydrolysis, whereas the incubation with dextranases causes a total degradation whose rate depends on the degree of crosslinking. In addition, aqueous solutions of functionalized dextran have been irradiated in the presence of PHG (PHEA-GMA), i.e. the copolymer obtained by the reaction of alpha,beta-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-DL-aspartamide (PHEA) with GMA. The crosslinking reaction leads to the formation of new networks containing both polymers whose properties have been investigated. To evaluate the processes which occur during UV irradiation, the sol fractions have been purified and characterized by FT-IR and 1H-NMR analyses. Finally, the suitability of hydrogels deriving from functionalized dextran, crosslinked alone or in the presence of PHG, for drug delivery systems has been investigated choosing theophylline as a model drug.

Abstract
Spherical polymeric microparticles have been prepared by a reverse phase suspension polymerization technique. The starting polymer was alpha,beta-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-DL-aspartamide (PHEA), partially derivatized with glycidylmethacrylate (GMA). PHEA-GMA copolymer (PHG) was crosslinked in the presence of N,N'-dimethylacrylamide (DMAA) or N,N'-ethylenebisacrylamide (EBA). 5-fluorouracil was incorporated into PHG-DMAA or PHG-EBA beads both during and after the crosslinking process. Swelling studies revealed a high affinity toward aqueous medium, influenced by the presence of 5-fluorouracil. The in vitro release study showed that the release rate depends on the chemical structure of the beads and the procedure adopted to incorporate 5-fluorouracil into the microparticles.

Abstract
Hydrophilic polycations form complexes when mixed with plasmids. Following functionalisation with glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride (GTA) alpha,beta-poly(asparthylhydrazide) (PAHy), a water-soluble synthetic macromolecule, becomes polycationic and potentially useful for systemic gene delivery. Initially the biocompatibility of PAHy and PAHy-GTA derivatives with different degrees of positive charge substitution were studied and it was shown that PAHy-GTA was neither haemolytic nor cytotoxicity up to 1 mg/ml. After intravenous injection (125)I-labelled PAHy-GTA derivative containing 46 mol% (PAHy-GTA(b)) of trimethylammonium groups did not accumulate in the liver (4.1+/-0.9% of the recovered dose after 1 h) but was subjected to renal excretion (45+/-21% of the recovered dose was in the kidneys after 1 h). PAHy-GTA formed complexes with DNA (gel retardation) and they protected against degradation by DNase II. Finally the ability of the PAHy-GTA(b) derivative to mediate the transfection of HepG2 cells using the marker gene beta-galactosidase was studied. The optimum plasmid/polymer mass ratio was examined in comparison to LipofectACE, Lipofectin and polyethylenimine.

Abstract
Polyethyleneglycol (PEG)-coated polyethylcyanoacrylate (PECA) nanoparticles loaded with amoxicillin were prepared and the influence of the PEG coating on the particle size, zeta potential, drug release rate and phagocytic uptake by murine macrophages was studied. Experimental results show that this colloidal drug delivery system could be useful for intravenous or oral administration. The profile of amoxicillin release from PECA nanoparticles system was studied under various conditions similar to those of some corporeal fluids. In all these experiments, amoxicillin release in the free form was studied by HPLC analysis. Experimental results showed that at pH 7.4 drug release rises when molecular weight of PEG added to polymerization medium increases; in human plasma on the contrary drug release is reduced as molecular weight of PEG rises. Phagocytosis was evaluated by incubating amoxicillin-loaded PECA nanoparticles with murine macrophages and determining the amount of phagocytized nanoparticles by dosing the amoxicillin present inside the macrophages. The results of this study showed significative differences between nanoparticles prepared in the presence or in the absence of PEG and demonstrated that the PEG coating reduces the macrophages uptake. These results suggest that nanoparticles prepared in the presence of PEG are stealth carriers, which could be an injectable colloidal system able to avoid MPS recognition after intravenous injection. Experimental data of drug release at pH 1.1 and in the presence of urease, taking into account the mucoadhesive properties of polyalkylcyanoacrylate nanoparticles and the activity of the amoxicillin versus Helicobacter pylori, suggest moreover that the colloidal drug delivery system obtained in our laboratory could be useful for the treatment of diseases caused by H. pylori by peroral administration.

Abstract
Four new poly(hydroxyethylaspartamide)-based copolymers bearing (a) poly(ethylene glycol) 2000, (b) poly(ethylene glycol) 5000, (c) poly(ethylene glycol) 2000 and hexadecylalkyl, (d) poly(ethylene glycol) 5000 and hexadecylalkyle, as pendant groups were synthesised. The copolymers were obtained by partial aminolysis of polysuccinimide with poly(ethylene glycol) and hexadecylalkyl amino derivatives followed by reaction with ethanolamine. Naked polyhydroxyaspartamide was obtained by polysuccinimide reaction with ethanolamine. The nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared, light scattering and elemental analysis allowed for the extensive physico-chemical characterisation of the carriers. The molecular mass of all the polymers was in the range of 27000-34000 Da, and the polydispersivity was in the range of 1.5-1.7. By intravenous injection to mice bearing a solid tumour, all the polymeric carriers displayed a bi-compartmental pharmacokinetic behaviour. Both the poly(ethylene glycol) and the hexadecylalkyle conjugation prolonged and enhanced the distribution phase of poly(hydroxyethylaspartamide). The poly(ethylene glycol) conjugation was found to promote the carrier elimination by kidney ultrafiltration and to prevent partially the accumulation in the spleen and in the liver. The poly(ethylene glycol)/hexadecylalkyle conjugates localised preferentially in the liver were over 30% of the dose/g of tissue was determined after 144 h from administration. In the tumour all the polymers displayed a relevant accumulation that significantly increased throughout the time to reach high concentrations after 24 h. In particular, the poly(ethylene glycol)/hexadecylalkyle conjugates achieved a concentration of 15-25% of the dose/g of tissue after 24 h from administration that was maintained up to 144 h.

