Abstract
In this paper is presented a theoretical study of chemical reactivity on the formation of four proteinogenic amino acids: cysteine, aspartic acid, asparagine and threonine. According to a theoretical model based on three syntons: methylene, nitrene and carbon monoxide at low temperatures, aziridinone would be formed first. This one, with methylene and carbon monoxide forms further the precursors intermediates of these four proteinogenic amino acids. Finally, the precursors in reaction with water, a key component of the primary atmosphere, lead to amino acids specified above. The study is mainly based on quantum mechanical calculations, B88-LYP DFT. Methylaziridonil, aziridonilacetyl and ethylaziridonil radicals should be formed at low temperature, which finally in reaction with water will form cysteine, aspartic acid, asparagine and threonine.

Abstract
According to synthonic theory of the formation of proteinogenic amino acids and of corresponding polypeptides, starting from three synthons (methylene, nitrene and carbon monoxide), four proteinogenic amino acids have been constructed: valine, leucine, isoleucine and methionine. This paper represents a theoretical, thermodynamic and reactivity study on the formation of the four previously mentioned amino acids at low temperatures. All the intermediates involved in the formation of these amino acids as well as the final products obtained by contact with water, an essential component of the Earth`s primary atmosphere, are specified. Quantitative data, formation enthalpies, reaction enthalpies and free energies were obtained in principle by DTF (B88-LYP) calculations.

Abstract
Three synthons: methylene, nitrene and carbon monoxide form aziridinone in the presence of molecular nitrogen at low temperatures. This one, in contact with the same three synthons could form the precursors of the first proteinogenic amino acids. This paper is a theoretical, thermodynamically and reactivity study concerning the formation of the three previously named amino acids at low temperature conditions. The key intermediates are identified in the formation of the three amino acids: aziridinone, aziridinonil and methyl-aziridinonil radicals. The quantitative results, enthalpies of formation, reaction enthalpies and free energies were taken from quantum mechanical calculations acquired by density functional method (DFT): B88-LYP.

Abstract
For the development of renewable bioproducts able to solubilize organic persistent pollutant such as benzo[a]pyrene (BaP), modified potato starch was synthesized by alkylation. The addition of alkyl chains was performed with three different alkylation agents: epoxyalkane, alkenyl succinic anhydride and 1,4-butane sultone. Twelve alkylated starches were obtained with different molar substitutions (MS) and various alkyl chain lengths (to three carbons up to sixteen). The chemical structural characteristics were investigated by methods of (1)H NMR and FTIR. In comparison with the native starch, the ether modified starches showed in general an enhancement of their aqueous solubility whereas the ester modified starches stimulated the BaP aqueous solubilization. Indeed, the compounds P6 and P12, which increased 40-fold the BaP aqueous concentration, present high surfactant properties.

Fenton degradation assisted by cyclodextrins of a high molecular weight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon benzo[a]pyrene. JOURNAL OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS 2009; 168:1296-1301. Abstract
This paper investigates the effect of native beta-cyclodextrin (beta-CD) and its CD derivatives, such as hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin (HPBCD) and randomly methylated-beta-cyclodextrin (RAMEB), on the solubilization of a high molecular weight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) and on its degradation by Fenton's reaction. The results show that BaP apparent solubility was significantly increased in the presence of cyclodextrin (CD) in the following order: beta-CD<RAMEB<HPCD. BaP Fenton degradation was strongly dependent on the capacity of cyclodextrin to solubilize BaP. In the presence of a radical scavenger (mannitol), BaP Fenton degradation was inhibited with RAMEB but not in the presence of HPCD. Molecular modelisation was used to visualize the steric complementarity of these host-guest systems. No significant difference of encapsulation between the two modified CDs was observed. Nevertheless, the results suggest a probable existence of a ternary complex HPCD-BaP-iron permitting the generation of hydroxyl radicals in close proximity to BaP. On the basis of these results, it appears that HPCD may be useful for developing targeted BaP degradation system.

Abstract
The interest of simultaneously combining chemical (Fenton's reaction) and biological treatments for the degradation of a high molecular weight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) has been studied in laboratory tests. An optimal concentration of 1.5x10(-3) M H(2)O(2) as Fenton's reagent was firstly determined as being compatible with the growth of Fusarium solani, the Deuteromycete fungus used in the biodegradation process. For the enhancement of BaP solubilisation, cyclodextrins were also used in the performed tests. The best degradation performance was achieved through the use of 5x10(-3) M hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin (HPBCD) in comparison with randomly methylated-beta-cyclodextrin (RAMEB). When Fenton's treatment was combined with biodegradation, a beneficial effect on BaP degradation (25%) was obtained in comparison with biodegradation alone (8%) or with chemical oxidation alone (16%) in the presence of HPBCD for 12 days of incubation.

Abstract
The paper presents the synthesis of cyclo (bis-paraquat p-phenylene p-phenylene-carbonyl) tetrakis (hexafluorophosphate), named CETOBOX, and the closely related structural determinations. This compound exists in three tautomeric forms. These forms were evidentiated by NMR-data (1H-NMR, TOCSY, COSY, NOESY), UV-Vis spectra coupled with pH measurements and by synthesis. As the CETOBOX gives in situ only the corresponding monoylide, the synthesis of a new fluorescent indolizine cyclophane has been performed by a 3+2 cycloaddition. All structures of the new compounds presented herein have been established by NMR spectroscopy. Also, theoretical methods (MM3, AM1, AM1-COSMO and B88LYPDFT) have been used to determine the most stable conformer structures.