Abstract
The clinical usefulness of antitumor chemotherapy has been strongly limited by the lack of specificity of most anticancer drugs, which act also against healthy cells. The aim of this work was to design, synthesize, and evaluate a macromolecular prodrug of Cytarabine, a known antitumor drug, which is a specific substrate for plasmin enzyme whose concentration is high in various kinds of tumor mass as a result of plasminogen activator secretion. alpha,beta-Poly(N-hydroxyethyl)-DL-aspartamide (PHEA), a known synthetic and biocompatible polyamino acid, was used as a drug carrier, and Cytarabine was linked to PHEA by D-Val-Leu-Lys spacer synthesized beginning from Cbz-D-Val-LeuOH dipeptide and N6-CbzLys methyl ester. The content of Cytarabine in the purified PHEA-D-Val-Leu-Lys-Cytarabine conjugate was equal to 3% w/w. In vitro experiments in the presence of plasmin evidenced the ability of this enzyme to strongly increase drug release from the macromolecular prodrug, as well as plasma incubation shows high stability of drug-polymer linkage. The direct linkage of Cytarabine to PHEA was also performed and, like PHEA-D-Val-Leu-Lys-Cytarabine conjugate, the obtained PHEA-Cytarabine conjugate showed high stability in plasma, but no release of Cytarabine was revealed in the presence of plasmin.

Abstract
Acyclovir-loaded polyethyl-2-cyanoacrylate (PECA) nanospheres were prepared by an emulsion polymerization process in the micellar phase and characterized. The influence of the presence of nonionic surfactant as well as other substances [i.e., 2-hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin (HP-beta-CyD) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)], on formulation parameters and loading capacity was investigated. In particular, the presence of PEG resulted in an increase of mean size and size distribution. To obtain PEG-coated PECA nanospheres with a mean size of < 200 nm, Pluronic F68 at concentrations > 1.5% (w/v) should be used during preparation. The presence of PEG also resulted in a change in zeta potential, from -25.9 mV for uncoated nanospheres to -12.2 mV for PEG-coated PECA nanospheres. The presence of HP-beta-CyD elicited an increase of nanosphere size and size distribution, but zeta potential was not influenced. In vitro drug release from nanospheres was determined in both phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) and plasma. The presence of HP-beta-CyD and PEG did not influence the acyclovir release rate in plasma. In the case of release in phosphate buffer, PEG-coated nanospheres showed a slower release. Ocular tolerability of PEG-coated PECA nanospheres was evaluated by the in vivo Draize test. This colloidal carrier was well tolerated, eliciting no particular inflammation at the level of the various ocular structures. In vivo ocular bioavailability was evaluated by instilling 50 microL of the acyclovir-loaded nanospheres only once in the conjunctival sac of rabbit eyes. At various time intervals, aqueous humour acyclovir content was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography. Acyclovir-loaded PEG-coated PECA nanospheres were compared with an aqueous solution of the drug and a physical mixture of acyclovir nanospheres. The acyclovir-loaded PEG-coated PECA nanospheres showed a significant (p < 0.001) increase of drug levels (25-fold) in aqueous humor compared with the free drug or the physical mixture. This finding is probably due to an improved ocular mucoadhesion of PEG-coated PECA nanospheres.

Abstract
A comparative study on the drug release capacity of four water swellable polymeric systems was carried out by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The polymeric systems chosen were alpha,beta-polyaspartahydrazide (PAHy) crosslinked by glutaraldehyde (GLU) (PAHy-GLU) or by ethyleneglycoldiglycidylether (EGDGE), (PAHy-EGDGE), polyvinylalcohol (PVA) crosslinked by glutaraldehyde (PVA-GLU) and alpha,beta-poly(N-hydroxyethyl)-DL-aspartamide (PHEA) by gamma irradiation (PHEA-gamma matrices). The degree of crosslinking for PAHy-GLU, PAHy-EGDGE and PVA-GLU samples was about 0.4 and 0.8. These hydrogels were characterized as free of drugs and were loaded with diflunisal (DFN) (approximately 2.5% w/w). Diflunisal, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, has been chosen as a model drug to be incorporated into polymeric matrices to follow the release processes of a drug from these hydrogels to a model membrane made by unilamellar vesicles of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC). Differential scanning calorimetry appears to be a suitable technique to follow the transfer kinetics of the drug from the controlled release system to the biomembrane model. The drug releases from all the considered polymeric hydrogels, were compared with the release observed from the drug solid form by examining the effects on the thermotropic behaviour of DPPC unilamellar vesicles. The release kinetics of the drug from hydrogels were followed at 25, 37 and 50 degrees C to evidence the influence of temperature on the drug release and on the successive transfer to biological membrane model. Particularly, it appears evident that the total amount of drug transferred and the release rate are affected by the polymer crosslinking degree (it increases with crosslinking decrease) as well as by the nature of crosslinking agent. In fact, the drug release profiles from PAHy-GLU samples are more differentiated than those from PAHy-EGDGE. The effect of parameters correlating with the properties of starting polymer, such as water-affinity, crystallinity, glass-to-rubber transition temperature and affinity towards drug molecules, has been also evaluated.