Abstract
Nucleoside hydrolase (NH) is a key enzyme in the purine salvage pathway. The purine specificity of the IAG-NH from Trypanosoma vivax is at least in part due to cation-pi-stacking interactions. Guanidinium ions can be involved in cation-pi-stacking interactions, therefore a series of guanidino-alkyl-ribitol derivatives were synthesized in order to examine the binding affinity of these compounds towards the target enzyme. The compounds show moderate to good inhibiting activity towards the IAG-NH from T. vivax.

Abstract
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in the air provoke health and environmental concerns. This paper focuses on the absorption method to treat industrial polluted air loaded with VOCs. The key variable of this treatment being the choice of a suitable liquid absorbent, the aim of this research work is to investigate the effectiveness and the regeneration of a new potential family of absorbent: cyclodextrins (CDs). All CDs derivatives tested are able to decrease the Henry's law constant of toluene: a reduction of volatility up to 95% may be obtained, depending on CD nature and concentration. Moreover, absorption experiments show that beta-CD, which presents the highest absorption ability, is 250 time more efficient than water. The absorption efficiency is not totally correlated with static experiments, suggesting that, in addition to Henry's law constants and inclusion compounds stability, toluene diffusion into such solutions has to be taken into account. It is also to be noted that salt and pH variations seem to have little influence on the absorption capacity of CDs, which may be of great interest for industrial applications. Finally, since production of solid compounds was not observed during these experiments and since temperature decreases the capture ability in a drastic way, regeneration of the washing solution can be achieved by heating the solution in combination with air stripping.

Abstract
The capacity of alpha-cyclodextrin (alpha-CD) and four beta-cyclodextrins (beta-CDs) in reducing the volatility of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and particularly carbon tetrachloride (CT), chloroform (TCM) and dichloromethane (DCM) is investigated by using static headspace gas chromatography (HSGC). The experiments allowed the determination of Henry's law constant (H(c)) in absence and in presence of cyclodextrins (CDs). The use of CDs may lead to a reduction of 95% of the Henry's law constant for some VOCs. The association constants of the inclusion complexes formed between CDs and the three guests are determined using a new method involving an algorithmic treatment bringing the shortening of experimental time required for the determination of the stability constant. The complementarities of the host and the guest are investigated by molecular modelling. The complexation energies obtained are in good agreement with the experimental formation constants. Furthermore, this study shows the effectiveness of CDs in trapping pollutants and reducing their volatility in the viewpoint of pollution prevention.

Abstract
A range of novel 1,2,3-triazolylalkylribitol derivatives were synthesized and evaluated as nucleoside hydrolase inhibitors. The most active compound (11a) has low micromolar potency and is structurally diverse from previously reported nucleoside hydrolase inhibitors, which, along with the simplicity of the chemistry involved in its synthesis, makes it a good lead for the further development of novel nucleoside hydrolase inhibitors.

Abstract
In order to investigate the substituent effects on their conformations and spectroscopic properties, a series of pyridin-4-ylindolizine modified beta-cyclodextrin derivatives were studied by 2D NMR (ROESY spectra) in D2O, circular dichroïsm, and fluorescence spectroscopy. It was found that the linked indolizin-beta-cyclodextrin compounds exhibited two types of conformations, as a function of the substituent, in which fluorescent moieties formed either an intramolecular complex or were not included in the hydrophobic cavity of the macrocycle. Under addition of organic guest species in a phosphate buffer at neutral pH, the variation of emission fluorescence intensity showed that these compounds are of significance for detection of volatile organic molecules and adamantane derivatives and might be used as molecular chemosensor.

Abstract
High-resolution 1- and 2D NMR spectra of tetrandrine and molecular modelling were employed to characterise its structure in solution. Complete and unambiguous assignment of all proton and carbon resonance signals is reported. Scalar couplings were determined from dihedral angles with the Karplus equation. Inter-proton distances were evaluated from NOE correlation peaks. Comparison of simulated and X-ray conformations of tetrandrine reveals only small differences.

Abstract
The structure of 1-disubstituted 4-(4'-pyridyl)pyridinium methylides or 4,4'-bipyridinium monoylides (2-5) with a wide range of carbanion substituents, were determined using 13C NMR signals in dimethylsufoxide (DMSO-d(6)) solution. For the first time, we developed a systematic determination of 13C NMR chemical shifts of the ylidic carbon using a long-range correlated (1H-(13)C) HMBC experiments. The chemical shift values are discussed in terms of magnetic and/or electronic effects of the ylidic carbon substituents. From the extracted NMR parameters and the results of accompanying quantum chemical DFT calculations for a three-dimensional (3D)-structure representation, we found a long distance electronic effect where the aromatic heterocycle C2z.sbnd;C6 and C4 centers are perturbed according to the electron acceptor strengths of ylidic carbon substituents in all monoylides (2-5c) capable to stabilize in a planar conformation. No significant perturbation on C2z.sbnd;C6 and C4 centers are found in all other monoylides (2-5a, b) that adopted a non-planar conformation. Good similar linear dependences of the chemical shift variation Delta (calculated by the differences of analogous C2z.sbnd;C6 and C4 chemical shifts in non-planar and planar monoylides) with the ylidic carbon chemical shifts modulated by the strength of electron acceptor substituents pointed out the resonance interaction or the delocalization phenomena of the ylidic carbon charge on the heterocycle.

Abstract
The interactions existing between beta-cyclodextrin, hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin and six volatile organic compounds (VOC) were studied and used for capture of such pollutants. The reduction of volatility for these VOC appeared to be equivalent for the two kinds of cyclodextrins at equal concentrations, while a higher solubility conferred higher efficiency to hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin. The use of such cyclodextrins in traps allowed a two-fold increase in VOC capture compared with genuine water. Application of this process to an industrial site showed its efficacity qualitatively while several optimization procedure are needed to achieve quantitative efficacy.
